I have been teaching Jujutsu for 38 years and I must say you guys are the real deal, I love the techniques ! I'm from USA/ Indiana. And teach "Midori Kazoku Bushi Jujutsu !
Very interesting. One of the most complete systems I've seen. Techniques from BJJ, Judo, Kickboxing, Karate, Muay Thai knees, Krav Maga etc. The most important thing today is to be a complete fighter. A well-rounded fighter. Very interesting, good job!!
Actually, Japanese Jujutsu schools did evolve into non-armor fighting techniques over time as the Samurai found themselves getting into more combat situations without body armor. They didn't just learn how to fight in armor only.
@muipo0 yes, striking is involved in jujutsu. Many times you must strike someone in order to soften them in order to pull something off. Take their mind off of what it is already on. Vital areas in almost every text that is written are included.......and also consider weapons being involved as well.
Hokutoryu ju jutsu just gives you the tools for self defense is up to you how to use it... Martial arts is not only about tecniques it`s also about people... Hokutoryu ju jutsu rocks
Well The soke has been named to predessor for Richard Morris style and the the style is a member of world jujutsu federation so looks guite legit to me. You are right the style is a combination of jujutsu, karate and boxing.. The japanese name of the style is a complement for the japanese budo roots..
@Skumbanan312 this school is in Finland, which is next to Russia. Considering the AK is made in Russia and the AK is the most popular assault weapon on earth; it makes sense for them to be familiar with that weapon
Man I'd just love to become a Monk and dedicate my life to something like this. It's damn difficult to master anything with all the damn busywork of modern life.
@Nigel Sanford wait so there's actually striking in Judo? Kano actually did some karate training in, I thought classic Japanese jujutsu always had atemi waza?
To all those guys, who write about, how this is not Jiu-Jitsu and disrespectful to the style etc. You, guys better wake up. First of all JJ was born and used for the use on a battlefield, so complaining about it being brutal is just funny.
Excellent video, and I agree with Streetefective. I note quite a bit of dissention within the comments, and it's nonsense...ramblings posted by folks with no videos of themselves doing anything showing they know anything (I take that back, there is some knot-tying), and complaints about it being "rough." I for one enjoyed this, and thank you for posting.
Did you hear the one about the Goto Ha Yagyu Shingan Ryu instructor who tried to do something similar? Unfortunately, with the number of neck breaks, back breaks, etc. in that curriculum only one student survived the first class... The Koryu (and their descendants') methods of training are not about a stilted "respect" or "gentleness", they are at heart a way of practicing martial, not sport, techniques in a safe way. The respect is an outgrowth of the trust the training partners must have.
Second - all this sentimental and thoughtful nonsense about being soft, not using full contact, be gentle with your partner is fine... for as long as you stay inside the dojo. Once you on the street - nobody is going to be gentle and respectful and your only aim is to disable your attacker. And if you do not train in realistic conditions - you going to to get harmed or even die. Plain and simple.
This kind of JJ is very practical and cannot be undervalued. For those worried about martial artists abusing their skills, just type in fights on RUclips and see how many vids come up that include a martial artist getting into it with someone else- few if any.
Awesome. I practice Kyokushin Karate and I was thinking to start some judo clases to complete my skills and make something like this, and i'm surprised that it just exists. It seems very powerful and useful. (sorry my english, i'm spanish). OSU!
Hi, you have to look for this on google or another searching machine on the internet, just fill in "jujutsu mexico" or "jujutsu (your hometown)" and klick search :)
This is just like the Japanese jiujitsu I practiced as a kid. Difference is these guys do much more live resistance training with striking than we did.
My only negative comment is how often they go down while taking down their opponents. Just hope they don't have a friend near by to come kick your head in while you're busy grappling. Drop them and kick them while they're still down, them move on quickly.
I liked the video a lot, although I'm not really of fan of going to the ground (even if it is important to learn if we need to defend against that). I could also do without the gun disarmament, but oh well... Even so, all the other parts of the video are very good. From the strikes, to the throws and joint locks. Just a quick question... Why the name hokutoryu?
Jujutsu is the original form of Jiu-jitsu. As a matter of fact Americans had a difficult time pronouncing the word. So when the style was brought back to America and to different places around the world those people progressed the word into "Jiu-jitsu". Furthermore in Japanese the word is not broken up into two pieces, that was also something done by Americans, to let themselves and others pronounce it better and easier. To conclude this word "Jujutsu" has been grandfathered down threw the years and is now known as "Jiu-jitsu". By the way, dont forget this is a demonstration for the exact purpose of showing people their style and letting them see a example of techniques. Lastly I highly doubt anyone here is trying to "show off". Give them credit for making the video its nice footage.
If you thinking that witch could be better choise orginal jujutsu or jujutsu hokutoryu. I rather say hokutoryu cos' it's modern and real action. And cos' it is a finnish modification of orginal jujutsu makes it more interesting. For example Finnish martial art a called "Han Moo Doo" it's just pure kick-ass action. Take a look :D
Ju Jitsu is the international name but for some reason in some countries they call it Ju Jutsu but it's the same thing. As far as I know Hokutoryu means it's full contact as opposed to normal Ju Jitsu which is semi contact. Then there is also Jiu Jitsu which usually has no hits and kicks and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which again has more contact but no hits and kicks as far as I know unless you incorporate it to MMA.
@PuhKiller kutakuinkin kaikkien lajien alkeiskurssiharjoituksiin voi osallistua ilmaiseksi ainakin muutaman viikon verran. Edistyneempien harjoitusten seuraamisesta kannattaa kysya kyseisen seuran ohjaajilta.
I have a question. I do aikido but with the moves we are going we try to be professionals (not harm the others). It seems that jujutsu is very painful when you demonstrate. Is it true?
@oijauho Yes, I know that it is a Finnish Jujutsu style. My former kickboxing coach already had told me about your style, that was why I was looking for videos of it :) I know it means north star (or more accurately it refers to the Big Dipper constelation). Is there any meaning to this, related to Finland? Or... Is it related to "Fist of the North Star"/Kenshiro? :P
Hieman näyttää mahtavalta harrastukselta! Olisin aivan satavarmasti kans tuol, jos asuis lähellä. Ite oon Gijimon-kai Karatesta jossa on paljon jujutsua ja tosi monet liikkeet tuossa videossa on tuttuja. 5/5 ja favorite :D
@Prepared2Live You're right, this is not Japanese ju-jutsu but Hokutoryu ju-jutsu. But judging senseis and other people by a trailer of the sport is ignorant to say the least.
A Ryu is a lineage. Unless it's coming from a Japanese Ryu or developed by a Japanese before pre meiji era. I don't see why it's called a Ryu. What Japanese budo roots does it have?
If you get injured in sparring you won't able to practice for days. So that's a stupid thing to go "all out". Plus you will lose a good partner to practice with.
What this video shows is not jujutsu - it is, as JujutsuHeiho rightly states, a hybrid of karate and judo. Jujutsu can be painful during demos, but similarly to aikido, usually only when uke forgets to co-operate.
Does anyone know if they only speak finish at hokutoryu in pietarsaari? I was just wondering if they speak any swedish =) If you know could anyone give me some contact info? Because i dont know if the information ive got is te correct one...
Both are correct. Both are butcheries of a japanese term defined as fighting and overcoming an armed or unarmed opponent with no weapons or very little in the way of weapons. Real japanese jujutsu used any means available, be it punches, kick, blocks grabs , parries, deflections......anything goes. BJJ is based on judo and there is a difference
@INSANESUICIDE no I dont think it does if you are going to learn self defence then you as well learn how to put them down on the ground without cutting their throught!! Have you ever heard about ju-jutsu kai!! And with the hitting when holding I think that is mostly bad in competing accations!!
I have been teaching Jujutsu for 38 years and I must say you guys are the real deal, I love the techniques ! I'm from USA/ Indiana. And teach "Midori Kazoku Bushi Jujutsu !

