Has this tip helped you? Here is a free way to help me. Crap all those tools you were talking about to go into full production mode you should seriously consider investing in a 5lb brass hammer and cut yourself a huge stump to bolt your vise down to and consider getting a vise with a thrust bearing. I'm an old man and it wore me out watching you kill the metal strap you were bending LOL. Of course I love watching your videos because your all ❤️ when it comes to your Jeep!! Keep the videos rolling heck I'm getting myself a 1989 YJ now because of you. Be Good and Have A Happy!! Because the West Virginia Hillbilly Hobo loves ya!!!!
Great video I made one. I clamped the fabricated steel and the latch together in the vice and ran my tap down thru the threaded latch and then tapped the new metal. This way the threads matched up perfectly. FYI You could do it on the jeep by using the third bolt to hold it in place then run your tap thru the other two holes.
+chris aragon Thanks man. It's fun doing the videos. I get emails and comments about how some of the vids have saved someone money. Although it is fun, the comments of how it helped someone is a great reminder that the extra time does pay off.
That was an issue fo me, i always was nervous about leaving my yj while on the lake....now i know what ll do...and above that i ll put a screamer if they have the nerves to destroy the padlodck.....thanks power addicts.
There is a state park near my house that I go hiking or running the trails. There has been occasions to where fisherman come back to their trucks to find the battery has been stolen. Just one step to keep stuff safe as I can. I'm gathering the parts to build an OBA, that will be another video as soon I get all the parts. Thanks for commenting, liking and sharing my videos!! Have a great day!
I just woke up stressed from a crazy dream where some crackhead put something in all of my fluids under the hood while I was in some sketchy gas station. This inspired me to come watch this video as i've seen the title in my recommended videos from watching your other videos. This is a great idea and tutorial, I'll definitely have to make this. Thanks!
Hays Smith When I go trail running, I lock it to prevent my battery from getting stolen. Glad you liked the video :-) Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! Have a great day!
I may need to do this mod. One night on school campus I was studying in library and after 1.5hr of studying a couple buddies of mine call me and said they left a surprise for me when I got to my jeep in parking lot. Turns out when I walked outside and saw my jeep those m'fers opened the hood and left it propped up. Lol great vid a lot of good info here.
09adge13 Looks like it would be a good idea to make you one. I did it because I like to trail run, there is a nice trial that starts at a boat launch. There have been times as to where people out fishing come back to discover that their batter had been stolen. Luckily yours was just a joke but someone could have easily helped themselves with the hood propped up. Thanks for checking out the video, have a great day!!
+chris aragon Thanks man. Honestly, I actually agree with his idea also. I've thought about remaking the "locking tab" to incorporate that into it, just never have. So far I haven't lost a lock. But, I have my duh moments. I'm sure I will eventually. Thanks for droppin a line! Have a good one man!! :-)
dude seriously, get a PATENT! also Make me one I will buy it, lol. Great idea and Great video. Thanks man. oh I really would buy one by the way hahaha.
I've been told that a few times. :-) . I've thought about making another one. but just a little longer to make another hole to store the lock when its not locking the hood latch. Thanks for dropping in and leaving a great comment! Have a great day!
Hey, do you happen to have a vid or some type of tutorial for the tool tube that you talked about in the heater core vid? I can't seem to find it...it's an unbelievably awesome idea.
I'm currently not making them for resale. But, I've gotten so many requests that I'm starting to consider making some to sell. If I do, I'll let ya know. Thanks for dropping in!
can you make a video on windshield wipers and windshield Motors how to install windshield blade goes up only halfway that's all wondering what is wrong
Eventually I'll be in that part of the dash / windshield. I need to replace the seal between windshield frame and body. I have no idea when I'll do it. Simply because the screws that hold down the seal are usually rusted and need to be drilled out. I gotta have plenty of free time to get it all done and back together. So .. eventually yes .. when? I have no idea.
I can't help but think that I would leave a longer piece of flat stock under the section that you drilled to lock the hood lever. I would drill a 1/2 inch hole in that extended section so that when I unlock my hood, I can put the lock there and not lose it, or leave it on the trail. Good video though. Well done.
That would actually be a good idea. As long as "regular style" pad locks was used, your idea would work great. That lock I was using in the video would have been a bit cumbersome to deal with because of such little clearance where the lock shank goes through the lock body. The way I am about loosing things, I may incorporate your idea into the next version and use a regular pad lock. Thanks for your input, it's very much appreciated! Glad you liked the video! Have a great day!
Thanks for checking out the video! There have been times where I considered making this as a kit. I've had many requests. I'll take note of your RUclips channel name and contact you if I decide to make them as a kit. Out of curiosity, what do you feel would be a fair price to pay for a complete kit?
great dyi video, but I'd buy one from you if you start making a kit. I've got 7 year old twins and they don't let me tinker in the garage without doing something they shouldn't be doing. in other words my time is spent watching them.
Glad you like the video. I've tossed around the idea of making the kit. Just stay so busy with other stuff that I don't know that if could keep up with the production if the kit took off really well. Enjoy those twins! Mine are grown and gone. One has a baby girl of his own now. Time passes way too fast. Have a great day!
+Korey Replogle Thanks, glad you liked it .. I never really ventured into it. I put "feelers" out on forums and such, never got much of a response. I think if I did, I'm gonna add about another inch at the bottom with another hole as a way to store the lock. I made a note to myself to contact you if I made any others. Thanks for checking out the video and have a great day!
Thanks!! I've had my grill like that for a while now. Been thinking of changing it up somehow. Thanks for dropping in and leaving a cool comment! Have a great day!
Sorry bud, I've thought about it but honestly, I'm not really interested in making them. Thats why I make the videos, so people can learn to do it themselves. I already work a full time 45 - 50 hour a week job. Not looking to create another one. If I ever do, I'll hit ya up in te comments to let ya know. Thanks, have a great day!!
#1 you obviously haven't bought a battery lately. #2 there are bicycle cable lock through the door frames. They aren't going anywhere. Have a great day!
Great work. Disadvantages 1..there will be so much noise when the padlock is hitting the mesh when you drive on a bad road. 2.Better to us a small inconspicuous padlock sight of the padlock at the hood mouth is making it look awkward as if you gat a treasure therein.

