Fails to type in the sqrt(2) test correct. What a Parkersquare. xD
You mean a Parker Square Root.
sqrt(2) Parker Squared equals to 31.11!
Meegoo You have to say it ambiguously like this: "sqrt(2) squared is two. But if you Parker square it, you get 31.11..."
This is how subcultures and conspiring groups are formed: they know something no others do.
Hey, illuminati, freemasons and reptilians, you are outdated. Give way to the Circle of the Parker Square whose symbol is, of course, a triangle!
probably stolen from calcs to be "freely" distributed to people.
"Meth error" I died inside XD
I ran to show this yo my dad😂
In which case, you've had too much meth.
+The Ultimate Jailbreaker 1 Hello! No water-dumping required.
+standupmaths I will do the same if you read my email! hahaha
All the lul
0:19 "and they got this shit to me direct from the Gaxio warehouse"
he said shipped..
no ship
That's what I thought he said at first but after listening carefully it's actually Shipped :3 I don't think Matt could be this mean lol
Disaster Pepper either word works right?
Actually Matt multiplied Root 2 by 22 the first time, Gaxio is not known for shoddy worksmanship.
I should learn to trust the Gaxio.
Indeed! Gaxio also isn't known for plagiarizing.
Gaxio also isn't known for their herbal tea. Gaxio also isn't known for collecting old rubber bands.
Wait... Gaxio isn't known for anything!
In Gaxio we trust
A poor craftsman blames his tools.
Andrew Kay
Well spoken! :D
I cannot believe I just watched an entire calculator unboxing
Amateur. Watch them all!
Done. Now what shall I do with my life?
you said the same thing during the previous calculator unboxing videos too didn't you?
There's more :)
I cannot believe you haven't seen them all.
Someone should send Matt an abacus.
I'm waiting…
+standupmaths do you have a po box or anything like that? I could send one
How do you use the graphing feature on an abacus? I'm still stumped! Which beads are the axes?
+standupmaths color preference?
looooool
You typed sqrt(2)*22 which is indeed 31.11269837
exactly!
It was a parker square calculation
the best unboxing i've ever seen thanks matt!!!
+casper meewisse hahaha good one
2 the top
+standupmaths Matt, you need to put the Graxio in the microwave for 30 seconds to get rid of those pesky square root warm-up errors!
IT MUST BE DONE! :D
We need a sequel, NOW
It's almost like Matt's a stand up comedian or something xD
Nah, more like a +standupmaths - ametician ;)
You don't say.
+Neel Shukla thatsthejoke.jpg
+Mr Calligraphy you mean a methematician
Mr Calligraphy, Why do you have the Windows XP Bliss background with shulk's sword on the grass?
Dude the square root of 2 times 22 is 31.11269837
You typed it in wrong not the calculator
A good calculator never blames its owner!
The problem lies in that √2 is 1.414... and not 1.411... that the calculator returns, but when multiplied by 22, the result is the correct response for 1.414.... and not 1.411....
The calculator cannot calculate the root properly but recognises the sequence √2 * 22 and yielded the proper result.
I guess not only is the 5th digit not displaying properly, the same is happening on the 4th digit, so where it should have shown 4 it shows 1 - the same happened on sqrt(17) where it displayed 4.121... instead of 4.123. So a broken display. I guess as LCD displays are such bleeding edge technology, it's difficult to get it right ;)
The calculatior works as the others the only problem it has is the display, that 1 you are talking a about its a 4 but with missing segments.
you typed /2*22
which = 31.11
A top flight calculator should allow for this type of user error, don't you think?
Zje Hscop djpilf"
Are you advocating for type safe calculators, who produce a type error when you add reals and naturals?
I think it did, it just did it by showing the answer to that problem instead. Right?
Not just 31.11, but accurate for every decimal place on the display... minus the wonky 5th digit display, which could have gone wrong in shipping. (8 - 8^(8-8) for durability?)
8/8 would watch again.
Me, too! 3/8 (well, it's most of an eight ;) )
Sooooo... 5/7?
Dude 88 likes on this comment wow!
KWG Damn, that's beautiful.
Noah Topper 八 八 八 !!!
Wow. When I was in middle school, everyone owned a calculator identical to this one. 'Poor' kids got this Gaxio and 'rich' kids got the Casio. ¥15 and ¥50 were the prices. I remember there was a third option - Kasio, also ¥15.
dude, you are a mathematition! 8+8+8+8+8+8+8 is 888,888!
that's what I thought the answer was going to be.
