You’ve summed it up perfectly Pete! I still don’t get these high performance SUVs. Yes, you may as well get one with the 3.0. diesel engine. If you want performance and space, the RS6 makes more sense! But there is a market for these vehicles and thank you for bringing us along again… really enjoyed the Cotswolds and catching glimpse of Dame Darcey 🥰 Cheers, Tom
Had a few Audi quattros - the last was an allroad BiTdi A6. Fantastic car and quicker on the road than Audi portrayed (I suspect to protect the performance credentials of S4s etc). It was nose heavy so understeer was evident if you pressed on but with the air suspension the ride was always great and it could do 40 mpg easily. Then I got a Maserati Levante S (wanted to get away from dirty diesel). Glorious car, handled well (50:50 weight distribution)…. But you get into the daily driving being 20 mpg and a ‘good’ long run maybe 26 or 27 mpg, Gone PHEV now (I have solar panels and a Tesla battery) and it’s a good fit for me. Short trips are free if I can charge off the roof or very low cost on an EV tariff and I have a fast SUV if I want to dip into it - Volvo XC60 T8 (455 ps combined so sub 5 to 60)
This is my aspirational car, but car prices in Singapore is just insane so i’ll stick with my 2021 Q5 for now. I’ll live vicariously through your video.
Great review Pete. I think you’re right about the ‘under the radar’ looks of this car. A great car in many ways, (apart from it’s thirst for the go juice!) but if you’re spending that amount of money I think you want the car to look special ….
Hello buddy, I’m finished on the farm finally, sooooo it’s catch up time. Started with this video simply as we looked at one of these in Huntingdon Audi earlier. Kind of sizing beside the RS6. 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
Great Video!! Love these real world car reviews. I've said stuff before about your channel covering Electric cars but it's nice that you include different types of cars for different people, I just don't like as a consumer that we are been pushed into electric and there is a time limit on gas powered cars it's not a personal attack on you or your videos. Really like your videos and you as person and will look forward to more content, EVs aside cough 😂
The wheels may not be quite what you expect for such an expensive car but at least the lads manning the local car wash will appreciate how easy they are to clean.
Agree with the bland label on this particular car. However if money was no object I’d go for the RSQ8 Mansory, definitely not bland looks with 750 ps & 1000 nm torque. Can only admire from afar though.
Great review enjoyed all of it. The car looked good and performance was epic would pass most things apart from a pump. A great car to have, alas justifying it today would be difficult. Still wrestling with ones conscience can also be fun between gas stations.
Good honest review Ped. I personally have never liked or owned an Audi out of the many cars I’ve had. As these cars move down the food chain I suspect they will be problematic as they fall out of the Audi dealership servicing. A pinnacle of a soon to be redundant technology !
As you told me about your intention to drive up to Cheshire after the Podium Place I was surprised to hear that you stayed in Newbury as did I for my onward journey the next day. Torrential rain later that night so a wise decision
I can fit a bicycle including my electric Storck, without removing anything, into my ‘09 Civic and know an Audi A3 does as well. Lay the bike on its left, to protect the derailier , and turn the bars so the font wheel drops between the front seat and the lowered rear seats. Place blanket over bars to protect seat from brake levers etc.
As you said Ped. The car looks totally different in Carbon Black edition or Vorsprung trim. But the price and fuel consumption is rediculas. As an Audi owner and fan. I'd go for the Macan GTS. Great video Ped.
Hi Ped Not disappointed with this review🤭 however the spec, the price, and the fuel consumption 😥😥. I have loved all the Audi’s I have owned over the years, and your review confirms my satisfaction with my SQ5, smaller yes, but at least you can fit in a supermarket car park. It performs reasonably well with its 340 ps. The economy does not break the bank, mid 30 to 40 mpg without trying and 27mpg towing twin axle weighing in @ 2000kg. Reckon I have a bargain😉And it looks good in Navarro Blue metallic, with pan roof & 21” wheels! @ half the price new🤭
I have an SQ7 and when towing a 2 tonne caravan can get 20mpg which for a 4.0 petrol I think is good. On a run to work, 40 miles each way, I can get over 30. Don’t have to drive like you stole it to press on in it
I came out of an B9.5 RS4 in to an SQ8, fast, comfy and full of tech but it was just too big and didn't look special enough. Everyone who knows, knows an RS4 or and RS6 whether they are in front of you or behind you on the road, they just stand out, the SQ8 didn't and I couldn't come to terms with the false exhaust tips which I feel is letting Audi as a premium brand down. The V8 is an absolutely superb engine having had it in couple of S and RS cars in the past, but it is like running a small country. Needless to say my love affair with the SQ8 was short lived, great first date, followed by a bit of a fumble then we fell out and had to go our separate ways, all the space of 3 months. Back in an RS4 where I should have stayed, bike in the back or bike on the roof, plenty quick enough, looks good, doesn't cripple you at the pumps and you get the recognition from people who know.