Great demo. Hokutoryu forever.
This is what I like to call one of those You Must Never Hesitate kind of videos.
@muipo0 yes, striking is involved in jujutsu. Many times you must strike someone in order to soften them in order to pull something off. Take their mind off of what it is already on. Vital areas in almost every text that is written are included.......and also consider weapons being involved as well.
@muipo0 Both Judo and Jujutsu have always had kicks and punches. It's called "Atemi-Waza," meaning "striking technique."
Hokutoryu ju jutsu just gives you the tools for self defense is up to you how to use it...
Martial arts is not only about tecniques it`s also about people...
Hokutoryu ju jutsu rocks
Excellent demonstration of Jujutsu. Strong stood, so doing newaza.
Well The soke has been named to predessor for Richard Morris style and the

Man I'd just love to become a Monk and dedicate my life to something like this. It's damn difficult to master anything with all the damn busywork of modern life.
This looks to me like Kano's Judo before he made it a sport.
Good eye. You would be correct
Judo has been created from jujutsu
@Nigel Sanford wait so there's actually striking in Judo? Kano actually did some karate training in, I thought classic Japanese jujutsu always had atemi waza?
To all those guys, who write about, how this is not Jiu-Jitsu and disrespectful to the style etc. You, guys better wake up. First of all JJ was born and used for the use on a battlefield, so complaining about it being brutal is just funny.
THIS is jujutsu ! excellent !! simple and usefull techniques, hart and full contact sparring ! oh man i would like to have this style in germany!
Excellent video, and I agree with Streetefective. I note quite a bit of dissention within the comments, and it's nonsense...ramblings posted by folks with no videos of themselves doing anything showing they know anything (I take that back, there is some knot-tying), and complaints about it being "rough." I dont know why, but I cant stop thinking of the 'fist of the north star'
Is that a Kalashnikov at 2:50? Damn this is badass!
Awesome. I practice Kyokushin Karate and I was thinking to start some judo clases to complete my skills and make something like this, and i'm surprised that it just exists. It seems very powerful and useful. (sorry my english, i'm spanish).

