So if you're in the market for a new DAW Control Surface, be sure to check out this video!
Icon Pro Audio, best known for their QCon Pro X and QCon Pro G2 Daw Controllers introduce the Icon V1-M DAW Control Surface and the V1-X Extender. Both with motorized faders for the best mixing experience. Is this the best DAW Controller for Logic Pro X, Cubase, Protools, Reaper and others? This may be the best daw controller with motorized faders that I have ever used.

Those are nice. I have been watching them for a while.
Look forward to your next videos on these controllers.
Coming soon!
@@LonelyRocker Brilliant can’t wait! These have been on my radar as I prefer faders in the studio and they also looked great in your unboxing. 🥳
Looks really cool!
Super fun!!!
Dope. Now let's see it work🫣👀
Oh you will! Hope you're sub'd so you see the full review drop :)
Great video! I've been using the Icon Platform M+ for few years now though now it seems like I'm about to upgrade as well 👌
Thanks so much! Hope you get your hands on one soon!
the music while you were putting it together was cool. Had a GNR Rocket Queen vibe!
Thanks so much! First time I’m hearing those references 😎🤘🏽🎸
a meterbridge with stereo meters would be nice for radio production
Unfortunately that won't work with all DAWs...I talk about why in my follow videos on this....
Feverishly opening those boxes Dan looked like Christmas has come early😀The new Icons look fantastic !! looking forward to getting the full low down on these beauts .
You know how I feel about those things!! Felt a little bit like the old days on the channel. Super fun!!!! Will be digging in deep soon!!
Hold up.. congrats brother. It looks great and lots of room.
I been wanting this. Finally fader port with meters. I had presonus but i never know witch track is playing it had no meters on each track.
Check out my full review. It just came out!
Thanks for the video. I´m a bit hyped on this, allthough support of Icon worries me, especially cause I´m from Germany and I heard, that it´s troublesome even in the US. Hopefully the unit is build solidly. Looking forward to your review, can´t wait.☺
My pleasure! I’ve had a ton of Icon gear here and all of the controllers have been solid. Best you buy from a reputable retailer so you have a contact if you do have an issue. Video is coming soon!
I have the iCon QCon Pro X, no plans to upgrade it anytime soon but this is differently a nice update!
I love the Pro X. Sort of sad to see it go. It’s a sturdy machine and has stood the test of time…so far….
Nice studio
Thanks!
Christmas came early!
It sure did! :)
I have been testing the V1-M for them as well but they didn't send me an extender. Can I ask how well the connectivity is with the extenders? I'm thinking of also adding 2 extenders but want to make sure it reacts well. Thanks. I love your channel. I also like the Nano P1 as well for small set up options. I currently use the Pro X and XS and loved them but it may be time to make the upgrade to the new surfaces. I see yours has a matte upper panel. The preproduction model was reflective so I'm glad they changed it.
Thanks so much. I got the extenders to work great. Depending on the DAW there may be a need for tweaking offsets. Hard for me to say in every DAW but in Logic I'm good. Helps to know your way around audio/midi setups, firmware etc...
If & When it's supported by Driven By Moss it would be great...but the support issues I keep reading about dont look good.
I will be looking forward to your review. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on this last week. The Namm show demos it looked they where having trouble with the stream deck like buttons. So im waiting on what real world test look like. Customer service with Icon is hit and miss! Sometimes they get back fast and sometimes not at all. So going in to this i wanna see how it works for ya. The main thing for me is the Scribble strips so i can see what channel im on. my eyes are shit. So im just thinking about going with the iCON Pro Audio V1-X Extender for V1-M DAW Control Surface. That should work right I dont need the iCON Pro Audio V1-M I dont care about the transport..
I'll be dicing in deep on this soon. I'm giving it a good spin before I do a video so I can be as comprehensive as possible. Stay tuned for that...make sure you are sub'd so you get notified (if not already)
I owned a control board like this once. I still think a large touchscreen with fantastic response is the answer. No configuration is necessary, it is simply a replacement for monitor and mouse. Currently I am 100% hardware, no computer used at all.
