That is a variation of a very conscious move done by fighters. It’s a way to quickly loosen up joints right before combat. The reason it looks so clunky or “old-timey” is because of the sheer amount of muscle Henry has. Fighters generally don’t lift heavy the way actors do for roles. He was adjusting his sleeves. Maybe not consciously at first, but if you've worked in long sleeve button up shirts a lot, you know exactly what he's doing. There's 2 times you do it, 1) when the cuffs are up your forearm and you and the back at your wrists, 2) when the fabric is tight across the back of your elbow slightly preventing you from bending your arms. A lot of the times it's after you've taken off a jacket.

The part that got me most interested in the film from the trailer was him cocking his arms like that. I always thought that was his way of pushing his sleeves up his wrists a little bit for less swinging restriction.

I have NEVER been a Tom Cruise fan. So I hadn't seen any of the "Mission Impossible" Movies, until this one. Henry Cavill in THAT scene is what made me want to watch my FIRST MI film.
The fact they could edit 2 shots together so seamlessly is impressive.

Best part is that Henry is a mega nerd who plays table top games like warhammer as well as pc games on PCs that he builds himself. By far my favorite actor, as he is extremely relatable. He does it so smoothly. I always thought he was adjusting his sleeves, though. usually, ppl roll up their sleeves in movie fights, so i just assumed he was just like, "i don't even need to roll up my sleeves to take you," lol
it doesn't look like he's stretching/prepping his biceps and triceps for an arm extending punching motion? I thought that's what he was going for. I don't understand why everyone is fan girling over this or would even ask about it
He was adjusting his sleeves. Maybe not consciously at first, but if you've worked in long sleeve button up shirts a lot, you know exactly what he's doing. There's 2 times you do it, 1) when the cuffs are up your forearm and you and the back at your wrists, 2) when the fabric is tight across the back of your elbow slightly preventing you from bending your arms. A lot of the times it's after you've taken off a jacket.
