    There are three options the knifekits site has for .50 Gerber 06 springs:
    1. Factory strength
    2. MAXX Torque COILM50 (silver)
    3. MEGA Torque COILMG50 (black)
    You should use #2, this provides a stronger opening than the factory. #3 will need the spring seat milled to fit, it's too big and puts friction on the blade.
    Good video showing the internals.

    • @drerod89
      @drerod89 2 года назад

      I just bought a .375 mega spring for this ccc auto that i wanted to fix, I'm worried that it both won't fit, and will be too powerful and knock little pin that stops the blade right out of the knife. Do you think I'll be alright, or should I just eat the cost and order a maxx spring?

    • @sc8463
      @sc8463 2 года назад +5

      @@drerod89 Don't even bother with the MEGA Torque COILMG50 spring, it is too large and will not seat. They sell a bit to mill the spring seat if you really want to go that route, but you are of course taking a risk by milling it.
      Buy the MAXX Torque COILM50 and just drop it in (a small battle, the mechanism is fidgety). This will give you the functionality you should have received from the factory in the first place.

    I have two 06 Gerbers. One 10th Annv that works perfect. Other is a serrated tanto that was super slow or never fully opened. Took it apart to clean it. Yes lots of red loctite. The blade stop with the double screws needed the most cleaning one screw stopped halfway in. Three total tear downs later finally got it back together with a slightly deformed(once pinched) spring, it fires correctly. Not a heavy snap like my 10 Annv but no restrictions and all the way open and locked. I feel it could use a better spring but going to relax my nerves a while before attempting again.

      Yeah, both of mines came very very sluggish, like they used honey instead of oil :-D I knew the 06 was known for slow action but oiled mines and loosened the pivot screw a little and they are fine. Not the best (Oh sweet ProTech) but reliable. And I thing what helped most was playing with it, it loosened a little by simply using it. What was surprising for me is the blade play and differences between knives - both new from the box and they behaved differently - tolerances aren't best IMHO. But the knife is a beast, love it.

  • @freezersk
    @freezersk 5 месяцев назад

    Thanks for the video - watched for interest of the blade internals, not using any washers just metal on metal is surprising, but it could explain the sluggishness and not much of success of tuning the knife - no sweet point between blade play and reliable action - if I tighten the knife so there is no play the action just don't work. Then when I loosen the screw a little so action works, the blade play is back.

I got an 06 and have just spent a hour trying to get that damned thing together after taking it apart for some maintenance but if tighten it so the blade is centered and the back part of the pivot is mostly flush it will not open well so I'm hoping a stronger spring will help that

    If the lock system is set up the same way as my gerber covert automatic, there is a small notch on the back of the blade that becomes worn. Blade needs replaced or custom fabricated (welded/dremel)
    That notch holds the blade in place while it’s locked as well as keeping the blade locked. It’s really a bad design