He's a mathmatist. get some edumacation, dude!
+Bibek Gautam I think it is actually called Mathemater
Your are all idiots it is called MATHer(for males) and MOTHer(for females)
actually it's called a mathemagician.
But you typed in
Sqrt(2) * 22..
which indeed is (when rounded)
31.11269837
Yeah, I also noticed. I don't think it was intentional or was it ? I mean he scored it 8
But it was only half of the first 2, so really it should have equated to 16.9705...
+Nick Combs um no. It was multiplied by almost 1.5. 22x1.5=33 but the square root of 2 is a bit less than 1.5.
+Alex Jordan missed the joke
Exactly. This comment should be the top one. UP UP UP
I graduated Civil Engineering using this exact calculator during the whole course (5 years + 1 year exchange). Now I'm 1 year through my Master degree and I NEVER NEEDED TO CHANGE ITS BATTERY! It has fallen violently to the ground dozens of times and it still calculates perfectly ^^ I'm seriously considering putting it on a glass container and exhibiting it on my main room.
1:37 that plot twist though xD
I wonder what the sqrt(2) * 22 is? It's not like there's 5 top comments that tell me 🙄🙄
The screen showing only part of a number is an unique, innovative, power-saving feature that Casio have not thought of!!!
A Parker Square of calculators.
Very true.
turn on subs and go to 7:15
The subs are funky all the way through. Thanks for pointing it out!
😁
GAC CEO
Matt, you are absolutely mad. I love it. Congratulations, English culture and humour have obviously rubbed off on you. Happy Canada day!
I grew up watching a lot of British TV. Happy Canada Day to you as well!
+standupmaths Keeping Up Appearances and Last of the Summer Wine ? I got you covered.
+standupmaths well happy late Canada day and BC day :D
@@standupmaths Happy late Canada day, and hapoy Botswana Presidents' day
??
sqrt(17) is actually 4.123105626 not 4.121105626 but that's just a display error.
I was just checking that
Same for the first sqrt(2), where the correct digits should be 1.414.... instead of 1.411....
The right numbers are there, waiting for the user to discover them. The missing parts of the digits are the first breadcrumbs on the trail of the user's journey into the world of true calculation.
Try to open it, I think you'll find a Casio printed circuit...
Proof that Casio copied their name from the circuits of the *AMAZING* Gaxio.
Who would have thought that the casio would steal the circuits from Gaxio, truly horrible.
Exactly, Luke! :p :)
That is because Gaxio is all about ergonomic design and display technology. They outsource almost all their boards to 3rd party manufacturers. This is why when you want to get a really great Gaxio, you need to buy about two dozen of them, crack them all open and look for the ones with the true Gaxio circuit boards, those are the true gems.
G copy C!
This series is FANTASTIC!
Had to go back and watch all the episodes.
VERY informative.
One can only hope that someone, someday will make a calculator that can be used in a bin.
loving the blinking 8 at the scoreboard
i don't know how you simultaneously hilariously spoof unboxing videos whilst at the same time make the best unboxing videos iv'e ever seen. matt parker you legend
"this section has been removed for legal reasons" I think I fell out of my chair
4:13 You gotta give it to the calculator: You actually typed in "Ans * 22" and 31.11... is correct.
I don't know if it's exciting or sad that the high light of my day is a calculator unboxing video
Do you think this calculator is worth upgrading to from a ti-89?
Totally.
I personally have a TI-89 Plus Silver Edition, and I can tell you it is most definitely and absolutely, worth.
Joshua Jurgensmeier I already have the TI-89 titanium. I'm asking if I should upgrade to the Gaxio.
PointB1ank He is saying that it is worth the upgrade.
JoeMom Ah, I'm an idiot.
I was hoping you would say "most of an 8" and then the middle line would disappear making it a 0
This was really funny xD Loved it.
These are probably the funniest videos that numberphile does. I nearly died laughing for the length of that video. Matt Parker is incredible.
Glad you enjoy them! But I'll have you know calculator unboxing is a serious business.
What went into your decision of giving its cred an 8 may I ask, highly contentious result in the Calculator Community, forums have exploded in the last hour because of this. I can only speak for the Irish calculator scene, but here people can't get enough of the Gaxio, it's went double platinum in imports. People are digging the oriental feel to it and the hipster indie vibe only a Gaxio can bring
At first i was gonna say this was a bit of a Parker square of a calculator, but then it became clear that it is completely awesome.
