a connection between Maya & the Black Garden existed since a D1 grimoire card "The Undying Mind"; it's flavor text says: "We are starting to believe that time is home to the Vex, and somewhere in those unmappable voids dwell their undying minds." - Maya Sundaresh, Fragmented Entry 10938, Ishtar Collective Archive On the card, Ikora mentions they just started to match their intel on the Black Garden with the fragmented data from the Archive etc. Furthermore, I believe the entirety of the Aspect lore book became relevant now. The book itself is pretty much a back-&-forth between the Sol Divisive in the Black Garden, & Praedyth + Ishtar crew in the VoG. Towards the end, the narration implies that both sides are waiting for a specific time window. The book also reveals that all other Vex are hostile towards the Sol Divisive. My theory is, we're getting hints at what happens after the conclusion of the Final Shape: I believe there will be a "Vex civil war" during the "Echoes" episode, basically Sol Divisive vs the rest of the Vex, & this might be where we finally interact with Praedyth & the Ishtar crew from the VoG, as well as the friendly Vex. "Echoes" in Destiny lexicon also shares similar meaning to "copies".
I'm still holding out hope that Asher Mir is still out there in the Vex Network, torn into pieces but with the assistance of friendly Vex, could not only be brought back, but could be our character-representative for friendly Vex in the same way we have Mithrax, Caitl, and Savathun.
Ever since D1 the Vex and The Nine interested me the most. Both have been touched the least in the story. So I’m hype af to finally get some Vex stuff again. Still feels weird af how we’re reaching the end of all things in the story and the nine is *checks notes* untouched since end of shadowkeep.

I kno you’re saying maya is likely the vex villain, but honestly, the vex were more scary/mysterious when they were more unknown and didn’t have any beginning or end… Just like how the darkness was perceived originally…. If bungie could somehow get back to that unknown feeling and have the vex be an unknown quantity & make them seem a bigger threat than the witness/darkness… destiny would retain/regain that feeling of mystery it once had years ago in D1. That’s what we need.
really enjoyed the video! havent been very attentive when playing the game despite loving the universe. having these theories get me excited for post final shape content
So the ishtar collective is important being in the black garden. The ishtar collective released 227 copies of themselves into the vex network. They also met praedyth and with him they tried to escape into reality. Now much speculation about if they escaped but now knowing about the power of whims, taranis granting wishes/bones communicating with others there could have been an interaction. Directly or indirectly. From Chioma wishing to see Maya or praedyth making wishes to continue the hunt or escaping. Imagine wishing for things and not knowing about magic in the air. Imagine being a scientist and having unlimited time to study magic? The possibilities are endless depending on what bungie cooks up about reality of the scientists inside or outside of our reality/ the network.
We will get IO back (probably not fully but how Titan is now), and Asher Mir will be our guide like how Sloan was. At least, that's my guess moving forward. I hope Asher does play a role in it at least, he was one of the best npcs in my opinion
Huh, that idea about Maya being a vex leader is probably the single most gripping idea about the vex and how to turn them into morally significant bad guys as opposed to these "heartless" things that just do what they do
I really dig the idea of Maya being a figure head for The Vex. Saw some theories that "The Ishtar Collective created The Vex" and that, while being an interesting twist with time tomfoolery, it would contradict the Vex origins in "The Unveiling" lore book. Great video as always mai gai.
Maya has always been interesting to me since D1. I hope you're on the nose with her being a villain! A human enemy is something that hasn't really been explored
My understanding of the lore with Praedyth is that they were guiding each other to meet up and when they finally did they were all revealed to be in Vex frames despite the fact that they didn't perceive themselves that way. Admittedly it's been years since I've read that lore and I could easily have misunderstood it. Keep doing you, Myelin! Good luck transitioning to variety content.
I remember, dialogues about the witness been uncapable of controlling the vex from within the traveller, and probably the are chasing the eggs by themselves. But maybe its already maya taking control?
