I agree about thieves. About 15 years ago I was house-sitting for some good friends and also doing some work for them on their property. When they got back they called and said some chainsaws and tools were missing from a garage, and asked me I saw anything. I said the only thing I had seen was their teenage grandson riding his bicycle there a couple times, which they said was normal because he lived right around the corner. So I thought that was the end of it. A couple weeks later they went out of town overnight and didn't ask anybody to watch their place. When they got back they found the house broken into and a safe, rifles, jewelry and cameras missing. A week later their safe and what was left of the contents was found in the woods not too far from their place. As it turned out it was the grandson (who I had seen riding his bike) and one of his friends who did it. The kicker was that my friends pressed charges against their grandson, and immediately afterwards her son and daughter-in-law (parents of the kid) informed my friend that they would never speak to her again--- for pressing charges against a family member. My friend, who was a really nice lady, called me up distraught and asked me if she had screwed up by pressing charges, and I said she absolutely did the right thing and that her son and daughter-in-law should be ashamed of themselves. Ironically, even though my friend also pressed charges against other boy who participated in the burglary his parents never said a word.
Bro! Call Highway Products.....Explain what happened, they will send new keys or all new locks. Highways Products is a 100% custom diamond plate builder. They are located in White City Oregon.
I had a 2001.5 ctd. I sure do miss that truck. I'd love to own this one. Even though it's red. 😂 I still have parts in the garage. New seal kit for the vacuum pump and a new pull down cup holder assembly and roof mount sun glass holder etc etc.
Good find! Sometimes I try to find a decent deal on a used truck. Then I remember that only RUclipsrs find unicorn used trucks whose owners are oblivious of the current truck insanity and are just itching to give the truck away for practically nothing.
I’m not a RUclipsr. I just film some of my adventures. I Happen to know a few ppl that keep an eye out for me and help me find trucks to save. I gave a fair price for the amount work the truck needs. Both parties were happy he knew the market. Wanted it to go to a good home.
I'm not a RUclipsr either and I've had my $1,500 second gen 4 years now and it was sold because the rocker panels are about gone but still had solid floors and the front brake lines were rusted out so it now has almost all of them replaced with a complete set of stainless steel brake lines from a kit from classic tube out of ohio except for the ones up under the bed since they don't leak yet but they along with a brand new set of front rubber brake hoses are in the truck for when they do,i also have a complete engine gasket set for my truck and the replacement electrical ignition switch itself for when it goes out so i don't have to go hunt one down and wait after ordering it standard motor products new in the box... and my truck has the same stereo as the red one you picked up not the factory stereo for my truck but identical to the one i would have had it has been fully serviced, new belts and cleaned inside, solder flow and crack checked, and new LEDs and fully tested and it all works great the guy i got it from even tested it in his xj since this stereo is originally from a sj grand Cherokee
Those running boards are dealer add ons all day long. That’s a sweet truck. I remember the pamphlet for those trucks color matched back in the day and they were awesome looking then.
That 'skirt' package was all over here in NY on the Sport Trucks. Maybe they thought it would help 'salt damage', but not! I really like the 1/2 doors on the back! GM stopped doing that in 2012.5, that's why I bought the 2012 2500HD. You might have a lot of body work to do if you pull the skirts off to? Maybe take a peek under there? Nice solid truck though!! 8) --gary
Those running boards were a dealer option add on. Pretty rare to find those these days. You can tell that’s a 24 valve without opening the hood because the style sport package came out in 99. The 98 trucks never had that style badge on the door for the sports. Looks like you have a 2001.5 because of the dodge disc brake wheels. The leather seats with the rams head were only available from 2000-2001. Heated dual powered seats also came out in 2000.
As someone mentioned, it has power mirror wiring. Those early tow mirror retrofit kits came with a plug for the joystick and were full manual. I bought the kit for my 01 in 04 when the kit was still available from mopar
I had the identical truck but mine was a dually , red sport . My daily driver right now is a 94 regular cab dually 4x4 , 5 speed , that has those flares, and I can’t wait to take them off . They were on the truck from new and they collected all the salt behind them . I have lots of body work to do because of those flares. I vote for taking them off . Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦.
