That opening sequence contains the most epic Onewheel footage ever! And yes, the sensor on the front of my Onewheel Pint X SUCKS! I hope they fix that with the GT.
There is another video about it, I'm new and was experiencing the same issue but thought it was something I was doing wrong, I swapped to a cross trainer/running type shoe with a higher sole in favor of flat sole shoes and viola, problem solved!!
@@retrothruster2539 I'm with you. I find flat skateboard shoes to be the worse. I think because they work more like a plank, instead of contouring to the pads. And flat shoes distribute the weight, so you get less pounds per square inch on any spot of the sensor pads. Future motion in fact does not recommend young riders because of their lighter weight.
So glad to see the repeated mounts of shame aren't my fault. I'm sure some of them in the beginning were my fault but I still experience them regularly after 300 miles.
I sold my pint for the pint X, it was the perfect upgrade for me! I wanted more range and slightly more speed.... thats exactly what i got and im very happy!
Foot sensor issue that worked for me. I wear a size 13 shoe, I could not get them both to work consistently. I found that if you remove the thin plastic layer between the sensor and grip tape, if fixed my issue. No ghost riding issues either.
Great review! Yes, I have the same issue with the front sensor. I added 1” round felt pads (two around the toe area and two on the heel) and issue was resolved. I love my Pint X, but I just picked up an XR and intend to keep both. Each offers a unique experience and it’s nice to have a backup board if one goes down :)
Thanks for an in-depth and honest review. The pint x is definitely a mixed bag with some great improvements over the original, but at the same time retaining many of the same issues as well
I was decided in going for the Pint X for my first Onewheel. Now I have a lent Pint from a reseller here in Portugal and that little beast seams to be enough for my use. I’ll be testing the XR and Pint X in the following months and only then I’ll make my decision, but the standard Pint is being great! And of course another great video, Mario!
I have sensor issues on my original pint. Didn’t know this was an issue with the new pint x. Drives me bananas and shoe choice is the only thing that consistently works.
I was frustrated with the footpads sensitivity for the first like 3 days but furniture pads/stacking grip tape (as he mentioned) is a super simple fix that immediately made this a non-issue for me. 👍
@@dpcreativ let me just quickly add the furniture pads to my brand new $1600 device 🤣. Why can't they just come up with a design similar to EUCs that only relies on motor torque/weight placement?
Off topic. Can you do a video talking about the GT's 6.5 hub size? That's got me freaking out and frustrated. "Custom" tire my butt"! I don't want my board held hostage by FM.

Try the wood foot pads to help with sensor engagement. My brother got them for me as a gift for my original pint and I didn't realize how much more they act like the wood foot pads on my XR as far as reliability on engagement. Idk if the plastic compound FM used to make the pint foot pads is what's holding it back but i will say I had the same issue with my OG Pint and my Pint X when it came to the original foot pad. After trading it out with the wood pad I basically never have a problem and I almost always jump start my board.
Seeing your stance at the 7:40 mark, shows me why you might have sensor issues. You have majority of your foot on one sensor and part of your foot is hanging off and the weight displacement will mess with it. I have a PintX and have rarely had sensor issues and wear multiple different shoes. I believe stance might be the most important thing to get right so you can really lock in and get better at riding and speed. But all riders are different! Great video and totally agree with everything you said! 👍
gunna agree haven’t had a single issue multiple shoes, surfaces, weather, i have 200 miles on mine and i can’t count on my fingers(only have one hand) having any of these issues

Your last sentence is profound: "Take care of yourself" I was hit by a Hummer H2 just crossing the road going from one sidewalk to the other. Road rash and blood everywhere. The worse is a concussion, shattered tibia and shattered fibula, with a couple of cracked vertebrae. Thankfully I was wearing a helmet, elbow/knee pads, wrist guards, and clean underwear. I don't remember any of it, other than seeing a big shiny grill about 2-3 feet from me. Based on my helmet, I skid in multiple places on my head. Recovery is no joke. The pain will test you, but I'm in good spirits, so I'm looking forward to floating again. I may just cry when I do. Please be careful out there, it's the other person you have to look out for.

do you know if FM is doing anything to fix the issue of battery wires getting crimped/damaged by the battery housing. could you do a video taking yours apart and checking yours to see how they look. that's my biggest concern about the pint X. thanks

I'm saving my XR for the kids after I get my GT pre-order. I've been humiliated at intersections because my XR foot pad activation is shady, especially during this winter. I've been riding my Hurricane while i wait for the GT... Great video bro.