Great video and the RSQ8 looks impressive. I guess at that price point fuel economy may be a lesser concern but I’d agree that the SQ7/8 ticks a lot of boxes for less money. I did double take watching you in the video drive past Kingsmead and Davenham (we’re in the next village down from there). Delights of the Premier Inn Leftwich by any chance? Keep up the great work!
@@PetrolPed Ah very nice, used to live in Davenham near to the Bull’s Head. Looks like you had a great time at Oulton Park and keep up the great content. RS e-tron GT here but the RSQ8 looks great fun if one can stomach the fuel bill 😊
Pete. Modern V8 SUVs are thirsty. My 4-cylinder XC90 T8 only gives me 36mpg on the long run. But I do take your point about looks. For that money I want something that shouts V8. 🤪
@@PetrolPed I understand that if economy was a major factor. I am a petrol head and when we decided to sell the Motorhome and buy a caravan, I decided that having to part with my 911 didn’t mean I had to sacrifice fun and noise. Love the SQ7 and its practicality and the noise is addictive.
What a lovely car! Audi seem to do a great job of preventing their displays from looking as though they were nailed on as an afterthought. Job well done there! BUT...ceramic coating an e-bike? What an idea! My bikes are almost always covered in dirt and filth and grease from my daily rides. Now I'm thinking ceramic coating would make my bikes easier to keep clean. If you feel like it (and can fit it your videos), tell us about your experiences with a ceramic-coated bike. Mahalo for a very nuanced and multi-faceted report!
800Nm divided by 1.356 gives a figure of 590 Ft lbs, that's a decent Ferrari of torque right there! But I'm thinking of getting my Astra 1.9 Cdti Estate Caravan Design jacked up so I can see through from behind these cars when I'm up their chuff trying to overtake. Stealth is more my style, and mine still has it's basic look and badges, so no one realises that it has zero mods at all! Oh and I love your Trek Rail (9.9 X0 AXS T-Type Gen 4 ?), and just watched the vid you made when you collected it a second time. Hmm 11 0'clock already, time to start thinking about Lunch Control.
I like this SSUV based on the top Q8 like the lower SQ8 model both with a sloping rear roofline ‘sportsback’ and the SQ7 7-seater to their 5-seater with two folding seats from the rear luggage compartment, but with more head room in the rear as it has a roofline like the Porsche Sport Tourismo Panemara compared to the coupé sloping rear roof. Forget all the negative comments about the price: About the same as most Porsche low and mid range 911, but practical (seats 5 or 7 plus luggage)and room for a family to travel miles in comfort with luggage. Compared to the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus which use the same VW Group petrol TFSI 4L bi-turbo V8 the SQ7; SQ8 and RSQ8 do, its an absolute bargain. It’s out of the league of the detractors: You can’t get a Lamborghini Urus at its retail of £180K. A top RSQ8 Vorsprung spec is about £125K - £129K and the best value Vorsprung SQ7 at Crewe Audi (all then dealerships are part of Crewe based Swansway Group) and the main UK Lamborghini dealer sells used Urus form £226K - £260K and this brand new for £125K currently two brand new top spec Vorsprung models with sliding panoramic roof one in pearlescent Daytona Grey at Carlisle Audi and one just in at Blackburn Audi but in Nardo Grey (both named after test tracks - Nardo is Fiat’s old test track in Italy now owned by Porsche). And the Mythos Black metallic SQ7 at Crewe Audi all come with 3-year-Audi Warranty and 3-year Road side assistance from the AA or RAC. They mentioned the SQ7 in the latest Collecting Cars Podcast, that the SQ7 is used to go skiing in. Becky Evans had a RS6 and it and the RS7 and S8 all have the same engine and she said she spent about £1,500 in petrol in 6 weeks driving around Ireland last October 2022. The basic SQ8 is about £90 K, but you have to specify equipment that comes as standard on the RSQ8: They both have air suspension but the mild hybrid 48V driven by electric motors to keep the car flat around high speed corners has to be specified in the SQ8 as the S Sports pack and comes with night infra red vision for countryside driving.
