4 seconds in and I can tell you now, no. D2 is effectively dead. The only thing that could revive destiny would be about 3 years of effort to revamp everything and a gutting of the C-suite
I think a game like destiny, while it can be dragged on a bit, i think 7 years is a bit too much. What more can you provide to excite your players? ( of course they can still release smth good but speaking from experience theyre doing the bare minimum). So a new game fixing the wrongs of its predecessor would work better to reignite the flame, while also avoiding putting too much effort in eververse
I think the real issue is that IF bungie can fix D2, which is exponentially looking to be impossible, how many people are going to come back? Bungie has shown that they cannot be trusted at all, and the main story is concluded. So why continue to play a game, with a finished story, and an untrustworthy company at the helm?
In my opinion this is how the game could have been fixed with MINIMAL effort(this is to not guarantee the death, still needs Forsaken level DLCs every year to be relevant: Every season should have brought at least 1 new archetype to the game, like a burst fusion rifle archetype, a 1200 rpm smg archetype, Maybe a crossbow as special ammo, LMG as a primary(highlight on the Light part not MG), Daggers as special ammo melee weapon, Autocannon as a new heavy, 2 round burst Pulse rifles. And probably many more ideas to find. A "unique" Rarity for Armor which is "semi exotic" that either has small unique perks or is a "Set bonus" so if you equip a full set you get some boosts, lets say 4 of the same Set so you can still have an exotic the boosts can be similar to exotic perks where they either just give stat boosts or upgrade subclass abilities or whatever, point is you can have maybe 30 different sets just for weapon types and subclass trees making Build crafting so much more fun then have even more sets for more niche things like combos and buffs. Just adding a new archetype every season would make the loot pool and grind so much more interesting, it doesn't always have to be the best option, sometimes it is enough to be the most fun option. Also what ruined destiny was the removal of past DLC and the idea of not making "too good of an expansion like Forsaken" because it would make the worse ones look even worse. That along with the greed from seasons that never had any real new content just reskinned "do 5 patrols", "do 3 public events" type garbage. Dungeons were good, but should definently also been part of the paid season. Also seasons should have never gone and instead you should be able to replay them in a non matchmaking mode (to not draw players away from other things) and all previous battle passes should have been purchasable. Now the game is ruined and its too late, haven't played since witch king and never will play again because they don't deserve my time or money. I always wanted to return, but when I saw they are not making the annual expansions/ the expansions + the seasons are more expensive. All this content issue would have been fixed by bringing ALL content from ALL seasons and DLC back as OPTIONAL downloads, I don't care if the game would take an additional 100gb because 1. It is optional and 2. I have the space for that.
i don’t think crafting was the issue overall. I think that bungie never put any effort into the actual gameplay and lost a lot of there creativity up to this point. We wouldn’t be complaining about crafting if the activities were enjoyable and unique. It’s actually surprising to me that it took about 10 years of destiny to get a new enemy type. Also we haven’t even left the system? The keep players in the dark about there dlcs because they have been known to scrap all of there work at the last minute because they don’t like how it was. That’s why year one of both games was so shit
Tinctures work now…but I noticed the Exotic Class item attainment isn’t working right 😂. Guess we’ll have to wait until the devs get back from Christmas/holiday break.
If everything should be craftable, then at that point why bother giving us normal drops if we’ll just ignore any perk combination, and dismantle them because it isn’t a red boarder? New players (if there’s still some left) would hold no attachment to newly acquired weapons- even a 5-5 god roll- because they’ll be told, “no just use it as fodder to get its pattern.” D2 is in a really awkward state where it’s very imbalanced in terms of craftable and enhanceable weapons. Bungie needs to create some consistency, but unfortunately it’s already too late for that.
The thing about crafting was that it completely broke the loot incentive in destiny. there is no reason at all to go and play raids or any other end game activity because crafting is too good and the weapons you can craft are just too busted. this is the root of the problem and this is why so many people hate crafting (including myself). I definitely see the benefits and stuff to the average player who can only play an hour or 2 a day but its killed the games loot system. the activities in the game are not fun and the loot is not worth it because bungie practically hands out busted craftible weapons every season to every player. I do not believe the reason for the player drop off is non craftible weapons its more of a loot issue. and for destiny being dead sadly yea probably gonna be gone or close to gone if they dont have a Taken King or a Forsaken Level comeback. they have let down players over and over again and no one really cares for the game anymore at this point too many bugs, bad balancing, bad game design, bad decisions from higher ups and their only interest being the eververse store. shit needs to change fast.
