Incredibly sad news to hear about Lance Reddick's passing over the weekend. I honestly don't know what to say. Lance wasn't just Zavala, but he was a Destiny fan and constantly took the time to interact and engage with the Destiny community. Hopefully this video may serve as a slight distraction for the day. Farewell, Commander.
I am certain that the Tormentors are headless because they were meant to host Nezarec’s head. And for whatever reason, they could not. So a body had to be grown from the head itself.
Myelin, tormentors look like Nez, not the other way around. The lore says the witness used calus' cloning tech to make tormentors, clearly he used the body of Nez to do so.
Myelin, you not liking the design of Nezarec being too close to Tormentors might be intentional. I believe the correct way of seeing things is that Tormentors look similar to Nezarec. Tormentor boss names have "Imprint of Nezarec" and "Cavum of Nezarec" possibly meaning that Nez came first and somehow influenced the Tormentor look. Either way Nez and Tormentors are related somehow.
I was about to comment this too. I think that being introduced to Tormentors first through the campaign kinda watered down Nezarec's reveal. Something that bugs me, though, is that Tormentors & Nezarec have similar traits to Rhulk, who is supposed to be the last of his people. I don't think the Darkness has an effect on physical appearance (bc Calus & Savathun don't share those same traits), so it's kind of a confusing design choice by Bungie. As far as I know, there aren't any links between Nez & Rhulk, other than the Witness itself, so I can't work out why they're so similar
@@ChaosRaych Rhulk actually annointed Nezarec as a disciple. We don't really know Nezarec's origins before that so maybe he was some incorporeal being and the Witness/Rhulk created a body for him? Idk just speculating.
@@jadeviper1290 it is also believed that he is a chimera due to his eyes. Perhaps some of the experiment that was done on his body is similar to that of Rhulk's body which would explain why his recreation made him look like Dad Bod Rhulk. As was said in another comment here that I saw, I believe the Tormentors were "test bodies" for Nezarec.
A lot of people are already pointing out tormentor names like "imprint of Nezarec" that suggest tormentors are based on Nezarec, but I want to add that this could be why the Witness wanted Nezarec's body anyway. Perhaps a piece of the original tormentor (Nezarec) was needed to make the others.
One cool thing I noticed is the explanation of the 'link' that the Witness needed for the Veil and how Nezarec was haunting the Cloud Ark. You can see a radial mast antennae like device in the raid that is pointed right at the Traveler. This seems to be the intended receiver for the radial mast to link the veil and strike the traveler.
Myelin I think you're over interpreting nezarac saying "left me here to rot" I think this is bungie using a common phrase to explain waiting a very long time almost until death. Which does 100% confirm nezarac wouldn't have been able to leave the pyramid ship in his state
Love your videos never this early to uploads but I guess that’s what happens when your up at 6am your an amazing content creator and thank you for everything:)
Personally, I would have preferred a sleeker design. I don't really mind the sort of brutish aesthetic they were seemingly going for but... If they were going to go with a bulky aesthetic, I do wish they had buffed Nezarec the hell up. I know his look is meant to be chimeric, as if made of different things, but... Idk, his "dad bod", as people have said, and his lanky/long arms, give him this weird... baboon-like appearance that I do not dig. His wings appear tacked on, which I suppose goes well with the chimera concept, but it just... lol well, sorry, it just doesn't work for me. Dude looks like some sort of baboon with butterfly wings and a horned head. His head is by far, in my opinion, the coolest thing about his design.
@@JJMomoida i think making him a bit more skeletal or spiky in silhoutte could've been great with the tendrils separating into small groups resembling wings. I really like the head though. If he went from dark to red also, that woulda worked
Did anyone else notice that the blast that the Traveler blew through the Pyramid and in turn Nezarecs Tomb created a Gift Mast so that light would still flow to the Tree of Silver Wings. Logically if Calus was trying to use the Radial Mast to simulate a light connection to The Veil he and The Witness would model it after something that they had knowledge of. That something was The Gift Mast that The Traveler gave to The Harmony and Oryx consumed. If you look at a The Radial Mast throughout the campaign it is a physically created version of the piercing Mast like thing that is above where Nezarec appears. The same symbols exist in the Antenna or Mast but are made of pure light.
