I have this exact knife, but it's the 1st Marines Holmand Province Afghanistan Edition that was given to all the 1st Marines. Very rare S30V Knife and it's my EDC. People are always fascinated by it.
Carried an 06 Auto Tanto partially serrated every day since they were first released. I upgraded the spring a few years in. It's seen hard use as a duty knife but it has never failed me.
Where can I find the spring upgrade?
Yea my favorite Gerber. My Commander got the entire company one for completion of campaign from Aug ‘09-Dec ‘10 OEF Afgh.
S30V Black Coated serrated blade and black Anodized 6061 aluminum handles. Love it.
Will never give it up, from trade either. A few people offered a Benchmade Infidel, Spyderco, and I’m like hahaha nope.
Gerber is a great company with an excellent selection of fair priced Knives.
Good knife. My only small complaint is that with this design, the edge should be sharpened all the way to the end. Unless there is some reason when the knife is closed, that the edge hits something, then there is no reason at all to not go all the way. Why leave that little unsharpened bit?
yes I agree should have mentioned it in this video it more has to do with how the machines are sharpening the knives even knives that are hand sharpened on a wheel before being packed up are not hand ground, one difference between a production knife and semi custom or custom knives...In other words im fairly sure its not on purpose its just a limitation on the machined used...
Graeme Gourley i bet money it’s so the sharpening belt doesn’t hit the guard
When I first saw this years ago I thought I was so goofy but the past month everyone has been raving about this knife n I’ve fallen in love
So your opinion only changed when everyone started talking about it, hmmm lmao
I will always stand behind American made Gerber knives. I have this one with the tanto blade. My first was, I forget the name, it was the late 80's maybe very early 90's from fort Knox's px when my cousins husband took me on base. Anyways it had interchangeable blades, one drop point, one with gut hook and a saw. It was awesome. It came in handy when I crashed the huey simulator. Huey. I'm old. ☹
I own two. Very well made video.
You said it in the end .. Gerber makes some great knives snd etc etc.
I just picked up the proponent ...nice suit tie knife. But, the one you just did is my favorite...Gerber is underrated due to overseas editions.
Unfair to younger buyers as they all think Gerber is an overseas knife.
I carried many years as a LE guy. Never failed. Me.
I still have the large Gerber bowie knife from the 80's. still new in box and called the Excalibur. nice USA made knife and collectable. I paid over 100 then
I’m glad I bought one of these for my Wife as a stocking stuffer and she loved it from the start.
I’m glad she Carrie’s it daily and she will not part with it no
Matter how
Much I beg her.
I think I’m going to buy one for myself.
A literal tank. Can’t hurt it
I don’t like gerber but i love this knive 😉
Respect From France 🇫🇷 ✌️
My first kinfe was Gerber and this is so different from what i had
Not normally a gerber guy but this knife interest.
How is your brothwehr?
I think they got a bad reputation when they did Bear Grylls series. They were "okay" knives mainly just rebranded from other models. Love my 06, definitely seen better days. The spring is pretty weak now days but it's for sure a great knife. Not sure if I can warranty it, because the Army bought it for me.
you can replace with .MAXX or MEGA torque .5" coil spring from knifekits d0t c0m for a few bucks
Gerber gets a pretty bad reputation but the 06 auto is one of my favorite knives I own.
Great vid and 100% spot on. Not a Gerber fan at all, but the 06 is great 👍🏻.
The first video of yours I ever saw was the baliyo pen and im glad I found you
Similar to the Benchmade afo. I prefer the afo.
I pretty much rotate between the two as a duty carry and both are great. AFO is definitely far more snappy and a little better build quality, but the ergonomics on the 06 are awesome. At least for my hand anyways.
I just got one but when I close it, it hits the back spacer before it hits the stop pin does your do that has play when closed.
That's amazing I was looking for his review of this this morning
Exactly, love their gerber stromgarm an the prodigy knives an some of theirvfolders.
Wow really amazing Gerber knife!!! :D
:D
That’s a great knife
Nice looking 👍
At $170 US it isn't cheap.
David Terry it's made in the United States with quality material not Chinese made material with Chinese sweat shop wages.
Go beat you chest someplace else. The excuse of but it's made in America so has to be 5 times more expensive is crap. American's don't make excuses they produce results and win. A quick search of Blade HQ will reveal many American Made Autos in better steel and at lower prices. I never said it was a bad knife just pricy..
David Terry I'm not "beating my chest" I'm explaining why it costs more. Companies price knives to make up for the labor, materials, services and marketing and a profit. If you don't like the price then don't buy it save your breath because bitching about it being $170 won't get them to reduce the price. Gerber priced this knife at $170 because they know people out there are willing to pay it.
You are correct. People will buy it. I was just stating for me it wasn't worth it. Others will love it. I appreciate your input but I tire of excuses for American production. We can and will overcome inequities in the market. I just always hate excuses. We will find a better way of production, better and cheaper materials, ect. but just throwing your hands up and saying it is American so pay more is Socialist not Capitalist.
.
David Terry it's as capitalist as it gets. Socialist would be lowering the price because the poor workers of the country couldn't afford it.
I love gerber, very durable for its price
Like this one,had it for a while.Good knife.Good review!
I have a Gerber 06 auto and a Gerber 06 manual and I love them both I bought the manual on eBay awhile back a knife store was selling them brand new in bow for $60 shipped and it's exactly the same as the auto same s30v steel and all just not not auto
you know its a cutlerylover video when you hear "comftuhble"
GAWD I LUV ALUMINUM HANDLES.👍 and chunky...its in my wish list at you know where. those nerds that say its so slow, need to go buy a 80's Subaru and hemp sandals to match their hipster opinions.
