Super pumped to have been part of this mini project. Sometime late last year I got a chance to film a quick little three song record recorded at Kenny Greenberg's home studio. I got a call the night before asking me if I was available to come in and film after the original film crew backed out. So I grabbed a friend and brought in 4 cameras headed over to Kenny's house.
The band is Kenny Greenberg (top Nashville session guitarist, producer, and touring guitarist for Kenny Chesney), Guthrie Trapp (John Oats touring guitarist, session guitarist, and world class guitar instructor for Artist Works), Pete Abbott (session drummer), and Ryan Medora (Robben Ford Bassist, touring musician, and bass instructor).
Filming this was something I have wanted to do for years and something I plan on doing a ton of in the future. Let me know what you think in the comment section below!

how can this not have a million views? this is amazing Brett! Great video work on capturing that session. wow
Haha thanks man! Feel free to share it haha! Still got to get you over here for that beer!
Because it doesn't sound good on an iPhone and there's no rap lyrics.
Sick guitar playing
@@barrywitt1661 sure it does! Try using AirPods. Makes a huge difference.
Love it every time they go outside and do a diminished run then come back. It's like when you were a kid on the swing set and went just a little too high, then came down and went "Holy sh-t!"
Haha!
Exactly. Again, so reminiscent of Robben Ford.
Definitely keep the band videos coming. This was awesome.
Will do!
I thank Music God that bless us with Guthrie Trapp! Unbelievable talent, full of respect for other musicians, have u seen it? He set everyone comfortable, he listen to Kenny but plays his own thing with such a style! Super pro ears! infinite flow and you want more, the phrase accents, how he cuts the beat. Real Deal!
Yeah, Guthrie is one of the best improvisers ever and definitely one of the best in town which is saying a lot!
Keep the band videos coming! So inspiring to watch and learn from these monsters. God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍
Will do! Thanks for watching!
Holy hell. That was so good. Keep up these kinds of videos coming. Gears sounds. Great songs and just really great.
They leave so much space for each other to play and that includes the drummer and the Bass player. It’s the art of playing to the tune.
Wow! That was fun to watch and listen to! Awesome dynamic, tones and interactive improvisation. What great players! That's why I love live music. It lifted me up to start my day.
BTW: Its spelled Madora and she's really amazing with Robben Ford and I highly recommend that "Interludes" album too
Thanks.
Phenomenal musicianship and recording. Guthrie Trapp is a jewel.
For sure! Round 2 coming soon!
Awesome guitar playing!! I'm also totally blown away by the bass and drums!!! You don't hear that kind of precision timing excellence every day!! I believe timing is the most important and hardest part of playing good sounding music. YES!!! More of these would be great!!
Yeah they are an incredible rhythm section. That is Guthrie's usual drummer and he is always awesome. Was my first time hearing Ryan and she was great too!
Holy crap! That was amazing. Sound quality was spot on. I dont know who mixed this for live video. But they were very much a part of the band member. So to everyone involved thank you so much
Awesome! Glad you liked it! The guy who mixed it is amazing. He is a hometown favorite! His name is Mills Logan.
I would buy this in a heartbeat! It should be on iTunes and Spotify!
It is just the start of an album. They are filming the next half in September I believe.
Where do I send money
More band stuff! This is FIRE!🔥
More coming soon!
Two complete heavy weights in the world of guitar side by side. Just doesn't get better than this if you appreciate fine guitar work at the highest level. Kenny was recently in Northern California doing some studio work close by me in Sausalito. These two are legends that the masses will never understand, or even know of for that matter. Reserved for the lucky ones who have musical intelligence.Just assume keep it that way. If one doesn't get it, no point in wasting time trying to explain.
Yep they both are world class for sure!
@@BrettPapa add Mark Lettieri to this list as well.
So very true how unfortunate for the people who think they know good music this shit is just next level
❤NASHVILLE fucking Tennessee is the new mecca for all things rock, blues, country, soul, Americana, Jazz, bluegrass, etc...... Nashville has always been Music 🎵 City & extremely important, but something happened recently that put Nashville above everywhere else. ❤ Growing up here it seemed Nashville was 3rd place after L.A. & NYC, but no longer. Nashville is in first place for recording, musicianship, & the place to make it musically. We got everyone including Vince Gill, Tom Bukovac, and most importantly GUTHRIE TRAPP. Thank you Brett Papa for your work and killer video. 😅
Yep I agree it is the place for sure. Nothing like it anywhere.
@@BrettPapa I forgot to mention we got you too sir. You are also a badass guitar 🎸 player and proud to have you here.
Oh my Jesus. I have to learn that lick Guthrie does at 4:29. Love that. Big fan of his. I’ve heard that lick in some of his other playing.
Haha!