You may have been a bit savage about the mpg, especially as you were driving it in Sport and using launch control. I think in the real world an owner of one of these would do a lot better. And at GBP115K price, they probably can afford to fill it up twice a week! Love an Audi. They're just so good!
You don't have to be a millionaire to be able to afford one. If you can put down a deposit about £30K or more, your monthly repayments can be around £1200 a month or more. I've got friends who own cars like these and they are far from a millionaire.
Hello Peter….It is a lot of car to like and an experience at times but that petrol consumption would really start to upset you after a while. I also think £114000 is a good way to lose a fortune on it….it will be an impressive buy for £65,000 after two years but only an optimist would buy it with saved money!🤔😃😃😃😃Richard.
i paid less than 340k for a 2 year old audi etron55, loooks similar and 0-60 in around 5.2 seconds and has launch control. it is free to fill up from my solar panels and can fit my trek mountain bike
It's a formidable buying proposition the RSQ8...obviously a great car ...but for me I'd rather wait for the new upcoming Audi RSQ6 E-tron which is hopefully arriving sometime next year. With over 600hp and a cutting edge 100 Kwh battery the performance will be there but even more importantly so should the range as 300 miles even in winter looks to be a possibility.
Very good review, but I was waiting for the cost comparison with its cousin Porsche Cayenne GT? I'm going to have a look at the Porsche configurator to see how much a low spec GT Cayenne is. Be back in a bit.........
Ahhh it's not a direct rival for the GT, but it's similar to the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe which comes in at £136,000 with 22" wheels and Radar cruise control.
It's quite the car but very understated but it would not get me to swap from a JLR product even though I was a huge fan of Quattro's as a boy into his rally cars, Those 22" rims look like 18"'s on that car and I think I would want carbon on those silver accents at the front for that kind of money.
Probably in my younger days but The Defender 110 would be 1st on the shopping list these days as the big 60 is only 3 months away and just found out I will be a Grampa in spring 2024. @@PetrolPed
Ped we're not all 15 yr old carwow subscribers! Don't leave it in sport on a B road holding on to lower gears, stick in Auto and you'll have more than enough to deal with anything and you'll probably get your 25 mpg more often than not. Good stuff otherwise though and thanks for another top review 👍
Hi ped i would definitely agree with you it is a very impressive machine but it is just too understated for me as i would like a car like that too really look like an RSQ8 should do really butch
Great video this one. A bit different to your normal car review. Amazing car but if I had £120K to spend on a car, it wouldn't be this one. If I wanted a V8 it would have to be in a sports car, if I wanted an SUV I would be something a bit more practical and cheaper.
Agreed if its not your only car. And that's the only point of a uber-performance SUV, if you have no other choices to drive. If its your daily driver and you have other performance options, save the money, and put the "U" into SUV. That's why I bought a Q5 Sportback 45 TFSI, and use one of my other 4 performance cars for driving Thrills. No V8, but all NA, 4, straight 6, flat 6 and V12 👌👍(ITR, BMW M, 911 Carrera , Aston.
Great content Pete, as ever! The trade off with a big , fast SUV is always going to be the MPG! Still Audi know how make great looking and fast SUV’s. But what’s going on with those wheels? Awful!
Wheels can make or break a design. Those on this car are horrendous. They look like wheels you would put your winter tyres on. If I paid 114k on the car I'd give it back. Audi have lost the plot with their performance cars of late. Too expensive for what you get with better faster less expensive offerings from the other German manufacturers. I love the gold colour option available not the rep. standard blue. BTW 600 PS is about 590bhp. Until the recent performance model of the RS6 was launched their RS models lagged behind their competitors power wise and while BMWs typically developed more power than their ratings the Audis just make their rated power or even a little less. Audi RS line are the ultimate moneymaking machines.
great review as always, but for that money you can have a faster(2.95 to 62), quieter lotus Eletre SUV (electric) or if you want 4.5 sec to 62 and 373 miles range, you can save a further £30,000 and get the 'base' model. my point is, for those that want all that RSQ8 offers but wouldn't sleep at the mpg.... there are options that are cheaper, faster, same or better spec, and quieter
Even when you drive on the wrong side of the road... I wonder how you would drive in Germany on the autobahn! That car can drive much, much faster than you think.
