Anyone else just play this intro over and over again like I do? So much emotion, I'm striving to put that emotion in my improvising. Thanks GT, if nothing else for at least giving me a goal to strive for
Thanks for checking it out!
Dude 4 years later I'm still doing it. Some magic was captured during this session.
Still doin it, and everytime I listen to his explanation it gets more and more confusing 😕
Intro key is Emaj ? i hopme copy to intro ah..I want to tab..I am really newbie Emaj-C#m-B-Emaj ?
Thought it was Marty First! :D
Haha! Same kind of hat and guitar!
Hah,me too:)
I thought the same thing bro
Me too! Haha
ahaha me too.. you should defitively call him to make a trio for guitar teaching. 1 Billion views guaranteed ;)
So glad to see this man. You and Guthrie are great together
Had a blast! Great dude and a mind blowing guitar player!
Active Melody I agree ... no low cut shaven chests make it a pleasure. Only the hardcore fans will know what I’m talking about 😎
You know this is good when Active Melody is watching. Thx for having Guthrie on your channel. I’ll play & rewind many times
papastache102 When is the next Guthrie installment coming? I think he does his best explain in this video that I've ever seen him do.
Hey Brian, I'd like to see you and Guthrie put something together on RUclips. Make it happen.
Apparently having the name „Guthrie“ improves your chance to being a great guitar player by about 500%.
Haha! No kidding!
Yes...from now on my name is Guthrie Guthrie Perez...Hope it works ( no offense...Mr Trapp )
@@soulrelaxlife720 ill be G. Guthrie Gutherson
You can always tell the sound of a vintage ES335. It has a ‘woody’ sound that the new ones don’t.
@@robm9460 i got a 'woody' hearing it
Haha it cracks me up when Papa laughs because it's exactly how we would be if we were there playing with Guthrie! LOL
Yep, cant do nothin' but chuckle at those ferocious licks!
Man, this shit is blowing my mind right now. I've been looking at it for two nights, and I'm on the verge of a huge breakthrough.
Nice! Thanks for checking it out!
Keep telling her that.
Nice keep jamming!
I'll be watching this over and over. Guthrie is such a hero.
Yes he is!
I agree to
Back in 2001 I saw Guthrie with singer Nick something (when they were Filthy Rich) do a set at this hole in the wall in Fairhope AL (Mama Ruex's) and his playing blew my friggin mind, and I remember wondering how one gets to play that good. I had only been playing a few years at that point. And now 17+ years later he's on the internet teaching us his magic. Awesome. So glad I stumbled upon this.
Learn:
1. Chord positions (CAGED)
2. Arpeggios for each position
3. Scales for each position
...so far so good 👌
Ben 4. Phrases, melodies and licks in each position
For sure!
Can we play the major scale of each chord of the same scale ? For example in a G major song with G C Am as chord : can we play the C major scale when the song is playing a C chord and A minor scale when playing over the Am ?
This session has some beautiful sounding improvisation, great tone, and a lot of valuable knowledge. Thanks for posting this.
Sure thing!
This guy has good teaching skills, so chill.
Guthrie is awesome!
When I see virtuous guitarists on the internet they cause me frustration and depression. But with you guys it's totally different, I prefer this Gutrie over any other. Thanks Brett for your channel
Sure thing! Thanks for checking it out!
It's so good to look into the mind of great players. I'm going to need to watch this video multiple times to absorb the information. Thx Brett.
I literally addicted this melody. Definitely mind melting solo Mr. Trapp
YES! Been looking forward to this. Guthrie Trapp is just so melodic. Pure 🔥🔥🔥 keep it up Brett and thank You!
No problem! Thanks for checking it out!
Absolutely, Music is a combination of mathematical sequences and frequencies that a specific combination sparks our brains individually...its euphoric mind blowing
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! Pure Gold! Only a few minutes in, and I've already stopped and rewound the video multiple times to try to absorb all the gems being shared here. Thanks to you both for sharing this!!!
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
Thanks Brett and Guthrie! Thanks alot!
I will for the rest of my life refer to this video

This lesson came right on time. You’ve been hitting right in the wheelhouse of what I’m trying to work on lately and the way you and Guthrie broke this down opened the flood gates of tonal tasty goodness! Definitely looking forward to more lessons with both you guys. Thanks a ton Brett!