I know the dilemma on gerber, I bought a prodigy a few months ago, an used the same sheath it came with, slightly modified an will trust an carry anywhere, the knife itself is as good as any in that size range. The handle keeps drawing me back over an over, an according to my wife I may have a few to many blades. Some are three or four times the Prodigy.
Awesome review, sweet Gerber ya got there! I always felt they got a bad rap but let's be real, for every piece of crap like the Vallotton they make, there's also awesome knives like the Covert so, it balances out.
I love the gerber flat iron
Good video. Love the drop point profile.
Gerber 06 auto at my Walmart sells for 64 bucks, but I think is has plastic handles or something, doesn't look like metal. but I do have a 06 auto I carry sometimes, its a older one that's beat up. love the knife
its more than likely the manual version not an auto, manual would still have a button lock but no safety switch...
@@cutlerylover The walmart one is the 06 Fast which is spring assisted. Cheap blade steel and cheap "g10" scales that feel more like plastic. They still have a safety but they also have thumb studs. I've got them in both black and tan just because why not? I also have the same 10th anniversary 06 Auto and I love it except for the red loctite they used on all the fasteners.
Still have my Gerber Gator, Circa 1992.
Hmm, I might have to pick one up someday.
I have the 06 manual. I really want to get the automatic model to.
Love that 06!
Hey, thanks for the review! I just got mine (the 06 Auto Anniv.) and was wondering if yours came with a nylon pouch, for the knife, in the box. Mine did not, but I’ve seen other reviews (and unboxing) where theirs came with a decent velcro nylon Gerber pouch. I know it’s been 3 years since your review, but if you do happen to see this, will you answer? Thanks again!
I found a serrated version of this on the ground a month ago.
You took it right
@@jciarkowski3109 Yup. The safety has since broken off tho.
Jonny Augz you don’t need a safety, they’re overrated
Bill Dauterive I mean if I found one I’d probably take the spring out
Don't like Gerber but if it's really s30 it's a hell of a deal. I use my zt hard and think it doesn't hold a edge. Sharpen mine with a wicked edge.
Talk to me about the action... a lot of talk about the slow action. This was my first auto back in the day but lost it. Have Benchmade’s, Protech’s, Microtech’s, etc. What say you on action?
Nice looking knife.
QC over there is lacking. Just got mine. Uneven grind on the edge, big scratch on the blade and plenty of blade play. I otherwise like the knife but for the money I expect better.
I tried adjusting pivot screw to remove blade play. I can tighten it to the point the knife will not open and it still has a lot of blade play. I really wanted to like this knife but it's going back.
Hey Jeff, this is a bit off topic but have you used BuyLighters.com recently? It would seem that they've gone out of buisness. Their facebook page has been dead since 2017 and the website seems to be inaccessible.
I thought the 10th anniversary 06 was 3.8 inches? I have the tanto great hard use knife. Thanks for the video.
I have a question I'm hoping you might be able to answer since you handle a few auto knives. I own a Benchmade auto presidio and the guy who sold me the knife took it apart and wasn't able to put it back together. Do you have any tips to realign the main spring around the axis lock that make it a lot harder to put tension on the spring?
How'd you get it so snappy??
Well done vid. Thx.
Thought you liked the fastball and what good is an auto if you can't carry it?
Maybe for collection dummy
Why is there 1/4" of unsharpened edge at the heel of the blade? There's a sharpening choil, then a blunted edge then the cutting edge doesn't make sense to me?????
production manufacturers using machine shave limitations thats would be the reason its unsharpened the machines cant get that low towards the Handle
Are you going to Plastidip it?
Other than gerber a Chinese budget knives, their US made stuff is perfect. No frills and durable designs.
Thoughts on the smith and Wesson search and rescue fixed blade
Gerber is a great knife company they make something for EVERYONE! Wanna be the guy with 101 tool multi-tool they have you covered. Wanna gift an adventurous little 8 year old a starter knife or pocket knife for around the acreage they have you covered (mind you I knew knife and blade safety at a young age). Wanna buy a fixed blade that'll last some time in the bush or hell the road side safety kit if your like me. They have something for everyone. I've yet to try a $150+ option from them but hell even the knife I was gifted couple years ago I forget model has served me time and time again when I need
I actually edc a gerber prybrid. Small enough to barely realize it's there but at times of need she's a reach away
Why didn’t they just take the edge all the way to the plunge? Lol.
True, stupid stuff like that is why i won't buy that knife, same thing with cold steel recon 1, i would own one of each of every blade configuration if it wasn't for the stupid unsharpened part between the edge and the ricasso 🤷🏻♂️ Thy shall not taketh my mammon ye stupid knife companies!!!
more than likely a limitations on the machines grinding and sharpening them...
Nice
A good flipper or assisted deploy just as quick or quicker and are legal to carry....why an auto?
Collectible and easier to deploy with button on handle and less exertion applied
Hello can you please tell me if this knife comes with a pouch?
It does. A nylon pouch
Cool
How do I buy one without credentials
Buy from Kenesaw as long as you don’t live in NY state.
Hi
Kool but to much marking for my preference
I don't understand that knife. You flip the switch and 2 seconds later the blade comes out? I'm good. Knives are too expensive for that B.S..
Moron stfu
There designs are ok, their blade metal sux...I have a gator from 1994 and the edge retention is like a lead butter knife.
I think they over price autos
Could you stab a deer and make cuts of meat with this?
The knives Gerber makes in China are not that great. Their U.S. made knives are pretty good quality, I have several, and the 06 Auto is on the way, the Tanto version. My advice to Gerber, stop making knives in China.
The website you’re sending folks to is more than twice the price as Amazon . Definitely won’t be buying from blade HQ s inflated prices ....ever . Sorry