Received my Pint X down under 🇦🇺, the sensor is rock solid and power/response seems like a noticeable improvement over the regular pint. Loving the extra speed before push back (also an XR rider). Still rides like a nimble pint to me 👍
My pint with Chibattery gets 12 miles compared to the 17 miles on my Pint X. 14 mph literally feels like as soon as I accelerate, I'm already getting pushback. That extra 3 mph doesn't seem like a lot, but it's the difference between comfortable acceleration and feeling like Captain Morgan. My Pint X was everything i ever wanted in the Pint.

I may have gotten a golden goose but my Pint X has had no sensor issues. I did get the Craft&Ride Hi Nug and replace the front grip tape with the tape they supplied so that might have positively affected by board. I have never ridden the regular pint but the Pint X is plenty carvey for anything that I have tried with it. I drove it around the inside of my parents house a few weeks ago and was able to easily weave through the kitchen and living room in between furniture. I have almost 100 miles on the board and it being my first onewheel I have zero regrets and would buy it again.

Got an OG pint and ordered the GT. I love the pint but want more range. Never tried an XR, I'm in the UK and there aren't many onewheels around to pop up cheap on eBay. Thinking of upgrading the battery on the pint anyway, definitely keeping both. Got a Hoosier treaded tyre for Christmas which is so great on trails. Love the videos, I find them honest and helpful.
hit up WitzWheels in St. Augustine FL. have Ryan put a concave front footpad on your pint/pintx and say goodbye to sensor issues, plus that front concave on the pint is SWEET!

Very nice video. I liked the part about how it's not really a straight-line speed machine as far as what feels good on it (certainly on the stock tire). I'm getting into OneWheels and decided to start with a Pint X, rather than the not-as-optimal Pint, or a second-hand XR, or a very expensive GT. XR is my next best choice. But as far as how I wanna ride it, I like the idea of slower speeds and carving, and being able to carry it easily and also taking it with me on public transport and into shops and stuff (duffel bag and whatnot). Also the manoeuvrability (easy direction changes, carving) and torque are nice. Like with my bicycle, I don't like to try to go as fast as I can. I'm cautious and just wanna enjoy the vibes. With an XR and the subtle pushback and fast straight lines being the fun way to ride it, I don't like that lol. I don't want to play with nose-dives, which can happen for a variety of reasons to be aware of. Carving at slower speeds sounds more fun and matches my vibes and should be more comfortable for me as far as safety goes. Plus I can then have that pretty TFL Drop Top Fender which is already on the way lol.
I've seen comments on other videos about tune sensor having problems. I just received my Pint x and my sensors are friggin perfect! Haha guess I'm lucky. But I weigh 230 so that probably helps with pressuring the front pad 😄
I had the same exact issue with the Pint X foot pad sensors. The only fix for me to even make it rideable was to swap it out with my old Pint’s foot pad. I had a spare laying around after I upgraded my OG Pint with Surestance footpads.
Better to have a sensor detecting you than it suddenly not and dropping on you... I often dump my board o it's side when dismounting after muddy riding, that's the only time I've seen a board ghost, ( mud heavy on footpad ). Great review 👍
I had sensor issues on my OG Pint as well. Ended up finally having the front footpad replaced and this worked. After falling twice due to the board shutting off at launch.

This review couldn't have been timed better for me. With a GT coming soon I've decided to hang onto my Pint for friends to ride, but was leaning towards selling at a loss to get a Pint X. I think I'll hang onto it now though thanks to this clear insight. I love the nimbleness of the Pint and I doubt friends that aren't consistently onewheeling are going to be bothered by the lower top speed. And if range eventually becomes an issue I can easily upgrade the battery like you did to yours. Awesome review!
It took ages for the Pint X to become available in in Shops here in Australia, and alot of folks were experiencing issues with shipping as well additional cost buying direct from FM. I believe they have only recently become available in stores in the last few weeks. I already had the OG Pint, decided to keep it and I picked up a used XR that only had 130Km on it. Was seriously thinking about waiting for the Pint X... this was all before they announced the XR would be discontinued. In hind sight I am pleased with my choice.

