Charles Houghton Okatsune is Japanese and these are razor sharp. My favourite used to be a Felco F2 until I got the okatsune. #103 is medium sized pruner.
This is a man after my own heart! He explains gardening in a very through way. I would LOVE to work with him in the garden, he is so knowledgeable ! Any video of his is well worth watching! Ever On with gardening!
I need to cut dead branches more than anything. You explained everything so well. I didn’t know the difference between anvil, bypass and ratchet. I have arthritis in my hands so I would like a softer grip and pruners that help with the pressure. It was also very helpful to hear about the different blade materials. I don’t use mine in the rain and store them in a water tight storage container. Thank you for a very thorough video.
I have started a handyman business and I am learning alot about proper plant care. Yes, I was the guy who used hedge trimmers for all trimming and pruning tasks but I am changing my colors. Thankyou for explaining the differences in hand clippers/ pruners.
Thank you for explaining the differences. I am being taught by a master gardener on how to prune instead of pulling out the hedge trimmers that butcher the poor plant. Thank you again.
Hi!!! I'm been so long since I've seen one of your videos...so glad I found you again and I feel confident that I'll pick the right pruner now😊 Im pruning my dads cedar hedges that have been neglected for MANY years. I think i might need a chain saw more than pruners...but we'll see. Great video, thank you
For pruning trees, it's usually more effective to use bypass shears. They provide cleaner cuts and are great for precision when dealing with branches. from personal experience:)
Excellent comparison of main pruner types, as well as very good information on when you would use each. By far THE BEST, most concise information and examples I've seen in videos and read in articles- without unnecessary fluff or sponsor opinion. Always love watching your videos. I can tell how much education, knowledge, and experience you bring to your videos! I would love to see more on different garden tools; comparisons, reviews, examples of when and how one might use them. Thank you! God bless!👩🌾🌹🌿😊
I’ve had my steel Fiskars bypass pruners since abt 1997-98. They are still in fantastic shape as I make sure to clean and sharpen them after every season’s use. I also have had my Fiskars Micro-Tip snips for about 10-11 yrs now and they still cut like hot butter. And those poor souls have been left outside accidentally several times. 💚. Also, can you show us which veggies would be best to prune? I prune basil, tomatoes and peppers but I’ve never touched cucumbers or others.
Thanks for that great info on pruning shears! 😃 I was just in a big box store and looking at them by the register. There were so many choices. Nice to know what job each one does most effectively! Love my ratcheting pruner!!
I don't know how I pick what I use. My first choice is going to be my newest bypass followed by a ratchet pruner. I don't so much like anvil but I use them when trimming small trees. I have small hands and not that strong so I work with what will do the job with the less effort.
Thanks...Good video...Well explained even to one who already understand cutting tools..I relearned some things and this video put it in perspective for me for my tasks at hand ..I liked Subscibed ECT...TY Very much
This isn't even related to a pruner but I just got my dragon fruit a few weeks ago and I had over watered an Aloe Vera so I clipped them and ground the gel and watered them straight with that and the dragon fruit grew up real quick
great video.... however, I must say that if you have rust on your stainless blade, there are two possibilities. Either it ain't stainless, or that ain't rust. The ONLY time I've seen rust on stainless was on a boat anchor after years in the salty ocean. Stainless simply doesn't rust in other conditions.
Fiskars fine tip precision pruner. Great for thinning out seedlings! I also use rubbing alcohol to disinfect all my pruners/secateurs... what do you use?
Does any one now a tip to keep the screw of the lock pin tightened. After cleaning and taking apart my shear. The little screw which holds the locking pin in place keeps loosening itself when I unlock it
I have used and still have quite a few other brands and types of garden, I call them Clippers. These are my go-to. Corona FL 3420 loppers 💞 Felco 903 sharpening stone Corona 3/4" bypass Pruners # 3160 Also Corona 1" bypass # 3180D For Snippers, I call the fine point Horticultural shears, I have several Japanese manufactured, great little work horses and use them far outside of their predicted range. BTW I have no affiliation with Corona. I simply have found them to be the best overtime and for me. All of those listed above have been in continual use for 10 years or more. Also by the way the pictured brand above as I right, I have a pair of the bottom black handle cushion grip clipper. I liked it quite a lot but for several reasons prefer the corona design. Have also had the small snippers, worked great loved them, until the latching mechanism breaks.
The latching mechanism on some wears quite quickly and stops functioning. Some also will cease to stop the pruner from spreading so far that the spring will become unhooked and fall to the ground and possibly be lost. I've found it difficult to find one that will last in those two areas.
Great explanation! I really did not know how each of them differed. I would appreciate a little lesson in pruning various ants, when to..when not to...etc. also, I know you were giving a review of this specific company but what brand do you personally like? Fiskars seems to be the go to for most that I watch but, is there another lesser known brand you like and why?
I will make some specific pruning videos! For my HEAVY duty bypass tasks I will use a Felco pruner, but I'm liking these Centurion snips specifically for micro pruning
I'm not a professional landscaper but if I were I would use nothing other than Felco, that's what I use. Swiss made and they are not cheap however, if you don't abuse them, you'll hand them down to your next generation. Cheap tools need to be replaced and make your task difficult, fine tools make your task enjoyable. I love my Felco.
What's your fav pruner?
Epic Gardening fiskers / fine tips. Just because they’re the ones most often used by me.
Okatsune #103 bypass pruners - the best I have used
Btw great video thanks
Okatsune!

