Elite Dangerous claims to be a game, which has many ships for different roles but all you actually need is a Krait MKII.

    PewPew - Corvette

I have at least one of all these ships. I prefer my cutter for trading as I find it easier to get it through the mail slot than a T9. Something I learned while flying the T9's through the mail slot is that it is way easier to do with something marking the center-line of your ship, like having the comp. scanner active. This is especially helpful if you are using a head tracker to look around. I prefer the Diamondback Explorer or the Asp Explorer for exploration because you can find a place to land them way faster than trying to find a place to land an Anaconda. Many of the biological specimens are found only in the hills where it is extremely difficult to land a large ship. I like the Krait MKII for npc and thargoid combat. I like the Diamondback Explorer as my bubble shuttle because I have a 70 ly jump range on it.

Cobra MK III, Clipper or Krait for piracy. Challanger, FDL or Corvette for PVP/PVE. Krait Phantom for exploration and using the Neutron Highway as well as grinding mats or guardian stuff.

  • @OmegaPaladin144

When I was starting the game, the first ship I bought was a Cobra III. The Cobra is a fun ship that can do a little of everything, and it's a nice link back to the original Elite game back in the 80s. You can earn enough to get a Cobra without leaving the newbie zone. I was going heavily into mining, so I bought a keelback - keelbacks are really, really good for mining, although not much else. Next up, I bought an Asp Explorer, which can mine well and is pretty versatile - it is not my favorite exploration ship, but it is very good there. The Python is the best mining ship, and probably the best all-around ship for mining or trading, even some passenger runs.

I find the keelback makes a great odyssey dropship, stick in an SRV bay with a scorpion and you can take a teammate into ground settlement CZ's with easy access in and out to re-instance when the mission's over.

My preferred gameplay is to use the smallest ship that can do the task at hand with ease. I have large ships but they get little use. The smaller ships are so much nicer to fly. I use the Dolphin as a "Bubble bus" and a DBX for exploration. The glorious Python is a great ship and can often do "big ship work". I like the large choice of ships. They are all have different capabillities and unique sound. A good thought provoking video, thanks.

Combat fitted Krait MkII is my daily driver, has respectable jump range, and can do anything well. I have dedicated ships for most tasks (when I need to grind out a bunch of task specific progress)

  • @tommyleisy863
    @tommyleisy863 Год назад +2

I personally run 2 accounts, and have tried different ships for all the roles you have mentioned. One primary account and one basic account that I have used to start over from the beginning since I remember how fun earning your way through the game was several years ago. This also allows me to travel with my squad mates and still have the ability to play in the bubble if I get bored.
Daily driver: I agree that the "Taxi" is a must and I have used the DBX, Dolphin, Type-6, and even an imperial courier but, it was only because it was a free ship I earned in a CG way back.
Exploration: I agree with all 3 you mentioned however, I am currently joining a squad mate in long distance exploration in an Orca. It's not the best jump range, but it can hold all the extras you need when traveling, like 2 AMFUs for FSD repairs after boost jumping.
Mining: I have used many ships and I agree that the Python is at least top 5 of my preferred mining ships. I usually stick to laser mining in a large ship, such as an Anaconda, Corvette, and even my Cutter, but the Python is the best ship to mine everything. Though I've used other med ships, the Python has the best core and optional internals and cargo space.
Combat: That's a difficult decision. Combat is absolutely my favorite activity to do in Elite in all forms. Bounty hunting, Thargoid killing, or even the occasional pirating (which I am terrible at). I'd have to agree that the Chieftain is very fun for all these tasks, but I have many combat ships ranging from a Cobra 3 to a Corvette and they all have their pros and cons. I could give examples all day on what weapons, shields, and armor set ups to use and how many ships can perform better at long range or brawl up close and personal. This is commander's choice here I'd say so I won't dive to deep into that.
As for the "show off" ship, I'd have to say the Cutter, that is until you get a fleet carrier. The Cutter is my go to cargo ship because it is fast (though not agile) and heavily armed so I am able to defend myself and run away if needed. It was also my primary money grind ship that helped me and my squad mates purchase our fleet carriers.
Sorry this was so long, I just wanted to way in a bit with this subject. I enjoy and appreciate your content.