All seriousness I know dividing up the bounty might be a problem, but add a PayPal or some such tip jar. This is too good not to appreciate with a donation.
Yeah I am getting all that together for next shows. Thanks for the offer to support!
@@BrettPapa My son in law is in the business in Atlanta. I believe you are on the right track. He tried to open for an in person show, it went poorly he gave all tips to the band and went home with no pay. Human's can't live without art. This is probably the way forward.
hey Brett give me one of those oxboxes? Surely you don't need both of them. Nice Video. What a jam! The drummer has an awesome touch. The bassist played with Corey recently, She is awesome.
Haha, one for me and one for my guests! She is great! Pete is an awesome drummer for sure.
Wow. Just frickin wow. A masterclass in--where do i start?! Tone. Dynamics. Touch. Taste. Listening. Insanely deep but restrained use of pedals. Volume. Space. Guitar vocabulary and deep knowledge of what guitars are capable of. Pocket and groove. And how to use your considerable chops to serve the song even with no singer. Killer rhythm section too. Thnx brett. Made my evening.
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
My sentiments exactly!
Sooooo good! Nashville is a treasure in the music world today. Virtuoso Musicians who put music first! Thank you Brett! 🙏
For sure! More coming soon!
Cool. Guthrie doesn't overplay, and doesn't waste notes. I can dig it. He is one of those guys that isn't a 'lick player', but a pure improvisor.
Nope he is all melody even when he is cookin! Very respectful to who he is playing with too. Class act!
Wow! I'm glad it took a while to get this released. If it had been released last year, then I don't feel like I would have appreciated it as much as I did. With covid diminishing the live music schedules, I really paused to enjoy this even more than usual. It kinda "scratched the itch" so to speak.
Awesome!
ladies and gentleman if you dddddont know Goutrie trapp.after watching this video you will never forgert him.
Yep he is pretty freakin awesome!
So amazing to witness such great players having musical conversations. The feel, the expression. The pocket and the discourse between parts.
So tasty, just wow.
Thanks Brett for some more great content
Sure thing!
All of you dudes rock. 💯
Funny how life plays out I met Thurston when I was 19 at the time I had no desire to play guitar, I just wanted to sing… now I absolutely love playing guitar & can only practice hard & pray I make it into the next generation of session players.
A decade goes by fast that’s for sure… that day Thurston inspired me without me even noticing but since then I now follow & am inspired by all you guys!
Great dudes with great content… Thanks for everything I learn a ton from y’all. 🙏🏻🇺🇸🤘🏻
Thanks for checking it out man!
Great video, Brett! Thanks for that. Wonderful to see a brilliant band at work and creating some very beautiful music. Can I be so bold as to make a constructive suggestion for more videos which we would all like? Most of us who watch your channel are musicians and it would be great to spend a little longer on the close-ups of the playing - including all four of the musicians! - and not so much of the popular quick shots and move-on style of filming. Also, it would be nice to see some of the bass runs close up, and maybe the drummers would like to see more of the percussive technique. Hats off to four exceptional artists!
For sure. I didn't edit this video. I had to have other people edit the video do to time constraints. We had limited equipment and time so it really was just a grip it and rip it filming. Next session things will definitely be planned out more. Thanks for watching!
Just great Brett buddy! that's my friend Ryan Madora on bass Ryan is brilliant!
She is awesome! Thanks for tuning in!
Excellent!
my god! thank you Brett for this video
Sure thing! Round 2 coming soon!
There’s a lot of “famous” musicians that should go to their class and get schooled.these musicians are true pro’s
For sure!
Really enjoyed this. I am always jealous of someone that can make an ES sound the way it should. Amazing tones all around. Love it. All of them are killers.
Thanks for checking it out! Glad you liked the vid!
it must be fun and rewarding to live in the city were all the bedst musicans in the world lives !
It's pretty amazing!
My God I can’t remember the last time I’ve been that into a video on here. Talk about a 19 minute eargasm lol. Thanks fellas well done.
Haha! Thanks!
Amazing! I’m ready to buy the album. Thank you for posting.
Haha, that will be coming in the next few months I would imagine.
I want this album 🤩..the best I've heard in a long time!
Round two is coming in September and then it will be released.
Who in the world gave THIS a 👎???? What's the world coming to?!?!
Haha! It happens!
My thoughts exactly! Probably a hip hop or rapper. This is awesome tasties!!
One of the best jams I’ve seen. Bravo👏
Thanks!
Wow I really enjoyed that. The musicality is just amazing. They went from rocking vibe to something really beautiful and mellow. These Nashville cats are somethings else.
For sure! More coming soon!
Wow - badass to beautiful.... What a great group of players. Thanks!
Sure thing!
