Alan, Thanks for showing us your visit to Wolf's Lair from a couple of years ago. Very interesting but can't have been much fun for you in the company of that obnoxious person we hear in the film! Anyway do take care and thanks for your regular contributions.
You did a very good job with your narrative. I am watching this on the evening of July 20,2012, 68 years after the attempt on the life of Hitler. Thankyou for a job well done.
The picture is not allowed to be displayed publicly as far as I am aware. The buildings were not destroyed as many can still be seen, indeed I have filmed them in Nuremburg and Munich.
He may have evaded military service for a while, but like it or not, in the end managed to get an Iron Cross Class 2, and the much less common Iron Cross Class 1, which in WW1 tended to be awarded mainly to officers and NCO's - rarely corporals.
Can't believe I started to follow you because of my interest in the technicalities of mobile living, yet here I am totally transfixed finding that you have also made absolutely fascinating videos (and great quality) of your WW2 Third Reich site visits, as well as interviews with the obsequious sycophant (joke) David Irving. This is all too much - I only wanted to look at monocrystallines! How do you come to know (or vice-versa) that fluffy old people-pleaser Irving anyway?
Great vid. I plan on visiting in early 2011. Is there a bus or something that will take you here? I plan on doing a Euro trip. My plan was to land in Warsaw, then go to Ketrzyn from there i was planning on going to Wolfs Lair. After that i plan on going to Krakow to go to Auschwits. Then on to the rest of my trip to Ireland. These 2 sites are a must. Any advise you could give me? Thanks in advance.
I saw a TV show that featured the Wolf's Lair I think a couple years ago and they can take pictures with a MP40 and go on motorcycle tours, do they still have that now?
i thought i read somewhere that his assistant was actually in the room briefly, anyways what an excellant way to point out his cowardice and hyporcacy.
@@operaticcat1892 You do realise that those primary sources you cite have roundly been shown to be fabricated either by the Nazis or intentionally misinterpreted by David Irving. He's a disgrace of a historian
Tho you cite the reason for Hitler's survival as there only being one bomb. That may be true, but also the conference was moved from the bunker into a nearby hut, because of the heat, and all the windows were open; thus the impact of the blast was diffused.
The video was interesting, but there doesn't seem to be much left of the buildings and bunkers that made up "Wolfs Lair". There doesn't seem to be much to see their.Hitler was not a coward. He fought bravely during the First World War. Perhaps he felt that it was vital for him to be protected because the outcome of the war depended on his safety.
@jessejamesseneca Kraków and Auschwitz, you can take the train no problem. I do not know how to get to the Wolf's Lair by public transport although there are tours from Warsaw and other places. Maybe to Kętrzyn by bus then taxi - I don't really know.
Alan, your life is pretty good! I so want to see the Nuremberg rally grounds, the site of the Berghof, the Wolf's Lair you are at here, and so many other Third Reich sites. I'm not in the same flush way as you(!) but have converted my Transit to a camper with all facilities and am nearly ready to roll. What is so sad is that things like the Fuhrerbunker were treated so appallingly as though destroying them would wipe the slate clean. Have you read Traudl Junge's book Downfall?
@alanheath3 You make good pointsand I am not praising Hitler in any way. He felt that he needed to be protected because he felt that providence had chosen him as being the only one who could lead Germany to victory, If he died,In his mind, Germany would have collapsed. This was his thinking.I see your point about his insistance that his soldiers fight regardless of the situation. Stalingrad is an excellent example of this. I wish someone had told him this when he was going to commit suicide.
I wasn't going to be rude and say that but that's what I was thinking. lol Besides all that drama, I thought that the video was good and your insights into the cowardice of Hitler were spot on.
@Tony63909 Hitler may have fought bravely in WW1 but his actions in WW2 showed extreme cowardice. He hid in a bomb proof shelter while millions of Germans were subject to bombing and fire storms, he insisted that soldiers stand at fight in ridiculous positions while he fled the moment tanks a long way off were even mentioned at Zaporozhde in 1943, he did not have the guts to see bombed out areas like Churchill and instead of fighting in Berlin, he opted for the cowards way out!
When I asked 8 months ago did you go to the Wolf's Lair with David Irving, I was joking, as it just seemed to be someone who sounded like him. But I've just watched your video at the Red House with David Irving. I was going to ask what on earth are you doing travelling around Europe with that old, irascible, and very bad-tempered Nazi apologist - as you don't seem to share any of his views - but actually it's quite clever. How did you get him to take part?
@michael112254 This was destroyed by the retreating Germans although the weather has taken its toll since. On this day there were Germans visitors although of course most were Polish! I agree that both Communists and Nazis are cut from the same cloth!
thats what i mean, id like to know what the idiot who thought it was a cowardly thing to do wouldev done. chances are that he would have done nothing. And yes, a bomb at either end would have most likely killed everyone.....its just that that damn massive table was in the way.
@mufflejoy Send me a camera with stablisation then this problem won't reoccur. People who complain at videos never have any better ones of their own. I am convinced that you are no exception.
And still the Vienna Academy of Art rejected him. And then he went on to start World War II. The Vienna Academy of Art has a lot to answer for, if you ask me
Alan Heath; you have British accent and 4 years ago you wrote "I am not a Nazi and I respect life - unlike Hitler". You fathers killed over 5 million Germans (including 300,000 civilians in Dresden) after Germany surrendered. Is this the sign of respect for life? Who are you kidding Mr Churchill?
Alan,
Thanks for showing us your visit to Wolf's Lair from a couple of years ago. Very interesting but can't have been much fun for you in the company of that obnoxious person we hear in the film! Anyway do take care and thanks for your regular contributions.
Thanks Tom - I am thinking of going back next month!
Three of my favourite films there!
Incredible. Thank you for sharing!

Very interesting video, thank you for posting it!
@Lemonhead86 No problem at all. No parts are cordoned off because of mines, although there are warnings that the masonry could be unsafe.
The film is called 'Valkyrie' with Tom Cruise as Colonel Stauffenberg
Thanks for sharing. I've always been fascinated with the dark history behind WWII and being I'm in the States your video was very helpful.
I was in there. In bunkers was very cold and wet. Great video.

Very interesting; and what a beautiful place!

@zajo009 There are people hanging around the car park offering to be guides and I am sure you can get one from the information desk too.
I still have not received a camera from you. Maybe it got lost in the post?

Yes, that is him bickering in the background.

I hope you get your camera - let us know when it arrives!
I had to put up with this constantly for several days. You might be interested also in my history group on facebook - the address is above!

was there just sections of bunkers on a main platform or were they actually split off from each other?
Great video
enjoyed it
I like Beevor's book on Stalingrad too but in my opinion his best work is that on the Battle for Berlin!
What cash? The cash to get into the exhibit? It costs a couple of euros - I occassionally work so my finances just managed to stretch that far.
Is that person talking off camera a friend of yours?
Do you know the name of the film? i want to check it out.
Did you go with David Irving?

and what a painter - he could do an entire flat in one afternoon - two coats!
you decided to wait 2 minutes to see if this video got any better?

The Germans don't forget history!
i know they cleared land mines almost 50 years ago but is it safe to visit on ones own?
i meant to say that he should have had the Lt. that was with him place another bomb in a different place. how would that have to been possible?
