AUDI RS Q8: Better Than A Lamborghini Urus?

  • I get my hands on the new RS Q8, Audi's first RS SUV. Under the skin, the car is essentially the same as the Lamborghini Urus, so how does it compare?
    From Audi:
The new Audi RS Q8 is the top model in the Q product line. It combines the power of an RS model with the elegance of a premium coupe and the flexibility of an SUV.
“For the first time in the 25-year history of Audi RS models, we are putting a large SUV coupe with the genes of a true high-performance sports car on the road,” said Oliver Hoffmann, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “With its biturbo V8 gasoline engine, the Audi RS Q8 is the prestigious spearhead of the RS model family.”
441 kW (600 hp), 800 Nm (590.0 lb-ft) of torque between 2,200 and 4,500 rpm - the 4.0 liter V8 in the new Audi RS Q8 delivers impressive RS performance. The turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection accelerates the large SUV coupe from Audi Sport GmbH from 0 to 100 km/h (62.0 mph) in just 3.8 seconds and to 200 km/h (124.3 mph) in 13.7 seconds. The 250 km/h (155.3 mph) top speed is electronically governed. With the optional dynamic package, top speed is 305 km/h (189.5 mph).

Conclusion of urus vs RS Q8
Urus is like tony stark, always super high on life and flashy and powerful...
While RS Q8 is Bruce Wayne, slightly stealthy but could become outrageous while in batman suit... 😅

Thank you, Sam, for adding your voice to the growing crowd that understand that all these touchscreens/haptic touch controls are very simply... BLOODY DANGEROUS!!! There's little chance even owners of these cars can develop the muscle memory to operate them routinely without taking their eyes off the road for AT LEAST a second or two - and this is going to get people killed!! Furthermore, they almost invariably make repairs and replacement harder, more involved and awkward PLUS significantly more expensive.
When analogue buttons, switches and dials are cheaper, easier and SAFER, what do you gain from this digital control?? NOTHING, other than sleek/cool and fashionable baubles! I hope the designers of these systems find a good night's sleep hard to come by!! They may not deserve a death sentence, or a place in Hell but I'd willingly shove a cattle-prod up their jacksies and lock the "on" button!!!

    • @Lionheart_He-Man
      @Lionheart_He-Man Год назад +1

I agree, I think buttons or dials are still VERY necessary for owners to drive and keep their eyes on the road while adjusting most routine vehicle settings. I'm still glad I have that in my 2018 Audi Q7 instead of the 2020 and above versions, because the digital screens are too complicated to remember where most functions are. 🙂

@@seenthroughglass I think it’s more the specialness you get for the price that’s the issue. Subdued styling, and same interior option as base car essentially. I just made on on the configurator here in the states this morning, and it’s only black interior and it’s extra $5000 to have extended leather. The q8 is selling poorly compared to its rivals in the states. I actually do like the car but I find it very understated compared to an AMG or M product.

I didn't understand cars like this so drive a fast Audi estate (Avant), but the older I get the less opportunity I get to use its power because of traffic and speed restrictions and the less comfortable it is climbing down into the seat. It's still wonderful to be able to overtake at need though. So I'm beginning to understand fast SUVs. The haters need to give some consideration for the aches and pains that come with age. Alternatively I could just have a mid life crisis and buy a sports car.

You missed out on not taking it quick on some of those tighter bends....it’s unbelievable how flat it remains thru the twisties....and there’s enough power / traction to shift the weight where you want it through the bend.....the issue is actually the width of the car...it’s bloody terrifying. That Bibury road is not a fun spot for a Q8.
I really wish manufacturers would update their Nav’s route calculations so that where possible it keeps you on `A’ roads. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve ended up on a single track lane simply because there isn’t a posted speed limit, so it thinks you can go 60mph on it.

You don't understand that car unless you really throw it around in corners. I drive a Cayenne S, and it's as fast on a highway on ramp as my 996 only with more power out of the corner due to the all wheel drive. The thing is, it doesn't "push into a hedge." The electronics and diffs and all wheel drive kick in and you get what you're paying for when you'll full in the throttle on corner exit. Randy Pobst did an insane lap time at Laguna Seca in the new Cayenne Turbo because the car doesn't just go in a straight line. For anyone not paying attention, this and the Cayenne Turbo and the Urus are all the same platform and very similar. For my money, though, my not very used Cayenne S was just the same money as a Toyota Camry and still 80% of what the highest power models are. And my Cayenne tows my 7,500 lb trailer.
These SUV's are good enough that you can take them out and go for a drive in them. They really ARE revolutionary in how they go around corners.

The sweet spot would be full comfort, comfy heated and cooled AND MASSAGING seats, real leg room, cargo room, ultra comfort ride, but then having the M/S/Sport button where the suspension lowers a bit, stiffens up, and then unlocks the power from 525-550 all the way to 600-625. I WILL NOT give up any comfort whatsoever in my big SUV nor at this price point. Manufacturers need to dial the stiffness and uncomfortableness completely out of all SUV's. Since almost every SUV is still as a board now, from $15k-$315k, and you're going to be uncomfortable no matter what, you might as well get one with 500+ horsepower. I've had them all, with the exception of these 2 in this video, and imo the best thing out there in this segment in the RR SVAutobiography. All of the power without giving up any of the luxury whatsoever. The bargain choice is the older but still current generation RR Autobiography. NOT the SVR. I'll save the shouty stiffness for my sports cars, give me massaging seats and a fridge and 100 speakers...and buttons and knobs for everything instead of 7 touchscreens that look like trash.

