I lost my beloved daughter three months ago, and I am having a terrible time “ getting on” with life. I came upon these sweet episodes of Family, and I seem to be drawn to watching them. I don’t seem to hurt so bad when I watch them, I remember back in the late 70’s when my parents, sister, and even grandparents were alive, and my beautiful child was young and healthy. I much prefer this world to the one that is forced upon me now. 💔💔💔💔💔

I’m hurting and aching badly as well….for similar and different reasons…..but I still can feel the immensity of your loss and pain…..I too watch this show & tons of 70s/80s movies and shows…..to “live” in another time, a time that was more simple for me….I’m 52….I was 8 in 1979…..I barely have anything left now…..I’m so sorry…..I hope you have some love in your life…..some ….relief…..

I am so sorry for your losses, both of you. I am also finding something in these episodes, something soothing. I started watching just for the nostalgia, but now I'm completely hooked on them. I think I am getting something valuable from the parenting of Kate and even from Doug. Take care, I hope the best for you.

This happened to me. I was a young adorable 19 year old and my dad just died in an automobile accident in Italy.
I was so vulnerable, but I figured this ass out. He was the boss, and invited me to lunches and then his family cabin. He said his whole family would be there. I found out just in time his family was in Mexico.
I told him off, publicly. It was a great feeling, I saw everyone in the office hanging out of their offices watching me putting him in his place.
I was fired. The next day. It was 1973 and I didn’t think I could do anything about it.
I figured karma would catch up to him eventually.

@blueberrycobbler but you just pulled that out of your head. Its just whst you guess, whst you figure, your opinion. The truth is, the psychologists, the family therapists, the addiction counselors say that it is. And if it were not chemical dependence, they wouldn't do it every day. And that's not even talking did they really have only 1? Or was it 1 to 2 to 3 or 4 and called " a glass of wine with dinner. " and as long as remains functional, nobody will be the wiser. But it still affects the family system.

      Fictional?
So was Little House on the Prairie and the Waltons but they were accurate, realistic representations of the generations depicted. It established values and behavior of the time. It set the standard for others to follow.
Its fiction only in the sense that it was being ACTED. But its content was a realistic representation.
That's why I was so concerned with how eating was represented.

First, don't apologize for the subtitles. I prefer them, and subtitles are accurate, whereas closed captioning is a joke. I watch everything with subtitles if they're available because I have tinnitus and subtitles allow me to read what I may not be hearing. Second, that woman was way out of line expecting more of Willie than just a job well done. It's sad to see sexual harassment whether from a male boss or a female one. I sort of wish Willie had shamed her a bit, told her he lost his wife recently and is not yet ready for intimacy with anyone. But that wouldn't be sending the right message, that this is a wrong thing under every circumstance.

I'm not liking the TJ character at all any more. He is allowed to entertain other girls attention yet Buddy cannot spend time with another boy? I don't like the way he pressured Buddy to stop talking to Ernie and I don't like that Buddy gave in to him like that. I was expecting Buddy to tell TJ to take a hike. I know she was using Ernie, but she did at least come clean with him and if you ask me Ernie was the most mature one of the three of them. Buddy and TJ's relationship is destined to crash, neither one of them is mature enough to be "going steady". Also, if they are supposed to be a couple, why the lack of physicality in their relationship?

Samantha Eggar in a not-too-sympathetic role. She was great a few years earlier in a harrowing thriller, The Collector, which I viewed once and could never look at again. I've been reviewing these episodes and looking at those on the Decades channel in recent weeks. Two observations from this episode: I think Kate wears four or so dresses in an episode which spans what, two days? She certainly had a lot of wardrobe changes per episode! I bet her dress wardrobe alone was larger than the total wardrobes of the other cast members put together! They all look good on her in a prim and proper kind of way. And did Willie ever finish breakfast? It seems he sits down, takes one bite of eggs and a sip of orange juice, and then says he is late for ...whatever, and leaves the plate virtually untouched! Kate appears to have made good meals (judging by the lengthy preparation we are sometimes privy to) but Willie's breakfasts, at least, seem to have gone to waste.