Thank you so much for your honest review specially for talking about the sensor issue NOBODY’S talking about. I thought my pint x was defective. I was watching the OneWheel channel’s videos just to see what kind of shoes they were wearing. I’m shoe size 9.5 and wore 2 different pairs of vans and still didn’t work until I rode it bare feet. I did the furniture pads and problem solved! Best OneWheel content channel so far!!! Please keep it going 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Please tell me have since deleted the sesitivity sensor by now its super simple cause yes espesially brand units tend to be stiff hints so they last but i remove that xtra plastic before i ride anything... FloAt on brah if you need video theres several on my channel..

Hello Mario, im iSzy X [MEGA FUN] , i have a Pint X unidentified issue wondering if maybe you could spare me some on your knowledge as im from Europe i don't believe in sending away broken battery things across the ocean for them to get fixed and another shipping journey... so this is my intake on what happened to it ; to me it seems that i have done something to it riding with my style xD, as it only turns on for a brief 3-5 seconds now: i can engage the motor in this time , i can prop it up and get the board rolling in the air , but , it will shut off on me within the 5 seconds flashing yellow once. i have never unscrewed anything par the fender component to air brush dirt , the board nose dived on me at 50% wouldn't turn on until i carried it home to throw it on charge when/than it showed 1% with a higher than average charge time flashing changing and reaching 108 hours of charging in the app :/ upon it reaching 14% after 4hours of charging i decided to swap the charging slot it was charging in , it changed back to 1% and took another 4hours to charge to 84% and no further. at which point i stopped charging it. and tried to turn it on and it did the above 3-5 second cycle turn on to turn off. i decided to take this fender component off and saw that the plug port of the battery side is not screwed in properly and 2 of the threads are still showing could this have unsecured and messed with power intake to the computer causing to to only be able to run for a few seconds P.S Now if i plug in the board it shows 1% battery after all those hours already on charge. the board has 847 raw shred miles. (may i have fried some part of the computer? could this be the plug not providing enough power as its not screwed in properly?) i cannot / am not able to screw the battery plug in with tweezers without completely taking apart the board , so i ask for guidance and maybe you guys or the community could help me identify the problem, THANKS in advance, hope you enjoy your day!
I wear comfortable and supportive city walking boots with much thicker soles and more tread, and they totally removed the sensor issue for me because they spread out the pressure to small points across the grip tape. My feet have quite high arches and I think the ball and heel of my foot really struggle to hit the right parts of the sensor because they are near the edges of the board. Walking boots make a huge difference. Wear your favourite pair and give it a go. My feet are totally stuck to the board too. I think flat shoes are overrated. The boots grip much better for me.
14:40 booted. def in queens 🤣 love to see that someone else uses the pint/x as the parking assistant lol. it's just so great to toss in the car or get groceries. the XR always felt like an ordeal to bust out. i had an XR + original pint but sold both and ordered the Pint X + GT. feel like it's a decent trade off. i wonder if i'll eventually feel nostalgic to the XR but i agree that it's not a big update from the Pint X. pint x feels significantly faster to me and while i don't push it hard, i do appreciate the extra "power" it has. it definitely goes over cracks with more authority like you said.
Just got a pint x and personally the pint and pint x are their own category. We’re as the xr and gts are their own category. Plus the xr is about 1000$ more than either of the pints.
The Pint X is so much more buttery and smooth. It is just as playful as the pint I rode 800 miles on. The weight of the Pint X isn't that considerably more than the Pint. I have literally not noticed any difference. Carrying any one wheel sucks, knowing the difference between 5lbs extra of suck is a joke. The Pint X offers so much more punchiness and eliminates more of those nose dive moments from fast take offs. The ability to cruise around 16 mph (my preferred speed) without push back is WELL worth the upgrade. If you don't want to spend $2500 for the GT (which was the solution given in this video) get a Pint X.

