I believe that a lot of their issues have been resolved. The old blue labeled books I would question, but they have definitely gotten their act together, and I have no problem sending them books.
Thanks for the follow up on the restoration for the X-men comic. Regarding PGX although notorious for not detecting Restoration they provide a niche for collectors who would like to preserve books at lower cost. Some collectors just want to have their books slabbed without thought of resale or making a profit.
My guess with the rust marks by the staples is that I think there was a spine roll pressed out. I’ve seen a couple other books similar to that, and the tears near the staples are consistent with a spine roll.
There's a HUGE difference in the value of a book that has been restored and a book that has not been restored. There is absolutely no excuse for these kind of mistakes. This is yet another example of how bad their services are and why most collectors just avoid PGX all together...
I have a Tombo of Terror 2 PGX 8.5 that I CPR'd currently in grading at CGC. Interesting thing is, they have it listed as a file copy now in the description. Interested in seeing what the final grade will be.
I've heard good, bad, and indifferent about CGC, CBCS, and PGX, so it seems to be a buyer beware situation with all of them. I've also found that buying raw books is the same way since lots of stores say anything from 9.0 and up is near mint. I had a company sell me a 9.8 that I got graded and it came back 8.5. I think the moral is just find a couple of honest people like you Bry, and stick with them.
As a person who is considering submissions to CGC, my question is, If I have a comic graded and slabbed by another company, do I have to crack it myself prior to submission to CGC or will they crack and grade once it gets there?
Bry few years ago I traded my Avengers #4 with the back cover ripped a bit but front cover great shape for another cpyy plus I paid $600.00 for this copy sent to c g c and got a 5.0.Should I have kept my other copy.
Bry, you called it from a mile away: well done! PGX would need to do something like a buy back/regrade and cross-over guarantee for all books graded during that era along with a truly transparent explanation of what actually happened. I can’t imagine they would ever do something like that but that is the only way to win back consumer confidence after such a debacle. I stopped buying PGX books some time ago. I suppose a modern 9.8 PGX slab might be exactly that but older books from silver and bronze are far too risky. No one should be sending their books to PGX when excellent services like CGC and CBCS are available.
I was watching this video while looking for a high grade slabbed X-Factor 24. Found one for a good price but it's PGX and looks like the top was trimmed, but I have seen this book mis-cut before.
I had a book go missing from cbcs. called they were like we sold it. you didn't claim it.... they were supposed to grade it and send it to me. none of my info changed no one got ahold of me, and when I called they told me too bad after month on the phone. I have never had book graded agen that was my first.
Bry. On the topic of missing books, have you ever had CGC lose any books before they "received" them? Im about 8 phone calls and 8 months deep into this problem with them. Six out of twenty books are missing. Another informative video. Thanks
Great detective work! I own MANY Graded PGX slabs. However, the majority of them are 10.0s. They're the only grading company that I can realistically own such comics and not go broke/lose my shirt
They aren't 10s. Lol. Send them to CGC, and they will be 8.5 at best. I don't get my books graded, and I refuse to buy graded books. I hate all grading companies for one reason or another, but PGX is total garbage.
Was looking forward to the outcome of this after watching the first video. Having not yet ventured into slabbed books yet, this kind of information is always appreciated. Disappointing that the original grading company didn't due their due diligence and, in the very least, present all of the details of the book they graded. I was on the fence to pick up a PGX Swamp Thing #4 but will probably pass now. Great content - thanks!
I think for a PC book I would keep it slabbed restored and just show the book. I don't think it would be worth removing the restoration. Great informative video and honestly it doesn't look good for PGX.
Further proof that the best thing about PGX is the ease that you can crack their cases 😅 They never had a reputation worth saving in the first place to be perfectly honest. Great stuff Bry!
If I could afford it, I'd have no problem at all owning this book. Just knowing it could be removed relatively easily, I would probably keep that one in the slab as-is
Any time I can see an X-Men #1 ...I'm in! You have a nice display wall too. I have an pgx FF4 #49, the case came open on it's own...weird. It appears to be accurately graded and is intact. But yeah, pgx has a long way to go. Merry Christmas🎄
Love the content and info but as a word of warning I doubt that CCS would remove the resto from the book. I have now had my second book undergo screening and ultimately rejected because some condescending screening thought that the resto removal would damage the book too much. CGC and CCS seem to have a paradigm belief that the higher the grade the better regardless of the color of the label (ie purple or green. So in my experience I doubt that CCS would perform the service and you would likely be wasting screening fees as it is my opinion that the people actually appreciate restored books,
Thanks for the GREAT content Bry. Shows what an honorable seller you are. I would absolutely send that in to have the restoration removed and re-graded. Regardless, I would take a restored X-Men #1 any day!
