- After four days of jury selection, twelve jurors and six alternates have been selected for former President Donald Trump's hush money trial in New York. Judge Juan Merchan informed the jurors that they should be prepared for opening statements to begin on Monday.
Trump faces 34 felony counts in a New York court for falsifying business records related to payments to cover up alleged extramarital affairs.
Trump has lamented that the trial is "very unfair," criticizing the judge for continuing to impose a gag order that prohibits him from talking about certain individuals tied to the trial. "What's happening here with the judicial system is an outrage," Trump said as he left the courthouse Friday.

I think he's probably broken some laws in the course of this lifetime, but I believe this to be 100% political persecution in its nastiest form. I also don't think many of the people accusing him of wrong-doing aren't also guilty of wrong-doing themselves, but the DOJ seems heavily slanted against Conservatives.

So a lawyer tries to extort his client so he can recoup the equity line money he set-up for his girlfriend. The client knew nothing about it and paid his lawyer monthly fees as all people who have lawyers do. The girlfriend said there was no affair with the client and lost in court when She tried to 1st claim they did. Her lawyer went to jail trying to extort her. Both lawyers knew what they were trying to do with their clients. there was no need to pay hush money. That was a lie. The lawyers payments were made after the election. Sounds like a soap opera. The case has no merit and shouldn't even be in court.

His lawyer already went to jail for the crime, but you think trump is the victim and knew nothing about it. That is not what his former lawyer is going to say. Trump claims he did not have an affair. So....by using past cases they plan on entering an argument based on subject matter that has already been litigated? What an interesting loophole to the 5th Amendment's double jeopardy clause. Double jeopardy only applies to previous criminal cases in which you were found innocent and cannot be tried for again. Prior bad acts for which you have been found guilty, whether criminal or civil, may be admissible with some limitations.

My remembrance of the rules of evidence which I studied 30 years ago is sketchy at best. The only answer I can give is that prior bad acts would be admissible if it’s relevance to the current case outweighs its prejudicial value. The Court will decide on a case by case basis as a motion will always be made to keep that evidence out. Fortunately or unfortunately , some bad acts have a lifetime of consequences.
