    ICON is notorious for bad quality components.. so yeah, you having a knob that doesn't work as nicely as the others is par for the course. It's made on the cheap in China with exactly the kind of quality control you'd expect with such a company. Think "Behringer" but even worse quality control. As for admitting fault, don't ever expect it from them.. nor should you expect fixes. They have a long track record of being a really dodgy company. Beware.

      Hi, thank you for your comment.
      While I cannot confirm what you are saying, I do get the impression of this, unfortunately. I wanna remain open and "give a chance" but so far it is not looking good, and I know that iCON are aware of the customer base saying this. Unless things change, I won't feel comfortable buying more products, which in a sense is very sad, since I love the concept of the touch screen being able to program things - and what if they come up with new concept in to a future controller? If I remain as uncomfortable as I am currently - no buy.

    • @niklassilen4313
      @niklassilen4313 3 месяца назад

      @@mix-in That is indeed my main grief with the company. They have awesome potential with well designed products but it's all useless if it's badly made. If they ever do turn around the company for the better I may invest in one of their controllers at some point in the future but once you ruin your reputation it's very difficult to get the trust back from potential customers.

    Thanks for this video. After i watched it I decided to buy... Presonus Faderport v2 to use with "midi remote script" made by some Cubase user... which is the closest to the discontinued CC121.

      With the midi remote script for the P1-M, it is actually much better. Problem is though that you do not get all features from the Mackie protocol and I really like some of the non included ones, such as the global sends feature.

    Great video, was going to consider this DAW controller as well as the SSL. Unfortunately as soon as you said there was an issue with one of the encoders that was me out, the reason being I had a Icon QCon from new when I unboxed it and set it up I had the same problem with one of the encoder’s and there was to much travel in one of the faders.
    For me this isn’t a coincidence, the Icon is cheaper than the SSL controller and I suppose you get what you pay for, it looks good and has some amazing features but I’ll be going with the SSL UF1 & UF8.
    Thank you for pointing out the issue or I might have made the same mistake twice.I wrote this before getting to the end of the video.
    Now I watched it all , in conclusion for me I wouldn’t buy an Icon product again as I have no faith in them as I also had issues with software and connectivity as well as the hardware.
    Keep up the good work

      Thank you for your comment. I personally feel iCON wants to be serious but they fall short, due to these irregularities. The encoder issue, from my point of view, could be pure coincidence. But I have heard sooo many having software issues and this is NOT a coincidence. Despite having new bugs, (minor fortunately still) I remain more happy than unhappy with my purchase. BUT - I do not feel any certainty and therefore, unless things change, I will probably not return to iCON for more purchases.

    😳.....😅Glad i saw this video and comments about it's performance. Was really loving the looks of this controller and the bigger versions but it goes to show that looks are not everything. Icon apparently didn't want to invest anymore money in R&D i guess and decided to use consumers as bug hunters instead of taking the time to properly test and fix software/hardware issues. I must admit though that i was already skeptical about their controllers and software stability when during their demos it was shown that you have to hold down a specific button when starting up your daw. I was like "oh, looks like their programmers cant figure out how to get the Daw and controllers to immediatly communicate with each other during DAW startup without resorting to an end users physical intervention." They need to fire their programmers.🤨

    Great video! I had my eye on many of the new controllers out there before I posted my video on my favorite controller which is unfortunately discontinued. But it does control plug-ins flawlessly. Unfortunately again, it's only made for Pro Tools. However there is software that makes it work with most DAWs. I can't vouch for the functionality. You are right about the third encoder. I just got mine and had it for two weeks and mine does the same. The LED light for the third and fourth channel reads when there’s nothing on the track. The master button half works and this is fresh out the box with the firmware update. The jog wheel works but I notice by default when you turn it it’s just works for each cut or break within your track. For instance, if recording a two track the wheel will do start to end and if you split the beat by making a drop it will got to the next end point or start. I know I’m need to go back and see why my encoder’s are not working with my plugins. I see the red circles around my plugin but when I select Eq or plugin button my device continues to pan. I have the encoder problems, automation, and aux mix and send smh. I’m thinking bout sending it back. I’m looking at the UF8 by SSL. You’re right, they failed with customer service as well as instructions, & certain functions. Great idea tho from what I’ve played with over the years. I feel they should send out massive updates like MPC does to not only make the system better with new upgrades but fixing all the issues that’s been happening over the time of there old and new releases.

      @mix-in  5 месяцев назад +1

      Can I ask what system/daw you are using?
      Seriously, your 3rd encoder specifically is starting to wear out? Would be quite a coincidence.
      I guess I'm one of the "lucky unlucky ones". I have issues but they are not like yours, and I can still use the P1-M to improve my workflow.
      Worth noting I have NOT updated and probably will not until I hear from plenty of people that things are stable. I am still on 1.05 Firmware with the 1.06 iMAP

      Nope, it has to be done by Icon themselves because its an Icon problem.

    tbh, i have tried a few iCon products and they all suffer from knob jittering... so no, they will not fix it, it's a cheap rotary component and no software can fix that... you will either have to live with it or sell it. I personally find this unacceptable and a lot of features they promise, just do not work it practice. I do not recommend iCON products, no matter how tempting they seem at first glance.