We'll have to agree to disagree on the crafting part at this point. Yes, crafting weapons can be broken, but there are a ton of mid ones too. Plus, at the end of the day, you're just grinding to get those rolls anyway. The fact I can't craft the season weapons makes me not want to play at all. I am okay with non-craftable raid loot though, even though I don't love that idea either. Even with random loot across the board, constantly doing what feels like the same thing for months to years on end gets boring. Most activities for seasonal content are basically the same. I feel what's needed is a new something, maybe like those pre-patch stasis abilities again, or 12-player raids. If there's a fun activity, players will want to play the game, weapons be damned. Maybe just do Pantheon again every few months, see how it goes. I personally want a new raid or Wrath. At this point, I'd say kill Marathon and just do a Destiny 3 on a better engine. Thank you for the comment though, I appreciate seeing other people's perspectives on what could help, i hope you enjoyed the video overall.
@@yeolboyssee this is more of the real issue as someone like myself that’s against crafting and agrees with the person u just responded to particularly in the idea of the loot chase and incentive being dead, the only realistic way is to do D3 a full loot and sandbox reset. As we all know there not doing this and there trying to appeal hardcore like myself but adding loot chase in a game that’s been beaten with so much loot being acquired it doesn’t feel good so being able to get things easier in an already bloated sandbox won’t make as you frustrated but won’t fix D2. D2 is a shell of the past, a game that has been beaten in a grind aspect as well as narrative (even though narrative is not the main reason). I haven’t played since season of the wish and I have thousands of hours across d2 and won’t comeback until they just reset all the loot. Even with what there doing it’s just gonna make the grind more annoying and is a fake reset with armor or weapons going down the road. I think there could be a compromise of crafting going into a new game but there’s just no fixing it in d2, it’s beyond fixing
i dont think crafting is the problem i mean yes crafting is nice but ive played destiny since vanilla d1 and played every dlc the longest break i took wat a year and a half before coming back but a few weeks after TFS launched i had zero motivation to even log in the game i only did a few raids and the seasonal story but thats it i was done when revenant dropped i played the first story mission and listened to a few lines of dialogue but since then i haven't logged in once last i launched the game was October 8th since then ive moved on deleted d2 started warframe and just kept my eye on d2 to see if theres even a chance but there isn't anymore i can tell from whats happening that theres no effort being put into it d2 is on life support its sad to see and if there ever is a comeback ill consider redownloading but the issues i currently see is 1. bugs and overall quality of the content has plummeted 2. no real reason to come back aka no reason to grind weapons and armor and 3. the largest problem that may be causing 2 is the lack of direction the witness is dead he Traveller saved and the guardian is at their peak of power with prismatic all the mysteries solved the black fleet has no more secrets to hold and theres no real big bad to take down or even challenge the last city yes we could help the cabal take back their home or go get riis back for the fallen but why. look at warframe a year or two ago did their version of a final shape with the new war when that was over people didn't just leave people stayed because there was more to figure out with the man in the wall something they set up long before the new war not like destiny where theirs mentions of the 'winnower' that currently pose zero threat destiny is gone thats hard to say for me but i think its time we let it go.
I hate to say but crafting ruined the game. It's a looter shooter. You're meant to grind the game to get the roll you want.Raids have became pointless now due to crafting that's why lfg numbers for raids are down. Once I got all the red borders I just didn't touch the raids apart from when I wanted to do trio or duo clears. I get that it's eaiser for more casual players to get the rolls they desire but it ruins the loot incentive completely for others. The tonic system that now works as intended is fine. You get a steady flow of weapons you want coming in so getting the god roll doesn't take as long. Also about the stroy, these episodes aren't meant to set up the new big bad, they're supposed to wrap up loose ends that couldn't be covered in the final shape. Idk why people fail to understand this
I stopped playing Destiny a few months before TFS dropped. I even refunded the pre order. I lost that much interest thanks to lightfall and subsequent seasons. Shame s I was an avid raider. Something broke for me in the game and from what I have seen, it has not encouraged me to go back.
@ I want to say a D3 would help. Frankly, after sunsetting happened, they shoulda started to make it back then IMO. But, yes very low faith in Bungie. Maybe once Sony has full control things will turn around, but I dunno. Marathon gives me no excitement either. We will see. I hate saying never!
@@verios44 You bring up some interesting points! I think a lot of players felt burned by sunsetting and it definitely shook confidence in Bungie's long-term vision for Destiny 2. Starting fresh with a Destiny 3 could be a good way to address some of the underlying issues with the current game engine and give them a chance to reimagine the core gameplay loop. I hope Bungie improves under Sony's ownership. I haven't seen too many bad games from Sony, just some questionable decisions, like forcing PC players to have a PSN account. I understand why they did it, but a lot of people couldn't play Helldivers 2 for a while because of it. Once they reversed the change it's pretty well-liked again. And yeah, Marathon doesn't seem to be generating much hype. I also hate saying "never," but I'm cautiously pessimistic about the future of Destiny 2. Hopefully, Bungie can prove me wrong! I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.
if crafting is a perfect system(it is, no arguement) then enhancing is like the beta version of crafting. armor crafting was the next step and all they had to do for that was make stat points into a singular pool then allow you to dispense them as you choose. how come warframe survives and all of its weapons are craftable? red border hunt meant time was respected.