Awesome! Glad you liked it! More to come soon!

There’s gold in here. Going to have to study this video a bit. Thanks fellas
Thanks for checking it out!
By the way these videos are absolutely gold, some of my favorite on RUclips. Ford and Guthrie are beasts and I'm so thankful to be able to learn their mindset and steal their licks!
Glad you like them!
I’d love to spend a week with that dude! You’d learn sooo much
I did spend a week with him and it's crazy how much he knows on guitar!!!!!
This is great stuff. I hope to travel to Nashville this year. So many amazing musicians. Thanks for introducing me to Guthrie and Ford. I'm following their stuff now and loving it. Love your channel too Papa. I've learned so much from these videos on how to target notes over chords. Making big progress
Awesome! More from the both of them soon. We just wrapped up shooting Ford’s first product and it’s going to be great!
Can't get enough of the beginning riff, so good
Thank you! I am truly amazed!
Glad you liked it!
Just working with Triads now and this was a great lesson! I knew there was music in them. Now I have a map! Thanks for the great lesson/video!
Sweet! Thanks for checking it out!
Great lesson!!!
Thanks for checking it out!
This lesson is killer. I think talking and playing during a lesson is just fine! This is what finally got the whole CAGED/modes thinking straight in my head.
Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome! One of the best lesson!
Thanks for checking it out!
Another winner. Getting a lot from Guthrie, like the Ford Thurston video. Love these guys.
Thanks, Brett.
Thanks! Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
I love this. Trying to steal as much as I can from this video!!! The phrasing is shall I say gorgeous.
Steal away, that’s what it’s for! Thanks for watching!
What a great lesson, from a really nice guy (Guthrie), who, like Brett, has the ability to actually explain and show what he is doing so that those of us who pick things up very slowly, can actually understand.
Brett many, many thanks for this (and your other videos, too). Probably one of the most enjoyable guitar videos I have ever seen, and I am delighted to hear that you and Guthrie will be doing another couple of videos.
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you like the lessons! Thanks for checking them out!
Apsolutly beautiful ! Thank you !
Thanks for checking to out! More coming soon!
I just have to say, that intro was great. I've never heard of Guthrie Trapp before, but I love papastache and you guys sound great !

Sure thing! Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks Papastache and Guthrie, this video is is very helpfull for me to get the idea solo guitar. Bravo
Sure thing! More videos coming soon!
Wow! This is awesome. Brett, I love the way you present these amazing guitar players. Normally I would listen to the likes of Guthrie Trapp and just give up on trying to play the guitar. But this just made me pick up my guitar 'cause there is so much I can learn from this. In fact I'm taking the morning off work 'cause I just cannot put the guitar down until my fingers are too sore. I can't thank you enough, gentlemen.
Awesome man! Glad you liked it! Thanks for tuning in!
This is a fantastic vid. Thanks guys!!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
This clip is just too funny. He's almost knocking Papastache out of his chair with his playing. Hard get more sweet and melodic than that and he makes it look super simple too ;) Great stuff!
Thanks for watching! More to come soon!
This man is effing gifted! Obviously, but such creative & natural phrasing & voice leading. It's easy to fall down the Guthrie Trapp rabbit hole
For sure.
"I play in the Mixolydian Mode, because that's what people tell me I'm playing." 😂 That was awesome.
Lol!
Wow this sounds beautiful, love to see more 👍
More coming soon!
Great, but not too soon; this will keep us busy for a while, and presumably you will follow it up with a related lesson, like you did with Ford's video. (Please?)
Great show! Very informative!
Thanks for checking it out!
This is killer!!!!!!!!!! So much info. Guthrie is a great teacher and Papa stache always asks the right questions.
Awesome! Glad you liked it! Guthrie is amazing! Getting together with him again soon!
Very helpful video! Much appreciated!
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Muito bom!! Obrigado pela aula!!
This is pure gold. Cheers guys, u r awesome. Thanks. C u in Nashville
Sweet! Looking forward to it!
Good stuff!
Thanks for watching!