Truly funny. Love the channel. Love watching your reactions to ridiculousness. Keep it up, keep them coming.
I know he did 22 instead of 2 but I did not notice that at first and it gave me a real laugh.
This is a parker square of calculator.... Tries hard but fails all the time
Hilarious unboxing like usual! One of my favorite lines: "It's got a real light kind of...you know...could go at any moment feel. I appreciate that dedication to efficiency in manufacturing."
* hasn't seen a numberphile calc unboxing in a while *
* forgot the guy likes to joke and be sarcastic *
* finally catches on halfway through the video *
it all makes sense now
loved the flickering digit on the Score screen :D
This is back in my recommendeds, no doubt due to Matt's existential crisis over the Casio in July, 2020.
I haven't watched a single second of the video, and I've already liked it.
Hooray for calculator unboxings! As a calculator fancier myself (and general Matt Parker fan), I always look forward to these videos!
Another epic unboxing video of a boring calculator made fun! Keep up!
This calculator actually resembles a different CASIO than the one you compared it too. I have an old CASIO calculator that works closer to that. Like with that root of 17.
That moment when it's 3 AM and you're watching a calculator unboxing video
It's not only similar to the one on the previous video, it's 100% identical, totally undistinguishable from the older version of the original fx-82.
I lost it with the meth error
on the first root 2 calculation he typed root 2 x 22, was laughing at his own incompetence. the gaxio is a brilliant bit of kit
Matt, this is your funniest video hands down. love it
Love the flickering 8 in the rating screen! Great touch.
I use the Casio FX-82MS for school.
FG-82MS
LuL
That was a classic parker square calculation
I always wait for these videos, I enjoy them so much XD
Finally a new video from a series I've subscribed for :D
Nice try, but you can't just simply take the chinese characters for 8, put three of them in succession and claim it's the same amount as 888.
I think it's part of the joke.
Vicvic W Well, putting the characters there is part for sure, but doing it incorrectly? Hm. Maybe. Just felt the need to nitpick on it :P
八百八十八
Illuminati comfrimed
because 8+8+8+8+8+8 is obviously 888
Why nunberphile doesn't make reviews for calculator apps?
Probably because calculator apps are so nineteen hundred.
it will cost quite a bit for the durability test
+oldcowbb 😂
I've seen a box in a box many times, but this is my first ever viewing of an unboxing inside an unboxing, that's one off the bucket list ;)
You broke me at "So that gives it a total score of 888" XD
4:09 Sorry, Matt looks like you Parker Squared the calculation.
Watching an unboxing video in an unboxing video in the box room of my house.
Hooray for the Droste Effect!
Nice! I never knew what that one was called :D
Drew a picture once, a metaphor for the vicious cycle of self-destructive behavior: Me tearing up a photo of me tearing up a photo of me t.... you get the idea^^
Now I know the name for it, thanks!
what is a box room?
Just a small room in a house.
This is the only channel where I would watch a calculator unboxing for its entirety.
Hands down one of the best series on youtube.
These are my favorite.
am i to be worried when my Casio fx-82MS looks EXACTLY LIKE the Gaxio fx-82MS
FG* Fx is not the original version.
Pedro Martins no it says fx. Btw i bought it in india. It has a registered trademark to casio
He is talking about the GAXIO it's FG not FX.
That means it is graphics calculator. The display shows graphical symbols that are neither numbers nor letters.
pramitbanerjee I think Gaxio copied the casio ones. So don't worry
thank you for all the laughs you provide we often forget to thanks people for that
the sarcasm 😆
im ded, best unboxing ever, you should do more
The first time you actually did sqrt(2) times 22... sorry.
sqrt(2)*22=31.1126983722
Anyways, brilliant video as always, made me laugh a lot.
what's that removed thing?
A joke
How can a joke be illegal?
Mystery to us all.
You almost heard it: Casio should expect an expensive action at law as soon as Gaxio is informed that their design is stolen. Obviously, Matt does not want to be involved at this early stage. Rather, he is going to be the expert witness in court due to his considerable experience in unboxing calculators and documented knowledge of square root of 2 in any colour and size.
He doesn't want to get sued by Casio for accusing them of copying Gaxio.
We need more of this series.
I love calculator unboxing videos, keep them coming!! :D
there is a possibility that the Gaxio is a Chinese knock off of a Casio and this video is a spoof
No way. This video is 888% legit.
