Jedd Hughes is one of our greatest, most well-rounded guitarists in music today. I could watch him play for hours.
Yep agreed he is awesome. Trying to get him back in.
Love how these guys just play only realizing how they do things when someone asks to see how they do it...awesome vibes lads..🍻...
For sure!
This is a great example of how awesome the internet can be. Brett delivering sky high quality content with fantatic guests.
If we got rid of all the vitriol and spite online and had this sort of amazing stuff, I'm sure we'd have happier people all over the world.
If you like this, sign up to Brett's membership, it is absolute absolute GOLD.
Namaste x
Thanks so much! Glad you are digging the content!
Jed is one of the best players out there for sure! Even Bukovac thinks so and that’s the ultimate compliment
Thank you mate, really appreciate it man
Agreed!
This is top class. I’ll be practicing this on my new red Strat for the next decade 😂
Awesome!
Heard Jedd with Emmy and Rodney backstage at HSB a few years back and loved his playing. Great to see him up closer on RUclips!
He has a great RUclips channel of his own as well!
I'm not much of a fan of Knopfler but every now and then I catch sight of him playing and then I'm struck by the notion that he draws the sweetest tone from his guitar that I've ever heard. His combination of touch, tone and timing is exquisite.
For sure!
Absolutely on all fronts - but not a fan of Knopfler? Why ever not, especially given all you’ve said! ;)
@@FoardenotFord On the whole I dislike many of his songs and find his politics repugnant. Also, he seems quite chilled today, but in the early days he was a nightmare to be around. Just ask his brother who was just one of many he treated like crap. The great British country picker Ray Flacke also thinks Knopfler's a great player but doesn't care much for his music.
@@henryb160 Disliking his songs is fair. I’m not sure what you mean about his politics - his lyrics indicate a soft spot for the working class, but he himself seems very private about his personal politics. His dad was a socialist and anti-Nazi, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he had some left leaning populism in him, but as far as I’ve read he’s never come out in staunch support of a political position or candidate. Maybe you know something I don’t?
Certainly plenty of people found him difficult to work with. He’s a “my way or the highway” artist, as many greats are. It is a shame to think of the falling out with David in particular, but according to recent interviews, their relationship has improved in the last few years. I think he’s mellowed a bit in his age, as you said.
All this to say that not liking the man but appreciating the talent is completely valid.
Yes! Love Jedd’s playing. Please have him on more often.
Will do Steve!
He’d might not be recognizable to many fans, but his phrasing and contributions to arrangement are are superb.
Very cool lesson that makes you wanna pause and pick up a guitar. I’m a huge fan of this percussive style and Mr Jedd really nails it. He also validates exploring the many nuances within a chord in one or two inversions.
Just AWESOME Love his playing, thanks a lot Brett
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thanks again Brett. Love seeing one of my very favourite guitar players on your channel.
You are welcome Grant! Thanks for tuning in!
Love your videos, I always learn something and really helps me !!
Thanks for checking them out.
Killer! Keep em' coming, Papa Brett!!!
Thanks Drew! Will do!
I could listen to Jedd Hughes pick that stuff all day. Such a smooth style, with lots and lots of soul. These videos are great, keep'm comin! Thanks Brett Papa. 👍
Sure thing man! Thanks so much for checking it out!
There’s no pick involved.
Awesome Brett, thank you Jedd! I always wondered about that technique! Thanks two awesome things I’ve gotten from you Jedd. This technique and holding the pick between your index and middle finger! Very cool!
Thanks for checking it out Martin!
The universe is crazy. I was thinking about Jedd and jumped online to check his channel and see what’s new…well, here he is. Great stuff.
Awesome! Thanks for tuning in!
Jedd & Tom Bukovac jamming & telling stories in Toms house is my favourite episode of homeskoolin. It is on Toms channel which is "501chorusecho" If you love guitar it will blow your mind.
Yep it is awesome
I love love love that ,,half way between Mark Knnopfler and billy gibbons thank you ..much to work on
Thanks for watching William!
Thanks Brett. Much respect...
Sure thing!
Man, thanks for featuring Jedd Hughes, Brett. He has such a great touch...very individual. I think a lot of his style comes from him being a writer himself. Such a song awareness and really uses the whole guitar and really brings out the best of what it can do. He's the kind of guy that sits down in a session and makes everybody else sound better. That, to me, is always the goal. Well done! You guys have a natural rapport, which makes it a great hang. Really great.
Thanks Deane, you are too kind mate!
For sure! Amazing all around player!
@@JeddHughesOfficial Very inspiring playing. Thanks again...!
@@BrettPapa Yes sir. Old school killer player. Taste all day long.
I hear this slow style especially on the song 'Wanderlust' from Sailing to Philadelphia. Super awesome! On the acoustic it sounds delicious!!!
Two great albums!
Very percussive and snappy style! It draws you in immediately and makes you feel good! Jedd’s a very cool player! Thanks Brett!👍🎸✌️😎
Thanks so much mate!
You are welcome!
Great player and teacher!
Jedd is awesome!
That is some serious tone and even more serious chops!!!!
