    Conditions and lane choice play a factor in any sled race. Those chain case F7s were really fast in there glory years. I'm betting that XC 700 has a set up that works. Let's get that F7 some maintenance etc and have another round. Great video with the boys, cheers from Ontario

    I know alot of F7 fans we're saying that it would eat up the XC 700.. but I knew that wasn't going to be the case. I never owned a XC 700 but my buddy did and it was a VES which are even a little bit quicker and we use to do drags up on our river and not much could touch them, the closest sleds to them was the F7 or triples on long runs.. alot of F7 fans are unfamiliar that the XC's are Big Block motors and they work very good.. coming from a Yamaha rider

    • @Ryan-vo3rm
      @Ryan-vo3rm Год назад

      @nick no they are all big blocks only thing that changed was the cylinders with power valves and VES which gave them more power.. alot of people talk about the 220 jugs being the best but it's not true because they had more power in the later years... IN STOCK FORM.

    • @Ryan-vo3rm
      @Ryan-vo3rm Год назад

      @Shane Rose yes they are both quick, and I knew they we're gonna be pretty much even. Like I said we use to run ice drags years ago and it was a big event in our area in Canada here and I remember those stock XC's we're taking down modified sleds and F7's we're pretty evenly fast basically they lost just as many as they won when they lined up and it was fun to watch. Remembering those day's I knew the F7 wasn't going to walk away, that it was going to be close and the XC did win and so did the F7 just like back when we dragged them

The 02 700 was rumored to have some hotter timing in it vs later yrs. The F7 was a quick sled and showed its tail lights to many larger CC sleds, but that XC 7 gave me all I could handle. I always felt the newer Cat digital speedos in those years were pretty accurate. I own one (2004), and at absolute top end on a LONG lake......................110mph. (O: It's 140HP in a 521 lb. sled WET................it makes perfect sense.

  • @stevegraves2890
    @stevegraves2890 6 месяцев назад +1

    Some F7's (dependent on year and chain-case drive) are super fast due to a number of things: 1. Fuel injected. 2. Front air pick up (colder and more flow). 3. 13.5 x 128" track vs. the Polaris 15 x 121" (an extra lug and studs on the ground at any given time and lighter rotating mass). 4. Higher stock head compression (more stock H.P.). 5. Weight (stock vs stock the Cat is lighter by about 60 lbs.!). I believe the the 2003 F7 stock HP is around 140. The 2001 Polaris XC 700 is around 120-125 (Not the SP). The reason that "Scooter's" sled is neck to neck with that F7 is simple, his sled (a 2001 XC 700 SP) has a VES type cylinder head from a 2001+ 700 (higher compression probably equaling a stock F7). Don't know what gas Scooter is running but with that head 91+ octane. If the XC could "cheat" some weight and have a similar track it would likely beat the F7 most runs (based on similar track conditions). Cheers from Caledon ON CANADA... love the content

      They can't touch a stock for stock 700s with clutching in 660' is what we dragged. 500' not a chance. 1000' the SRX 700 would run it down.
      Also if you don't know much about the 03s. There claimed 135hp, was more like 145/150hp with minor tweaks.
      Mod 700s and stock and mod 800 classes didn't like the chain drive 03s.
      DD machines were slow 05/06s. They needed alot of work to make quick, plus they were a bit heavier.
      We had many wedges, Gen 2s, pro X , IQ and IQRs.
      I even had a IQR with a cat motor.
      The polaris 700 is a reliable fast motor. But they needed a ton of work to make them layback block fast.
      Unless your in your game, and hitting a light all day long on that tree. The XC 700 wasn't worth its weight for speed.

I would be willing to bet that a NEW sled in the 'same engine class' as a 20 year old Cat such as in the presentation here, the owner of the new model may be greatly surprised out there on the lake.
    Outside of the suspension changes and added comforts, the new sleds have not come all that far when the track meets the snow. (O: I just watched a video about the Catalyst, and the presenter made mention about Cat's 'lay down' engine. Guess what, that 2003 F7 is when Cat INTRODUCED the lay down engine......yes, it is 20 years old now and appearing on a 2024 model !

    Bought the F7 for $2,000. Single owner so far so good, I've been a ski-doo guy since the 70's , but my buddy was killin me back in 03 -04' w his f7, he was beatin my Mxz 700 (2000) but he couldn't beat my Mach z 800 (1997) on the lake, I will say my ski-doo Mxz is better on trail than the f7.

    Back in 05 I bought a 04 F7 snopro. I put 144 chisel tooth studs ., sucked down the Fox zero pro shocks put a can on it and I filled the flywheel key to get 6 degrees advance. Then I put a Thundercat primary spring and weights and cut fairly deep notches in the weights where the rollers contact the weights at idel which brought the weight almost back to stock but it engaged at 5300. Xc 700 were not worth racing I never even got beat buy an XCR 800. That Firecat would run 114 in 1000 ft. Back then the only Polaris sleds that could compete with Yamaha and CAT were full mods.

    Iv owned both depending on clutching both sleds r very fast.
    Actually believe it or not the XC 700 was a better performing sled than the the 800 XC.
    My father had a new sabercat 600 in 04. Another buddy had a XC 800 that 600 saber would eat up that 800. I know that cats stock clutching was a lot better than the Polaris clutching.
    When my father and i rode polaris we would always clutch ourselves and jet.
    Our polaris’a were always fast sleds.
    But anyhow great stuff keep up the great work.
    Thanks
    Josh.

    700 big block non VES Polaris is very impressive...or that F7 is tired ..? Also i think the track setup on the Polaris is better ...XC 700 had better use of its power and clutching.
    A fresh F7 with proper track setup and clutching should gap the XC quickly. what did they look like across the lake WFO top speed?
