probably the operation 9*1/9 = 0.999999 because the calculation was not done in california
^this guy
Lol. True.

@@lucasng4712 No. 1/9 = 0.11111111.... So 0.111111111... * 9 = 0.9999999999... The calculator is actually correct.
Though this is very funny; I actually owned a similar model about 20 years ago when I started in anesthesia practice. It was very useful to calculate dosages of medicine for pediatric patients (where one needs to be more precise than in adult sized people). I felt very "state of the art" having a calculator handy on my wrist and used it frequently. Since medical professionals have to have their Tuberculosis status checked each year, I even used the alarm to remind me when to have my skin test read by a hospital nurse to clear me for soundness to continue practicing.
Yeah I had one 20 years ago too! It made the other kids in kindergarten very jealous :D
I love the humor and satire in this.
''it says it's in a 1 to 1 ratio - as most most physical object tend to be'' brilliant :D
+Ultimate Toppa But theres something thats a real physical object that isn't a 1:1 ratio. Answer below =)
+Jamie Stirzaker A TARDIS, an infinity:1 ratio
+Ultimate Toppa HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
most physical objects tend to be 1:1 scale LOL
+Mik Wind All phyiscal objects tend to be 1:1 scale
***** What?
***** What?
quasi doesn't so it's kinda anti-matter
people used science....now confused pawl is confused...it's super effective.....
if you had one of these as a kid back in the 80s your nerd cred was incalculable
i had *two* of them (not joking, lol...). but i remember one of them not having buttons like that, but having a sort of grid that you press on instead.
If you have one now your nerd cred is incalculable!
OMG i used to have this same exact model back in high school in the late 80's.
Used to store a bunch of phone numbers and birthdays in it, oh and as a quick calculator too.
I remember the keypad membrane fading after a while, the wristband cracked after about a year, guess it wasn't UV stabilized well enough, I had to guess the numbers after a while... but great memories :)
Oh it had a hidden cellphone build in too ... nah it didn't, but I sure wish it did... tsk tsk
My parents didn’t want to buy me one when I was a school kid. But now I am in my 40s, I’m a grown-up, I have a job, and I totally bought one!
I had this watch in the 80's, wore the buttons down I used it so much. Of course, being a nerd then didn't do me any favors.
I know these videos aren't exactly educational, but they're some of my favourite you've ever done.
i think you accidentally typed a u
Jamez Martinez Sorru?
John Reynolds favourite is favorite
Jamez Martinez Oh right. I'm British, so it's spelled with a 'u' here.
John Reynolds U here? No, there!
I like that there is a 1:1 ratio of the position of the watch relative to the position of your wrist. I hate watches that don't do that!!
What about the watches who's position is at a 1:1 ratio with the position of your pocket?
Some people like those more for some reason.
"Matt is a trained professional
Amateur mathematicians should use the instructions"
Excellent advice there for all us budding young calculator fanciers.
"It also doubles as a tourniquet."
Hahaha!
"Matt is a trained professional. Amateur mathematicians should use the instructions."
Oh my goodness. This is awesome!
"Or cooking meh amphetamine" It get's better!
Can it share a calculation to facebook?
- Hey, your friend just calculated the sum of 7+5!
- Hm, good for him, Like! :D
It could be used to teach kids how computers work, although I doubt Casio would allow it...

No one cares about that! What's really important is if it can run Linux
who else here has that exact same casio scientific calculator?
noswonky dew
"Which gives us a grand total of infinity, and an average of... Infinity" favourite part
Love the sarcasm
It's beautiful
Glad to see that Numberphile is discovering the proper tools for serious mathematics.
This was FAR too intense for me.
Hey! That's not fair! The accuracy should be 10, the only reason it isn't accurate while you use it is because you're using it at England which is far away from California 1:57
I had used this watch for two years during school, math teachers never figured it out.
Even if they caught you, at least you gave it a *shake*
😂
Hahaha
Same
_In fact most physical objects tend to be a 1x1 scale_
Didn't ***** get one of these?
I did!
Matt Parker is an unboxing master. The attention to detail is hilarious.
I owned one... just because I love buttons.. I really love buttons.. hmmm just going to watch a 747 cockpit landing video.. again, that is how much i love buttons
I feel ya man, I feel ya.
really?
Found the button fetishist
did you love buttons so much that you like and sub?
That 1:1 scale comment of yours killed me xD
This is my favourite series of videos on Numberphile.