I'd like to imagine that, for whatever reason Nezzys revival in ron was imperfect, unfinished, or maybe even rushed. Perhaps being dead for so long made him a bit stir crazy, or maybe we just didn't feed his body with enough paracausal energy. Anyway, whatever the reason is or could be, I sincerely hope that Nezarec returns in the future and that they finally give his boss fight and design the justice it deserves! Like, can you imagine how unbelievably cool a raid or rather ron, could be? What if it had actual nightmare mechanics? Or felt very dream esq and surreal? What if it really leaned into his terror and the raid was full on horror genre? The raid could have gaurdians traveling the nightmare realm, being toyed with by Nezarec, maybe even have an encounter that causes allies to appear as enemies? Just really cool "play with their mind" sorts of things. ( Considering the haunted leviathan, shadow keep, and presage, I genuinely believed that if Nezarec ever made his way into the game he'd have one of the coolest most surreal raids ever made. )
They dropped the ball big time on almost everything lightfall. It’s going to take the whole year to correct and rebuild trust only for them to do the same to us next year. Your ideas on the raid sound great, would’ve been a lot more novel and interesting.
i was thinking maybe it's like a reversed Oryx, where we kill Nez in the raid to them pursue him in the shadow/nightmare realm where we get our new subclass, in final shape.
Nezerac states in the raid that he is significantly weaker now. His body seems thrown together considering the texture of his body is completely different than his head. In first encounter you can see all that he had left was his head, and as we progress through the raid we empower him. I assume his original body was similar to what we have but he wasn't as chunky and had black skin instead of red. He could've gotten chubby by being infused with an overabundance of Light when he's a being of Darkness, sorta had some kind of negative effect on his revival.
Rip our commander. Nezarecs lore and original concept art is absolutely fantastic. One of them he looks like the grim reaper its insane. I dont understand why his final design looks like peter griffin. Peeaaaace.
Nezarec is one of my favorite characters. He’s been around day 1 of d2 and now he’s finally here and we know so much. I love him so much I kinda don’t wanna drop the Nezarec’s Whisper 😅. Dope character. W Bungie with this one.
I'm sure this has been pointed out but to the last point about Nezarec's design, the tormentors in the campaign are all named something like impression of Nezarec which I took to mean they were clones, copies, imitations of the big bad himself
He was talking about from a gameplay-perspective. Nezarec shares a lot of moves that the Tormentors use, so he didn't really make you fight him much differently than a normal Tormentor, besides the encounter's mechanics. If we didn't have Tormentors before the Raid released, this design would have likely made a lot of people happier with Nezarec as a boss, but they kind of just drive home the idea that most Destiny bosses are just "big versions" of a pre-existing enemy. The only true exceptions to this (off the top of my head) are Rhulk, Oryx, Xol, and Aksis.
I think Nezarec looked pretty goofy though. He looked a bit like Rhulk got depressed after we beat him and started wearing red pajamas and gained weight from eating too much Light and Dark flavored paracausal ice cream. 😆
There's a voice line, from Quinn I think, where the question is asked if tormentors are the same species as Nezarec, or if they are clones (Calus has cloning tech).
Something I don’t think that was mentioned or really talked about but I think Nezzy has been haunting people that the Traveler has visited, which would explain his exposure even in the golden age. I keep remembering the post-Splicer voice lines about the fear that the Eliksni had in nightmares.