Thanks mate!
Glad you liked it!
Nice Collings 470 JL !!
Very cool. Something to work on here man this guy has it DOWN!
Yep for sure!
This is so interesting because I also see where I can hear similar things in some of the influences I grew up with like ZZ Top and some of the later more bluesy 38 Special that Danny Chauncey played on. I think it's a little different and maybe not as muted but it's a similar triplet feel with a sense of movement to it even when you're playing just one chord. It's a fantastic thing to work on!
Thanks for watching Kyle!
Very reminiscent of Song for Sonny Liston. I love that kind of playing.
Thanks for checking it out!
That style reminds me of the chickens on the farm the way they cluck, strut, scratch the ground for bugs, spread their wings and throw their chest out. It also sounds like a horse hitched up to a race cart called a sulky, the rhythm sound the hoofs make when the horse trots. Mark Knopfler recorded on Sonny Landreth’s Blue Tarp Blues song on the album From The Reach. Clapton, Vince Gill, Eric Johnson, others played on the album. Congo Square song written by Sonny, Dave Ranson, and Mel Melton is amazing true life facts. It is a place established in 1817 for slaves to play music, worship, trade, buy, and sell goods with each other in New Orleans. A lot of artist covered the song, check out Sonny Landreth and Derek Trucks playing Congo Square in New York on RUclips. It is one of many many tourist attractions in New Orleans. Love the video Brett and Jedd. 👍🙏😎✌️
Awesome stuff
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!
Woohoooooo! I'm always happy to see Jedd on the show!
Me too lol! He will be back soon!
EXCELLENT.
Glad you liked it!
Go Jedd Go!
Wooohooooo!

Glad you like it! Thanks For watching!
Intro was sick. And holy moly, that Collings sure is pretty.
For sure!
Great Interview,,,,trying that thumb roll.....its freaking cool....lol...thanks for the great content Brett!!!
You are welcome!
Always a good time 🤙🤙
Thanks for checking it out!
What sorcery is that guitar! Holy smokes! Cool unit. Vicious playing too.
It is a great guitar!
Nice to hear someone playing the collings JL like they mean it!
For sure!
It's almost like he's just figuring out how he does it while he explains it. Cool sound!
It is an awesome sound. Most of these guys just are able to play effortlessly without thinking about it much lol!
@@BrettPapa I know what I'm going to be working on for the next couple of days!
Nailed it! I wouldn’t think about it unless someone asked me too! haha Hope it makes some kind of sense!
@@JeddHughesOfficial You broke it down well, now I just need to get it under my fingers!
Side note, I'm a Jud so I often get called Jedd. It's a good name for a Nashville picker!
@@JeddHughesOfficial Great to see you on Brett's channel again man! I'm glad you broke this down. I'll be working on this all weekend long. Cheers Jedd
Jeff and Brett, thank you form this excellent lesson! There is a video of MK on French TV. He played there a piece blues in A with exactly this technique and sort of “explains” (not really haha) how his fingerstyle playing is done. I would indeed kill for a lesson from MK! Haha.
Yeah that would be great to get a lesson from him. Such a great player!
nice deluxe reverb , they sound so good
They sure do! I am new to that world but they are quickly growing on me!
sweet!
Thanks!
Bring Jedd Hughes back when you can! Great interview.
He is coming back soon!
In case anybody is wondering, the song with the riff closest to the one at the beginning is his song High Lonesome.
Another GREAT video!
Your recommendations concerning playing & gear are always good, so I figure the Herban Market must be good.
Went to their website and Brett is in one of the photos!
It's clear that you stand behind your work!!!
Lol someone showed me that the other day too! Thanks so much for watching!
Holy amazing guitar picking batman! Mahalo!
Lol! Jedd is the man!
Man, sound so killer!!!
Jedd is the man! Thanks for watching!
@@BrettPapa Definitely!!
Man, that's a good lesson. Watching for the ??? time!
Haha! Glad you liked it!
Alright it's Jedd!!!!!!!!! Without the shed
That is so funny... Allison Moorer's Alabama song was one of my influential albums. Greenberg just friggin nails it.
These videos are the peak of YT guitar lessons.
Thanks! So glad you enjoy them!
Jedd is such a six string assassin .World Turning by Lindsey blew me away 1st time I heard it.You are right he did play like this sometime
Yes he is! Hopefully we can get him back in here soon!
@@BrettPapa your show is the best Brett the qualitybof guests show how well you are respected in the community and deservidly so!
Music Music I hear Music , Music over my Head !
Amazing! Quick question Brett. Is your rhythm course stil going ahead? And, if so, when do you think it will be released. Love what you do! Thanks man!
Yes! Kenny Greenberg who is in the final section just needs to get back from being on tour with Kenny Chesney so that we can finish it up. I would imagine it will be out in 6-8 weeks.
@@BrettPapa Great news! Really looking forward to that one. Thanks again.
yea! check out Sonny Landreth and Eric Clapton--Promise Land...Amazing!!!
Brett - love a Jedd course around melody and his general tricks - how about it?😊
Yep I am trying to put that together.