Man oh man that session was a beautiful thing six strings tuggin on my heart strings so inspirational
And really great job on the sound n filming master Papa, luv ya work. These guys play my type of sounds
Each note is very distinctive, perfectly timed with the bending and sweeping stacking harmonic etc etc etc technique to fricken die for Such a pleasure, thank you...
Yeah everyone was great. I just filmed the session this time. There were real pros doing everything else lol!
Just beautiful interaction between guitars- and the bass and drum are just too tight behind them. . I love this! Thanks
Obviously, some great playing going on here, but Guthrie's guitar was muted way down. Too bad.
Ok well i guess im getting a tremelo on the board now, thanks Guthrie Trapp 🙄🤤They should Spotify the sh$+ outta this, too good!
Totally dig this! But I'm a 39 year old guitar player so of course I would :)
Haha!
I love the fact that Guthrie plays with mostly clean tones. It's so refreshing in an era when everyone is using so (too) much distortion.
Yep he always has great tones. Barely uses anything. Just bone tone!
Great point
I thought the same thing
That tele sounds beautiful clean
Oh and that tremolo Guthrie is using must be a harmonic trem that was on some fender amps.. it’s glorious
Absolutely Amazing!!! Video and Audio in high quality and musicians .... "crème de la crème" !!!
Thanks for checking it out! Glad you like the vid! All great people as well.
Oh, how much I like this and how much I missed it! Real music, real songs, great musicians around Guthrie! More of that stuff, please. Thx a lot, Brett!
You are welcome! More coming soon!
This is just a treat to listen to. The feel between these great players is beautiful. A complete tutorial on band dynamics and feel. Very inspiring and very well done. That’s talent !
Yep they are all so good! Thanks for checking it out!
Those licks from 6 min to 7 min were crazy. Thanks for this. Must be nice to be able to improvise like that
For sure. To be honest they were all kinda chillin and playing for the song.
Wow, the musicianship and audio quality on this recording is awesome. Nice filming too, Brett.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
AWESOME content Brett...keep this stuff coming please!
For sure! More coming soon!
Tight! Thanks for uploading.
Sure thing!
If Kenny keeps working, he’s going to have a future in music 😜
Haha, I don't think there is anything left he hasn't been successful at at this point lol!
This is the content I’m on you tube for! How awesome! Thanks for posting this for us to see!
Sure thing! More coming soon!
Wow! This is awesome. Thanks to all involved! Great playing!
You are welcome!
Wow man, absolute higher-level BAND quality. I feel the guitar in this way! I love it, yeah
More coming soon!
Shit....it was all about the 🧢. Yankees her I come. Blista-Ssssss!
Who's the girl on bass? Solid as a rock, right in the damn pocket.
Growing up as a guitar in player in Nashville, now I remember why I never feel like I'm any good regardless of how good I get! Ha -- so incredible
Pretty much lol! Round 2 coming soon!
Ryan Madora is the bassist. You couldn't be bothered to Google 'Ryan female bassist Nashville" before doing your intro?
Settle down man I've since made a full bass course with her and use her for all of my bass on tracks for my courses haha. She is awesome and we work together frequently. That video was years ago.
Video was great and the tone was sickness, thanks for the jam.
Kenny's bandsawing was rocking, came out of the blue 💙(pick slide).
Sweet! Glad you liked it!
Whew! I just witnessed the best of the best! I include you in that as well Mr. Papa! Thanks for all your help gentlemen! SO GOOD!!!!!!!!
Haha! I don't know about that but these guys are all truly amazing!
thanks Papa. great music! to bad ads get in the middle of the songs
I know RUclips has been ad crazy lately!
The interplay and dynamics was beyond great! Waiting on an album fellers....
Hopefully they finish this. They have talked about it many times.
so happy to hear MUSIC...there is so many shit out there...but these guys-girl 😍 they should make records for themselves not just for other artists , could listen to this all day✌
Yeah they all play great together. Thanks for watching!
This is why so many want to play an instrument. In hopes of one day just jamming with some friends. Love seeing folks in their element just playing to play and making it up as they go. Everybody enjoying the moment, doesn't get any better. Like seeing the Bass taking off on the second song just doing some runs which fit right in. Niiiiiicccceeee all around.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Here is why they sound fantastic. Really listen to what each guy gets for frequency territory. Everybody has a frequency that picks up where someone else left off. Not a lot of overlapping frequencies. Everybody has there own sonic space. It takes a lot of discipline because that higher end frequency range is not enjoyable to dial in as a solo type jam. But these pros know that in the context of the mix they will sound huge. No overlapping (guitar frequencies) = No Mud. Crisp mix. Pro sound.
Yep they definitely have a handle on what they are doing. Thanks for watching!
Nice video. I MUST HAVE MISSED THE “female” bass player’s name…good job young lady
Thanks Jay! Its Ryan Madora and she is amazing! She plays bass on all of my stuff now.
