    Great video, love seeing the unvarnished opinions with the different strengths that make each board suitable for different riders, their needs, and budget considerations. I'm eagerly awaiting the Enduro for my XR and all the new goodies that you excellent humans will be dreaming up for the GTs (can we get a Kush already please? OMG). In the meantime, I'll be waiting to ambush the poor UPS guy when they arrive with the TAC gear that I just ordered from you guys the other day.

    I bought a Pint X in March 2022. At only 5-foot-7, with a men's size 8 shoe, I have so much more control on the Pint X than when I ride my XR. Super sharp turns, nimble dodging around potholes and big roots, and light weight with torque for crazy carves and unreal hill climbs. My XR is a relaxing cruiser best on long flat stretches of pavement where I don't need to react quickly and can open up the higher top speed. My Pint X is a rocket on dirt trails, uneven sidewalks, and up the steep hills of my town.

  • @bencrystalofficial
    @bencrystalofficial 2 года назад +11

    I would personally only recommend the Pint to either give to small children or to be used explicitly as a tool-- the doubling of range and slightly higher top of the Pint X makes the board feel more capable keeping up in the bike lane in busy cities and being used for transportation in general. The range anxiety on the original Pint is real and without the ability to upgrade the battery on the newer models very easily it's difficult to justify not saving up a few hundred more to splurge on something you won't feel the need to upgrade from in the first month or two!
    Another note is that the GT (aside from battery management system drama) is an absolute beast of a machine! I use it to commute and it gets me from central Brooklyn to the UWS in Manhattan and back with decent battery to spare! It is pretty heavy so it's a pain to carry around, but it seems to fit in the large lockers at most gyms I've been to and I have had no trouble putting a cheap bike lock around the handlebars while at work/ other semi-supervised places :)
    Getting into Onewheels is honestly about the most fun and refreshing decision I've made in my life and I can't wait to see how much it grows in the coming years!

    I bought my first board about 2 months ago (Pint X) and absolutely love this thing! I had zero board experience or anything. I'm a very short and light rider (5'2'' 105 lbs) so its a perfect fit for me. I can go a bit faster and longer than the advertised speed and range without any problem. I use it for exploration and mostly commute to work since I live in a big city. Its super versatile. Even tried some small trails and I had the time of my life! After constantly hitting pushback I was already thinking about the GT but now that I've crashed twice in 3 days, I'm kinda happpy it was not at higher speed hahaha I think I'm gonna stick to it for a while! GT seems too big and heavy for me. Added Kush Nug Lo after a month and thinking about swapping for an Enduro tire if one for Pint X is available in the future :)

    I have Pint, XR and GT and agree with this vid. The Pint is great fun, very manoeuvrable and light. I don't use the XR as I find it less carvy and difficult to dismount. The GT really is good, feels much safer than the XR and has all that range. I was worried about the cost of the GT but am very happy with it and will try to sell the XR. GT feels much the safest and nearly as carvy as the Pint (but the Pint is still the most fun tbh).

