I'm envious of your studio setup! That looks so inviting to work in. Thanks for the video, Dan - I particularly like the ones that don't require me to be a 6-string enthusiast - but the downside is I don't get to hear your virtuosity!
Thanks Dave! As you know I primarily focus on guitar related topics these days but there are exceptions..and controllers are a big one! :)
Thanks for the video. There are a lot of stories floating around social media about this product and how it doesn’t work properly with various DAWs. I think you have cleared that up now.
Cheers 🙂🇨🇦
Glad it was helpful! Cheers!
Also noticed the mixed reviews, but if the V1-M hardware is solid, and ICON engineering is focused on fixes and improvements, than the controller should be a worthwhile investment. I plan to start with the VM-1 soon.
FWIW, LR's reviews were encouraging.
I do not wanna be that guy, but I want to come with transparency. Perhaps you have seen my review, perhaps not, but I will keep it short. There ARE issues with the new product line. Now it may be the case that it works brilliant for some but for a lot of people it is not, and it is the silent denial from iCON that upsets me more than anything. I am more upset for other people than myself, since my issues is manageable (yet annoying)
I just wanted to give you a truth from the other side, now if you decide to purchase this I absolutely hope your product will be free from any issues and hopefully you have made a splendid implement to your workflow!
@@mix-in can you share your review? Thanks
Thanks for the update
My pleasure!!
This was super helpful, ended up buying a V1-M and 2 V1-X Extenders for my recording studio/broadcast mixing space after watching your original video.. Jump between LUNA for my studio sessions and Studio One for mixing broadcast for livestream, super convenient just to hit a button to jump between DAW's. Been through a lot of different controllers and this is definitely my favorite I've worked with.
Glad it helped! Hope you enjoy your controllers!!!
do u know how many extenders studio one and luna can handle? , thinkin of switching to either or , thanks
Thanks for your input. I am looking to upgrade from a FaderPort-8 and also use Studio One (along with Ableton), and have my finger on a used one locally. Still trying to figure out if I should go for it, or stay pat with what I have. LOL
@@TheJPZ75 I believe you can up to 4 total. Think one of their overview videos mentions it. Just a perspective from a user, I'm 5'4" and not sure if I could reach the ends of the extenders if I had 4 lol.
@@lousyracuse I went from Faderport 16 to these guys, it was a good upgrade for me. I came from mixing FOH and live sound world before so it was nice having the more natural feel of an actual desk.
Super informative vid Dan 😀
Thanks so much Ricky!
Love the look of that board✅inspiring setup
Definitely Italy has a cool look to it. For what that’s worth 😂
I asked them if they’re going to update to where track colors in cubase will be integrated into the v1 and they told me they are currently working with steinberg for that and to stay tuned.
Let's hope that happens...the developers of Cubase need to cooperate with iCon to make this happen. I wish more DAW developers would...fingers crossed!
Notice the master meter doesn't work
What are using for the metronome? I have the handheld Korg MA-2 which is great, but something integrated and easier to dial-in would be cool.
I just use the one in my DAW. And I use a free desktop app sometimes but most,y I just use the one in my DAW.
Thanks so much! I have a question though. Do you know if its possible to designate one extender so that its synced with up to 8 Bus channels? I use Studio One 6 but Just curious.
My pleasure. I’ve been asked that before. It’s just sequential. You can easily whip over to the busses but it’s seen as one big controller. You can’t really break off sections. At least I’ve never figured out a way to do that. Maybe try the fader bank offset setting and push one all the way to the right. Worth a shot.
These are great controllers when they are functioning properly. with one glaring exception you did not mention.….. the firmware upgrade process is a disaster and has been for years with the qcon pro x and now this v1m. icon did not resolve the issues with the firmware like they promised too. Way too easy to brick the units and have a large paperweight on your desk. And an expensive one at that.
Much prefer the SSL UF8 and uF1 system, it is robust, better build quality all around, better functions, works with all daws and firmware upgrades are painless and zero stress. Zero. You get what ya pay for. Would highly recommend the SSL equipment over Icon these days.
The firmware process has gotten a bit better. My only complaint is there is no obvious notification when there is an update. In the end, personal preference I guess...
Generaly speaking , for protools what do you prefer V1-M DAW Controller or QCon
I don’t use Pro Tools but I’m guessing the old QCon will get phased out. And the new imap will make the V1-M more capable.
There is an error with cubase where the vm 1 will get stuck on one fader. If you select a track in the project window of Cubase and hit play then stop, the track that the mv 1 is stuck on will force the Cubase project window to follow it..
This problem has been verified by the icon company. They are aware of it but have not found a solution
This problem will completely stop you from working. You will be forced to reset and turn off Cubase and restart
Expect 5 days before customer support do get back to you
I really like the hardware. But as already mentioned the upgrade and update process is quite poor. And features shown at NAMM a year ago are still not delivered. Especially the colored channel displays. I'm a Cubase user and colored channel displays are described for Bitwig and Cubase in the german manual.
This has been answered numerous times. It’s impossible to implement features that the DAWs themselves don’t implement into the third party protocols.
fader replacement...? If they are anything like Mackie control.. you'll need them.
I’ve had 4 sets of Icon controllers in my studio over the last 5 years and never had a single fader fail. Yes, it can happen. It’s a mechanical part but that has been my experience.
@@LonelyRocker Have you figure out how to access the "fader touch sensitivity" settings?
Any support for mixcraft
It's not listed in the main list of supported DAWs. If it supports Mackie Control then it's possible you can create a custom template much like other non-officially supported DAWs mentioned in this video.
