Welcome to this week's alternative special... Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
After so many years, Efra finally gets to experience the movie he 's wanted to see for such a long time... It was so highly spoken about due to the iconic tracks by Arijit Singh and the appearance of Aishwarya Rai.
Interestingly enough, this is one of the worst movies that we have ever reviewed on the channel. Pure suffering, bad script, bad acting, bad directing, AWESOME 3 SONGS.
Efra has completely lost it once again, with aishwarya rai.
Hope you enjoy our dissection and analysis of this movie, a ton of lessons to learn and some magical moments nontheless.

okay we definitely need an anushka sharma redemption now. She's genuinely a fabulous actor but her character in this movie is pretty insufferable. You guys should watch PK (with Aamir Khan), Band Baaja Baaraat (romcom with Ranveer Singh), or Dil Dhadakne Do (with Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra, directed by the same director as Zindagi na milegi dobara) to see more of her! They're really good movies!

Anushka is a brilliant actress, her acting looks bad to you because even she hated the character and can not relate to it.
She acts the same in almost all of her movies. I don't remember her unique acting till now in any movie. I think sometimes even Varun Dhawan acted better.

The guy who played DJ Ali, is Fawad Khan. Pakistan's No#01 actor. It was his cameo in this movie same as Srk and Alia.
And the guy who played Alizeh's boyfriend in the start of the movie is also a finest Pakistani Actor "Imran Abbas".

Waleska, I have to say this. I rarely comment but you have completely misunderstood Alizeh's character. When Ayan asks "Why can't you love me" and Alizeh replied "I do love you but not in the way you want". You, Waleska, said "Don't lie" to this character. However, Alizeh never lied. She always wanted to be best friends with him and never more, because she was consumed by DJ Ali's love. That is why the first half of the movie is so chill, light and short of anything serious. You have commpletely missed the intention of Alizeh's character, of finding a friend, a home, her person as she did not have a family anymore. That is why the FIREPLACE scene. She got the warmth from their friendship. If anything, Ayan's character is the wrong one. Toxic storyline, if at all, how he behaves to force Alizeh to love him and then leaves Saba as well in the end.
And Anushka isn't a bad actor. Further, you were praising her acting when she was packing her stuff to avoid DJ Ali, LOL, like she chose to act bad or acts badly. HOWEVER, the character required that degree of acting, that cheeky, perky, less emotional acting. Because that portrayed the ease of their evolving friendship, at least from Alizeh's side. Moreover, if it is to be judged, the director should be judged for such weird plot and acting. Watch other movies of Anushka Sharma before you make up your mind to hate an actor, like you do Shraddha and ABCD movie series.
Yeah, I didn't get what part of the film Anushka was bad at acting in🤣 Her character is insufferable sure, but in no way was Anushka's performance bad. I've always felt this was one of her most natural performances.

Like the movie from beginning to end is torture porn. I really find it strange when people not only like it but go as far as loving this movie.
For your next watch, I'd suggest Om Shanti Om or Laila Majnu, it's a real underrated masterpiece, also beautiful music or Bhool Bhulaiya, if you're up for some fun movie experience mixed with some horror elements

This is the most progressively boring movie and probably the worst film directed by Karan Johar. Extremely overrated. No wonder the lead heroine herself hated her character & couldn't relate to her. Although karan says this is his most personal film but as a karan johar loyalist even I can't lie that much. The movie is shit. Barring the sequences with Aishwarya rai and some serious moments leading up to channa mereya the movie has nothing. Sorry that you guys had to go through it.

I think something you need to understand about Alizeh's character especially at the beginning is that she acts like that, aka cringe purposefully, thats her way of coping, then when she sees Ali again her true self appears. She is just hiding behind, that cringe unserious acting. So I'd say Anushka actually did a pretty decent job delivering it

I’m saying this in a really respectful and nice way that I think if you checkout a movie mostly based on its music then you might limit the type of movies you watch 😅 you won’t be able to explore other genres like comedy, horror, science fiction etc. I’m not saying to stop watching music based movies but once in awhile you can give chance to other movies as well to expand the genres :)

She is not a weak artist. It's just that the movie is so much unnecessary melodrama which isn't helped by the fact that the characters are bollywood fans
aye see alizeh and ayan were best friends okay but then ayan started loving her and alizeh did not, alizeh did love him a lot as a best friend but the love he wanted from her was not the kind of love she loved him as, so eventually it was pure hearted friendship from alizeh
A better Anushka Performance and just a better movie you guys should watch is PK.
It's not really a music heavy movie, although the music that is there is great, but it is a very special film.
It could introduce you to Rajkumar Hirani films. You guys could then watch 3 Idiots and Munna Bhai. Just avoid Dunki.