Some like the feel of real faders. It brings a traditional mixing feel into an in the box studio. But we all have different needs. What works for each os is the right solution :)
That's why my studio is 100% hardware today. @@LonelyRocker
@@WildernessMusic_GentleSereneand I’m 100% in the box and removed all these controllers. Instead I use a Push controller and 2 iPads. One for transport (my ancient iPad from 2012 handles this) and my iPad Pro runs Avid Control. These controllers all promise total integration and no need to look at the computer screen but unless they are integrated into the Daw like Push is with Ableton you’ll still need the mouse and a lot of screen time. Fine for some of course but I would rather have something I can hold with one hand and move around the studio or house with. Also with a laptop we really have not come to grips with the portable mixing solution and the comfort of mixing on your sofa with your feet up, a pair of headphones and your family around you. All the best with it. Good video and your excitement was good to see. Have fun!
I mean whatever rocks your boat but I would have probably sort out my ADDA & monitoring before looking at control surfaces. Focusrite and hs5's and a huge 24 fader setup...
All that is already sorted. Control is a very different thing.
Hi do you plan on doing the more compact P1M or the P1 Nano? 😊
It’s possible. I’ll throw the idea to Icon.
When do you plan to make a review of the device? Cheers!
That should surface within the next couple of weeks!
Is the video music yours? Great icon videos. Definitely most informative on the brand.
Yes it is..and thank you!! I did a follow up to this video with a full review. Make sure to check that one out. Cheers!
I got the Qcon ProX with extender years ago that that thing was a freaking nightmare with basically zero support from the manufacturer. This looks good but I wonder if it actually works. Looking forward to seeing it actually work.
Sorry you had issues. My Icon gear has worked really well. I will be doing a deep dive on this so stay tuned!
Yeah... I was REALLY PSYCHED to move toward getting some of their tools about a year and a half ago... But they are IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH. I mean, we can't even reach anyone to inquire about how to purchase products.
If it's so hard to purchase a product, then I refuse to purchase... as I have only expectations of a "pure hell" level of experience if I need tech support.
@@sekritskworl-sekrit_studiosI will address these concerns with them when I speak to them.
@@LonelyRocker Thank you kindly, because their stuff looks kick-ass! But their comms seem the common barrier for many. :-)
@@sekritskworl-sekrit_studios They will respond on Facebook or now through email. They have greatly improved the service side.
Any chance will this work for video editing?
Sadly no. I’ve tried 🥹
I have the Qcon Pro G2 and i just purchase a new iMac with the latest macOS but the Qcon Pro G2 is not working. Do you have a link of how i can make it work?
It really should work. Delete all of your connections, make sure the newest firmware is installed and reconnect everything. Good luck!
@@LonelyRocker what you mean by delete all my connections?
@iFamineTV I don’t know what DAW you’re using but delete all of the Mackie connection setups and reconnect from scratch after you update the firmware.
@@LonelyRocker what I have is “Qcon Pro G2”
@iFamineTV your Mackie connections. Just. Reset everything you did to set it up and start from scratch.
Thanks for responding. I was a bit too critical. Apologies.
All good...I have tough sckin...thanks for the note :) Hope you sub'd!! :)
Crossing fingers that the configuring video works with their Platform M+ as well. I'm wanting to change the mixer button to the actual mixer in Logic like it should be. hahah
That would be an interesting test to see if the new imap works with the old controllers. I’m not sure it will properly because it’s customized for the specific controller. But if you’re a midi guru…maybe! 😂
@@LonelyRocker You have to be a midi scientist to get those things to change from default 🤣
More light !
Never!!! ;))))))
My favorite gear are always the ones I have affiliate links for.
That's great because I actually don't have affiliate links for these controllers...My affiliate doesn't sell these .
Can you place the master controller in the middle of the 2 extenders?