no problem.. I like how you walk us through everything you're going
+chris aragon Thanks man. It's fun doing the videos. I get emails and comments about how some of the vids have saved someone money. Although it is fun, the comments of how it helped someone is a great reminder that the extra time does pay off.
Neat idea. One thing I would have done differently would be to heat the metal with a propane torch to allow it to bend easier
That was an issue fo me, i always was nervous about leaving my yj while on the lake....now i know what ll do...and above that i ll put a screamer if they have the nerves to destroy the padlodck.....thanks power addicts.
I sometimes go hiking on trails. This one place I go has been known to have batteries stolen from cars. So I lick my hood to protect the battery
Thanks for walking us through every little step, it really helps out a dummy like me.
Up North. Put a piece of Electrical tape over the lock hole to keep the crud out.
Well done...I'll be doing this soon. Got to keep that york compressor safe

+furi29 Thank you very much! Glad you liked it. Have a great day!
i like tim hunt idea leave a 1/2 stock over for a hole to put lock into rather then lose it somewhere .....nice video
+chris aragon Thanks man. Honestly, I actually agree with his idea also. I've thought about remaking the "locking tab" to incorporate that into it, just never have. So far I haven't lost a lock. I guess I would expect an item like this to sell for about $50 if it was offered at Quadratec or other similiar outfits.
great dyi video, but I'd buy one from you if you start making a kit. I've got 7 year old twins and they don't let me tinker in the garage without doing something they shouldn't be doing. in other words my time is spent watching them.

Cool
Glad you like it! Have a great day!
I'd be more worried about someone stealing thoes $ 600 dollar soft doors than a $80 dollar battery.