Dreams, nightmares, memories, it’s like all of that exists on the plane that ‘darkness’ affects. My assumption is that the ‘spirit/darkness’ stuff is connected to everything else in the universe, in an ephemeral way that strand brings to the material, so nezarec touching nightmares or the egregore touching memories makes sense, and brains and dendrites and mushroom psylla all look the same, it’s like a “what if we existed in another dimension, and sorta are plugged into the matrix where our brains in this universe are just the other end, like how the veil on one side is all fillamenty. We’ve been looking at light and dark as two opposite shapes but what if it’s three? Mind body and spirit, darkness light (physical) and…our spirits reaching out from across the veil? It’s giving me real Cenobite vibes, combine the circle and triangle to step thru into the 4th dimension, and like how we cast shadows from 3d onto a 2d surface, our ‘selves’ in this dimension are shadows being cast onto this plane from the 4th dimension? First, we love you Lance, safe passage through the stars Commander. For Neserac, I said it somewhere else but in Lightfall I've felt a D&D influence and to me RoN looks like a representation of the Feywild/First World and Nezzy looks like an ArchFey. So from that perspective I think it's all super fun.
Nezarec should have been the one thing Rated R in Destiny 2 ... shifting ... growing ... axe into scythe ... bleeding light and darkness on the ground ... attacking with his horns and wings. Imagine the last phase, Nezarec walking like a spider, wings as legs, spitting darkness, cancelling supers, one teammate to be sacrificed to Nezarec, grabbed by his mind and thrown into the portal to disintegrate, shockwave weakening Nezarec. Anyway. Instead, he just look gooffier than the concept arts. Great Job on the Video ! 😗👌
His Story feels like it Closely Mimicks Rhulk's Especially the part where Rhulk was forced to slowly influence a civilization indirectly over generations from the shadows rather than by force , and I'm willing to wager Nezarec deeply favored and Enjoyed this method (perhaps a little too much and would drag it out longer than preferred) However like Rhulk, Savathun sabotaged his plans and sealed him away only for us to kill them at a later date, and what we see in the lore is his attempts to maintain his existence through his Tombs and People he corrupted before his demise.
Anyone notice how in Witch Queen the Light 3.0 subclasses released in the following order: Void>Solar>Arc? Now in the first stage of Lightfall, we see a darkness disciple who seems to be the master of Void Perhaps next season we will see a darkness fire god next?
if the good story bits only exist in the lore and there's no sign of destiny getting novels like halo I think I'm done playing the games. I don't fire up a game so I can read lore tabs and there are plenty of other games with grappling hooks. I'll stick around to have myelin and byf explain through to the end of final shape though
I personally like the design of Nezarec. Nezarec and the tormentors gave us a new enemy design. Every raid boss or at least almost all where basically a bigger version of basic enemies. Atheon, big vex with different head. Crota, big see though green knight. Oryx, skinny crota. Calus, big robot cabal
I feel like it's more accurate to say Tormentors are similar to Nez, because I think as Osiris said when we first encounter a tormentor, "the fruits of calus and the witness's alliance" might imply that the Tormentors are the witness's attempts to clone Nez or resurrect him, hence why he needed the body parts. Calus's has the means to clone soldiers in masse.
the titan mark wording is awesome. it brings up a comparison between fear/terror vs the void. which one is truly worse or consuming? fascinating perspectives can arise from this comparison, and clearly, the person in the lore felt the void was somehow more terrible than terror itself.
Perhaps it’s possible that the shadows of Yor may attempt to join forces with Nezarec. Nezarec seems to have the same goal as a Dredgen Yor which sometimes makes me suspect that it was the final god of pain that may have possessed Dredgen Yor or was that personality made manifest to some extent, or was the influence of that personality.
I have been told by a few people that I can take them down a massive rabbit hole of a plethora of different theories, especially about lore not just in destiny, but in 90% of the games i play and at least 50 to 60% of real life lore, and historical events.
Interesting that Nezarec's body was grown from the Light beam shot into some sort of (Darkness?) crystal and when he dies, the death looks like that of Rhulk and Calus. This to me makes it seem as if Light was also used to make Calus' and Rhulk's new bodies.