TBH I honestly remembered only the songs from this film which are iconic to this day (mainly Bulleya, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Channa Mereya). I didn't remember how bad the movie was. Also, I don't think Anushka is a very bad actor. I think that the character was very bad but acting was just ok. She's no Nargis Fakhri 😶

Ranbir’s character (Ayaan) was trash in this movie, one who’s unable to move on from an unrequited love. Anushka’s character stood her damn ground until the end; she didn’t fucking owe him anything since she didn’t love him the way he WANTED her to. It was just Ayaan’s immaturity.
Y’all should really see other movies that Anushka has starred in, such as Band Baaja Baraat and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi; she’s genuinely really good.

The best part is that Ranbir had a crush on Ash when he was younger, he used to be on set because Ash has worked with his dad or something in the past so this movie was a full circle moment for him. But oh the photoshoot for this movie ft Aishwarya and Ranbir were ICONIC.

Which the whole movie centers around her, not just ranbir which explains why they hated the movie. But its a dumb reason because they weren'tl able to enjoy these 2 friends navigate their love for Bollywood, and the one-sided love aspect.
I cant defend the film because it was universally one of the most panned films of Karan Johar. But I would like to defend Alizeh (in only one aspect). It seems to me like yall misunderstood what she meant when she said all through the film that she did love Ayan. She did love him, but she loved him like a friend and that is all she could see him as. I dont see why she is a bad person for that? She never gave him false hope or led him on. That was basically the entire point of the film. He loves her, she loves him, but only as a friend. It is apparently an account of a relationship from Karan's life.

Two of the male characters in this film were Pakistani actors and indian film industry/govt banned Pakistani actors and started penalising directors that used them...i reckon this is the reason for the disjointed plot as alot of their scenes were cut and therefore v likely alot of cut scenes were probably put back and of course the film ending probably had to be changed as a result of all this. Songs were the redeeming feature. But deffo on that note I'd recommend bajrangi bhaijaan next!
Just for trivia, the story is autobiographical. Karan went through something like this, ofcourse it didn’t end with cancer (i hope cause that was dumb).. but he fell in love with someone who didn’t feel that way and in some ways he wrote Ranbir’s character similar to himself (some of the quirks).. this movie is was quite personal to him.. the name of Ranbir’s character is Ayaan inspired from his friend and mentee Ayan Mukherji, director of Yeh Jawani hai deewani, Wake Up Sid and Brahmastra.. you can see Ayan in the title track when the camera pans out in the beginning. he is the one with the camera in the background..
In a recent interview he shared that the person that inspired the writing for Alizeh (apparently they’re not of the film industry in any way, they’ve got a whole different life) reached out to him after they saw the film and realised it might be about them. It was one hell of an awkward conversation to have, according to Johar, but they had it, and the person apparently went back to their life as if nothing had ever happened.

Anushka is actually a phenomenal actress. The script was a bit disjointed, her character was unrealistic from the start and this is her first movie after getting lip fillers, if I remember correctly. Those factors just added up and her acting seemed very minimal at the beginning. Other than that, she is incredible and now she has trained herself to be able to perform at her original level, even with her new face.
Watching with subtitles makes you miss many things that a desi viewier would watch and get. And you said it right.. you didnt connect with her character from the beginning..
You should watch SULTAN starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma.... it's amazing Story, amazing songs and the acting is good too.... Anushka Sharma is really good actor this movie is just crap you should give her another chance

I could understand and empathize with every single character...
Alizeh loved her ex. She'd go back to him no matter how many times he broke her heart. Sometimes we stay with people who clearly are no good to us, because they bring out a side of us, we like in ourselves. Sometimes we hold onto memories and go back looking for the person we fell in love with, even if that person was just a figment of your imagination.
Ayan was a rich lonely young man. He had girls drooling and falling over him for his money. But Alizeh was where he felt comforted. His inner child felt seen and heard. Perhaps his love language was physical touch. Perhaps it was his age that made him believe that love can exist only in a romantic sense.
Saba was a lonely gorgeous woman. And obviously was thrilled to be the fancy of this handsome young man. It validated and pampered her ego that she still was beautiful and desirable.
The movie makes you feel confused, enraged and dissociated from the characters, because that's how the characters feel. They're all confused, messed up and dissociated from their own heart and soul. You feel zero emotional connection because that's the level of emotional connection the characters have with their own self and others.
They're all autumn leaves drifting with the wind of their emotions and life situations.

If you want to see real acting I think it is time you saw Guzaarish. I think you saw the trailer for the movie. It has Hrithik Roshan as a paraplegic man with Aishwarya Rai as his nurse.. Efra, I am sure that should be enough to entice you! And Waleska..you have to be ready to cry a lot! But worth watching