    • @mix-in
      @mix-in  2 месяца назад

      I hear you and understand your view. If there would be similar hardware issues on the V1-M then I certainly would agree. With the P1-M that is not that high when it comes to the price, I somehow find it acceptable with imperfect hardware. That does not mean of course that it is to be expected for the hardware to break or wear out, but I think you get my point.
      I am generally happy with the purchase, despite the non-premium hardware feel. I love when it feels premium, but no other was as compact, except the console 1 MK3 from softube, but I wanted faders, and the small size was THE determinator.
      Lastly, as I say in the video, I am not fully comfortable recommending it nor fully purchasing more from iCON how things are looking now. It may change, it may not.

The meter bridge does not give out the proper response (bugs out every know and then). The banks does not work with ableton live (unless there’s a workaround. And the plugin window that can be controlled with the encoders is kind of finicky on my device.Apart from that everything else is ok.

    The tiny jog wheel is indeed a joke. And are those abracadabra abbreviations on the display a remnant of the old Mackie protocol? Lots of missed opportunities by Icon on this controller.

    • @mix-in
      @mix-in  4 месяца назад

      Fortunately I don't have a big need for a jog wheel in my workflow, but if it would be bigger and more like the Nucleus, perhaps I would want to. I also agree that iCON missed opportunities here - If I were them I would try to break free from the Mackie protocol with this controller. They are marketing these controllers as "THE NEW GEN" and imagine if they actually would break free from the Mackie and fix the software bugs. My guess is that these controllers would sell like crazy, however I think that these two things prevent them from doing that.
      I actually believe it is closer to the opposite. Even if I bought this and I am relatively happy with it, I am most likely not to continue with iCON unless they start to address things, and I think my opinion is close to the general opinion, at least for the new iCON user base.

    • @TheJonHolstein
      @TheJonHolstein 3 месяца назад

      @@mix-in I think it would be rather difficult to get DAW makers to implement a new locked protocol, so if iCon developed it, they would have to share it with other hardware makers.
      What we need is the DAW industry, getting together, in some sort of organization and fix a few things. A standard DAW project format. I don't think it would hurt any company, as more people with use more than one DAW, and people that switch, would have an easier time switching back. We also need a new, smarter plugin format, with look-ahead, cross channel communication, network audio and control per channel (to network several computers, in a simple way), and more. And we do need a new control protocol, that actually works, with naming, ordering, presets and custom re-ordering and so on.
      At leas iCon did solve the fader control issue that most mackie controllers have in ableton, where the fader can't send max control value. SSL also solved this.
      I really wanted to get the P1-m, but your review but it was a bit more expensive including the display, than I was expecting, and now this review. And another complaining about the transport controls sitting too close to the jog wheel.
      It is too bad, because the size of this unit is pretty good. And I think SSL really effed up with their UF8 design. Buttons with no function. Duplicated controls when using multiple ones. And a deisgn that is horrible for anyone that would like to use more than one.

      In what way, the color coding you mean?

    • @TheJonHolstein
      @TheJonHolstein 3 месяца назад

      color coding on all similar controllers, as well as second display, has never been universally supported on all DAWs. No other mackie based controller will show color with cubase, I would assume.

    what about a short video of revisiting the controller and talk about, if some of the issues have been solved?

      While I didn't plan to make more videos about the P1-M, at least not for a while, I think I want and "need" to. I want to address things more clear and exact what my issues are. It is mostly how the company don't give the respond the troubled customers have.
      At the same time I could go through stuff I've noticed with the updates.
      So basically yes this will probably be my next video.

    Thank you for the review, the device has very interesting and compelling points for the purchase of it. However, I am undecided whether to get the "Icon" or the "Behringer X Touch". Merely rom the size, the choice would already go to the "Icon". I hope to find a review as comprehensive as yours for the Behringer.

      Thank you, glad you found it compelling!
      If you are willing to risk potentially encountering numerous bugs/issues or if you can purchase it from a distributor that gives you the ability to return the device no matter the reason (like thomann) then I would say go for it.
      I experience that the problem is (I probably have commented this 100 times now haha) that the experience is so irregular. My impression is some people have no issues at all and are bemused at hearing these kind of stories, where others totally experience it. If you are wondering what kind of bugs I have, check out my other video I posted.

      So guess what... I've purchased it yesterday to use it with my Logic pro and immediately encountered massively issues ! Freezes all the time and disconnects showing the message I have to adjust the clock between logic and the external device !?! So there will be a lot of communication with the support to be started...

      @@AleDZmusicProd Not what I wanted to hear.. The help I can give you, which you probably already know is making sure it is connected straight to the computer, nothing in between. Now the support I had also told me to "hide" the 4th port of the iMAP.
      I do not know Logic, but if there is a way to "hide" or "disable" the 4th port inside logic, make sure you try that!

    I enjoyed your informative video and would like to add that one of my disappointments with the P1M is that when you switch channel 8 to Master you lose the LED’s volume level which means you have to rely on your computer monitor to see the levels of the Master Channel.

      Hi, I believe this is a Mackie Control protocol limitation (at least in Cubase). I remember reading about similar issues on surfaces that had a dedicated master fader and meter.