People complain about EV’s but my new BMW iX M60 is cheaper, has more power & torque so is quicker, weighs about the same and has more range 🤷🏼♂️ The only thing missing is the engine noise.
Nice car, crazy fuel consumption not affordable for most in this day and age, as an ex owner of a 2nd Gen Cayenne 4.8S V8 ask me how I know! I like those wheels BTW, but then I am old 😄
Interesting. Six minutes into this video and I note that my 2015 4.2 Cayenne Diesel S has more torque (850Nms) and that I don’t have to take the front wheel off of my similar bike.
I'd just buy an RS6 if I wanted that powertrain and still have the practicality. Don't really see the point of the RSQ8 but I suppose people want that 'SUV' look. You just get higher weight and less economy as a result.
Haven’t watched yet but in case nobody else has commented - headline says thirtsy not thirsty (of course I could be missing something so apologies if that’s deliberate)
A nice Green or Orange would liven it up. But it screams for attention from Mr policeman or maybe some other undesirable persons. Stealth is probably the way to go. But would this be your only car?. But it needs a hybrid mode to assist with mileage, aka SF90?
Those wheels on a 100 grand plus RS🤦♂️ shocking from Audi. I was an Audi fan for over 2 decades. I traded my SQ5 last year for an X4M Competition. Audi really need to up their game. I would even go for Mercedes over Audi now. Never thought I would ditch Audi for BMW.
You’ve summed it up perfectly Pete! I still don’t get these high performance SUVs. Yes, you may as well get one with the 3.0. diesel engine. If you want performance and space, the RS6 makes more sense!

The real star of the show.... that jacket 😂
Glad you like it 👍
Is there any real. advantage of the RSQ8 over the SQ8, which at least here in the US has the same powertrain at a significantly lower price.
More power and a bit faster 😜😂
Great suv , thanks
No problem 👍
Hello Peter….It is a lot of car to like and an experience at times but that petrol consumption would really start to upset you after a while. I also think £114000 is a good way to lose a fortune on it….it will be an impressive buy for £65,000 after two years but only an optimist would buy it with saved money!🤔😃😃😃😃Richard.
The consumption is really no surprise, my neighbors Cayenne Turbo does 12 mpg around town on the Autobahn it’s about 8 mpg.
i paid less than 340k for a 2 year old audi etron55, loooks similar and 0-60 in around 5.2 seconds and has launch control. it is free to fill up from my solar panels and can fit my trek mountain bike
Gareth Cheeseman springs to mind if you remember him
It's a formidable buying proposition the RSQ8...obviously a great car ...but for me I'd rather wait for the new upcoming Audi RSQ6 E-tron which is hopefully arriving sometime next year.
Nice 👌
It's quite the car but very understated but it would not get me to swap from a JLR product even though I was a huge fan of Quattro's as a boy into his rally cars, Those 22" rims look like 18"'s on that car and I think I would want carbon on those silver accents at the front for that kind of money.
I reckon you would be more a RR Sport SVR kinda guy 😜👍
Probably in my younger days but The Defender 110 would be 1st on the shopping list these days as the big 60 is only 3 months away and just found out I will be a Grampa in spring 2024. @@PetrolPed
Have a 2018 SQ5 and prefer the SQ8 as a potential upgrade. This RSQ8 is nice but expensive
Certainly doesn’t look £110k. Those who like it probably love it, subjectivity defined.
The Godfather 😂 nice 😎👍
hanging out with Tiff Needell AND racing? That's a solid week. How'd the RSQ8 hold up on the track?
Sadly I wasn’t allowed to take it on track 😢
Hi ped i would definitely agree with you it is a very impressive machine but it is just too understated for me as i would like a car like that too really look like an RSQ8 should do really butch
Great video this one. A bit different to your normal car review. Amazing car but if I had £120K to spend on a car, it wouldn't be this one. If I wanted a V8 it would have to be in a sports car, if I wanted an SUV I would be something a bit more practical and cheaper.
Fair enough 👍
Agreed if its not your only car. And that's the only point of a uber-performance SUV, if you have no other choices to drive. If its your daily driver and you have other performance options, save the money, and put the "U" into SUV. That's why I bought a Q5 Sportback 45 TFSI, and use one of my other 4 performance cars for driving Thrills. No V8, but all NA, 4, straight 6, flat 6 and V12 👌👍(ITR, BMW M, 911 Carrera , Aston.