Great lesson! Thank you! 😊
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
7:33 - Can be treated as a backdoor dominant, a iv min6 or a ii m7b5 (D7, Am6 or F#m7b5). A melodic minor sounds great over that chord, and of course the F#m7b5 arpeggio sounds killer over the Am as well.
Majestic sounding stuff, absolutely awesome! Waaaaaaaaay outta my skill level
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
...great seeing and hearing G Trapp.....such a tasteful player....thx P Stasche
You are welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
WOW! Great lesson... thank you for this.

Me too!
Me too!
Great lesson, already watched it entirely twice! Killer player, awesome tips, love the way he plays sixth all the time, it's so melodic hope you could make a video with him talking about it :) Keep doing what you do, your guitar channel is one of the best in my humble opinion ;)
Thank you sir! Thanks for watching!
That opening lick!! 🔥🔥🔥
Yep Guthrie has about 12,000 of those under his fingers at all times.
Sick! Totally mind blowing
Guthrie has that effect on people!
Wow that's some very beautiful playing.
Guthrie is the man!
i cannot stop replaying this intro man ive been sitting here for 2 hours
Haha awesome! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great lessons man ive made a huge discovery, subbed with notifications on ! Lol now onwards to glory 👍🏻😬
Bending in and out of major/minor 3rds + bending in and out of major/minor 7ths is awesome. Sounds so bad if you don't do it right, but when it is done right..good work.
Thanks!
So worth the watch, as expected. Very inspiring. I’ll never forget the time Papa Took the time to comment on one of my videos many years ago. He’s an amazing and humble player. Loving this channel!
Awesome! That's because you have a great freakin' channel! Post more! Thanks for watching!
Many thanks, PS! I really want to start posting vids again soon. My most recent stuff has been playing with the Lexington Lab Band live and in studio on occasion. Great people and musicians. If you have a chance check out their Boston episode here on RUclips. 5 songs in total and I’m playing the Ebony Les Paul Standard and Whale Blue PRS Singlecut. They cover everything from Steely Adan to Johnny Cash. Had a blast!
Many thanks for this. Guthrie is obviously such a nice guy. And a great player, too, as is Brett.
Thanks! Thanks for checking it out!
Great way of explaining it Guthrie.
Thanks for checking it out!
Great lesson, guys. Thanks!
Sure thing! Thanks for checking it out!
thank you BOTH SO much...wonderful stuff!!! TYSM!!! ;0) M
Sure thing!
That is what teaching videos should be like. Great, great, great!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!
You and @martyschwartz are my favourite guitar tutors. I learned so much from you both. Rock on! Greetings from Scotland! 😜🏴🤘
Right around 20:30 I was like hey that sounds very Cuban..... sure enough Guthrie ends up mentioning it. That minor to dominant sound with harmonic minor is so good.
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!
Thanks Thanks Thanks! Thanks for checking out the vid! More coming soon!
Damn that first lick lay down, this dude is sick. This is a fantastic window into an amazing guitar mind, very educational if you are intermediate - advanced with guitar.
I gotta say this video is really awesome, it can take some work but I've got tired of just trying to solo over the root chord or the relative minor and always had trouble jumping from chord to cord while improvising a solo. This is very helpful for that.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for checking it out!
papastache102 love that you respond to everything, your pink floyd tutorials have also helped me ALOT in the past and are some of my favorite videos!
Awesome! Thanks for checking them out! More Floyd coming soon!
7:45 - that would be an A diminished, lovely sounding resolution
Fantastic lesson
Thanks for checking it out!
Very good your friend in guitar!my congratulations
Yep Guthrie is the man!
Thats What I Need !!!
Thanx Guys !
Sure thing!
Awsome..the man right there👍
Guthrie is the man! Great stuff! More coming soon!
Conocí a Guthrie Trapp en un video con Kenny Vaughan, desde entonces sigo su carrera. Gran sorpresa verlo junto a uno de los mejores maestros en YT. Una valiosa lección. Gracias por compartir su conocimiento. The best name for guitar is Practice Trapp.
Now, how awesome would it be to see Trapp and Price get together and bounce guitar playing techniques off of each other! I can only imagine. Thanks Papa! This was great!
I did a video with both of them already. Its on my channel. Live stuff with all of us coming soon!
