I have never seen this series before. I was raised in a no TV environment. Now at 67 I discovered them. I love the shows warmth and the ‘back in time’ scenes. Simple, functional family!
Functional?! You oughta see the episode where Doug (the dad) takes his son (Willie) to a strip club for his 21st birthday because Willie was whining about being "lost" in deciding his life's direction. Nice, functional, father figure. Then, their daughter (Nancy) is consistently causing drama due to her need to be liked by men (sometimes any man). They let both live in their guest house for free while they were "pulling themselves together).
This was one of my favorite shows after we got married, my husband worked during the day, I was in nursing school, after he got off work he went to college for his engineering degree. The tv was my bff so many good shows in the late 70s. PS we both graduated, had 3 kids built a house and are still together, 43 years. Thanks for uploading these shows. Brings back the good old days.
loved this episode!!! had such a crush on John Friedrich the actor who played the blind student. This was a wonderful show so well acted Sada thompson was a incredible actress!
Alberta gave us Heartland, a similar family drama that I also follow. I know it's modern, but Heartland duplicates some of the same storylines, like when Amy Fleming was kicked in the head by a horse and temporarily went blind. I'm also a screenwriter, and this type of show follows a certain formula, often with little deviation. Classes on how to develop such a property are taught in film school, along with how to develop a movie franchise and how to shoot low budget horror, my particular art. For every interest there is someone to satisfy it. Thanks for keeping us working.
I like this show Family from the 70's. Kate is caring person to help this poor young guy who became blind. This is very sad episode it hard for this young guy who could see and now he became permanently blind he can't have normal life anymore and he need people to help them.
Thank you for posting this show!! I have never heard of this show until earlier this month. I love the characters’ acting, and the family values that are instilled. I wish we had more shows like this one during these times.
I enjoyed the show when it first aired but now recognize their “values” weren’t so virtuous-oldest daughter got married, pregnant and divorced by 22 and their oldest son dropped out of high school, flitting from job to job and older women.
@@DiegoRamirez-zc7fs Their values were very good. They had problems, as all people do, but they tried to deal with them with wisdom and compassion. Kate especially had an amazing sense of how counsel others when values and reason clashed with passion and circumstance.
I remember watching Family back in the day,my friend Matt had a huge crush on Kristy,Star Trek posters on one wall, and Kristy 's Teen and Tiger Beat posters on the other wall. One day he came up with a plan,we called Twentieth Century Fox Studios, after a couple of failed attempts,he said he was her Uncle from Philadelphia, they put us through to the Family set,the told us she would be on a brake in ten minutes and to call back,we did they got her on the phone, and for 3 or 4 minutes we got to talk with her, she ended with, maybe we'll meet someday,by . We were beside ourselves. The next day we went to school and told everybody that we talked with Kristy from Family, well as you can imagine, with the exception of one girl no one else believed us. We use to watch her as co-host the Mike Douglas show,we hoped that he would ask her about the strangest fan encounter she ever had,we were sure she'd say about the 2 guys that called the studio, one claiming to be her uncle from Philadelphia, alas he never ask ,and she never said 😢. I believe it was in September of 1976.
Everybody needs to watch this episode. One of my favorites. This episode reminds me of enabling in the drug addict sense of the word. Tough love at work here. Thanks for the upload.
It makes me glad to hear how many people saw the warmth and love in this family show. For me, it seems sort of down. The minor note theme music, the photos that all seem melancholy, and the mom is eternally sad. She never smiles a true smile, just seems to walk around the house looking a bit dejected but holding it together. Clearly I am in the minority in seeing it this way, but just had to put in my take on it.
This WHOLE thing is so PERFECTLY INTERTWINED IT'S DELICIOUS!! Kate won't listen. Robert can't see. Doug won't let Kate coddle him and neither will Buddy. When Kate finds Robert to coddle now Doug wants Kate to coddle Doug. Buddy is conveniently away from this mess allowing Kate to be there for Robert when he needs it and Buddy returns just in time to take Kate away from Robert when Kate is coddling Robert too much.
Thank you for allowing me to watch one of my favorite shows I grew up with in the late 1970s brings back so many memories can you see if you can please find the entire seasons one be blessed
This was a hard episode to watch. It spoke volumes to me with what I'm actually going thru with my youngest son. Very deep episode. It very much spoke volumes. Wow🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
It’s 2023 and I like this show much Real family issues Don’t always agree the way they resolve issues Much better than the garbage that is on 📺 these days Maybe I’m just getting old 😊
I share everyone’s expression(s) about being able to watch this wonderful show. I admired Kristy McNichol when I was a kid & an early teen. Looking at her I thought she had such an endearing quality about her...I thought she had such a perky perfect nose... & upon further observation I think she resembles Julia Roberts, could play sisters. Thank you so very much for posting to RUclips!!! 😊😃🤩
@@juliepeters3716 I never realized how similar those two looked, but upon reflection, I’m betting that was intentional on the film’s part. They were both the favored sons, both the products of the affairs of true love.
I would think that Doug would hate Willie because Willie is not Kate but Willie wants Doug to join in on Willie's hobbies. As it turns out Doug starts to get into Willie's hobbies and if you look at another episode where Doug reverts to his former hobby of astronomy, Willie gets into it. Willie wants to quit but then Doug's sense of it you start something you ARE GOING to FINISH IT OR thou shalt be DAMNED!!! kicks in. Now when THE PROJECT is almost completed and Doug is starting to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride and as Doug put it the best part is at hand, Doug gets pulled away by John. The timing in these pieces is exquisite.
In the 70s I was a painfully shy teenager. I used to want to be like Buddy, or Barbara and Julie from One Day At A Time, and Laura & Mary from Little House On The Prairie
What gets me is the hard shoes in the house...lol...we had to take our shoes off at the door and wear slippers in the house. This family was not my family and yet it was. I think it's the ideal. Kept together by tradition and love, but there are always problems. You overcome them or come apart.

I don’t know how to feel about Kate. Sometimes I feel like she’s glaring all the time, other times I feel like she has a lot of snide comments and sometimes like she speaks in a monotone voice. The show is “nice” but not very realistic, imo. Or maybe it’s just how my family was but my parents certainly didn’t seem to care that I was getting older or come talk to me if I had a problem or get involved in arguments with my siblings as we have gotten older. My parents stayed out of our fights and didn’t take sides.
I love her so much, she reminds me of my own mother and grandmother in so many ways. This show is so much like my own upbringing in the late 70s and the 80s. 👍🏽💯🤗

Once in awhile Decades will run the whole Family series on a weekend but the problem is our area took Decades off the on air station.