I still believe the Urus is better looking and personally I love the RSQ8 for the fact that it carries out elements of the Urus for (in Australia) $250,000 cheaper but I would be constantly kicking myself if I bought it and saw an Urus or a DBX or even a Bentayga because yes it’s half the price but there’s a reason, the Urus is the fastest SUV and the most dramatic, way more than the Audi can do, and it’s kind of like Jeremys comparison with the Rolls Royce Ghost and the Phantom that one day your going to have one on your side and your going to feel more inferior to the Phantom or in this case the Urus no matter what. The RSQ8 is like the Nissan GTR of the SUV’s in the essence that every time someone sees one and someone tries to explain what it is , it’s compared to the faster car like the Turbo S or the 570s, in the Audis case the Urus “It’s the cheaper Lambo” I’ve been told by many people. It can’t be seen as a stand alone car because it’s “The cheaper Urus” That’s why if I was concidering a Super SUV like the RSQ8 but not the Urus or the Bentayga, I would get a Cayenne GTS because it can do everything that the RSQ8 can do but with a Porsche badge and not being compared constantly to the Urus. It looks a lot better, it’s got a lot more character, the interior is less confusing and I’m sure Sam would agree with all those screens in the Audi. And I think it just overall is a better package, I’d rather say I drive a Porsche, than an Audi, I think a Cayenne is cooler than any of its rivals from Mercedes BMW and Audi.

Love the new Audi line. Absolutely in awe of the RS6 avant, especially being a b6 A4 avant owner haha. I think for me, the tail light panel needs to be body color where it's been blacked out, the front emblem needs to be silver or chrome, and the surround to the grill needs to be body color...or even a accent color like a gunmetal....OOHHH wait a black chrome for the emblems and the grill surround, now that would define them but also give it a polished look, yeah yeah that's it. But without It, blends too much with black on black and makes it somewhat pointless. It looks unfinished with those parts black to me. Other then that and maybe wheel selection I love it and would be proud to drive that around everyday for sure.

Everybody forgets that Audi S8+ from 2018 is 605 hp/ 750 Nm. It is not an RS, than makes it even more crazy. An RS8+ would be a dream if it was ever made.

High-quality video, Sam. Superb production value. Nicely done. But the title opines, "Better than a Lamborghini Urus?" Besides subjective 'feelings' are there other possible arguments to make as to why the RSQ8 could be better? The only numbers you seemed to mention were respective vehicle costs. What about a comparison of performance data? Also, the narration was entertaining, albeit a bit frenetic. In all seriousness, how many cups of coffee or tea did you ingest before or during filming?

I agree Sam. If I wanted a comfortable SUV, I’d buy a Range Rover or a diesel X5 maybe. I just don’t like the sporty SUVs. It will be comfortable, efficient and a good long distance car. The Stelvio is the exception to this rule. Then for special occasions, I’d buy a sports car.

Hmmm, performance SUVs aren't really my thing, I understand the popularity of SUVs, but why try to make a large barge drive like a sports car? However, if I were spending this much money on a super-SUV, I'd save a bit more and get a Urus, because you can get an Audi RS car for so much less and buying a Lamborghini is a more unique experience. You get to join the Lambo community and its more eye-catching, the Urus. But at the end of the day, if you want pace and space, a RS 4 is easily up to the job. Okay, you lose that desirable high driving position, but I'd think you'll enjoy it on a Sunday blast more because it's more dynamic than a tall SUV. But, if you really want a high driving position, get the SQ8, you still get that V8 engine, it's fast enough, it doesn't look much worse than the RSQ8 and you save some money. Also, Sam, hardly any Cullinan customer will be looking at an RSQ8 or a Urus I'm sure, totally different take on high-end SUVs....

@@magnustan841 its as "Lambo" as an suv will get. But lets be real a huracan or aventador are undoubtedly a lot more exciting both visually and in the way they drive. Plus the sound of something like a huracan is way beyond the Urus
Now I understand that most people who can afford a Urus can afford a supercar in addition. But to your original comment of saving up to get the Urus... Id save up, skip the Urus, and own 2 cars. One that is a thoroughbred supercar like a huracan, r8, 458 and own a practical daily. That way you get the best of both worlds and your only additional cost would be insurance. For the price of 1 Urus, you could get an audi q5 and a slightly used supercar

the RSQ3 has been out for years @Seen Through Glass so I think your "first RS Q product" statement is a bit inaccurate... But it's miles better than the Lambo. :). Of all the VAG brands Audi represents the best value to me. The quality is excellent. Interiors are amazing. Dealers treat you with respect instead of like it's your privilege to buy their car (which Lambo and Porsche dealers definitely do!). On my fifth straight Audi. :). All but one either an S or an RS. :)