Launch control with oncoming traffic! You're not on a track, it's a public road. If it had gone wrong the consequences would have been awful.
Great content Pete, as ever!
The trade off with a big , fast SUV is always going to be the MPG!
Still Audi know how make great looking and fast SUV’s. But what’s going on with those wheels? Awful!
Absolutely
The wheels are shockingly boring…for an RS product disappointed…and l know you can spec better wheels but for the money…. Terrible
looks like a 3.0 diesel
@@PaulTC97 yep…..👍🏻
Those wheels are so bland. You're 💯right!
Pete I think will need a chat about wheels
Surprised you had to remove the front wheel. My road bike fits in my golf without removing anything
That eBike is considerably bigger than a road bike. My road bike would have gone in with the wheels on 👍
Have you listened to Collecting Cars Pod this week!? 😆
No. What’s the subject ? I’ll tune in tomorrow 👍
@@PetrolPed Audi!
I guess compared to the urus is good bargain for what it offers but Unfortunately I’ll still have to wait another 10 years to afford one😂
great review as always, but for that money you can have a faster(2.95 to 62), quieter lotus Eletre SUV (electric) or if you want 4.5 sec to 62 and 373 miles range, you can save a further £30,000 and get the 'base' model. my point is, for those that want all that RSQ8 offers but wouldn't sleep at the mpg.... there are options that are cheaper, faster, same or better spec, and quieter
Audi RSQ8 for a week sounds like an epic time. Did it live up to the hype for everyday use though?
Yep 👍
Yup, whats the point in the UK? I suspect these are made more for the Middle East where fuel is way cheaper and the ability to pay for it way higher
Even when you drive on the wrong side of the road... I wonder how you would drive in Germany on the autobahn! That car can drive much, much faster than you think.
Driving on different sides of the car and different sides of the road is no problem at all 👍
People complain about EV’s but my new BMW iX M60 is cheaper, has more power & torque so is quicker, weighs about the same and has more range 🤷🏼♂️
The only thing missing is the engine noise.
Those things are epic 👌👍
Nice car, crazy fuel consumption not affordable for most in this day and age, as an ex owner of a 2nd Gen Cayenne 4.8S V8 ask me how I know! I like those wheels BTW, but then I am old 😄
😂😂😂
Interesting. Six minutes into this video and I note that my 2015 4.2 Cayenne Diesel S has more torque (850Nms) and that I don’t have to take the front wheel off of my similar bike.
😂😂😂
At that price a would take the full fat RR. Would you ?🤔
Tempting 👍
A week with the RSQ8? Man
Cheers mate
I'd just buy an RS6 if I wanted that powertrain and still have the practicality. Don't really see the point of the RSQ8 but I suppose people want that 'SUV' look. You just get higher weight and less economy as a result.
I really like the looks of this car! If only it could be shrunk to normal size..
😂😂😂
Have a look at the RSQ3
@@berniesutton7277 a crossover? sorry that's not an improvement ;) maybe the RS3, but I'm all for pillar-less doors!
@@MdvK13979 I didn't realise you also meant traditional shape
Wait for the RSQ6 E-tron to appear....hopefully next year...😉
Haven’t watched yet but in case nobody else has commented - headline says thirtsy not thirsty (of course I could be missing something so apologies if that’s deliberate)
Someone has already let me know 😜😂
Slowing down for speed bumps (on the Fish Hotel driveway) in an RSQ8?
Hmmm 🤔
If you can afford this car you are not worried about fuel economy or insurance.
True 🤔😂
I can recommend the race vid.
Thank you 🙏🏻
A nice Green or Orange would liven it up. But it screams for attention from Mr policeman or maybe some other undesirable persons. Stealth is probably the way to go. But would this be your only car?. But it needs a hybrid mode to assist with mileage, aka SF90?

I love it pp I what one please 🎉🎉🎉🎉
would you say it's worth the price tag?
No. I’d go SQ8. 90% of the car for much less money 👍
RS3 more than enough just for me 😺
Those wheels on a 100 grand plus RS🤦♂️ shocking from Audi. I was an Audi fan for over 2 decades. I traded my SQ5 last year for an X4M Competition. Audi really need to up their game. I would even go for Mercedes over Audi now. Never thought I would ditch Audi for BMW.
