This show too, is helping me get through the worse period of my Life! My Darling Daughter passed away. It has been 10mos. I too watched this show, so Many years ago! Little did I know then, this show in a strange was a prelude, to what I would experience. ❤️
I hated this show when it was in prime time. I went out of my way to avoid it. I especially hated the character Kate the couple of times I was forced to watch it. Then, just a few years later, a local UHF station started repeating the episodes in the afternoons, five times a week. Not only did I get hooked on the show, but Kate turned out being my favorite character. Lol.... Go Figure! 😂
My mom hit a kid when I was about 10(I was not in the car). He darted out from hedges from her left on a bicycle, rolled up on her hood into the windshield and slid off. He broke his leg and was worried about his bike. The cops measured the skid marks my mom left and found she was well within the legal limits of driving. The mom started giving my mom a hard time, until several neighbors started showing up and defending her saying the kid was all over the roads all the time and not being watched. My mom then proceeded to her mom's, took 2 Valiums and had a shot - she was catatonic - it rattled her nerves something fierce. Funny thing was, this kid ended up sitting next to me about 7 years later at a study hall. We became friends when he told me the story and my mind was blown. We laughed and joked about it, but it took my mom quite a while to get over it.
My little brother rode right out of our driveway at high speed on his purple banana bike and slid underneath a passing car in '73. He went all the way underneath and emerged on the other side without injuries. The poor driver was a wreck though.
My sister had the same thing happen, she had only just passed her test and this kid came out of nowhere and hit her car. He was only shaken but my sister was a mess and she has never ever driven a car since. That was over 38 years ago.
I hit a Kid that was running along the sidewalk in the same direction. Next thing I know she turns and runs right in front of me. I hit her and she flew in the air and landed with a thud. I stopped and got out but others had stopped as well and she was still just laying there. I thought I had killed her. Then she all of a sudden gets up and starts yelling and running around. Someone was trying to comfort me as I sat in the car but once she started yelling and that I got angry. She wasn't speaking English so it took some time to find her Mother. I was told it wasn't my fault and to just go by the Police. I never forgot it either but I stayed angry for a long time. She had no business being alone and no reason to turn in the middle of the block and dash right into the road. Children must be taught to cross at corners and never come out from between two parked cars. Guess I'm still 😠 angry.
Amazing how in these series the people don't watch TV.at least I haven't seen them watcing TV in many episodes.but they eat and drink healthy.and most of the time the family members gather around to eat and that's important too.these series are very family oriented.wonderful!!
Kate and Doug decided to get rid of the TV after Buddy watched Battle of the Network Stars and freaked out when she saw Kristy Mcnichol competing in the triathlon, she said holy wow I can't believe that chick looks like she could be my twin!!

We had a pet raccoon, Ms.Doobie. She used to take baths with my sister and I. She actually belonged to my Mom who was a lover of all animals and would nurse lots of animals back to health.
I also was bit on the shoulder by a stray cat that jumped on me ( I was about 3 and don’t remember it happening). My parents had to trap the cat so they could take it to be tested for rabies. I’m not sure where they took the cat, vet maybe? But they had to put the cat down and cut its head off to be tested. The cat didn’t have rabies.
Raccoons make noises called "chittering". The audio department must not have had that sound effect available, so they substituted a guinea pig squeak. I laughed, having owned one 😂
Me, too! I recognized that guinea pig squeak immediately. The minute Buddy mentioned she was getting a raccoon... I thought, "oh crap, that is a BAD idea.." Kate, the mom in this series, always struck me as cold and distant. Also, one thing that's odd in this episode is that she worries almost _constantly_ about the potential precognition of her dream. I sure do miss my formative years like in this tv show. I am 51 years young so I was buddy’s age in the 70s! Maybe even younger! More like Annie’s age tbh. I still long for these ethics to be in my world now, but,, good luck with that longing! Never in a million years! They can redo our 70s and 80s but they can never redo how we were! My dad had a Pinto wagon. Coolest back seats EVER! They were angled down, you "sunk" into them. My dad finally sold it and came into the kitchen, where my sister and I were sitting. He threw seven $100 bills on the table I freaked the fuck out! I was about 6 or 7, thought that was all the money in the world. Silly me.
@@theartofwar7806 my Mom had one too. I would sit all the way in the back so I didn't have to sit by my brother. We didn't worry about being seat belted in back then. He didn't even tell her until she asked where I was. My brother and I got along so well. Lol. Btw. I was ok! An older lady saw it happen. It was in front of her house and sat with me until my Mom came back. Can you imagine if that happened these days? My mother would have been arrested.
@@jogirl770 Great story. Times were much more fun. My Moms' passenger door would swing open and hit garbage cans in the alley. We all rode in the the back of the truck to Baseball Games. One time my friend and I snuck from the back of the truck into the trailer while were stopped at a gas station. It was hilarious and scary and so much fun. We never really thought about how much trouble my Parents would've been in. We went for a least an hour before they pulled over and we got out and opened the back of the truck. They weren't really sure whether we had done it or just pretended to do it. God we laughed that Summer; we were both turning 13 and on a trip to Victoria.
I've had premonition dreams before that have come true (symbolic and non-symbolic). It's not to avoid the future events, but to learn how to cope. It's a gift from God to help you think about the situation before it happens to help you learn how to cope when it happens. :)