I bought the exact same truck but in silver 1.5 years ago from an old man that used to live in Alaska…it has 120k miles, leather, loaded, sport but with power mirrors. Came with a Cache huge insulated camper shell that you can almost stand up in. Wheel lips on bed are shot and couple small areas on front fenders but cab/doors are perfect like yours. Non 53 block, zero blow by, runs perfect but the trans needs fixing too…paid $4500
Just came across this video. I have an extremely similar truck that i’m working on right now. 01 2500 sport package. quad cab, long bed. Got it for cheap as the old owner said it was “knocking”. What actually happened with it, is that someone was doing some work, and didn’t tighten the flex plate bolts all the way. When we took it all out to potentially swap motors, we found some ovals where circles used to be… Ordered a new billet flex plate, has the 47re looked at and fixed up what needed to be fixed, and there where we’re at now. Paint is hellish on it, looks like the guy decided to sell in the middle of getting it painted. It’s in surprisingly good shape considering I’m in the rust belt. Frame is immaculate, cab corners have been redone, and someone attempted to redo the rear fender lips (they didn’t seem to know how to weld, we’ll leave it at that.) Love the videos, hated hearing about all the commiefornia emissions BS. Wishing you luck.
@Carl Walker : Yup, that's correct. Chrysler/Dodge only offered manual tow mirrors on the 2nd Gens. Aftermarket power & heated tow mirrors eventually became available, many years later. Just gotta add a mirror directional control switch in driver's door & a mirror on/off heat switch equipped HVAC control panel in dash, if not already equipped. Wiring harnesses are already pre-installed from the factory.
Those running boards are a factory option. Could get them color matched to the truck, or optioned to be the same color as the badging/ trim. Not many people did it, but you did have the option to match them to primary color, or even to the bottom trim line/ or lettering so really they could have potentially been white depending on who ordered it. They also matched them to the Daytona/ rumble bee package. However you obviously could not get them for work truck packages or Laramie for that matter.
I owned a truck accessory store in the 90s. Dodge never made those running boards. You could option them then Dodge upfitters would install them prior to delivering the truck to the dealership.
Yup they were dealer installed not a dodge factory part. I had a 2001 black sport club cab with em. 2wd lowered with a nice set of 18’s that looked pretty hot for the time. Don’t know if they were a Lund product but they were solid…… and ladies liked em lol
@@Slyder327 I had a 99 black 2wd sport with them and the white lettering like this truck is. I miss that thing sooo much. But I think my comment is being tAken out of context. I never said dodge made them. I said they were an option that’s it. Idk where everyone is getting the idea that I think they made them. I know they didn’t. But they were indeed fitted with them as an upgrade pack. Kinda like what Chevy is doing now with the black widow package.
Hey Tom! Good job fixin that binder! Can’t beat that deal at all Sam. A trans swap would be the deal once you strip the ground effects off of it. Those pickup packs are awesome too. Too bad that crackhead got the keys. I’m sure highway can slick you up with a new set though. We have the same outlook on thieves as well. Once they get caught by a good ol boy they’ll be cured forever.
Sweet find. You always seem to find them. It works in 4wheel drive but not 2 wheel drive, Sounds more like a transfer case problem than a transmission.

You got to put a paint matched tail light section.. That is what makes the sport package... I think at least.. Something as small as that really changed the rear look of the truck. I had a 97 sport. Miss it badly... rear doors didnt open.. .but it had the rear seats

Thanks for fixing that binder there Thomas. Taking those grandpa running boards/ body kit whatever they are is a no brainer in my opinion. Just that will make the truck look way different and cleaner
@@VBELTandSON I thought the exact same thing. Prolly leaked & ran the t-case outta oil. I'd be checking all possible things first before tearing anything all apart.
I have a 95 dually that used to have those running boards. I sold it to a buddy and he took them off. I bought truck back 10 years later. Don't know how those boards wound up on the 95
I had one with a short bed, lost the lift pump twice…auto and sold it with 120,000 for a new 2004 if memory doesn’t fail me….loved the truck and the sound of the 24V.
Oh i forgot to mention that the previous owner has replaced the front pump input shaft seal and torque converter so the transmission worked great in my truck and the front suspension is completely rebuilt and it doesn't wander all over the road when you drive it it drives eay better than most of them
Crazy shit this popped up on my RUclips. Just last week had someone break into my 6liter ford and steal the tuner and some other shit. Tried to take the whole truck, but the batteries were dead, lucky me. Out in rural Colorado where I never thought it would happen, I leave the keys in all my trucks too...sadly I have to be more careful and lock my trucks up now.
Nice rig...I've seen several like that so I think the fender skirting might be a factory sport option. Damned shame someone stole the keys. I would sell those bed tool boxes instantly, no use for them.