Hi Mario, For me I bought a xr a year ago for top price from FMs website which I regret instead of trusting the 2nd hand onewheel market, however to keep my worth I aint gonna sell it for a gt or Pint X! My board has been modded in a way where I added half and half lowering kit and I am lookkng into buying smooth tech rails that are angeled and can be dropped to match wtf rails and already eith the drop axle kit from tfl my ride feels really stable and gives a lot of confidence in street which is what I am riding all the time

In all honesty I’ve never had that issue with the pint X sensor. Maybe it’s that I have larger feet? Idk it’s also my first onewheel, 200 miles on it and I’ve had the an issue with it not starting maybe 3-4 times

I agree with all he said, but my concern was range. he didn't mention that and I think it is the most important thing to consider. one wheels are heavy. you don't wanna get stuck carrying it for long. so consider when and where you will be using it. I have the pint x and ride around 8 - 10 miles on my days off work. so a pint wouldn't carry me far enough without battery anxiety. pint x will always be close to the 18 mile range. I usually can get 16 - 17 no prob.

Can you take a pint x on a plane? Honestly, I love being able to take my pint with me anywhere especially if I’m flying somewhere I’ve never been. I just bought the gt40! But just wanted to know if the pintx can be carried on planes?
@@TheBoardGarage thanx! I’m super happy with my pint and I’m a big guy. 220+ so I’ve been debating on getting the pintx. My thought is if I can’t take it with me to explore new places, what’s the point??? I like the GTmod it’s not bulky and I’m happy you can take it off fairly easy. One more question, does that mod battery fit into faa guidelines to be put into a carry on? Thank you for some really informative videos to btw! It can be easy with the little ones!
@@dankehrig3419 Thank you! I'm honestly not sure about flying with the board or the mod. Truth be told, I don't do a lot of flying. Haven't been on a plane in many years. This year I will, but I won't be taking any rideables with me. I appreciate your kind words, sorry I can't be of more help.
@@TheBoardGarage I was initially concerned about taking my pint on a plane but after several flights without one hassle, I will always bring it! The advantages of being able to get out a explore more of the area you’re visiting is amazing! You meet people you wouldn’t normally have met without the wheel! But if you’ve already got a lot of gear it’s harder to take for sure. I’ve condensed all my camera equipment and batteries into one carryon and have the craft n ride backpack. It has just enough room for one extra pair of clothes for a weekend trip! Anyway thnx again for all of your videos, I will let you know if I can bring the mod battery with me!
I was frustrated with the footpad sensitivity for the first like 3 days but furniture pads/stacking grip tape (as you mentioned) is a super simple fix that immediately made this a non-issue for me. 👍

Yeah bought the pint x as my first one wheel. I dig it, put the extended back foot pad and concave foam front grip tape thing, then ditched the slick for a treaded Hoosier. Definitely gonna get the gt now, I really like the x but my main purpose is shredding trails and gt seems to be the machine for that. Hopefully I can get the 9yr old on the x.
The tradeoff between sensor sensitivity vs 'ghostboard' accidents seems like they need an extra sensor or software solution. For example, the profiles of XYZaccelerometer and gyroscope will be radically different depending on whether or not a rider is on the board. Operation outside that expected dynamic profile can be minimized or prevented. Please have an override button incase the computer is making a bad decision. A logical AND gate "is the foot sensor pressed" and "is the board behaving as expected over a given time period" requires additional processing and a significant amount of testing. Making the board a little more personal might help too. If this is 'my board', it can learn what it's like when I'm on it (or a less customized presets of rider weight). It's an interesting problem. Every solution introduces a new set of tradeoffs.
Hello, I've had my Pint X for 1 month now and I'm ranked in the top 300 for mileage at the moment. I only had sensor problems on the first day receiving my Pint X and that was in 20 degree weather (I always wear my Vans when riding). I have heard of many stories, videos, threads about the Pint sensor issues, but never the Pint X. So with that said I believe there could be a problem specifically with just your board. But, in the end we should all just get GTs. Mine comes in next month. Good video and good review.
I appreciate your kind words. However I can assure you, it is not just my board. The rest of the comments so far seems to show a wider spread pattern. However I have tried other footpads of the same batch, and other riders local to me with similar experiences. Sample variation can account for a lot, but there is a marked difference in current gen sensors.
My Onewheel XR has this problem and it will shut off when I’m riding slow or changing directions and it very frustrating; I think I would rather have my bored ghost