@44excalibur Yes, you're right but in Judo it's a Kata and not practiced often. In Ju-Jitsu (aka JuJutsu) it's practiced weekly.
I am new to jujutsu and just realized there are kicks in this martial art..
Post more video, very interesting style. Hope to see more.
WOW... Fantastic!
I think it's just the spelling, it's the Hokutoryu part that seperates this particular art from other forms of Ju-Jutsu.
im gonna start train this.... i hope its goood! I have been on many martial arts so i hope its really good

This is total BS. The "correct spelling" is in Japanese.
Miyama ryu and san yama bushi ryu is jujutsu.
You don't mess with Auvo Niiniketo
If you thinking that witch could be better choise orginal jujutsu or jujutsu hokutoryu. I rather say hokutoryu cos' it's modern and real action. And cos' it is a finnish modification of orginal jujutsu makes it more interesting. For example Finnish martial art a called "Han Moo Doo" it's just pure kick-ass action. Take a look :D
This looks like Danzan Ryu, I'm down. Like what they are going for here.
Ju Jitsu is the international name but for some reason in some countries they call it Ju Jutsu but it's the same thing. But the right Japanese name is =ju jutsu=
that looks tough! No padding whilst sparring... wow
Just EXCELLENT !!!!
@PuhKiller kutakuinkin kaikkien lajien alkeiskurssiharjoituksiin voi osallistua ilmaiseksi ainakin muutaman viikon verran. Edistyneempien harjoitusten seuraamisesta kannattaa kysya kyseisen seuran ohjaajilta.
Do you know if there is some place in Kokkola to practice Ju-jutsu?
I have a question. I do aikido but with the moves we are going we try to be professionals (not harm the others). It seems that jujutsu is very painful when you demonstrate. Is it true?
@oijauho Yes, I know that it is a Finnish Jujutsu style. My former kickboxing coach already had told me about your style, that was why I was looking for videos of it :)

@muipo0 also this is a slightly modified version
This is a great montage! Very motivating :D
Hieman näyttää mahtavalta harrastukselta! Olisin aivan satavarmasti kans tuol, jos asuis lähellä. Ite oon Gijimon-kai Karatesta jossa on paljon jujutsua ja tosi monet liikkeet tuossa videossa on tuttuja. 5/5 ja favorite :D
can anyone tell me why jujutsu is not as popular as other martial arts? i don't know much about it but i'd like to learn more
do you know where is a jujutsu dojo in Mexico????
tks
dont say that untill you try it!, you`ll see is more than that
@Prepared2Live
You're right, this is not Japanese ju-jutsu but Hokutoryu ju-jutsu. But judging senseis and other people by a trailer of the sport is ignorant to say the least.
Huhhuh, melkosen voimallinen video!
A Ryu is a lineage. Unless it's coming from a Japanese Ryu or developed by a Japanese before pre meiji era. I don't see why it's called a Ryu.
What Japanese budo roots does it have?
Jujutsuheiho Late comment. Inspiration, perhaps? None of this would exist, if roots didn't exist.
it's hardcore but nothing is as hardcore as hokutoryu :D
Yes I understand that but in the western world Ju Jitsu and Ju Jutsu is the exact same thing. The same form of martial arts
This videos is amazing
@X2warriorX2 totta!! hokutoryu ju jutsu rulaa!!!
2:35 Guess what other surprises you'll find in a Finnish dojo...
The first "action" clip they played looks like aikido
For what purpose do they have an AK-47 there?
Bravo!
ju-jutsusta parempaa harrastusta en tiedäkkäään!!!!!!!
can someone please tell me what song is being used in this video?
his is Jujitsu Traditional/Jujutsu,,,in Indonesia his name (I Kyushin Ryu Jujitsu)
I thought they said "no bullshit"...
What is it that is bullshit?
If you get injured in sparring you won't able to practice for days. So that's a stupid thing to go "all out". Plus you will lose a good partner to practice with.
I love this and I love you
@velhonen there sure is!! ^^
Looks like fun
hahaa can't wait to my first training to start!
Nice!!
Nothing new but this school is mad crazy Oossssss for hardcornedness
What this video shows is not jujutsu - it is, as JujutsuHeiho rightly states, a hybrid of karate and judo.
Jujutsu can be painful during demos, but similarly to aikido, usually only when uke forgets to co-operate.
Jujitsu is nothing like Aikido, not even close.

If you know could anyone give me some contact info? Because i dont know if the information ive got is te correct one...
What's the difference between Ju Jitsu and Ju Jutsu?
Both are correct. Both are butcheries of a japanese term defined as fighting and overcoming an armed or unarmed opponent with no weapons or very little in the way of weapons. Real japanese jujutsu used any means available, be it punches, kick, blocks grabs , parries, deflections......anything goes.
BJJ is based on judo and there is a difference