I love to make meme builds for PvE. Highly inefficient many times (not always), but super fun to play. Like an all bursts shieldless chieftain, an all cannons crusader with a fighter, all shotgun fed gunship, an all rails (hammers included) shieldless anaconda, an all shock cannons viper MK 3, an all rails eagle, an all beams Diamond back scout...
It's so stupid that is fun AF lol.
I couldn't find a satisfying build for the dropship though. I can't stand that ship, although they say it's a decent substitute for the DB explorer if you like its looks and the tanky snail-like maneuverability.

Explorer. Anaconda 83 ly. Shields and 2 srvs (76 with fighter Hangar on). I also have a dbx (my first ever ship) that is parked at ay indi when I'm in the black and have to suicidewinder)
Mining: cutter. Can do laser and core mining and LOVE the challenge of avoiding asteroids with FA Off with an actual behemoth like that.
    Racing: I have viper mk 3 (932m/s), eagle (809m/s).
Show off ? Don't have it but it would be my 6 clippers my favourite ship in the game.

If I could have only 5 ships, it would be: 1. Phantom: Exploration, landing on planets with an SRV. 2. Python: Combat and gathering mats in combat/High Grade Emissions. 3. Python: Dedicated Laser Miner. 4. Python: Dedicated Robigo Runs Pax Missions. 5. Anaconda: Trade and if needs be refit for long range travel/exploration. None of them are behind a rank wall. I do prefer the smaller ships for combat. The Vulture and even the Eagle. If I must, I go up to the Python to gather material while in combat but I can turn up in the Corvette with fighter crew. Currently I am cutting about in a Courier engineered to the max for getting around and landing on planets in or near the bubble. I only switch to the Phantom if it is a long way out, Guardian Sites etc. Very rarely do I break out the JumpaConda. My carrier largely stays static 1/3 of the way between Ray Gateway and Jameson Memorial. If I really want to trade in safety, it's the Cutter.

For shuttling around and doing stuff in the Bubble, the Dolphin equiped to do rescue, material farming, settlement stuff (two SRVs, one of each), and a dumb fire missile rack to rain death on on foot hostiles. It also has a great view.
Exploring is sort of complicated. I have a DBX, Asp, and Phantom. The DBX is one of my newest ships and i wonder why i skipped it years ago on the way up. It is also my go-to for biological exploration.
Mining is done in several ships: Python, Clipper, Type 7, or Cutter. The Cutter is set to mine ANYTHING. It's not always ideal, but you canjust do whatever you want in it that way witjout changing out modules. The Type 7 is terrible but i love the view and capacity, plus you can't be in a hurry no matter what!
For combat I have 4 ships: Krait mkII, Cutter, Type 10, and Viper mkIII. I am just finishing up an Anaconda anti-Thargoid build that i haven't tried out yet. The Krait is probably my favorite, with the Corvette set up to shred pirates for materials. I am learning to really enjoy the Viper as it is a new addition.
To show off? Cutter or Corvette. I just wish your rank would show up as well. I'd much prefer "Prince Tavis" to commander!

Krait Phantom: Pre-Colonia fully equipped exploration ship (no weapons) [Earned Exploration Elite, is my daily driver.]
Python: Medium transport, medium passenger, and both laser and deep core mining (heavily engineered, general purpose) [Earned Imperial and Federal rank in this ship via passenger rescue missions from stations in early Thar. storyline.]
Type 10 Defender: Heavily engineered, turreted long range beam & pulse weapons, PvE combat ship. [Working on Combat Elite and credit farming.]
Anaconda: Purchased, to be my long range exploration ship for first trip to Colonia & first true large transport ship. (Not equipped yet.)
(To be purchased) Imperial Cutter: Cargo vessel.
Of course, its been a couple of years since played. Plan to get back into it soon to continue the process.

    1) Imperial Courier to move myself around.
    2) Fleet Carrier as an explorer's base of operations with Vista Genomics and Universal Cartographics offices and several smaller ships configured as explorer shuttles: Sidewinder, DBE, AspExp, Anaconda, each for different range of operations.
    3) Type10 as a mining platform, equipped for any mining task possible.
    4) FDL and Anaconda as combat vessels.
    5) Clipper and Cutter, although I've never really used them.

as a noob, I shall give a list of specific ships to get for each of these categories for fellow noobs.
daily driver: asp explorer. (though really anything works)
exploration: asp explorer. (though really anything works, notable alternative ships are DBX, krait phantom, krait mk II (maybe?), anaconda, and dolphin)
mining: asp explorer. (though most other ships will work, you will likely want a few hardpoints and a good amount of storage space)
combat: asp explorer. (other ships could be the federal corvette, anaconda (ish), fer-de-lance, and probably more that idk about because I avoid combat like the plague)
the rich ship: asp explorer. hear me out on this, it's a thing in real life that rich people don't look rich, because if you spend all your money on a suit that looks like John Wick you won't have any money leftover. so rich people stick with simpler outfits. Elon Musk is a good example of that. other alternatives are the ships seen above, and if you want an expensive ship instead of a rich ship, there's really no other option than the maxed-out fleet carrier. put a 900m/s ship on it too if you want a bit of fun