You sure know how to find a diamond in the rough Sam. 55 block w/ fresh pumps is a winner as well. Would love to see another manual tranny swap on your channel. Definitely take off the running boards etc. because it'll look better and you know you want to! Oh and great job on the binder Tom! 🤙
If I’d buy it I’d say leave the runners on it you put the boxes in whatever truck ya want them for she’s my color but probably not my price I can have hopes and dreams lol
I bought a 95 12v.to.sell. Bodies.beat up, needs a built trans if wanted to be worked. Spent the summer painting the frame, every U joint is new, new upper and lower XFR lifetime ball joints, aluminum radiator, Cummins t stat etc. Etc. Sold on eBay 4 times. Highest was 6k , never got paid. So it sold in Nov for 4250. So far I have a $750.deposit. please make it make sense. 100% positive feedback with thousands of sales
Jon Killian : Simple, 3 reasons: 1.) Diesel prices skyrocketed. Still at $5.00 to $6.00/gallon, nobody can afford diesel, unless a business owner. 2.) People don't READ ad postings properly. 3.) With a junk transmission, your truck isn't worth over $2,000, & with a beat up body, $1,500.
Take off the fiberglass boards, pull those toolbox’s and rack outta the bed, and a good pressure wash and buff. And that truck will look brand new…. Definitely put a sport tail light back in tho. Don’t do a black stock one. Those paint matched tails set the truck off….. and reason there’s no mirror switch, those are factory tow mirrors. Dodge didn’t offer power tow mirrors back then. Nice score tho. Definitely diamond in the rough
I think those side pieces are factory. I have seen them on other sport package trucks. I still don’t like them either. But I would say it’s a rare truck.
Great deal pity knucklehead stole the keys it will a good project truck I got a soft spot for Dodge diesel trucks I got rid of my 02 but I'm never lucky like you to find them like you're still hoping for some kinda miracle to find me one some day
My dad ordered his 01 qcsb 6spd with tow mirrors. 2nd gen oem tow mirrors from the factory were not power, they didn’t become power until the 2003 3rd gen’s
I used to hate those side skirts. The more I see the old trucks those side skirts save the trucks in the rust belt. Cuts down on the destruction to the underside of the trucks! Can you call the tool box manufacturer and get a set of keys made?
Glad they didn’t get away with the truck. Those dodge second gen Cummins are too easy to steal. My ignition switch died 200 miles from home. Well a few jumper wires and the thing was back on the road. It was scary easy. I’m no car thief by any means and after a RUclips vid, had my truck starter within 10 minutes
You rly need a land plane for your your tractor bud 😎👍Rly glad the truck didn't get stolen. Sucks when that happens though.. I'm in the middle but those side pieces. Might just look better with them off. Might be right my friend 🤔

They are Factory it was an option on the sport mine has fender flares but not the running boards awesome find keep up the great videos
I just removed those same body moldings/steps. They were installed with self tapping screws! 😡. Lucky mine was a 1500 2nd gen 😂
Paw paw steps would have to go hero 😂😂👍
I wondered how many were living in that red truck when you open the door?
You can keep the boxes and stuff
Oughta be easy enough to order a set of tumblers or whole assembly’s from that Highway products company. They’ve got good stuff
Take off the Lear aftermarket running boards. They were clutch in late 80s to midish 90s then fizzled out after that..
Should be able to contact hi-way products and get new keys for the box’s
Wish I could find em second gens like you do
I am always looking. They aren’t as easy to find as you would think
If I’d buy it I’d say leave the runners on it you put the boxes in whatever truck ya want them for she’s my color but probably not my price I can have hopes and dreams lol
I just gave my oldest daughter my 1998 dodge , same color and same black tool box on back. 140 mil. O how I miss it . 😂
Jon Killian :
Simple, 3 reasons:
1.) Diesel prices skyrocketed. Still at $5.00 to $6.00/gallon, nobody can afford diesel, unless a business owner.
2.) People don't READ ad postings properly.
3.) With a junk transmission, your truck isn't worth over $2,000, & with a beat up body, $1,500.
I hope you don't remove thoes Stepsides I love those stepsides on the 2nd gen trucks
I used to work with a guy that had that identical truck and all the flares were factory options.
What a steal!yes take off the trim! From your Rough and Ready Neighbor
defiantly take the fiberglass off the truck. re key the tool boxes and sell them separately 6speed manual swap it and I might buy it from you.
Those slide boards were an option
that's why ya keep a good "boot knife"....
Heck yeah Sam 👍💪🏻
Great deal pity knucklehead stole the keys it will a good project truck I got a soft spot for Dodge diesel trucks I got rid of my 02 but I'm never lucky like you to find them like you're still hoping for some kinda miracle to find me one some day
I just sold an 01 sport shortbed with an NV5600. Engines are great, VP44 pumps suck.
I never really liked vp44 but all they need is a good solid lift pump and they are mean
My dad ordered his 01 qcsb 6spd with tow mirrors. 2nd gen oem tow mirrors from the factory were not power, they didn’t become power until the 2003 3rd gen’s
My 2001 3500 Laramie with sport on top had power heated towing mirrors
Allso bought new
them boards are factory with the sport option