I miss the Love Boat. It still makes me grin from ear to ear. I watched some Charlie's Angels and couldn't believe how much I missed the music. Brought back such happy feelings.
This really happened right down the street from me .... the woman driving did not even know she hit a school kid that had tried to run across the street until their passenger told her. She dragged the boy to the curb under her truck killing him, 8 years old and a memorial sits at the space now. Air date: May 2, 1978
Spooky episode 😎 the bouncing ball reminds me of the movie The Changeling which has a similar feeling but is much scarier, it came out 2 years later in 1980. It is a good choice if you liked this one. There definitely was more interest in the supernatural in that era, now we have more science to rely on.
I find Sherri annoying. Buddy should have stuck to Audrey and she wouldn't have gotten bitten. Chewed out, given the silent treatment and put on a guilt trip maybe, but not bitten.
I got hit by a car while walking home from school when I was in elementary school. The lady was driving too fast around the corner, and there was gravel on the road, so she "rolled" sideways on top of the gravel into me. I went flying, only a few feet.
@@XxowendanxX Wouldn't the woman who gave Buddy the raccoon to care for have known if the animal had had a rabies vaccination? Wouldn't the Lawrences have insisted on its being vaccinated before allowing it at their home? The hospital could have called her to find out that information and possibly gotten a rabies tag number, and that would have saved a lot of the uncertainty.
@@vivianpowell1732 the animal was found injured in the wild, he didn't have any kind of vaccination or any other type of medical certificate that one may find for a domestic animal. As far as the Lawrences not allowing the raccoon in the house due to safety concerns, this was the 1970s. The phenomenon of people attempting via procedures to create an entirely risk free existence is something that got it's start at some point over the last 20 to 30 years so no, Buddy wanted to help the raccoon get well and I'm sure it never crossed the Lawrences' mind for even a fleeting moment to forbid Buddy from bringing the raccoon in the house or otherwise attempting to do her part to help him get better.
@@XxowendanxX Really? You make the 1970s sound like ancient history. My family had two dogs back in the 1950s and we had them vaccinated for rabies every year and put their tags on. Both measures were required by our county, even for dogs such as ours who lived indoors with a fenced backyard for outdoor needs. One child in our community was bitten by a wild animal who escaped, so he had to receive the older treatment (3 shots in the stomach) that the doctor in this Family episode mentioned. The 1950s also saw the development of the polio vaccine for humans. Vaccines for measles and mumps came along in the 1960s. Our society was not naive about taking protective measures before the time when you came along, as you would have us believe. Your perspective suggests you are relatively young.
Airdate May 2nd, 1978. I remember seeing this when it aired. 40:34 Her precognitive dream came true, but Mrs. Lawrence was able to change it. Have you ever had a precognitive dream? I have. We only think time is linear, but it all happens at once and some people can tap into the future, especially in dreams. Anyway this was one of the best episodes. Too bad the others got so schmaltzy, and too bad Willie the dork was always around.
I think the explanation for precognition can be found in chaos theory. Albert Einstein once said, "Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana." I can understand the appeal (appeel?) of the banana, but what do the time flies see in the arrow? No arrow I've ever seen would be good eating... HAIL ERIS! ALL HAIL DISCORDIA!!!
Well...acting style, anyway. We don't know this was how either of them were at home. People who knew James say nice things about him but OTOH fans who don't know actors tend to think the actors are just like their parts and that may not be true. James was pretty much just displaying the standard good guy "background" supportive style role. Matthew has a lost little boy-ish shruggie-shruggie thing that he still plays off of. I mean you're looking at acting roles. Neither seemed/seems (obviously James is long gone now) to be incredibly versatile - each nailed a "type" and has acted that particular part, more or less. (Straight man/good guy for James, straight man/little boyish for Matthew.) I'm not being disrespectful, I do like them both.
@@Juliet_Capulet I like your comment, I like your thinking...it isn’t superficial criticism based upon a limited perspective but the overall reality of actors & the expectation they’re expected to agree to based on the script written specifically for their character. Willie: "Trouble is.. I enjoy a good meal" :D "The little boy could be Doug.....or it could have been something you ate that disagreed with you" "I ate after I dreamt"
Lol, I can't even get the doctor's admin staff to answer the phone. Also, who calls a hospital and says "let me speak to Dr. Weiss", as if he is a friend.
19:21 "I was tryin to brake but I couldnt find the right pedal" was the important message for Kate: work on your brake pedal reflexes! - not "how did the boy look like?"
It's a real thing. I've had it happen many times. I believe that's how Deja Vue works. You dream what's going to happen then when it does, you feel the Deja Vue as you recall that particular moment of the dream. So fascinating, it means things are planned out ahead of time.
@@mississippimud7046 thank you for sharing that. I love the validation. I've had so many strange things happen that I love to hear others have experienced similar paranormal type events. I remember having dreams as a Child that later came true as an Adult. I went through a period of a few years where I had Deja Vue a hundred times. Then it tapered off. It's been super interesting but not too many people can relate to it. Glad to know I'm not alone. 🙂
A raccoon is not a pet. And even if you were keeping one temporarily to try to rehab an injury or something (which I did not hear mentioned in the episode, anyway) it would be inhumane to keep it confined in such a tiny cage with no bedding or any soft material for it to lay on comfortably. Buddy shows her usual poor judgement in treating a wild animal this way and the parents for whatever reason go along with it. I realize that Kate is the sensible parent of the two of them and she was going through something of her own at the time so I will cut her some slack but Doug should also know better.
That's what I'm saying. I hate when animals are used in entertainment. And it is RIDICULOUS that they would observe the raccoon for any extended period before giving Buddy rabies vaccination. The minute you show even one symptom of rabies, you are dead, nothing can help you.

