I've been sitting in from of this mirror for what feels like forever. I've lost sensations of my fingers. I don't know if the outside world is the same or not. If anyone's out there, please, let me know.
I watched a few more videos and actually found a couple that helped me figure it out. Don't remember which ones or I'd direct you there. The first one explained everything like they were teaching a kid, kept referencing animals. Good luck.
How to tie a bow tie; Step 1: Put the bow tie around your neck under the collar ensuring that one side is longer than the other. Step 2: Throw a tantrum.
Chris Konowitz well this is really late but- if you think about, imagine you know how to do the bunny jumps over the tree or whatever tf that thing is, but it’s the bunny knot, not the double knot, so what you do (aside from the folding) is when you’re tying a shoe, you tie a knot then fold the other and go under the first knot(I know its confusing but if you know how to tie the bunny knot it’ll help a bit more)
Yeah. Easy. 1st time, not so much. 2nd time, still didn't get it. 241st time, I ripped my tie into pieces ans swore I would never subject myself to a bow tie again. Then, a friend showed me how to do it exactly as you do, but in a mirror. I LOVE it!
This video I find is better as a reminder right before you're about to do something as opposed to actually teaching you how. It still has it's uses as I watch this video literally every time right before a concert, but I can see how people struggle on trying to learn off of this video.
I found it! Very important, the loop that he’s referring to at the very end is created when you first Cross the long arm of the tie & push it through the neck! The trick is leave a little slack and pinch it with your finger! Make sure you feel the loop you just created BEFORE continuing lol! Took me a while to figure out. don’t make the first cross through the neck to tight and you’ve got it :)
Yes this is the trick. The loop you stuff everything through vanishes if you go too tight from the beginning. It’s as close to the shirt as you can. Keep it loose. Pulling on each pointed ends and each curled ends to adjust will give you the tightness and finish you want. It isn’t like a necktie where everything is pulled tight to perfection with each step. It’s less step by step assembly than it is a recipe.
After that, it's pretty much like tying a shoe lace: simply solve the quadratic equation, distribute water to a 3rd-world country, and convince a Republican that Obama is a good person.
Thanks Charles, it was easy as pie with your instructions. Then of course, I have decades of tying traditional ties, so this made perfect sense to me. Cheers!
This actually really helped me a ton because I new how to tie a bow tie before this but it was also loose and bad looking. This video goes over how to get a tight not. Thanks!!!!
Brilliant. Thank you. It took 3 days and the realisation that you can’t use a mirror till the very end but I finally got it. No more wearing a clip on and then slipping a proper one round my neck at the end of the night for me, BOOM
I’m very glad i come back to watch your video on this because others I’ve seen are really bad or they humor while instructing that’s cool but I wanna get on my way to work . Haha.
"We need someone on our channel to do a bow tie, it's being requested" "Gewd ideah, uh wul guh dew eet." "We were thinking someone people could understand better..." "Nuhsiiinsssee, uh ehm de beyst atda bow tye. So eesii."
This misses the key tip: once you have it to the point to where you have to pull through the loop, fold the two halves of the bow tie together and find the loop behind the wings, if that makes sense. There are other vids that point this out perfectly.
@Brian Miles Yes, exactly! Thank you for posting that useful tip. I learned that technique myself when looking it up a couple of years ago, though I still have yet to wear a bowtie out. I think the space from collar to waist is just a bit too much for me without a vest or closed suit jacket, but - I do think that an undone bowtie with an unbuttoned collar looks musically fashionable for the stage.
The poster of this video probably has tied bow ties for along time or has gotten good and does it now without thinking about it. It is important to set up the tie in the proper direction after the step where he slides it under and lays it aside. Try it both ways and you'll see a big difference. Watch closely at 1:25 which way he twists it up. This is important - if you do it the other way you will not have the hole to poke it through. You have to Also, setting the proper length before doing ANYTHING else is important too (at :35 he should explain the importance of this first-he does at :50 but says it in a way that seems like it is an option-this is huge IMO). The length he uses at :40 is less relevant than having the correct proportion so you have a little less or equal material to poke through the hole so it is not too much. You don't want to have a big back section (too small of a front section). Also, don't twist the center section (ring around the middle) when poking it through the hole. I did so the first time or 2 and it looked awful. At 1:45 it helps me to fold both sections together like a taco (holding both flaps together) making it easier to find & access the hole. Once you get it through the hole you can release the "taco" and form it up. The other problem here is he needs to have this filmed in front of a mirror IMO.
Thnask this helped me. I've never had to wear a bow tie in my life and I'm attending my cousins wedding this weekend. I want to look sharp and this wss helpful - thanks
Thank you so much for this video! Very easy to follow, I used to to tie my little girls headwrap cause I didn't have a clue. Watched this a couple of times and I've finally got the hang of it :)
As I was struggling to follow his instructions ( he left out how to follow you thumb when lacing the bow and how to adjust the damn thing) my video cycled through and a British guy came on with step by step instructions. Wait for the British dude guys. Also it's nothing like tying your shoes you bastard.
Pretty easy... if you try a little camera "magic" at 2:11. (Not the same bow. Look at knot.) Should have been shot in one take to be convincing or helpful.
Not gonna lie, but I prefer bow ties over a neck tie. Ties are nice and all, but something about a bow tie just stands out. Too me it looks cooler and that’s coming from a 23 year old who works at a bank 😂
If you're not already, you should be a model. And tying a bow tie is very difficult. I remember viewing a few videos before I found how to actually accomplish it 100%. I remember seeing a video that was 10:12 seconds. There was no way I was even going to look at this one. I couldn't even imagine!
I like it how he takes his time on the non important parts and blitzes through the complicated ones
Everything is on point!
Exactly not a very good instructional video at all

+Daniel Iturbide This video kinda sucks... he fails to mention or show the loop in the back... screws everyone up.

@cowboy Nobby glad I’m not the only one god damnit

I can't wait for the tutorial on how to tie a noose

There are several online ha and it's actually way easier.
Day 569 of trying to tie a bowtie: still cannot find “the loop”
*note* last step is NOT AT ALL like tying your shoes
Big sigh. You and me both. It somehow fails every single time... 🙄
It gets formed between the back bow and where you drop it over the top. I found its right above where my thumb is on the back part.
I am now the only person in my house who knows how to tie a tie and a bow tie I now have control of the male units.
Wut?
How are we meant to know?
Belle Jean You've got em where you want em now Belle!
Here we have a female ready to serve her males in trivial tasks ;)
Congratulations, sister. Taking complete control of their finances should be a simple step after this.
this is NOTHING like tying a shoelace!!! :-D

Geometrically, it is literally a shoelace knot.
where tf is the loop
it’s been 3 years and nobody has still answered XD
Ye why the f would you cut the scene where you go through the loop
My question either. 2019...
Okay. I thought it was just me. I'm flipping tf out.

you ever showed a kid a cool trick and you can see in their face that their mind was just blown? That's how I was watching this video
Oh my goodness, I've watched half a dozen videos and couldn't understand what I was missing...
This video is the best!!!
I hate when professionals say "pretty easy"
using a spoon is pretty easy!!! Tying a bow tie IS NOT!!! PRETTY!! EASY!!!
for you maybe, my milk won't stay on top of the spoon, it always flows down.
Your english is as good as your bow tie skills , well done , very articulate !
This is the most frustrating thing I have ever done.
I wear a bow tie maybe once a year and always watch this video the day before as a refresher. Works like a charm every time.
I'm a 16 year old girl, I have no idea how I ended up here.
