    I know people who've sunk more than the $450 difference into upgrading their original Pint's battery, and voided their warranty in the process. Having the extra range is worth the new price, imo.

      This was my thought for the XR+. Think it’s called the chi battery but know there’s one that’s quite popular to upgrade with but costs more than this difference and that’s assuming you don’t mess your board up in the process. I wish they’d have increased the top speed on the GT. 20 is fast on a onewheel but wouldn’t mind 25. Maybe the motor or liability on their end but for my needs the XR+ has enough range where this isn’t worth the upgrade

      Id've probably moved from the Pint to the Pint X instead of to the XR had it been an option last year. There's so much I love about the Pint and how it handles... the range was my only real complaint, and I wasn't willing to void my Pint warranty to get there. Now I love my XR, but I can't help but wonder what might have been.

    • @caramelzappa
      @caramelzappa 2 года назад +3

      Exactly. This upgrade is right in line with the DIY version in terms of price while being factory made and retaining your warranty. It also replaced the XR in terms of range for $300 less. The pricing is fine.

    This could be an absolute winner for FM if they just fixed their pricing. Drop the Pint to $900 ish and the Pint X to $1200 and it would be a definite improvement. Having a sub $1k board would've given a pretty decent prospect for new riders

    The biggest problem I have with future motion is that they don’t provide replacement parts. The boards are very modular and should be easy to repair but future motion goes out of their way to make repair harder and more costly in-terms of money and time.

      FFM (you could guess the meaning)
      -
      This is why I got a GT for my dad because he won't mod an XR he's not interested in doing so (I regretted the GT once my dumbass realized there'd be no mods so I tried planning a trade and he shut it down, and boy I tried convincing him otherwise but is what it is), it would cost more, but I'm sticking with mine and throwing on techrails, badgering it, crazyhub, shortie fenders, and cbxr/chip in a few weeks, already got Air Pad with front C&R grip tape, bang bumpers, Hoosier T2, float savers, tfl steel grizzlies, bearing protection, flight fins set up. I'm an XR dude, for some base product is all they want/need, so us DIY modders are being smashed by FM, so yeah. FFM. #FFM

    Two wild and crazy knowledgeable guys! Thanks Jimmy and Andrew for the great insights! The lack waterproofing and price increase to me were my biggest issues. Also it sounds like you can’t fly with the PintX from some comments that I’ve read elsewhere which was a huge selling point of the Pint to me, so that I can always have a wheel with me. For me a lot of this was playing catch-up with the third party so that folks would buy new instead of used and upgrading. It’s still a new and fun Onewheel but I’m with Andrew they just had me wanting more!

    Jimmy! Honestly my only complaint about my pint is that speed currently. I literally feel like that slight mph change may be perfect. At 205lbs I get pushback currently at about 14.5 which is like the time I start to feel fun. Pushback at 16.5-17 sounds like worth the upgrade for me

    I've been eye balling one wheels for a whole year, saving up my pennies every Chance I could. I'm a motorsports program director and unless I bring my race car and trailer with me, I don't get to bring the grom, so the one wheel was always something I kind of wanted for the mobility, and cost was a major factor. The Used market is still really strong on these with used pints selling round 750-800$ in CO XRs in the 1200$ range. Even though the price point was 1400$ for the new pintX, the fact that a hot new revision came out GOT me on one. And I freaking love it! In the scheme of things, its new price puts it in the used XR market, without all the scratches, miss matched problems, with a warranty, and the sense of pride knowing every mile is yours. Glad this came out, glad I'm riding without any major issues, and man, this has sold me on the product. I can't wait till people start getting their GTs so I can scoop up a deal on a used XR+ to add to the stable.

    Finally now that my snowboarding season is over I am getting around to reading the reviews on the new Onewheels. Have had my Pint for two years and have toyed with the idea of an XR at times because of the off-road ability but I have learned to ride the Pint on gravel roads and some trails, so don't need it. I like that the Pint is more maneuverable, lighter in weight and easy to store behind the seat in my vehicle, making it very accessible. I travel and camp and it is the best way to have quick, easy, and fun transportation when stopping in town or camping. I get over 10 miles with plenty of reserve on my Pint and now have a car charger and the quick charger, so range is not a problem. The big downside I see with the X is the lower clearance, as well as I don't want any extra weight. So will stick with the Pint.
    Only problem is that I had a sudden malfunction when riding the other day. Top speed showed 14.3 mph, flat surface, no push back the whole ride, which was about a mile. Suddenly locked up it seemed, and threw me. Hit hard on my left hip but no breaks luckily. The wrist guards saved my hands. A few scrapes and bruises, but trying to find out what happened. I have experienced nose dive before when battery was low, and another freak pitch forward at lower speed which was due to sand in the crack in the road on an uphill grade. No understanding of what happened here. I tried to find something about a Simple Stop glitch that I heard people mention, but can't find anything on that. Waiting for FM to get back to me, but not expecting much help there. Two days later I sent an email inquiring and they said they are waiting for my serial number, purchase info, etc., ALL of which I sent them with the Diagnostic Data back the day of the accident. Battery was at 60%.