Given that Echoes is vex themed, it’s very possible someone from the collective helped the vex or was involved in some way. I.E: Maya or praedyth. Bungie has been setting up the episodes all season so it’s probably just that; a set up.
I remeber older mission where cayde was inside the vex circuit trapped on nessus . Then we shoot vex and ghost asks :Are these the vex we are lookin for , a little star wars joke, for me it was funny
Alright, I'm about halfway in (great and unique ad read!) but my thoughts are that Maya made a deal with Taranis to make the Veil device work without killing her.
I miss the days of 2014 patrolling in Old Russia, back when the lore was so much less convoluted and frankly the simplicity just made it more interesting. Nowadays everything is either getting retconned back and forth or just spiraling into a deeper rabbit hole like the sundaresh plot line.
I think it’s like a flag that Maya controls a part of the Vex network and is growing her control within it. Even reaching deep enough to the Black Garden as set up for the villain after The Witness
I’m leaning toward that the copies found a way out and the exit was in the black garden and this was a flag. We’ll probably get a “distress signal” from a version of praydeth, he’ll be the episode vendor. We’ll probably finally “push off the vex” after defeating the Maya-vex big boss. I really think this is the last year for major destiny content and they’re trying to close some stories. Episode 2 and will probably involve the Nine and the scorn and wrap everything else up: Eris and Savathun will have a shaky treaty, Caitl respects us and wants some Zavala D, Mithrax has the allied fallen and Eramis has anyone who wants to sail the cosmos, roll credits.
My head is spinning with all the possibilities. Like how Mara had her own wish dragon, did the researchers also with taranis? What was the intentions of finding eggs for the researchers? To have their own dragons? To keep safe? To hide them? Did they just want to explore the black garden? Also, love the ads! I look forward to watching them.
I think you are offbase about Maya being the Vex villain. The Veil Containment series implied Maya very likely put herself into Lakshmi-2's body opposed to simply copying herself. Its Chioma at the very end was straight up calling to Vex to meet up with one of Maya's Vex copies at the end of those messages. Chioma will be the Vex villain.
How about the Ishtar made a wish? And what happens when 2 wishes collide? Will both wishes get broken? Or granted. This could be a theory on how to break a wish like the curse on the dreaming city.
I was just thinking of something that could be huge and something they hinted at way back in vanilla destiny, at 5:56 when we see the names of the ishtar collective team names. Didn't the computer system/ ai that awakened when we entered the Ishtar archives on Venus refer to our Guardian as Doctor Shim? then our Ghost even comments that its weird that it thinks you're Doctor Shim. So I don't really think that we are actually Doctor Shim since he's canonically a human male. I don't think we'd be able to customize our character's race if we had an intended past as a person thats a human male. So what if this mission was merely hinting that Doctor Shim became a Guardian? I think Asher Mire or one of the first VOGstrike team members are the most likely candidates if this is true.
My prevailing theory is that the vex are of human origins and that we will eventually have a faction of vex that aligns with the coalition we’ve built with the Cabal, the Fallen and I think even some hive. I’d like to see Fynch eventually revive his Hive Knight and convince him to ally with the guardians.
I think personally Maya was attempting to steal an Ahamkara egg to attempt to allow the Vex to learn to simulate paracausality which is something they can’t do currently.

Maya is the Vex, the researchers are all Vex from the future, and in the final perfected Exo form, it's a paradox. In the end, they don't work for the Witness, but based on the have objectives that align. She might be a Vex might Hydra if she does become a boss. And the Back door idea is kinda busted since that gate at the end isn't a Vex type of gate. It's an Awoken portal gate that they use. Which is made from the magic Rivin and all the ahamkara all use. If anything that's the entrances to the lair that they use. They Vex tried to enter through that door but couldn't. I really hope that we get a real final Boss for the Vex and not a corrupted Lakshmi-Vex-Mind, because I feel that the Vex is a enemy type that even the Witness fears, because at anytime they could go back in time and wipe his people out.