Yep
Absolutely..you can place them n any order you want. That's a function of the DAW itself where you can configure the order.
How is the functionality with plug ins for Univeral Audio Luna?
Unfortunately I don't have Luna so I can't test that. however, I have had preliminary talks with a rep at UA so who knows what might be coming :)
@@LonelyRocker Luna is free
Can i get the purchase link please
There is a link to Icon's site in the description. I'm working on purchase links ASAP...
I'll just stick to my SSL UF8 and add upgrades like the UF1 and UC1.
Great!
Willing to donate one of those older control surfaces to my home studio?
😂😎😂😂😂 I may actually be selling them….I have too many!
Do you like these over he S3 and Dock?
I've never used the S3 but I avoid Avid like the plague ;) (I say this after using their software for a loooooonng time)
You have space for another extender!
I do...but that space was reclaimed for something special that will be featured in an upcoming video...stay tuned!!!
@@LonelyRocker Looking forward to it! 👍🏽
I don't know, Dude. Congrstulstion. But I will stay by my R24 from ZOOM for ever🎉
If it works for you it’s the right one!
Looks really good Dan! Can I have your old one...? 😁
Haha...I will actually be selling my old controller. I have 3 different sets...Interested? ;-)
@@LonelyRocker I doubt I could afford a controller 'once used by the lonely rocker' - it will be worth far too much, like a guitar played by Eddie...😂
@davebops2478 it might actually be worth less than market because I used it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Have u used ssl?
Yes, I did a buyer's guide video and featured it in that video. Great unit too. I have some thoughts on it which I expressed in the video...
$1100, then another $ 900 per extender. They can keep them! Ridiculous!
May as well get a digital mixer at that price
I had motorized sliders (presonus) and at one point wondered “what’s the point?”, then figured “the point is that if you want to modify in a subtle way an already existing volume envelope your modification wouldn’t start from a completely different value of the slider…”, but then when I tried “subtle modifications” on the fly, those motorized pieces of crap just resisted and also had a “grainy” resolution to their movement, “subtle” was not possible…. Ever since I just find nonemotorized sliders infinitely more subtle.
I’ve always used the faders for more broad strokes and automation. Very fine details get the mouse.
Can I have your old daw controllers for Christmas?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One thing I noticed. The faders did not operate in unison, some lagged.
I hadn’t calibrated the faders yet.
@@LonelyRocker Oppose I dintent do a BASIC function. before I advertised.
I didn’t advertise. I didn’t get paid. I just unboxed. You saw what I saw when it came out of the box. That’s honesty.
UF8 comes calibrated already. was wondering why you didn't go SSL?@@LonelyRocker
@DennisCarrico-ms9he I had the SSL here. It’s a great controller but it’s pricey and they don’t have true extenders. But great gear for sure.
If you want to sell the G2 Extender let me know
I am planning to sell of my extra controllers soon. Just want to make sure I don’t need to make any more comparison videos.
Same Mackie control midi algorithm just different packaging....Mackie Control, X-Touch, etc....
This is a limitation of the DAWs themselves and not the controllers. Mackie was adopted as a standard many years ago and there has been no further development on it. DAW developers need to unite behind one improve standard so thrird-party gear can develop better support. So companies like Icon are forced ti improve their mapping software and then translate it to Mackie. I will explain that in my full review coming soon...
What is the price point on these units?
I don't have that yet but will share as soon as I know.
Thank you. Looking forward to it.😊@@LonelyRocker
The V1-M is $1099 USD and the V1-X is $899 USD.
Thank you Dan! I look forward to more content on these offerings. Keep Doing That Voodoo That You Do!@@Iconproaudio
Wanna reclaim desk space? Just use a mouse.
Ha! That's funny...and so true!
Behringer X-touch is the industry standard as a DAW controller
Ouch. Far from. Not a fan. Sorry.
i dont want another mortgage
Ha! They have cheaper ones too. These are the top of the line controllers.