Great buying advice! I loved and still love my Pint that I have now tricked out with everything except flight fins. The VNC solved the range anxiety issue. The riding on constant pushback is gauged in so no more hurtful nosedives and as you say it is just so nimble. So when the new announcements came, the GT was the clear upgrade path for me (shipping date March 1st) even though it is big and heavy, I shall be able to explore another type of riding that I could not or would not do on my original Pint such as trail riding and heavy tricks or even very long rides! So the ideal situation is owning both!😎🙏🏾

Solid review! Many from from the OTW team experienced the Pint X front sensor footpad issue first hand. The issue was resolved after purchasing & installing the wood grain Pint Surestance Footpads for $140.00. After spending $1,400.00 starting out for the Pint X, most would feel the stock footpad would operate better. However, I do understand the Ghosting ➖👻➖ board explanation you raised. As always, thank you for your ridiculously informative videos.
Yes, it seems the wooden foot pads don't have such stubborn sensors. If I were just guessing, I'd say that since they don't sell many of them, they're still from earlier batches. I ordered a set of them on Black Friday, and the wood was a bit cracked and broken. And they gave a bit of an older impression.
I always had problems with my sensors, and I ride a XR, same problems, really dangerous, it was really dificult to engage the board, and twice my board turned off in midlle of a ride because not enoutgh sensibility, I almost killed myself. I took out the first plastic, and I posi-lock it, that was the only solution I had. Since that it is perfect, i rode 2000km with that pad, and still perfect.

if the wobbling nature of a regular pint makes me feel dangerous and gives me fear/anxiety every time I step on it, would it be incredibly stupid to "upgrade" it to a used XR hoping for a more stable ride, or should I consider an entirely different type of PEV like a scooter?
I agree, tire pressure makes a large difference. So does tire selection. I felt WAY more comfortable on my Pint after I put the Hoosier 10.5x5.0-6 on it. Felt almost like a different board. If you enjoy riding the OW, then I'd at least play around with the tire situation before calling it quits and moving on to something else.
@@MrDmadnessmanual suggests decreasing the pressure as low as 17 PSI for softer rides, but I've also seen the 10% of bodyweight rule online. I'm around 150-160, so would 15 be too low or is there a minimum threshold? I'm sure the range is going to take a hit... shouldn't be any more issue than that by going low, right?

Seems that your review is pretty heavily anti-Pint X. I have the Pint X and do not have any of the sensor issues, love the feel versus the much larger GT, love the range and the speed. There really wasn't anything positive in your review about the X. That said, it was your review and you are entitled to your opinions on it. Foot sensor issue that worked for me. I wear a size 13 shoe, I could not get them both to work consistently. I found that if you remove the thin plastic layer between the sensor and grip tape, if fixed my issue. No ghost riding issues either.
I thought i saw there were two layers of plastic. Is it only one layer?

Question: does the Pint X have better acceleration/torque/power then the Pint? Or is more battery and top speed really it?
I have sensor issues on my original pint. Didn’t know this was an issue with the new pint x. Drives me bananas and shoe choice is the only thing that consistently works.
I was frustrated with the footpads sensitivity for the first like 3 days but furniture pads/stacking grip tape (as he mentioned) is a super simple fix that immediately made this a non-issue for me. 👍

I was hit by a Hummer H2 just crossing the road going from one sidewalk to the other.
I'm sorry to hear about your injuries, that's really rough. I hope you recover fully and quickly. Best of luck and Godspeed.

Received my Pint X down under 🇦🇺, the sensor is rock solid and power/response seems like a noticeable improvement over the regular pint. Loving the extra speed before push back (also an XR rider). Still rides like a nimble pint to me 👍
The Pint X has a major design flaw in the battery housing that leads to damaged BMS balancing wires and main battery leads.
I was considering the pint X but managed to get one of the very last production XR’s and your review has satisfied me that I made the right decision

Dude next time your in the shop we need to go shredding you got skills! I didn’t even know you could do all that 🤣

Curious m, is this still a thing? I hear about it online a lot but I’ve never met anyone that’s experienced it.