I can’t be the only one kinda disappointed with Nezarec in the game, even with the design. He’s basically just a big tormentor. But the lore hype him up to be this darkness god of pain with multiple tombs. And what we got was just big red guy with belly
I was saying this since the raid was announced, Nezerac should have been in Rhulks position. Nezerac having his Pyramid trapped in Savathuun's ascendant realm would have been perfect, he's known as the betrayer and we know Savathuun tricked the Witness. They could've made it to where Savathuun framed Nezerac as the one who stole the Veil , which caused the Witness and fleet to chase him down but never find him. Dealing with Nezerac in VOW would've made a lot of Encounters with Tormentors make more sense, considering they were called "Imprints of Nezerac" seems weird that they have the title as a clone for sorts of someone we have never met before. We could've still had the missions after VOW as a lore dump for the Upended and a teaser for Rhulk, who we'd meet (But not kill) in the Root of Nightmares raid. Have one of the mid bosses be a Light Infused perfected clone of Nezerac (same fight we have now) , and then Rhulk as the final encounter. It seemed weird to dump these two random characters in places that make no sense for them to be. Why was Nezerac even on the Witnesses ship if he was deemed a betrayer? And what caused Rhulk to get trapped by Savathuun?
I wonder if in a later season nezeracs acolytes will try to take his remaining body parts and rebuild him with darkness, maybe from the crown of sorrow or pyramid artifacts.
You've got it backwards. The Tormentors look similar to Nezarec because they are cloned from his remains. Osiris says that they're a result of the union between Calus and the Witness. What does Calus have? Cabal cloning technology. The Shadow Legion largely consists of Cabal cloned from the honored dead, as discovered in the Duality dungeon. Ergo, Tormentors are cloned from the remains of Nezarec.
Although I think most of the criticisms of Nezarec's design are valid I don't agree with the criticism regarding his similarity to tormentors. I think it's pretty obvious that the Tormentors and Nezarec are closely related. The names of Tormentors like "Imprint of Nezarec" and "Cavum of Nezarec" point to the possibility that they're clones of Nezarec. Probably using Calus' cloning technology.
yh but most destiny strike bosses are just bigger versions of enemies we’ve seen. and nezerac, being a raid boss, is quite disappointing because of this
I think Nezarec looks a lot like the tormentors because they are the same race. During the Lightfall campaign you fight tormentors named Aspect of Nezarec.
Tormentors were created with what was left of Nezerac (his head) and Calus' cloning technology. Seeing how Tormentors are basically headless maybe they were originally meant to be new bodies for Nezerac since Eremis failed to retrieve the rest of his body parts.
So my only question is would he have looked different if the witness would have gotten all his parts and did he look the way he did in the raid because of the infusion of light and dark into the rebirth chamber
I get what people are saying about how the lore reason for tormentors and nezarec looking similar is pretty cool, and I do agree, gameplay wise they just feel too similar an asset for me and seem just a tad lazy. Honestly shouldn't be surprised though, when bungie makes a new model or enemy they get their money's worth
Have we heard anything about the moon are there still nightmares on the moon because if they’re are he is not fully dead yet also part of him is within Osiris wether you acknowledge it or not we do not know the process in which mithrax made this tea that suddenly pulled him out of a coma nor do we know it’s side effects yet
I'd say the Tormentors were Nez' own shock troops and with him out of the way, Witness commands them. More than anything, Bungie screwed us out of a good fight, good progression and a good character.
For everyone saying that the Tormentors are based on Nezarec, how do we know that his form in the raid is his original one? His body looks much smaller in the cutscene, and the traveler regrowing him may have given him an all new form
Your definitely right, they did him justice in lore but in game its like calus, big version of enemy we fought all season like ik its the other way around and theyre based off nezerac but still its pretty boring

@@sircrimsonwolf7492 tbf, lots of d2 terminologies and lores have parallels to irl myths and histories, either due to inspiration or otherwise
Rest in peace commander.

Babe wake up myelin just dropped a new nezzie raid lore video…
nessy. we gonna call him nessy now
8:10 misraaks in trouble.