Wow! They still have the Data Bank watches. I bought my first Casio Data Bank at a Sharper Image in Denver Colorado in 1984. It had a phone book, schedule, calculator... It was totally awesome!
"For California Use Only" Apparently there is proof that California calculates differently!
Chris Mckay, one could argue that it would not be fair to expect the producing company to verify compliance with the effective rules of addition under every single jurisdiction in known existence.
I thought it was limited to indiana ...but it is spreading.
For some reason, California requires warnings on everything hence the Green Day (Kinks riff) song. Certainly the only place where I've seen warning labels along the biscuit and crisps aisle at the supermarket!
I guess the extra leaflet is in there to comply with some Californian requirement about labelling potentially toxic plastics or batteries or what not.
Wait. A proper bank stores my moneys, and lets other people borrow it when i'm not looking.
This is a data bank. What is it going to do with my datas while i'm not looking? I'll try not to blink.
Siana Gearz gotta be careful of the datas my man,
I remember the one with the remote control. I used to mess around with my school's air conditioning and the TVs in the shops.
"Most psycial objects tend to be 1:1"
Hahaha, this made my day.
Probably not something you want to be hearing but these are some of the best videos you've done.
When I saw these videos in the sub box I got way more excite than I should have.
Matt Parker. You are my hero! What an incredible enthusiasm and delicate sense of humor. Top entertainment mixed with a lot of useful information.
It simply doesn't get much better than this!
"Matt is a trained professional.
Amateur mathematicians should use the instructions."
LOL :p
Your style of humour is perfect for me! You can make the most boring topic hilarious with your dry wit, brilliant!
This was definitely a comedic bit
Nice watch, brings back a lot of memories...1988 was a Casio era.
I had a similar CASIO in highschool back in the 90s. Until one day a friend asked to "borrow it for a second", only to find him rubbing the screen with a big battery. That was the end of that.
..What happened to the screen?
Man, I've warn this watch every day for 17 years and I love it! Love the review, very funny. I'm always going to think: "why isn't that alarm going off", when I'm in the shower!
This really does give the wearer infinite street credibility
Incredibly valuable for cheating on tests!.. Not that I would know anything about that...
Fester Blats I don't know about you, but not so for my school
Wait until you get a bit older. They don't expect you to remember sqrt(7^2 + 3^2 + 2 * 7 * 3 * cos(5° 39' 54")) :)
+Victor Tran cosine 5 degrees, 39 feet 54 inches? What does that mean?
Knightofmines Cosine 5 degrees, 39 minutes 54 seconds. Minutes and seconds carry when they reach 60 :)
I don't live in an imperial measuring country so I didn't see that in my mind when I first saw it :P
I guess that's the fault of my country's measuring system.
Yup, I was an 80's geek.
These unboxing videos are quickly becoming my favourite thing Matt has done!
2 minutes in and the humor was still so subtle i was still wondering if he was taking the piss, or maybe im hearing things. Then he put the calculator on his wrist...
he got me until he said the calculator will give incorrect answers outside of California. After that it got just too strange :D
this dude is such a memer
This watch is great! I've had the same one for years and it's so helpful.
Matt, gotta be honest. I wasn't going to watch the whole video, but you hooked me with your "examination" of the "watch stand"...
And then, your "analysis" of how they "crammed" the instruction book into the "watch stand"...
Great video!
Lol!! 😃
You spilled your imaginary drink at 3:30
LOL
I owned one of those in the 90s. damn those buttons were hard to press.
I love these videos so much! Thanks Numberphile. Happy Holidays
One of the best unboxings I've seen. Great job!
Do a TI-83/84/89
I had one of these about 10 years ago, it was the absolute shit back then...
Matt Parker's humor is wonderful. Love these videos!
Yes! I have been waiting for another one of these. Great job guys!
It could had been a musical keyboard
Or a casio ripoff of apples mactini nano
Total of infinity, and then cred was turned up to 11!
Thanks! I love these unboxing / review videos, makes me laugh so good every time.
The one and only time on youtube that I wish I could like more than once. The dialog is genius.
I thought this was a great idea, but then I noticed that a calculator on your watch is a pain in the ass to use.
Great unboxing! I have been looking for a calculator watch to use for cooking methamphetamine.
I love your unboxing videos. Always makes me laugh. Good stuff.
Your other videos are informattive, but these are just fun
I love this unbox review! Fantastic!