Good Lord that tone is money
Thanks for watching!
amazing video! what amp is that amazing collings I believe blowin thru?? and serious questions DO YOU PAY YOUR GUESTS TO BE ON YOUR SHOW??? You get the best guys!!!
Deluxe Reverb. No I don't pay them they are all my friends. Unless they do a course then of course I pay them lol!
@@BrettPapa vintage dr? and thanks for the honesty
Has a bit of BFG/David Grissom in it too.
Yep for sure.
Sonny Landreth is monster… and Congo Square is apex predator level.
I have no idea how i do it. I just do it! 😊yeah !
Lol!
So important to play with rhythm all the time. Top class player on a top class channel 👍❤️👏
For sure! Jedd's rhythm is amazing! Thanks for checking out the channel!
格好よい!
Totally awesome! What is that guitar Jedd plays? Thx man
It is a Collings Julian Lange? model I believe.
This has got a cool sound to it! I like the muting, the rythm and the double stops.
But what I really want is some o' those tacos you were talking 'bout! Yum! Now I'm hangry! Wish I could get me some!
Lol! That place is great. All the food there is fantastic lol!
Epic Tacos always inspire and summon the muse! Bretts got the low down on that joint!
Have you seen The Magnet device for filming picking techniques from Cracking the Code? Would love to see that angle on this MK right hand stuff.
Is there anyone who dislikes Mark Knopfler? I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone slag him.
Yeah his vids are great! That angle is super cool!
This cat is a Monster!
For sure!
Thank You both what kind of rhythm maker does Jedd Hughes have?
Amp is a Deluxe Reverb and the guitar is a Collings.
Thought I heard an Aussie accent. Good on ya bloke.
Haha
Dang I love you Nashville Cats!
Cheers mate!
Yep they are all amazing!
@@BrettPapa Heh! Yep
@@JeddHughesOfficial Cheers! Keep the good stuff coming!
Just a short 32 hour drive to see what's shaking Monday night at the Underdog! Cheers Brett and Jedd!!
You should come for sure!!!
We have people come from out of the country all the time.
I'll be East bound and down this Fall@@BrettPapa !
Jedd Hughes is an incredible guitar slinger! That is all.
...and songwriter...and singer.....and....
@@Grant_Ferstat Yeah pretty much everything.
Agreed!!
pretty much!!
When will his guitar course debut? It's high time.
I know! I need to do one with him. Jedd is so amazing!
Brett, you need to get Jedd to do a course on this.
In the works I think just trying to figure out what.
@@BrettPapa Modern fingerstyle, maybe.
Love your JL 470!
Great guitar!
Jedd's signal chain please, he has god tier tone.
Guitar, Nobles, Deluxe Reverb.
@@BrettPapa Thanks a lot
it’s like seeing PFT without sunglasses…
Does that Collings play as sweet as it looks?
Yes!
I saw a Julian lage Collings signature and clicked immediately
Lol! It is a great guitar!
About 8 minutes in it sounded like "Man On The Silver Mountain".
Dude.. Brett! LISTEN TO CONGO SQUARE!
Will do!
@@BrettPapa Here's Sonny with Derek Trucks and Eric C.
doing it...

What guitar is Jedd playing
Collings 470 JL
Ya mon! Love this thing. Its my favourite all rounder
Could you please cover a song I’ve asked everyone to cover it but they like if I want to cover I might it’s 7 days over you by poison with Ritchie kotzen he’s an awesome guitarist I’m missing a few things I think I’m just asking been a on looker for as long as I can remember thanks buddy
Haha I hear ya man. Is there not video of him playing it anywhere? Any old live clips? Thanks for checking out the vids!
@@BrettPapa maybe one but it’s blurry as hell would you try it
He makes that look WAY too easy. Greg Koch touches on this style of playing. (Would love to see you interview Drade, Brett!!) Jedd is such a class act!!
Yep Jedd is awesome at so many different things! Really an amazing talent.
Flying purple people eater
I dont think Mark has put out anything worth a crap in like 40 years, but what he did put out before that was life changing imo
chicken pickin
Pretty much
It sounds cool , but really what he is doing is playing Open G licks in standard tuning .
poultry is just another name for chicken pickin....knopler musta been hanging with the appalachia mountain pickers..
Lol!
I love your content and I am also a student. But I am just letting you know I gave up watching this video due to the ads. I tried skipping the ads in the beginning, but it was impossible to fight the algorithm. I am sick of so many ads in all areas of our lives today. I ended watching your Hendrix Unleashed course. Much better than trying to skip ads. RUclips ads sucks.
I hear ya. For like $5 a month RUclips has a feature where you never have to see adds again.
@@BrettPapa Thanks for that. I’d rather read a book or play guitar.
Jedd is way cool.. I sense he’s getting frustrated trying to dumb it down for Brett…😩 but Brett’s only trying to help his audience..
Haha nah he is all good with it. Happens a lot when playing come naturally for these guys they really don't have to think about it much they just play.
@@BrettPapa .. IKR..?! … just an observation..👍🏼