    Proud owner of a Pint here. About 1k miles, still on the stock tire, here's my 2 cents:
    - Reliability: Had to change a few parts, broken front sensor after about 700 miles, probably because I didn't notice some small rocks stuck in the grooves of my shoe and messed it up, but could just be wear, not sure. Maghande let itself go last week, broke in half as I was picking it up, easy fix. Overall I'd say it's really sturdy and can withstand pretty much anything you throw at it, but do yourself a favor and buy a float plate. And probably the charge plug, maybe it's not necessary but gives some peace of mind when it rains.
    - Maintenance: little to none required, just some clean up after rough weather or trails.
    - Cons: The pads are too small, both my heels and toes stick quite a bit out of the board on either side (size 43 EU, I think it's 9 US), and you don't have that much space to adjust. The front sensor is a bit "touchy" at times, sometimes when mounting it doesn't activate if you don't press your foot down enough (and precisely), so you jump up and the front just flops down very anti-climactically, and you look like a fool 😂. Battery lasts less than you'd expect, 8 miles run by really fast, but it just depends on your needs, for me is more than enough to go back and forth from work.
    -Pros: FUN. It's all that matters really. All the cons mean nothing once you mount and start carving around. The city literally transforms when you are on a Onewheel, it becomes your personal playground. I'm a very lazy person, but when I wake up and realize I'm about to mount my Pint I daresay I'm even happy to go to work.
    What board you buy isn't really changing that, it's like the difference between buying a Ferrari or a Mclaren, one maybe faster, better looking or more reliable than the other, but you are still on a very fast supercar, it's not like one would work and the other one wouldn't. As long as the board you choose is capable of bringing you where you need to go mileagewise, you're good to go.
    The looks people give you are hilarious. I live in Rome, and I may very well be the only one with a Onewheel in the whole city, I haven't seen another one in 2 years, and I'm ready to bet 99% of the people don't even know what a Onewheel is. The looks of shock/surprise/disbelief people throw at you never get old. (Cons to that is no group rides for me 😥)
    Just do yourself a favor and get one, any model will do.

    I was about to buy a GT and learned about all the bug, ghosting etc.. The price is too high as well. And the fact that we have to send it back to FM in case of issue and the lack of 3rd party made me bought an EUC instead. So I am waiting for a GT fix and FM to loose a little bit on the right to repair + 3rd party. Once that fixed, I'd glably buy one. I will just rent one from time to time while waiting!

      I can understand the reasons for the hate on FM, but no one makes anything in America anymore. I like the idea of supporting a guy who created a great PEV in California and instead of manufacturing it in China, started his own factory in his own home town, providing great jobs for fellow Californians. I got my GT last week so my journey continues. New production line, new firmware installed, no issues.

They are the sole reason why most advancements with the sport are stifled. Their current stance on independent repair is a bit more relaxed compared to how they have been. It's not hard to see their corruption either "with asking owners to black out labels on their box so that transportation companies such as FedEx cannot tell there are hazardous fire risks shipping in sensitive storages such as planes or ships inorder to save money on shipping costs and lets not even talk about the ridiculous reasons why they deny people for warranty repairs."

    • @lewwylately7467

      For me it depends on two things: 1. if aftermarket parts become easy to source.
      2. If my current XR outlasts the GT and they bring out a new board.
      Personally I'd love to see them work with someone like TFL and produce a slightly lighter board designed to be ridden like a skateboard. BANGS as stock, TFL grip, sidekicks, concave pads, a lighter battery pack, that's fairly quick to swap out, saves weight for tricks, but bring a spare in the backpack if you want a long ride, Street pro tyre, maybe Varials? Between FM and TFL they could make boards that bring people into the culture, which they both do already, but I think together it'd be easier for people to just jump straight in with a board that can session street spots.

    Got my XR since last August. Revision 4212. Thanks to the JWFFM chip "no cut" I've just setted up an CBXR Chi Battery few weeks ago. Works like a charm : more punchy, better tork and got same, if not more range than the GT now (50-60 km). Magnetic carbon C&R fender, Air pad rear foot pad, ultra reflective side kicks from Float life. Got a pair of ceramic grizzly bearing too (now I just have to find a place or someone to install this ^^' Stock life service in France just does not exist, and I don't have proper tool for that -like a 3 tonnes press....-). Looking to change my stock Vega tire for a sweet Enduro FL ones ;-P. Got Float Plats and Fangs V.3 too.
    I don't see any reasons to switch for the GT. Perhaps the next Onewheel generation will be ok but now my XR do same, if not better than the GT.... And Futur Motion really fucked up with their anti right to repair moves. They gonna have to change before they deserve my money again.

      From a safety standpoint if we put ourselves in FM's shoes doesn't your comment say it all? With "right to repair" you made a more dangerous unregulated modded version of their board with their name on it. If you get seriously injured bc the XR software was designed to allow modding then who's at fault? I'm not arguing really it's more of a what if stand point. Just a thought.