    With the decreased clearance, that I do find really odd. It would not be hard for FM to simply construct the rails with slight downward angles starting near the outer edges of the tire so that the axle is effectively dropped an extra inch or so relative to the bottoms of the footpads. It would also look kind of cool, too, introducing some angles into the profile of the board, IMO.

    I agree with Andrew on the design. Most people say they don't really like the XR design because it looks like it was made in a garage. I love it because... it looks like it was made in a garage!
    Every scratch, every bump add to the aesthetic of the XR instead of subtracting from it. It just gets cooler with time, instead of looking old and rough it looks like it was used like it wants to be used.

    About price: I know I'm going to sound like a shill or an FM rep here but what I actually am is an industrial designer. We're unfortunately in a very high inflation period that may or may not go away, that's coupled with shipping costs nearly quadrupling and a (I'm going to say manufactured to increase share valuation) fuel scarcity that's driving costs way up. So while yes, it does suck that the prices are rising, that's fairly consistent with the climate we're in. It's also important to remember that most of the tech we consume is priced artificially lower than it should be. I'd be willing to bet that most hardware is subsidized by other much higher profit driven software companies/app companies/accessories/big data. Similarly, I would wager that OneWheels themselves are barely profitable when you take net into consideration but, injection molded accessories can more easily be made domestically and generate a much larger margin.

    🌕 I ride the ole Pint and love it for its carving ability. To think of having a heavier one that can scrape on a tight slow turn is a turn off for me. I was ready to move up to the X when my local shop quoted me the $1050 price as the resale value is great for my old one, but once I read the listing for the X at $1400 it’s not worth the extra cost even though my entire reason was the extra distance a short coming for the ole Pint. Though I actually found to achieve 10 miles at 9/10 /11 mph. And generally only ride around about 8 or 9 and like the less charging time. Keeping mine and considering I got a deal at $950. Still a value at $1050. I love it so much I am thinking of buying another before its price goes up. Have one for my grand kids to ride with me. Only a little sad that my Pint I get push back at anything over 12 mph. This is my 3rd OW love it way more than My old XR since I don’t ride the dirt. My hats off to the motion crew industries. Living in Santa Cruz and been riding these since I first saw them on the cliffs 4 years ago. These boards are built good and built to last.🤙

    Great review/video as always. The X seems like a great addtion. As others have said a $950 Pint with a battery upgrade is running you at least 1300. I did the battery upgrade and while I certainly got extra distance, its not been as much as advertised nor what I am reading people are getting wth the X. Plus the extra speed is a big sell for alot of people. The 1400 price point sounds about right for me, especially when the XR is 400 more and the X gives you most of the same features.

  • @jacobpaint
    @jacobpaint 2 года назад +1

    I’m glad it’s such a modest upgrade and that they are hiking up the price because I have no intention of upgrading to any of them. If they brought out a great new upgraded board that was looked better, was waterproof, much faster and with the better range then my old Pint would lose value and feel more inferior. For the most part I’m happy to take it slow although the better range would be nice sometimes.
    As much as some people might not like the push back I think it’s quite a dangerous device and it’s very easy to misjudge the speed so I think FM are wise to increase the pushback to make it more safe overall. If they reduced it I think they would need to include an audible alarm in the board but that seems even more annoying - people would be able to open the board and disable the speaker.
    I watch you in this video and you’re standing quite straight while distracted with the camera work. If the board malfunctioned and nose dived I expect you are more experienced than most so as to either react or roll better but that sudden dismount can be awkward and remove your ability to control how you land. I had my first fall 6 weeks ago and while I blame myself it gave me a taste of what it’s like to be caught off guard… I was going very slowly and the Pint cut out but as said, it was my fault. I had someone recording a few quick shots of me and I had been picking up the board and moving it without switching it off. I was also tired but wanted to shoot the quick video but being tired and distracted meant that I didn’t notice that the nose was riding low until after I fell and when I fell my reaction was so slow that I took one step then went down hard on my right arm. I broke that shoulder and a bone in my other wrist. Now I have to put up with everyone telling me I have to sell it even though it was clearly my own fault… if I fall again I really will look stupid.