Copy clothing and music etc. but never will succeed with the rest peeps! Sorry!!! We’re one of a kind!
I remember station wagons when I was a kid. Always wished we had one but my mom thought she was too cool.
One day I was messing with the latch and I actually fell out when my Mom went around a corner. My mother didn't notice until about a mile down the road. My brother watched the whole thing! He didn't even tell her until she asked where I was. My brother and I got along so well. Lol.
Btw. I was ok! An older lady saw it happen. It was in front of her house and sat with me until my Mom came back.
Can you imagine if that happened these days? My mother would have been arrested.
Station Wagons were not cool. At all. Your Mom was right.
@@lorimiller4301 Good times back then and we survived!
I knew Kate was going to wreck, she does rolling stops, at stop signs.
Becki Green well, “ slow and go” is California🤷🏼♀️
@@lisapelarske1634 You do get busted for it, though. (Californian here)
Yes she appears to drive really fast too!
She had to get back home without delay. The bottle of wine was patiently waiting for her.
I've had premonition dreams before that have come true (symbolic and non-symbolic). It's not to avoid the future events, but to learn how to cope. It's a gift from God to help you think about the situation before it happens to help you learn how to cope when it happens. :)
one of my favorite shows i looked forward to seeing each week.another is Eight is Enough..id like to see all them episodes posted to..Thanks for Family..brings back greattt memorys of the 70's
I miss the Love Boat. It still makes me grin from ear to ear. I watched some Charlie's Angels and couldn't believe how much I missed the music. Brought back such happy feelings.
I wish one could watch Eight is Enough without a laugh track, though. xoxo
I liked that show too they don't make them like those anymore
Today's is sex n violence
SADA!
She’s sure into the California stops🤣
This really happened right down the street from me .... the woman driving did not even know she hit a school kid that had tried to run across the street until their passenger told her. She dragged the boy to the curb under her truck killing him, 8 years old and a memorial sits at the space now.
Air date: May 2, 1978
The friend doesn’t eat meat but she puts a sweet baby raccoon in a cage?! Talk about being a hypocrite.
That cage is too small!
If Kate is a careful driver, how come she doesn't always stop at stop signs. She merely slows down.
Talk about abuse... keeping a Raccoon in a small cage. Sick.
Directed by Georg Stanford Brown, who played on the Rookies, another Spelling-Goldberg show.
...Also appeared in Roots, & ex-husband of actress Tyne Daly.
Fear of Shadows is a fantastic episode. I am glad I can't drive. I would be afraid to kill somebody and I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
11:16 SHE JUST RAN A SECOND STOP SIGN AFTER ALMOST HITTING A TRUCK! 11:33 AND A THIRD ONE!
It's soothing show
Spooky episode 😎 the bouncing ball reminds me of the movie The Changeling which has a similar feeling but is much scarier, it came out 2 years later in 1980. It is a good choice if you liked this one. There definitely was more interest in the supernatural in that era, now we have more science to rely on.
Great show....but their small, squeaky bed just cracks me up! Someone's gonna fall out😅
I remember this one….years ago,but this one was different 👀🇺🇸🕊
I remember watching this episode, it was ok, but kind of stupid cause what kid plays in the dark outside...
Poor Kate, her day keeps getting worse and worse, and on no sleep.
Why is the raccoon making guinea pig sounds?!!🤣🤦🏼
Why didn’t Doug drive the rental and she drive his?
Our travelingzoo usually insurance only covers the person who was in the incident, the person who actually was in the incident, Doug wasn't .
Plot point..... else no episode.
Come on, man, give that poor raccoon a bigger cage
Raccoon should not be living in a cage. Free the raccoon.
@@denisespurlock7869 I think he had been injured and they were trying to nurse him back to health before letting him back into the wild.
I’ve never heard a raccoon 🦝 make that noise .
Why does the instructor only believe in pre-recognition on even numbered days?? (30:38) WTH??
It was a joke showing that she is superstitious too. That's why she said it that way.
Why are the streets so dark😠
Jim Broderick must be who Matthew inherited his personality from
You mean no personality🤔