G force now is only for Australia and New Zealand for those interested
I thought the Tormenters were clones of Nezrac? Haven't betten the raid yet. It looks somewhat fun. Love the vids
You'd think that nezarec being granted some form of light would've granted him some immortality
R.I.P Commander
Meatball Ron is a scary boy
Nezarec...peace.
How do you get the character models for the video images? I have never known and I want to try 3d printing stuff
Just here to dropped a Tormented Taint comment for Ms Watts!
Probably using Calus' cloning technology.
yh but most destiny strike bosses are just bigger versions of enemies we’ve seen. and nezerac, being a raid boss, is quite disappointing because of this
@@dpw0499 Almost every Raid boss before Rhulk was a larger enemy type.
@@nullandvoid7524 yh but nezerac had MORE HYPE THAN THEM

Hey @MyelinGames how about that lore about the Witness' enemy on Titan? And how we should preserve it if it's still alive?
Haunted Tantscratcher
I think Nezarec looks a lot like the tormentors because they are the same race. During the Lightfall campaign you fight tormentors named Aspect of Nezarec.
Tormentors were created with what was left of Nezerac (his head) and Calus' cloning technology. Seeing how Tormentors are basically headless maybe they were originally meant to be new bodies for Nezerac since Eremis failed to retrieve the rest of his body parts.
Nezarec 🎉
That heavily draws from the events of Hereditary movie
Nezzy
Nezzy? Extremely 'strayan there, mate.
YES
So my only question is would he have looked different if the witness would have gotten all his parts and did he look the way he did in the raid because of the infusion of light and dark into the rebirth chamber
I get what people are saying about how the lore reason for tormentors and nezarec looking similar is pretty cool, and I do agree, gameplay wise they just feel too similar an asset for me and seem just a tad lazy. Honestly shouldn't be surprised though, when bungie makes a new model or enemy they get their money's worth
Video starts at 3:00
Have we heard anything about the moon are there still nightmares on the moon because if they’re are he is not fully dead yet also part of him is within Osiris wether you acknowledge it or not we do not know the process in which mithrax made this tea that suddenly pulled him out of a coma nor do we know it’s side effects yet
How do i find the last two lorebooks
GeForce Now is legit - good sponsor to rep
I am an Ultimate Founder member just to play Destiny 2 on the go. It's pretty much your only viable option for portable Destiny 2
I'd say the Tormentors were Nez' own shock troops and with him out of the way, Witness commands them. More than anything, Bungie screwed us out of a good fight, good progression and a good character.
Does the K1 artifact on the moon has anything to do with Nazarac or the Vail
Honestly I think they just forgot about that damn thing
@@DragonKnight90001 you’re probably right lol
Supposedly yes, since you could use Revision Zero to hear his whispers
But it's another wasted thing that Bungie added to his lore
WIDOW'S WALK!!!!!!!!
One of guns says that nezarec have 4 tombs...that means there is 2 remaining somewhere?
But why did Nez haunt Neomuna and not Earth, which was much closer?!
With that dad bod they should have lol
Tormented balls!
Despite the controversy, this raid is possibly one of my favorites regarding the lore
Love me some NEZZY
Tormented Taint
Sad that Nezarac turned out to be a giant Tormentor...
could you talk about nezarec race? I think is amonolity
if Nezarec ends up being Destiny's The Jailer, I'm quitting
Nezarec has Nightmare powers because he's the Disciple from the Moon Pyramid. You know, the one that makes Nightmares?
nezarec
I’m just gonna say it.. Osiris is most likely gonna bring about the return of Nezarec.. He’s gonna be our version of Eris from the Dark Future.
For everyone saying that the Tormentors are based on Nezarec, how do we know that his form in the raid is his original one? His body looks much smaller in the cutscene, and the traveler regrowing him may have given him an all new form
Pre Golden age mean a Modern today earth?
Wait what? what nezarec based on IRL to?
Your definitely right, they did him justice in lore but in game its like calus, big version of enemy we fought all season like ik its the other way around and theyre based off nezerac but still its pretty boring
I thought he was a guardian turned evil tho