  • @georgestweeter
    @georgestweeter 2 года назад +9

    I got the pint early this summer, ~6months ago. My biggest complaint is the range. I am 6'2" ~220lbs, so basically the limit of size for the one wheel, and get about 6 miles of range usually. There's a big hill going up to a park by me and that hill alone, it's about 1/3 of a mile in total, will drain about 12% battery. Ive been stranded once, my Pint died, but showed it had 15% battery left, yet it wouldn't go any more. After the showcase i found a video about the Quart aftermarket battery for the Pint that basically doubles the range for about $350(if i remember correctly), i think i will end up getting that.

    • @ThujanK

      Well the pint states that it only gets that limited range so why are you complaining? That's like buying a mower with a 48 inch deck and getting upset you can only cut 48inch strips of grass each pass?

    • @real_ez8412
      @real_ez8412 2 года назад +2

      @@Itowle9 hes complaining because when you look at the range of a pint at least on paper it seems pretty far but when you actually ride it daily all it does is suck the fun out of your experience when you realize you have to charge it already on top of the speed at 14mph just feels really slow.

    • @georgestweeter
      @georgestweeter 2 года назад +1

      @@real_ez8412 Exactly, you only get about 30-40 minutes out of it per ride, assuming you're not just going as fast as you can. I usually cruise around 12mph, although sometimes i wish i could go faster. Then when you're not even 20 minutes in and you feel like you basically just started it tells you you're at 50% battery and you need to turn around, that's just a buzz kill. If i had the expendable cash, or i lived close enough to work that i could ride a one wheel to justify the purchase, i would've gotten a bigger one with a greater range. And it's possible to upgrade your battery capacity with aftermarket stuff for about the difference in cost from a new Pint to a new PintX. So i could sell my Pint used and buy the PintX, idk what the used Pint market is like rn, I'd assume probably $800 for it, then put that towards buying a PintX, which after taxes and other add-ons, like rail guards, would probably be about $1500. Leaving me to cover the $700 gap. Or i could go for aftermarket batteries for about half of the cost. That's why i brought up getting aftermarket batteries.

    The mag handle is also great. Before those came out we were buying these strap-on handle things that were meant as a grab handle for the top bar of a Jeep. Like the inner frame roll bar above your head. It’s a little nylon strap that would have two points to fix around the roll bar a then a handle hangs off. It was perrrrfect to throw on the bars of the XR. Some 3rd parties made some options too, but I just grabbed the Jeep handles from Amazon for like 5 dollars lol.

    Pint to Pint X really just feels like the Onewheel Plus to the Plus XR (extended range).
    The Jump from Gen1 to the Plus was huuuge. The jump from the XR to the GT seems pretty big as well.
    I’ve been waiting to hear them drop something different enough to go out and get.
    I love that they’re offering the rounder tires.
    They’re harder to learn on, but once you “get gud” they’re so much more fun.
    The pint X is just more range really. Little more speed. So it’s a little better than the XR jump, but otherwise it’s pretty much the same product.
    They only exist to provide people with different price options.
    So yea, I mean if you have the money or you can sell your Pint and you want more range…. Do it up. The range extension is pretty awesome. My Plus gets around 5 or 6 miles, and yea if I bring the charger I can have it up and running again in 45 mins or so; but not having to do that because you have double the range really is a game changer.
    The hyper charger is a game changer too. Being able to go 6 miles, chill for 40 mins, and then get another 6 miles is pretty nuts. Make that 12 miles or 32 miles!!! Well, now it’s just insane. The GT battery probably takes a good 3 to 5 hours or so, but I’m mean… 32 miles… that’s nuts. You could ride literally all day, maybe need 1 partial charge…Maybe, lmao.

    About Innovation: There's A LOT of hate going towards FM over the GT because it is a completely new product and whether it was intentional or not, that hangs the aftermarket community scrambling to catch up. The new Pint X looks is a bit more "if it's not broke, don't fix it, let's just make it more competitive with the current XR." I don't mind this pragmatic approach as it now gives people who like the pint the ability to hang with the XRs on group rides and enjoy a greater range/speed. I think no matter what, FM would get criticism. The more troubling issue seems to be that front sensor.

    I am thrilled that they improved the range, but they left off a lot of things that would have been incredibly easy improvements. Examples: The ability to increase the brightness of the headlight. This could have been a feature in the app. If you are riding at night and don't need the full range, turn the brightness way up.
    Have more speed warnings. The Pint X should have an audible beep when it's motor is maxing out. The battery bar should also flash red as a visual warning.
    How about using the battery LEDs as a speedometer so that you can glance down and get some indication of your speed (without having to mess with your phone).
    How about including the $3.00 charging port plug.