I had one of these back in my school times and I was the geekiest kind on the block! LoL
I love these videos! Hilarious! :D
This is tthe most literal unboxing I've ever watched. I love it.
I have to admit this is really entertaining. Keep them coming Matt! I'm certain I'm not the only one that likes your type of humor!
most things in real life tend to be a 1:1 ratio lol.
Im wearing that exact model of watch while watching this.
I loved these 2 unboxing videos, please do more!
That water splash! LOL!
An iconic piece of technology, mathematics, and horology all in one.
This kills me. Truly hilarious.
a wristwatch's alarm is the epitome of anxiety in my mind
Brady should make videos of Matt unboxing EVERYTHING in the world.
This was the funniest video I've seen in a while! Side splitting!
I bought one of these a year ago just to have because I had owned one ten years previously.
You can always use duct tape to hold that big calculator to your wrist!
Love the HD widescreen version of the instruction manual!
One question: HAS ANYONE EVER USED THE STOP WATCH FUNCTION ON THERE WATCHES OR EARLY CELL PHONES?
"HAS ANYONE EVER USED THE STOP WATCH FUNCTION?"
Runners do, of course; we would do "drag races" with the stop watch, as well as hitting stop without looking as a random number generator.
Awesome, you should be in advertising...I want one now..
I keep watching these expecting them to get old and done-to-death, but they remain hilarious. Well done.
These are getting even better, great work! :)
1/0=E
e=2.718...
Uppercase E is bigger than lowercase e. Seems accurate to me.
Mike Whitenton heuxb w hsnjw
This is hilarious! :D
i never thought calculator unboxings could be so funny. i've been watching all the videos and having a grand ol time
I didn't expect this to be so funny, but I enjoyed this quite a bit. Great video guys!
I'd like to see some slide-rule unboxings.
just hilarious...!
Love these calculator reviews! They are so funny!
Hilarious unboxing video. I had such a watch over 20 years ago
I love numbephile, but these "unboxing" videoes are just magical!
Is it water proof enough to with stand going to shower? Can someone one confirm this?
+DudewithBuds I threw mine in a pool to test it once. It still works. 10/10
***** Hm, would you recommend to do t for a long time in shower and still operate?
Come to think of it I have showered while wearing the watch and it operated fine afterwards. It says "water resist" right on it. Casio does not mess around.
***** I keep hearing that it can only with stand little water drops, but I have a watch that says WR and it can with stand the shower. I want to buy this for school but, I just want to know by first hand that the buttons wont be destroyed. Or in general, functions being broken.
***** 1 You think it can last over a long period of time with taking a shower 2 Is there a replacement strap?
Thanks, great humour.
And that laugh at the end cracked me up :)
_Two_ new unboxing videos? If you guys are running out of ideas, I can guarantee us viewers have got you covered. You need but ask.
I've just realized your'e that guy who commented in Computerphile and then I listened to the song and enjoyed writing this comment while listening.
Peleg Tsadok Yeah, I'm bitching everywhere ;) I must be slow though; what song?
Penny Lane Penny Lane by The Beatles.
Lol, where did you got your name from if not from the song?
Peleg Tsadok Ah ok, yeah I am slow. I was thinking of that other thread and couldn't remember anyone mentioning any music :)
when i was young i wanted one of those watches SOOOOO bad
Hah, who didn't?
Okay I know that's a silly question. Most people did not want this.
Matt Parker FTW! :D :D :D :D
brilliant ! Simply Brilliant video. awesome job Matt
I miss this kind of watch. I had one like this before when I was still in high school (back in the 90's) in the Philippines. Usually used this when we were doing groceries.
The credibility of normal calculators goes upt to 10, but this one, it goes up to 11. It's 1 more credible.
R0DisG0D For $2000 I'll build you one that goes up to 12.
I have an original one of these. Quite old, still works.
Think the strap was replaced at some point though.
My aunt gave me one of these back the 90's and i still use today with the rest of my collection love it....
lol great video! Only realized the trolling when he started balancing the normal calculator on his wrist XD
Can you start your own channel please this was very good
I don't like these new fangled calculators, how about an abacus unboxing for us old schoolers?
Agreed. Tech moves to fast these days (!)
Back in my day we didn't even use math. Only witches and gays did "calculations".
I have this watch and it's AWESOME! I can also verify that it attaches to your arm and moves as your wrist does.
this is the fourth calculator unboxing video in a row that i'm watching and they are hillarious!