Nice toy but hell of an overkill for a home studio! What’s the point of having all those channels when you’ll hardly use any of them. 🥴
It’s a personal thing. 8 faders on your desk makes mixing a ton of fun. But of course it’s not for everyone.
Who even sells this product?
A number of retailers....I think they are still slowly rolling this out...check their website...
a 24 track DAW controller all for just 1 guitar player !!!!! Tell me you are a guitar player channel without telling me you are a guitar player channel !!!
Guitar players are ALL about OVERKILL!!! :)))))))
nope
Yep
Sell me your PROX!
Make me a good offer! 😎
Why would you sell it 😅if it’s so good, i can see you sell everything from iCON here , is this sponsored content ?😮
Looks expensive
Expensive is all perspective 😎. It’s 1100 US I believe.
They are trying hard to come up to the level of the SSL DAW controller system. But Icon has not been able to do it. It is an effort that does not really challenge SSL. The build quality is cheap and the functionality is second rate. Overlays? Really? Obsolete. This system is quite disappointing.
Be nice if you put the name of the product you're presenting in your video title, cause no-one has a clue what this is if looking back in RUclips history etc....and I'm sure it is necessary for YT algorithms to sort and proliferate to unsuspecting potential viewership also?✌
Well I dont get it, make a virtuel daw, and then a kontroller, why dont they just make a controller, or like a digital mixer, whit a internal DAW in it, whit an internal DAW, and then people can just connect a screen. All This controller hype is just a money eater. 😉
They kind of do...there are standalone mixer recorders. But companies make software...and then other companies like to make accessories. It's a free market. Buy what you like!
Within 3 months this will be obsolete.
I don't think so. I got my first controller 5 years ago and it's still working great.
I wasted 12 min to to see the demo that wasn’t and moving faders set to rock music.
I did say at the beginning it was just an unboxing….nothing misrepresented here….
You should probably look a bit harder at the replies.
Look for what?
Icon 😂 there the worst of the worst..they have no tech support,no customer services and when they break which they will your screwed.
I’ve been stung with this company twice and many others have had same experience.
Do yourself a favour buy from a better company avoid icon
A 12 minute video with less than 3 minutes of relevance. Unfortunate
My first unboxing video...cut me some slack :). Full review coming very soon. I'll get right to the meat in that one :)
One sentence, no relevance
No. You can’t read titles, it says Unboxing, this is an unboxing.
World is full of a-holes. Just ignore them.
I replied that I was a bit too critical in the post below.
What an expensive joke, sorry, can't take your video seriously 😂
Just because you can’t afford this doesn’t mean many others don’t take this seriously. Because it seems most do 🤘🏽🎸😎
@@LonelyRocker lol you do not know how many money I have. you are also a joke!
Long video to receive little/no information. Appreciate you need to nod to your endorsees but an entire vid to say thanks, open boxes and shove the faders on demo... could have had a first-look of functionality and ease of use with DAW.
Ummmm…the title of the video clearly said UNBOXING. If you expected more that’s on you. I literally made this as a teaser for the full review I’m releasing this week. I’m not endorsed and made no money from this video. It does take effort to make these videos so the odd perk is definitely worth a thank you.
I won't speak to the positives gained by removing things from their boxes before using them but I would feel much better informed-of and potentially interested in Icon or other control surfaces if clear, tangible benefits and/or new possibilities to my workflow and results were demonstrated.@@LonelyRocker
Zero content
Almost 50k views in two weeks proves your theory wrong 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
@@LonelyRockerproves only clickbait 😂
@themover5544 The title says “unboxing” and the video is an unboxing. And in the video I said I’d do a full review soon. 2 weeks later I released a full review. What part of that is click bait?
@LonelyRocker
I can't believe you delete my post almost immediately about my polite disappointment with my new V1-M/X's, (here or on your other video about these) yet let posts like @derprisha2993 stay up...
I didn’t delete your post.