7:28 八八八 is just three 8's placed next to one another, as in "eight-eight-eight". It looks like a phone number or something. If you want the number "eight hundred and eighty-eight", then you need to intersperse it with 百 (hundred) and 十 (ten) like so: 八百八十八.
well, tbh, I'm not entirely sure adding 8+8+8 would even amount to eight hundred and eighty-eight
I gotta say, first of all, it doesn't really matter. They weren't really going for accuracy, they were making a joke about 8's cultural significance in Chinese. That's why they "added" 8+8+8+8+8+8 to 888 not 48.
Second of all, I would be willing to place a bet that in Chinese 888 sometimes is in fact written 八八八. Now, I have not studied Chinese, but I have studied Japanese, which you should know uses the same numerals. And in Japanese, just like you suggest about Chinese, 888 could be written as 八百八十八 (happyaku hachijuu hachi), except this is like writing out "eight hundred and eighty eight" in English. You will almost never see this.
What you will very often see though, besides of course Arabic numerals, is something like 八八八. You often see this style in restaurant menus, for example. 800 yen might be 八〇〇円 and so forth. 888 yen would be a strange price, but my point is you can sometimes see numbers written with Chinese numerals that way.
Now, if you are a native Chinese speaker I will take you word for it that Chinese people don't use Hanzi numerals that way. But if you are just a learner, you might want to do some more research into it. I'd be interested to know myself if only the Japanese do this.
I love how he says "Made in China!" like its a rare and exotic place
This is probably the nerdiest thing that has ever graced my subscription feed, and every single channel is science of video game related.
Hey person scrolling through the comments section! Have a nice day!
+BAMB00STER4EVER edgy
Thanks! Nicest thing today. How's that for sad?
i agree with BAMB00STER4EVER.
thanks m8
Thanks
Some say Gaxio is made by aliens
Now _that's_ what I call outsourcing!
Some say Gaxio existed before the aliens who made it.
man that calculator is out of this world
I've never looked forward more to an unboxing video.
By far my favorite Numberphile videos!
U review calculators?! ...and I thought i was a nerd
I'm probably wrong but I'm getting the impression that you're not taking this calculator review entirely seriously.
Matt, how do you make calculator unboxings so hilarious?
I thought these were serious and nerdy in an uncomfortable until I watched it now. These are the bomb!
at 4:10 you did sqrt(2)*22 so it was right xD
Computerphile makes an interesting topic boring.
Numberphile? Takes the most boring thing ever and makes it hilarious!
Please upload more!! The world will spiral into decay without these awesome videos!!
0:37 Ooh, it got a rare print error on the back, that makes the item much more valuable! It should say "Come with slide-case hard on".
I just spent 7 minutes watching someone take a calculator out of a box and talk about it. What am I doing with my life?
All the right things.
There are more unboxings, watch them. They're awesome. Easily the best series from Numberphile
It sounds like you're watching calculator unboxing videos.
Long live G A X I O !!!!11!!!!!1!1!1
It's DOA, man...
I actually own one of those calculators. Had it when I was in high school and was still able to use it by the end of my 4th year in college. You can actually type in "cheat codes" to make the calculator do funny things.
please please please keep doing these they're hilarious lol
this comment has been removed for legal reasons
the score should be meth error
Putting wings on a calculator is a great idea! That way, it doesn't matter if you drop it! Great innovation there from Gaxio; the original, and still the best!
If you are one of the few who have wondered why the section at 2:53 has been removed, it can now be revealed. Mr. standupmaths had slipped in a subtle plug for his forthcoming Parker Square Kit, including this masterpiece Gaxio calculator, the calculator uniquely capable of producing the numbers within the illustrious magic square, and perhaps 4 dimensional Parker Squares with a little more time and effort.
was this meant to be sarcastic????
No, man, this is a very serious issue here on RUclips. People want to buy calculator, but there is not enough unboxing videos to show them what is best!!
***** I was talking about the calculator like it had a broken screen still they liked it!
Efficiency, it was all very clear in the video
Rohan Singh Yeah, I got that, I was trying to also be sarcastic :P
gaxio is by far the best calculator. Here in china, all top universities have gaxios. And, in fact, gaxio bought Casio many years ago, that's why they have similar models.
Not sure if gaxio copied Casio or vice versa
which one do you think looks more legit?
casio
I still have my Casio Fx991MS that got me through my engineering. still works like a charm after nearly a decade of purchase.
this was the funniest video I've seen in a while and it's not even april first
