I was issued a 06 Tanto and it's my favorite knife. I've sharpened it once and the blade steel just holds and edge forever seems like. I just bought a Covert Auto Grey stonewashed blade and it's just as solid as my 06. Gerber really made these knives beefy and strong. Made in America! I have Benchmade and I never carry it, it's a total let down.

My uncle gave me a Emerson design automatic Gerber knife and they are now legal to carry in Michigan I love it

Back in the early 200's, I went to a hardware store, looking for a pocket knife to replace the one I had recently lost, and the salesman highly recommended that I get the Gerber F.A.S.T, a small, assisted knife that he carried. Up to that point I hadn't given folders that much attention. Suffice it to say, I was mostly carrying Victorinox pocket knives. From the beginning, I loved that F. A. S. T. Model and carried it as my only EDC, until the time I accidentally left it forgotten in a warehouse. I have since moved on to other great knives, but I still fondly remember that Gerber that for 10 years served me so well. 💕

I've owned a few Gerber products over the past few years and I've never cared for them, this actually makes me want one now, lol
Never really been interested in Gerber but I just ordered a mini covert in Multicam tonight since it was only $99 on sale and added to my 3rd order of discontinued Benchmades to get another mini Griptillian to give my dad and saw that Gerber on sale so figured I would get it too.
I carried a Gerber in 75 in the military I've never owned another since don't know why I never looked at them again but they did make alot of crap for a long time now these look nice I may have to look at them again thank you for the video James

Well I am super stoked that Colorado finally repealed the automatic laws. I am a huge fan of autos and would love to own a kershaw launch or maybe a new Gerber. Not a huge fan of Gerber but I am kinda liking the new auto line. I haven't gotten an automatic just because of the Colorado laws but now I will!!

Recently found that the HOUGE EX-AO5 and in general other models and styles are where you get that super snappy and seems extra over and beyond quality very strong !!!

Saw the film a couple of days ago. It was extremely well done.
I own spring-assisted Coverts...the big and mini...and like both very much. The Mini Covert is a delight. We can't carry automatics where I live and it is even little sketchy for the F.A.S.T. but what-the-hell!
DCavalcade unfortunately the assisted coverts are made in China and are completely different than the USA made gerbers
I edc the anniversary model 06 Auto. Its starting to show wear and tear very very nicely. The od green has a nice patina to it. I think if Gerber made a mini version of the 06, it would do very very well!!

The only thing I own by Gerber is the Dime micro multitool. Thinking about getting the larger Covert. The only other auto I have besides a cheap Ganzo is the Protech tr-4. One of my favorite knives. Blade deploys with some serious force. Very solid feathered aluminum scales, fits my hand perfectly, it has a usable forward choil, and a steel backspacer with a pommel. All blacked out, very tacticool.

Nice video, very informative & entertaining. Myself am looking at the Gerber Auto Covert. I currently have a Benchmade Auto Striker. I do like Gerber Knives, most of mine are made in the USA. Would love to get a Gerber patch, hopefully you’ll still have‘m in stock when I order.

I own an 06 Auto and both the Fairbourn/Applegate full size and mini. I carry the 06 Auto as my EDC. It is a drop point/half serrated model in black. It actually replaced my Microtech Ultratech Tactical OTF as my EDC option. The 06 Auto is a great all-around knife. The Covert Fairbourn/Applegate is not technically legal for EDC in my state.
the propel comes in 2 steels. black is 420hc and the rest is s30v. you should cover assisted and explain how they differ from automatic.
Don't forget the handicapped. I have neuropathy--I lost feeling in my hands. The Gerber automatic knife is the only knife I've found that I can operate with just one hand.
I love my gerber 06 auto I got the tanto with serrations from a military girl for $20 is was all over the world and I'm proud to own a pice of American history! I need to get it sharpened though! You should offer a sharpening service!
Nice video. More of a comment than a question. I've had a couple of Gerber 06 auto knives and they were slow opening and, I feel, too heavy for what they were (pretty much of a sheath knife IMO). I still have a Gerber Emerson Alliance - and it also is slow opening and, further, the eccentric blade stop slips so the knife develops up & own blade play after few openings. I have kept the Alliance since I feel the heat treat of the 154cm blade is exemplary (I keep an OxForge "black knife" for the same reason - great heat treat given to the 440C blade). The build craftsmanship is/was good on these Gerber knives, though. Watching your video appears to indicate the opening speed is faster on these newer production pieces. Might look into a newer Alliance as I like the design.