Hello Mario, im iSzy X [MEGA FUN] , i have a Pint X unidentified issue wondering if maybe you could spare me some on your knowledge as im from Europe i don't believe in sending away broken battery things across the ocean for them to get fixed and another shipping journey...
so this is my intake on what happened to it ;
to me it seems that i have done something to it riding with my style xD, as it only turns on for a brief 3-5 seconds now: i can engage the motor in this time , i can prop it up and get the board rolling in the air , but , it will shut off on me within the 5 seconds flashing yellow once.
i have never unscrewed anything par the fender component to air brush dirt , the board nose dived on me at 50% wouldn't turn on until i carried it home to throw it on charge when/than it showed 1% with a higher than average charge time flashing changing and reaching 108 hours of charging in the app :/ upon it reaching 14% after 4hours of charging i decided to swap the charging slot it was charging in , it changed back to 1% and took another 4hours to charge to 84% and no further. at which point i stopped charging it. and tried to turn it on and it did the above 3-5 second cycle turn on to turn off. i decided to take this fender component off and saw that the plug port of the battery side is not screwed in properly and 2 of the threads are still showing could this have unsecured and messed with power intake to the computer causing to to only be able to run for a few seconds
P.S Now if i plug in the board it shows 1% battery after all those hours already on charge. the board has 847 raw shred miles.
(may i have fried some part of the computer? could this be the plug not providing enough power as its not screwed in properly?) i cannot / am not able to screw the battery plug in with tweezers without completely taking apart the board , so i ask for guidance and maybe you guys or the community could help me identify the problem,
THANKS in advance, hope you enjoy your day!
Same on boots, I wear Dr martens and have never had sensor issues on the x. Barefoot works too

love to see that someone else uses the pint/x as the parking assistant lol. it's just so great to toss in the car or get groceries. the XR always felt like an ordeal to bust out. i had an XR + original pint but sold both and ordered the Pint X + GT. feel like it's a decent trade off. i wonder if i'll eventually feel nostalgic to the XR but i agree that it's not a big update from the Pint X. pint x feels significantly faster to me and while i don't push it hard, i do appreciate the extra "power" it has. it definitely goes over cracks with more authority like you said.
Personally I have never had a sensor issue on the Pint X since day 1.
I used to have the problem on my XR though! So I completely understand.
it depends on weight a lot of the time. For me I'm 130 pounds with size 13's, mounting was hell before i modified the foot pad.

Good to know, as I am still waiting for my GT and this will be my first experience on a OW.

I just added some furniture pad dots and it solved all sensor issues I had. Shouldn't have to hack something at this price point though but it works.

Awesome and honest review on a great product.

Lower the tire psi, even a few psi makes a huge huuuuge difference,
I agree, tire pressure makes a large difference.
@@TheBoardGarage Thank you! I will look into that tire recommendation!
@@entropyme9 I'm about 120lb and ride 12 psi. I think people will go down to about 8psi when off roading, but it's whatever you prefer. Just mess around and find what you like best :-)
Just like you, I will also never get rid of my XR.

I have bought the XR and PintX for my wife. The pintX so wobbly in hight speed, it is easy to turn, you can do U-turn easy

Wow I had no idea that my sensor issues on my XR were because of that haha

Same issues had Jeff from Floatlife. Looks like they made a whoopsie.

The Pint X has a major design flaw in the battery housing that leads to damaged BMS balancing wires and main battery leads.
That being said. You just made up my mind I’m gonna make the pint x my first board

I'm the lucky one with a nice sensor..
No problemo. And pretty sure they change the tire profile more like a burris

awesome vid...thanks!!!
I feel like paying such a premium price we shouldn’t have to add pads or tape or remove a liner for foot sensors to work. Like yes it is easy but it shouldn’t be like that. That’s just my opinion!!

I personally like the improvements over the Pint and appreciate the smaller size versus the GT. Cheers.

Replace my pintx for XR to accommodate my 6'1" 220lb frame🤔 or keep pint X and enjoy the superior hill climbing ability over XR..
I highly disagree. You should absolutely sell your old pint at major loss to me to both to get a pint x and to be a kind and generous person. I’ll be glad to send over a lowball offer anytime 😁
I hate it when people beep at me when passing....So obnoxious lol.