I love watching your videos they help me learn more about thte hobbie I love. I had a friend press and clean an ASM 7 for me and add a little tape because a chunk fell off. It came back a 1.5 but I really love it. PGX would have to get bought out by another collecting grading company or have a partnership with an established company that has a stellar reputation.
I bought a PGX graded 9.2 Infinity Gauntlet with George Perez autograph with COA. I know the autograph is legit, but I am thinking of sending it to CBCS for regrading. CGC is out because I can't get a Gold label with the autograph. They really need to change their Signature grading standards.
I have beef that CGC charges a percentage fee based on the value of the book - doesn't seem right. IMO it should be a flat fee, unless they could make the justification that it requires incremental time / cost to grade higher value books. would love your thoughts tho Bry if im missing something
It's strange, because the major grading companies all have varied reputations on different products. Where CGC is considered number 1 in comics, they are the worst for cards. Where PGX is trash for comics, PSA is number 1 for cards (Although they have a reputation for almost a pay to play grading system), where CBCS is partnered with Beckett, Beckett being a reputable company for card grading (But not number 1???) complete with signature verification without certifications which is something CGC does not offer (But should).
I've heard way too much stuff like this from PGX, I couldn't ever trust their stuff. I do wonder if EGS is any good, they look intriguing now, would you test them out ? I would love to see it.
I was looking forward to the follow-up video on this comic. I'm glad that the seller was willing to go through the process with you. I think the market has made its decision regarding PGX as an unreliable and inconsistent grading company. Most PGX comics I've seen come up in the auctions have sold for much less than their similarly-graded counterparts from CGC and CBCS. If the consumer can't trust the authenticity of a grade, then it would be nearly impossible to come back from that.
I'm pretty sure, that the whole reason this resto job was sent to PGX was BECAUSE they would most likely overlook that restoration. What do you think the CGC score would have been had they just sent it in without trying to repair it? I mean it got the same grade that PGX gave it.
You should request both grading notes for further clarification of the differences.. still you where right. I would send the grading comparison to pgx so they improve their service, bad business in the end
I believe that a lot of their issues have been resolved. The old blue labeled books I would question, but they have definitely gotten their act together, and I have no problem sending them books.
Agreed
Thanks for the follow up on the restoration for the X-men comic. Regarding PGX although notorious for not detecting Restoration they provide a niche for collectors who would like to preserve books at lower cost. Yeah, man, I gave up on all of those bricks. PGX, CGC. I don't mess with any of them. If it's not raw, I don't want it.
My guess with the rust marks by the staples is that I think there was a spine roll pressed out. I’ve seen a couple other books similar to that, and the tears near the staples are consistent with a spine roll.
Wow, good eye, Bry!
This is an older PGX label and PGX has a former CGC person working for them now. I think and hope they’ve improved in this area.
There's a HUGE difference in the value of a book that has been restored and a book that has not been restored. There is absolutely no excuse for these kind of mistakes. This is yet another example of how bad their services are and why most collectors just avoid PGX all together...
Thanks again for the great video. Informative as I learned more about the restoration scores. Thanks
A lot of good, honest content from this video! Thank you for that honesty!
I have a Tombo of Terror 2 PGX 8.5 that I CPR'd currently in grading at CGC. Interesting thing is, they have it listed as a file copy now in the description. Interested in seeing what the final grade will be.
Thanks for the follow up. Saw the first video and wondered what the X-men would be graded. Great eye!!
I’ve got a Tales of Suspense 39 7.0 CGC restored with the same slight C-1 restoration. Do you recommend anyone to help remove the restoration?
Just getting back into collecting. It's pretty overwhelming. Your videos help
Yeah having dealers you can trust goes a long way…thanks for the kind words
I have a Batman 251 in a 4.5 PGX case. It has a ton of tape on the perimeter of the cover. I’m a little bit afraid of what I will find.
Great call on the restoration...it's a shame that there aren't many alternatives when it comes to professional grading.
As a person who is considering submissions to CGC, my question is, If I have a comic graded and slabbed by another company, do I have to crack it myself prior to submission to CGC or will they crack and grade once it gets there?
would it have been better to send this in as a conservation submission vs getting the purple label of death?
Thank you for information i will for sure keep this in mind during future purchases
PGX feels like some dude working out of his mom's basement
Bry, good to see this item get closure. Thanks for running this from start to finish!!
Very awesome info. Thanks for giving this out to the community
What is the sale price on this the way it sits
Hats off to you Bry for being so informative.
Wow - so what will you be doing with the book?
I sold it as consignment through my shop for the seller 👍
Very fun to follow along and learn from ya!
12:37 Really good video. I watched the first one, too. I haven’t been too happy with the few PGX books I’ve ended up with in my shop either.
Bry few years ago I traded my Avengers #4 with the back cover ripped a bit but front cover great shape for another cpyy plus I paid $600.00 for this copy sent to c g c and got a 5.0.Should I have kept my other copy.