I may get the Gerber automatic 06 for edc, recently Illinois approved automatic knives as long as you have a valid FOID card.

I've got an 06 and love the size and feel of the big grip. Only issue I have is I can't get it sharp and I've tried everything.

I know this video is old, but maybe this comment is more relevant now. I never got onto Gerber because for a long time it seemed like all of their knives were made in China with a "high carbon steel" that didn't have a name to it which made me uncomfortable to carry. I have noticed now though that they are moving more into US made. Which makes me happy and more wanting to carry a Gerber.
I have the 06 F A S T. Model. It is a TANK. I love it. Do buy.
The Gerber 06 Auto (I have two) isn't legal under the new Colorado automatic knife law, which limits blade length to 3.5". I believe you still get a pass on any auto if you're active MIL on duty, LEO, or First Responder. Also, the law only just went into effect August 9, 2017.

I really want a gerber auto with no serrations! The only serrations I like are the veff serrations on crkt knives! But other then that I will only get plain edge! Which ones of the autos are best for the price?

Came into the store about week ago and bought 06 auto Tonto love it so far but I did not get a patch.
I had an 06 auto that I wanted to hang on a wall so that I could thell the story of my knife. I was medevcac from my injuries into Germany where they immediately confiscated our knives. I would love toe reorder the exact knife I had which was a serrated aluminium 06 auto. The history of my knife was epic and some one from the AF took it and threw it in a basket. I was so pissed, that knife would have been the physical manifestation of how I was able to self rescue and get to a 240b to suppress an enemy that was advancing on our disable convoy security detail. Cheers!!!
Only issue I found with Gerber auto's and I have numerous different models and styles, the only one that is snappy is the covert cus the propel and even slower is the o6, extremely sluggish to the point that after lubrication was almost immobile in deployment !!!
In fact watch the video just recently that seems to be a flaw in that particular instance where they put too much Loctite as well as they upgraded the spring to a mega spring to assist the facilitate how much snappier deployment...

Replace the Rescue Cutter on the Center Drive with some proper Scissors!
Gerber should make a Propel Mini It's an attractive design but, for a few reasons. People are already skeptical of their quality control and that's obvious reading Amazon reviews, for that reason, people aren't going to take a risk buying a Gerber product over a hundred dollars when other companies can provide a much better product for less. Plus most people want a compact knife for work that isn't intimidating, probably a 3in blade would be suitable. A 3in blade is also the legal limit in some states which is why I chose that length. Imo a Propel Mini would sell better for that reason alone and it wouldn't have to be an auto which would make it even more affordable to customers.
All knives are legal to carry in Tennessee as of 2014.

I need some help. Ive never owned an auto and only one high end knife (Emerson Sheepdog). Im wanting G10, and a tanto blade. Its came down to the Propel and the Auto 06. Which one would be a good first, and for a decade long use?

The Gerber 06 is hardly a prolific auto. It was just a cheaper version of the Benchmade AFO which was a cheaper version of the original handmade "black knife."
Love the knives, but when will the public be able to buy without being military or law enforcement?
Love the video... but I keep hearing about Propel's and other Gerber autos NOT LOCKING OPEN. I have a few Autos and the idea of it not locking is crazy to me. This isn't limited to a few reviews, there are TONS of reports of Autos not locking open.
