Elevator Mis-Level

- In this building, we've got a bit of a problematic elevator... when it tries to go up to any floors beyond #2, it fails to platform properly but attempts to open its doors before it's in position. This causes the controller to be unhappy and immediately close the doors again. After a brief pause, the elevator returns to the lobby.
This video is, hopefully, a demonstration both of how elevators can experience errors but also of how you are never going to be in big trouble or at risk of harm in an elevator... if it's not working properly, try the "door open" button and/or try to place calls to other floors, especially the recall floor like the lobby... then egress.
Most of all, stay calm. You'll be just fine. :-)
(And, yes, I explained to the staff what was happening -- thankful for my Spanish -- and am working with them to inform their maintenance staff and get a service call underway)
The elevator sure is old enough to buy a beer. But unfortunately the bar is on the 4th floor.... 😭
I like the Music playing in the Background..it Takes your mind off the Misbehaving elevator..🥳🥳🎵🎼🎶🎧
Before you even mentioned the brand "Dover", I figured this was an oil-hydraulic elevator - I've always disliked them! By contrast, I loved the "Plunger" brand, water-hydraulic elevator in my mother's office building.
The seven-floor elevator was powered by the city water supply, and used absolutely no electricity (except for a light fixture in the open-cage cab). Floor-leveling was done by hand, with the operator manipulating a cable-controlled valve which regulated the flow of water into and out of the main piston cylinder. It was a fun elevator to ride!
Working security, when the elevators started doing random stuff, i used the bypass key to enter manual mode and another key to turn the elevator off for a minute. Didn’t work all the time, but often enough. I equated it to resetting a phone or computer, something we all do on occasion. Other times I’d use the elevator door key to gain access, but obviously cautious to know elevator on that level. Sad reading about people jumping down from a halfway up elevator, only to lose their footing on the platform and fall down the open shaft.
Elevator was like "I hate the 4th floor, I'm goin back down" 😂
Nice that you can inform them because of your Spanish.
I'm so used to zero-based indexing of floors that I'm always startled when seeing anything else.
Some say he still rides the drunk elevator to this day...
Was waiting for you to prise the doors apart and John McClane it onto the 4th :D
John Carr that's a good way to get the elevator REALLY stuck. :-)
and to loose a few bodyparts!
John McClane it, or Howard Payne it?
But why would you WANT a drunk elevator...? Although maybe it's like some people and foreign languages, works better when tipsy...? Maybe that's why it's mis-leveling. It's just not drunk enough yet.
it is the safety. the floor is out of adjustment. The magnet on the tape for location has moved or the slow down magnet is missing. Do not pick on Dover they are great elevators. Bought out by Thyssen Krupp. The first troubleshoot for that brand not leveling.
MIMisguided oh i didn't mean to sound like I was picking on them as a brand... Just this particular cab was old and beat up.
DeviantOllam all it needs is an inspection and adjustment. Now if iy wad a shindler I wouldnt even get on it.
The floor is out of adjustment???
Exactly how do floors become mis-adjusted?
depends on the elevator. Magnets could have been slid on the tape, cube relay could be bad, position sensor could be going out. Several ways.
@@MarkH10 Dev has some videos with Howard Payne on elevators. There are a number of features they point out that tell the elevator where it is, and how it can reset to relocate itself. Some old ones they showed looked mechanical and remind me of how some revolvers keep track of where the cylinder is so it can fire a bullet, but it works out to there are things they activate in the shaft, such as switches at the floors. Elevator activate them by moving past, physically, electronically or whatever, sends information to control room, control slows it down in response, etc.
I was once in an elevator that plumetted seven floors. I can't say it wasn't the fault of the people I was with..
Well I'd rather go to 5th and climb down stairs to 4th than go to 3rd and climb stairs up to 4th...
Now what about the people already on the 4th floor? Is there a crowd waiting for the elevator that will never show up? lol
Would it even go past the fourth floor to the fifth?
Westinghouse AE?
No, old dover
this is a dover
Out of curiosity, what kind of building? What was above floor 2? Was it a public facing elevator?
Dylan Headrick public building, main lobby bank of elevators. All floors are public floors... Not maintenance spaces, etc
I think the door closing properly, need fixtures for this elevator. This one looks like a broken door elevator, isn't. What suppose be ask the manager something problem this elevator are not installed with it and lack of door full closing properly is. Quite surprising this elevator being neglect properly these doors not closing properly. Did you see that small view bit open that door... See 0:42sec. It's not safe to good an elevator isn't. That's lucky, what expected of this elevator going be trapped it is! 😦
Lol fleetwood macs don't stop is playing in the back ground
What?!
@@SAMIEWALLFORD756 although this was my comment from long time ago if you listen closely to the background elevator music you can hear Fleetwood Mac dont stop
No thanks. I will take the stairs.
I have seen plenty of videos with you talking about elevators .. Fix it
he's a pen tester, my dude
not an actual elevator mechanic
he plays with the elevator controls because the access panels are all keyed alike, not because he actually knows how to fix anything
@@Chris-P.-Bacon-III Really???
Maybe the elevator is drunk!
Not drunk this elevator... This is an elevator being neglected problem the door won't auto-locked properly. It looks like broken door was installed. They wasn't call them repair and replace for a one isn't... What expect of worst elevator done wrong!