The Clipper is one of the most fatally flawed ships in the game. The hardpoints are poorly placed, and very lackluster for a large ship. The large size means you can't land on platforms, putting many missions (especially faction grinders) out of reach. It lacks the internal compartments typical of a large ship, meaning it isn't great for cargo/mining/passengers.
It sure is a blast to fly though. Especially with a little engineering. I use it mostly for checking out emissions, and gathering their materials. A limpet controller, and a hold of limpets will help really clean up those sites.

      @tommyleisy863 Год назад

I love the Clipper as well! Fast, agile, decent internals though could be better. I love it as a mining ship, occasionally for cargo, and especially for combat. I run large gimbled frags and Pack Hounds so weapon convergence is really no issue. I've seen a full frag build too that is fun, just isn't as effective against the very few ships that can out run you. This is why I like to keep something with decent range like missiles to finish off those targets before they get away.

2:58 Not true. Combat is not compulsory for engineering materials. You can farm high grade emission points for materials and trade down at material traders for whatever you need, it is more efficient as well. Personally, I find mining mind-numbingly boring and would rather do passenger missions from Robigo-Sothis for greater credits per hour (20-25 million every 10 minutes, so about 120 to 150 million an hour). To each their own though.
Some constructive criticism about the channel, the guides are rudimentary and players will rapidly out-grow the tips and tricks you cover. It would help if you could go into more advanced topics as well as have a broader scope. I know you love mining, but it gets a bit old to hear about mining almost every video. If you really want to focus on mining, how about videos on optimised prospecting and mining techniques. For example, commanders with bad technique will take 4 to 5 hours to fill an imperial cutter with platinum, whereas commanders with good technique can fill up on 512 tons of platinum in about an hour and a half. Similar with core and sub-surface mining, try to cover good and bad mining techniques. It would help to describe the thought process for each as well.
If you want to talk about exploration and exobiology, cover more techniques such as landing on high G worlds properly, what to look out for in the surface scanner, landing at specific coordinates (lat and long) for planets and moons, etc.
It's really the limited content (you cover basics only) that stop me from subscribing.

Now, I own all of the ships in Elite except the Cobra IV. There are some not-as-common ships worth looking at:
Dolphin - fast explorer with insanely low heat. This ship could fuel scoop a hypergiant without issues. I managed to sneak into a thargoid invasion system without incident using an exploration dolphin. Plus, the boost sounds like a dolphin!
Viper IV - The Space A-10. Take this in loaded with unguided missiles and you can do airstrikes on hostile settlements or survive a hostile landing.
Imperial Courier - a fun little combat ship, with surprisingly good shields for its size. Also can use enhanced performance thrusters. This ship is a blast for exobio or or missions involving lots of surface landings.
Imperial Clipper - not well optimized for any one role, but always fun to fly. I like using it for exploration and core mining - it lets you zoom around the asteroid field looking for targets.
Federal Dropship - it has a surprisingly low heat level, and has enough armor to handle hostile landings on enemy settlements.

I restarted a couple of weeks ago and since I'm pretending to be poor for fiscal reasons, 🧐 I'm flying a Type-6, with partly engineered FSD, for exploring and getting around and a Type-7 for transport and as a hospital ship for evac missions.
But I agree with most of your recommendations with some comments
Getting around & exploration: DBX for sure, but it has the interior of a tractor. The Dolphin means you'll be getting around in style and can also be used for exploration. Early on when strapped for cash, the Type-6 performs about the same as the Dolphin.
Mining: the Python _can_ be equipped for laser and deep core mining simultaneously. However, I hate the Python with a passion as I'm convinced ED would be a better game without it. The Phantom can be used for exploration and mining, especially when flown from an FC.
Fighting: Vulture with an engineered powerplant is much cheaper than the Chieftain. But if you have the cash, Chieftain for sure.
Bulk trading and (un)loading FC: Type-9 obviously.
Luxury yacht: Anaconda, avoiding the imperial and Federal grind. If style trumps function, look at the Beluga Liner.