I totally agree with you, I think they’ll just ride it out
You definitely validate why I never ever use PGX. Plus I don’t care for the cases…they’re very easy to crack open
That could had been a raw with restoration which is worst if you ask me cuz it can go unnoticed sometimes online.
Good info to know about PGX. Was going to slab some books there. It's now a pass on them.
great video nice find seeing the restoration. it will save you a lot in the price of the book.
I was watching this video while looking for a high grade slabbed X-Factor 24. Found one for a good price but it's PGX and looks like the top was trimmed, but I have seen this book mis-cut before.
Yeah trimming can be hard to tell sometimes
Thank you for the informative video !!
Great video as always thank you sir. Looks like somebody use some kind of glue on it. Not cool.
Found the video cause I was trying to see the difference between pgx grading to cgc. Good information. I'm definitely going to be following
Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work bro..
Appreciate you sharing this I had my doubts! Great channel btw!
Where do I go for one of your mystery boxes? Oh and I would love to get one of those slabs!
Sign up for the newsletter at my website to get first access!
Solid tips thank you.
Thanks for sharing the info. It would be nice to see PGX recover, but I just don't know. Only time will tell.
I had a book go missing from cbcs. called they were like we sold it. you didn't claim it.... they were supposed to grade it and send it to me. none of my info changed no one got ahold of me, and when I called they told me too bad after month on the phone. 🤯
It's nice to have sellers like you in the comic community!
Bry. On the topic of missing books, have you ever had CGC lose any books before they "received" them? Im about 8 phone calls and 8 months deep into this problem with them. Six out of twenty books are missing. Another informative video. Thanks
Great video I'd resubmit for restoration removal

@@Robert-nu4vc 🤔…..so why are u commenting on anything related to “Graded” comics? Make it make sense 😵💫
A lot of good information. Thanks for the video.
Wow - very interesting analysis and good follow up to the previous video talking about this book. Thanks Bry!
Thanks for the video Bry. Nice analysis of how different services grade their books. Keep grinding bro!✌🏼
Was looking forward to the outcome of this after watching the first video. Having not yet ventured into slabbed books yet, this kind of information is always appreciated. Love the video. Love the honesty. Consistent inconsistency is not good in an entity that’s supposed to authenticate a collectible.
Bro dope info bro can’t wait for more
Has cgc’s service got any faster I got a spawn 174 there and I’m regretting not fast tracking it.
Thanks for sharing and educating us!
I've always considered PGX to be the lowest rung on the comic grading ladder, and this video hasn't changed that.
I do have concerns with PGX. Thanks for validating them!
Thanks for the update to this book. I'll never use PGX, ridiculous that they didn't do their due diligence.
Thank you for this video, your content is amazing.
Thank you for being honest. Love your channel. To regain their reputation, they would have to do a major transparency campaign.
I learned so much just in this video, thank you please keep it up
I agree that we should just stay away from PGX vintage slabs.
Merry Christmas🎄
great video. I don't plan on using PGX any time in the future. Why would I? thanks for the info
I bought an Angela #1 (Image) PGX 9.8 for $50. CPRed it and it came back a CGC 9.8. That’s my only experience with them
Great video I'm glad I got to see that one in person 👍
I have never used PGX and do not plan to in the future.
Love the content and info but as a word of warning I doubt that CCS would remove the resto from the book. Thanks for the GREAT content Bry. Shows what an honorable seller you are. I would absolutely send that in to have the restoration removed and re-graded. Regardless, I would take a restored X-Men #1 any day!
This has been going on with PGX for a long time. personally, I would never send anything there.
What's scary is that someone with less skill than you (like me), would never have figured this out.
Longtime comic fan just getting back into it. Love all the info you provide keep it coming.
Does PGX ever call a book restored? This may be asked already, but too many comments to go through to find.
Yes
Oh man. Glad you know now.
Love this type of video. Present all the facts and let the community decide for themselves while adding you expert opinion. Keep up the good work

CGC is taking more inherent risk handling high dollar books if they are damaged or lost hence increase in fees
Thank you Bry for all you do !
It's strange, because the major grading companies all have varied reputations on different products. Where CGC is considered number 1 in comics, they are the worst for cards. Unfortunately they aren’t a viable option for a business…
Awesome video, great information
Always enjoy your videos bud!
Interesting video. Thanks Bry.
I appreciate your videos. I have learned a lot about this hobby.
So are you gonna sell CGC books now?? I got a feeling this current CGC scam is gonna blow away any of the PGX issues now..
What would pgx have to gain by falsely grading books? Very poor business practices.
I was looking forward to the follow-up video on this comic. I'm glad that the seller was willing to go through the process with you. Ty as always for the content bry.
I'm glad to see a update o. that comic you were right
Ya pgx sucks i have superman annual 1 in a 6.0 pgx im afraid to see what it comes back as
great video Bry
Another great video keep them coming please