I like your comment, I like your thinking...it isn’t superficial criticism based upon a limited perspective but the overall reality of actors & the expectation they’re expected to agree to based on the script written specifically for their character. An actors only as good as the script they’re intended to follow.
@@sarahreid3467 You must come from a stupid loud over-emotive trash culture.
I didn't know that raccoons sound just like guinea pigs.
They actually don’t make noises like that, they chitter or make a trilling sound. My aunt & uncle had a pet raccoon.
Look at that Buddy going plant based😅
I wouldn't have raccoon for a pet it's still wild animal... Mom told me never make wild animal a pet...
The animal had been injured and they were trying to help him get well before letting him loose
We had pet skunks as kids back in the 70's. They were actually very sweet and gentle, but they scared hell out of the mailman :).

That station wagon is wicked loud.

That was a small bed
I guess its just a regular double bed like most couples had in those days. It was before most people had queen size beds.
Willie: "Trouble is.. I enjoy a good meal" :D

Too bad great series too many ADs
The Twilight zone moment. 23:50
Why would they let her have a pet raccoon in the city?
Was that "Family" or the twilight zone?
Kate doesn't stop at stop signs. Just slows down...
I got a ticket for that once. It's called a rolling stop.
What doctor answers the phone????
Dr Weiss.

@@lorimiller4301 - it's trippy.
@@lorimiller4301 I know exactly what you are talking about as I have experienced this many times
I wish sometimes that the commercials were still in there.... lol
I LOVE 70s TV commercials, and I look them up on youtube. They just don't make commercials like that anymore.
I bought my 1st skateboard cuz of Kristie
I wish I had! I missed out on skateboarding.
Me too and Jean Overalls. Shag haircut.
For a few seconds I thought this was an episode of " One Step Beyond. "
That poor coon in that tiny cage
That's what I'm saying. I hate when animals are used in entertainment.
And it is RIDICULOUS that they would observe the raccoon for any extended period before giving Buddy rabies vaccination. The minute you show even one symptom of rabies, you are dead, nothing can help you.
Oh Kate you were listening to rap music, in your dream, I mean nightmare!
Slightly hypocritical caging wild animals while quoting Albert
