    What do you think? How do these companies stack up in your opinion?

    The fact that you got notes on a CGC 9.2 is the most amazing part of this video! 🤯

  • @my11badkids78
    @my11badkids78 Год назад

    The true test would be to take 1 comic and place it into your own personal hard cover and send it into CGC. When it returns cut it out and send it to CBCS and repeat with PGX.
    Then compare all the reports and grades with each other.
    Sending it in to each company inside of a hard case would ensure that the integrity of the book is maintained during your test. Also wear gloves etc when removing the comic from each slab and prepping to send to next company.
    This way you get an actual direct comparison of each grading company. Heck you could pick several comics (slightly different grades) and do this procedure with each to gain even more insight.
    It would make 1 hell of a video.

      Absolutely, I thought about that originally. However it's cost prohibitive as a hobbyist. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @ComicsRediscovered You'll have to do it after your monetized on RUclips. Then a couple hundred on a video will be just the cost of doing business lol.

    Really appreciate your succinct lucidity. Subscribed. PS using a high grade circular polarizer can help with the glare problem when shooting, but getting it rotated correctly and keeping the slab at the correct angle can be a real pain. But, if you want to capture good still images, a proper CPL can be priceless.

      Thanks! I think the depth of the scale cbcs provides reduces the subjectivity more than with the other two

    Really great video, nice comparison. You can request graders notes on the back of the PGX slabs when you send them in to be graded. I believe it’s a $5 fee. I always add this service when I mail my books in to be graded because I like knowing why it got the grade it got. 🙂👍🏻✌🏻

    just wish there was some way to have identical books sent to cgc and cbcs like 10 of each to see what happens

    • @ComicsRediscovered
      @ComicsRediscovered  2 года назад +1

      Ya impossible. Even cracking and sending the same book over and over you're likely to suffer handling damage and thus not the same grade. That's why I felt the consistency was the greatest factor not the actual grade book to book. Just how consistent these companies were in adhering to their stated standard

    Great video!! I've used three of the four major companies for my grading and I had a good experience with them all. The only one I haven't used is CGC because of the turnaround times. For me I got my comics slabbed to try it out but also I sent in a bunch to CBCS for my personal collection. I've used EGS and they did a really good job and with their new slab coming out soon I'll look forward to what people say about them. I honestly grade just for preservation for my PC Comics. Otherwise raw is fine with me. If I want to protect them I can buy Comic Skins or Top Loaders to protect those books or I could get them raw graded and sell them that way and save a chunk of money.

      I did have good communication with PGX which I did via email. They actually responded to me quickly and after hours. I didn't ask for graded notes but communication was pretty easy. I had the same experience with EGS.

    Just go Raw. Save yourself a ton of money in shipping and supplies and save that to buy more books. The world was just fine before CGC and CBCS and all the rest. Sure we had to haggle on the prices and on what we thought the actual condition of the book was but what is the difference when CGC or CBCS grades your book less than what you thought it was. What makes these companies the be all end all of book condition. At the end of the day a comic book is worth whatever you want to pay for it, just like anything else in this greedy world, so why not enjoy the book the art and even the smell. Too much money spent on the whole process of entombing a comic book just so you can get more money for it. I just wish people could see that they are being manipulated by the big resellers and auction houses.

    I agree with your evaluation. CBCS has had some customer service issues when trying to contact them & CGC has a better record on that. I feel when grading Golden Age books, CBCS is harder & CGC takes account the age & gives a little. I do CBCS for consistancy for all, even though I get more golden age books graded & lose money (potentially), they are in my PC anyway & I want an accuarate grade, not a gift.

    • @ComicsRediscovered

      Thanks for the thoughtful comment, I agree. The grade should be a reflection not a gift or it undermines the whole process

    I have a 12 long box collection of Raw comics from the 80's and early 90's in Chicago but I live in ON. Canada. I was wondering if I should just sell them in the States or risk getting them across the border and risk getting hit with customs? I have heard horror stories about the border and comics. Not sure how they determine Duty or Tax on stuff that was bought back in the 80/90's?

    • @ComicsRediscovered
      @ComicsRediscovered  2 года назад

      As far as I know, if you live in Canada and that stuff is old just tell them it's your child hood collection you're bringing to where you live now. Shouldn't be any customs on it, well beyond any reasonable time limit for taxation

    What do you think of comic collectors and comic stores value graded comics at different values pgx , cbcs, egs sells less to cgc people probably disagree with me have comics graded your paying for company label they do same except cgc with signature books they all should sell for same value no matter what company graded them it’s forcing people go to cgc who don’t like cgc who have had problems with cgc will not go them again

    • @ComicsRediscovered
      @ComicsRediscovered  Год назад

      I think between CGC and CBCS there shouldn't be a value difference. I think CBCS is actually more consistent in grading and their slab is better quality, though I know some people like the appearance of CGC better

      @@ComicsRediscovered I started collecting in 1974, it was left up to the buyer and seller to determine a price. With graded books the prices are so high it has kept the average collector out of the market.

      Grading companies allowed online sales to become safer and expand. There were so many restoration scams before grading companies existed.

    I think it would be cool to see the books under light before they get sent off. It’s hard to see everything once it’s in the case. Also did you press any of these books? Bends can be hidden sometimes.

    You can't do an analysis of just one book vs another book to decide which company grades better.

    • @ComicsRediscovered
      @ComicsRediscovered  2 года назад +1

      I didnt. This is based off multiple submissions of multiple books over time, boiled down to this one video and set of submissions. Taking any of the companies at value of any submission of books is a fair enough way of doing it. As I said in the video and multiple others, the level of consistency among the companies is the problem.

      agreed. its even more obvious to me that the grade is soft and overly generous when put up against other books in the same order from CGC and the books from CBCS and PGX. Thanks for commenting!