      @@YBG_DAG I don't buy that argumet at all. If he gets in an accident the fact that it's modded and souped up will be front and center. Besides his reason for upgrading the battery is an unusual one, the vast majority of people just want to extend the range of their ride, especially as the boards get older. Companies have used the "we're fucking you for your own good" argument forever, and it's almost always bogus.

    i feel it would have been good, to cover the flaws of the boards aswell. Like Ghosting on GT`s and the Overheating problem thanks to the Powdercoating of the Rails. Or that it is less repairable than any other board before the GT.

    I kinda hope they come out with a mid-board between the pint and the gt. Maybe they will call it the Xr, lol. But really, is it just weight that is different from the Xr to gt? Or is it length or width? Seems like it got some more junk in its trunk.

    I have the Pint X and have no regrets, but lets not pretend that 18MPH is the top speed. You will get pushback as soon as you hit 16MPH and you'd have to push through pushback to get to 18MPH which is not recommended.

Now my journey really begins as I learn to carve all over again. I have since passed my Pint on to my nephew.

    The pint is great for people up to 140 lbs maybe 150 lbs, and the GT is ideal for people over 250lbs, but without the XR there isn't a new onewheel for everyone in between. So 80% of the addressable market isn't addressed by the current lineup...

    I will get a second XR when I have the money for it and there is one to buy. If not, I mostlikely go for a Vesc as soon my XR stops working.

    FM sabotage boards worse than ever before, sue anyone offering enhancements smh! Increasing numbers of previous customers are building GT killer diy boards. There are such better options out there now. FM have squeezed too tight, now its all slipping out between their fingers. D'Oh!

      What options? .. im an e-longboard AT (evolve gtrs) rider , Looking to buy a onewheel, but thinking about alternatives (because the GT bricking seems stupid, specially if im from across the world) ... But cant find any alternatives

    • @quantumvortex3942
      @quantumvortex3942 2 года назад

      @@svenmaesalu6917 Funwheel with VESC is a very viable option now, There's the potential to build whatever style board you like with a huge range of aftermarket options for rails, batteries, footpads, controllers, tires, the list goes on. Its easy now to build boards that will not only out perform a GT but be cheaper and more reliable and more rideable around a 6" hub.

    If the Pint/PintX/XR/ and GT all have same size motor. couldn't you but a high volt (or higher something else) battery in a pint and vesc it and essentially have a GT in a pint body? is that possibly the "safety" thing FM doesn't want people messing with so someone doesn't blindly follow a few RUclips videos and Now they are going over 30mph with no pushback and sue FM when they start breaking bones?
    Since this is the OW community I expect you to tell me how stupid I am ect but please elaborate on why I am stupid and not just "FFM"

  • @ChrisG1392

    The GT is too big. We want a pint but wider (not thicker) to accommodate normal human sized feet. The GT puts the board plane higher on the wheel which doesn't seem attractive. Which is why I still think the final form is a GT slim.

    But as usual TFL BARLEY mentions the open source VESC. Why does it seem like this is some big secret? You're always doing things "for the culture" but never mention the very real alternative. I get that you're getting some perks and a big influence to onewheel riders but how can we trust what you're saying if you're completely ignoring a huge part of the community?

    • @TheFloatLife
      @TheFloatLife  2 года назад +2

      It’s not a huge part of the community yet. It’s getting there though. The average person looking at onewheels doesn’t have the wherewithal to immediately jump into VESC. I rode a VESC a long time ago and it’s definitely getting better in its current form! We get ours in about a week so I’m sure you’ll be seeing more.

    • @CouZ85

      @@TheFloatLife I get it's not the easiest thing to wrap your head around without even knowing what a onewheel is but I think everyone should be aware of it as an option. Can't believe I had a onewheel for over a year and had never even heard of VESC. Just seems strange to me that it's barely even mentioned by the top onewheel influencers like yourselves. I hope we see some VESC vids from you guys soon tho. The future is exciting and thanks to guys like Kaettz aka vesc.mann the future is now!!