Thanks for sharing the complete video! That one song drop yesterday only made me want the album!
Haha! No problem. More coming soon!
More!! Just give us more
I know! I am going to try and make that happen.
So good! Interesting that there appears to be no overhead mic? And the mighty 58 on the rack tom! Guess that's a lesson in 'do whatever works' -- thanks for sharing!
For sure.
Nashville? These guys are some great jazz & funk players the like of Larry Carlton & lee Rietnour, just to categorize them.
Yes it’s close to Nashville. Thanks for checking it out!
It's inspiring seeing these 4 great musicians just playing, interacting with one another, and making wonderful music. Are these songs available anywhere? Are there more?!?
For sure! Yes there will be more soon. We are doing another round in September to finish out an album.
@@BrettPapa I'll buy the album right now. Where do I sign?
@@BrettPapa Hi Brett, is this cd available now ? Thanks
Yes Oh yes. Hell yes. Fuck yes. Yes yes yes. Please and thank you. If I could express that freely on my guitar I'd never put it down. The ole lady would be like can you at least put this down for the 3 minutes it usually takes? I'd be like hell no I've got something to say
Haha
Wow wow Kenny scratch guitar and the back and forth first jam unbelievable. I really must get out of position 1 pent now. Papa you are the best your whole idea and efforts are world class
Thanks man! Glad you like the vids! More coming soon!
Some Telecasters have a warm, round sound, some are sparkly and articulate. I'm in the sparkly camp. I could listen to that all day. Love that tone.
Yeah doesn't hurt to have Guthrie's hands either haha!
Been watching Kenny with Ashley Cleveland and Michael Rhodes way back when. Amazing
Yep Kenny is the man!
Like how you have minimal separation and play all together, are these songs, jams or basics for melodies / songs?
They just came up with some jams and pressed record
Magic happening here! Great job all round🤩👋👋👋
Thanks for checking it out Simon!
Wow! That was great!
Somebody scoop me up off the floor! I just melted into a peddle off goo!😌👋
Haha! Thanks for watching!
Guthrie is playing his Floyd Cassista telecaster.
Thanks - wondered what it was :-)
Brett Papa I'm delighted. thank.
Sure thing!
Great sound, great sensitivity, great playing. I want to buy the CD when it is finished!
Round two in September and then I'm sure there will be something.
Wow!!!! They were all awesome, but that last song was killer!
Yes sir!
Title: Backwater ...aptly named, you can feel the swamp mushing around your feet.
Trapp's tele tone on the second piece is beautiful. What amp and pedals please? What is the gold guitar with the lipstick pickups?
Not sure but he usually uses a Deluxe Reverb or a Kendrick amp these days. He has a very modest pedalboard as well. I am sure he shows you on his channel.
I came for your epic stash, but stayed for the killer GT and KG Jam!
Lol! Part 2 coming soon!
I’ve seen Kenny playing with Billy Gibbons and Orianthi.
Kenny plays with everyone lol! He is the man!
more bank videos please THANK YOU
Sure thing!
I just tried to recruit a cellist and metal guitarist from the local lube place a few minutes ago. Man I miss live! Thanks for this Brett, these guys are it!!
Awesome! You are welcome!
Hey Man, awesome video. Im gonna use your tips
Sweet! Glad you liked it!
@@BrettPapa if you're ever looking to trade gear let me know. I build custom guitars theoutpostguitars.com
Not a country fan so wasn't sure what to expect, but that first song was killer! Alas, still not a country fan.
Haha!
Groovt wie die Sau!! (German for "groovin ´like hell") ;-)
Lol! For sure!
Thank you for arranging and posting....crazy good video.
Sure thing! Hopefully more coming soon!
Great players making beautiful music 🎼 ❤
Thanks for checking it out!
Inspirational. This is being in touch with each other. Good job
Thanks for tuning in!
Well that was a fantastic breakfast! Whatcha got cookin for lunch and dinner Brett!?!
Haha! Working on that!
Once I hear GT play one note, I am unable to not hear the whole clip. I had a time sensitive call to make, but it going to have to wait.
Haha!
i just need to day Brett that i think next time, get everyone's name. you didnt get Ryan's last name and in my view some folks might think that women or bassists are not that important to you. im just sayin
I got her back. I have a course coming out with her and I hire her all the time to do session work for me. I made up for forgetting her last name once lol!
should researched her last name...
You seriously couldn't remember the bass players' name??
I met her for about 30 seconds that day haha! I think I've made up for it though I use her for all of my session work and have a bass course coming out with her in the next month.
That Danelectro sounds bad ass!
F'n killer ! Is that the same bassist I saw with Robben in Oakland CA earlier this year?
Yes most likely. She does play with him quite a bit.
I like to see the guitar players talking about guitar playing and teaching
They both have lots of vids on my channel where they are teaching