Thank you for this video. In a couple weeks, our son begins a Vo-tech program studying "Horticulture." He is going to be a High School Junior.

REALLY appreciated the clarity and pace of this vid. Exactly what I was after. Thanks so much for putting it out there!

Thanks for this run-through for the garden cuttings tools! It's very helpful, most especially for beginners like me
Thank you for explaining the differences. I am being taught by a master gardener on how to prune instead of pulling out the hedge trimmers that butcher the poor plant. Thank you again.
Always so helpful. No matter how old the video is ❤
I can't believe I've never heard of ratchet pruners!! Exactly what I've been needing lately. Thank you for making this video, super helpful :D
Fantastic video, everything is very clear to me at last !
Thank you, Thank you, Thank yo, so much mate 😊
I've just potted on cuttings that are older than this lad,
bless him 😁
My favorite would be Fiskers bypass soft grip pruners, and the small scissor like pruners. Like you said, their great for herbs :)
Yessss and so satisfying to snip the herbs
@@epicgardening yes it is, and to see the herb plant thriv after giving a small snip here and there. :)
Great video for someone new to gardening like myself.
Hey dude! I love your videos. Great presentation and knowledge and explanation! Thanks for your information!

Felco 2 for live pruning.
Explanation is very clear and well presented 👍🏼
Skillfully done. Thanks.
Thanks well presented useful for the beginner.
That was awesome, more to it than I thought. Thank you, and more pruning tips will be appreciated.
Omg thank you!!! I just got a job on a flower farm and definitely need bypass shears!👌🏻
Great Video! I have seen both bypass shears and scissor pruning shears for pruning trees. A video would be nice on the pros and cons of those.
This is extremely helpful. Great, simple presentation. Please show us how to prune fruit trees.
Will do, Kris!
Super useful!!! Thank you!
Do you put something on the living plan stem to avoid bacteria getting in?

Where did you get your raised bed from? That is awesome!
Thanks for this useful video🙏🏻🌻🍁
Super useful, thank you so much! Saved me money and time!
What do you recommend for cutting succulents for indoor use?
Those are pretty looking tools, thanks for making this video to explain their proper uses.
You're welcome!

Could I use a sterile straight razor for garden herbs like mint and basil, and cherry tomato plants etc.?
Fiskars fine tip precision pruner. Great for thinning out seedlings! I also use rubbing alcohol to disinfect all my pruners/secateurs... what do you use?
Same thing!
Nice video!!!....for 2 inch dia branch?
Thank you so much for making this video!! I know what pruner I need now!
What type of raised bed is behind you in this video ? How does it compare to the birdies metal beds

Well done
what do u use for ginger lillies
Yes!! Totally confused. Thanks for this vid.
FELCO should be in its own category.
I like the tree in your back ground

How to prune for optimal growth
Thanks for the info!
Thank you- sometimes I see pruning shears or larger pruners with titanium; your thoughts?
Much pricier, I'd say just take care of your stainless or carbon steel
how much is bypass pruner
where i can get that kind of pruners
Just got a 3 pack strong but only has a 3/4 inch cut lol next time ima go bigger but these are strong as they are from homedepot wss they are called
Is there a place where we could ask you specific questions about gardening?
My FB group or IG are the best spots

Fruit tree pruning how to videos for young trees. Peach, plum, fig, pomegranate, and citrus tree.
Easy to handle
Is that a house built around a tree behind you?
I only have scissors..✂️
Use what you've got then! But be careful on harder branches / stems :)
How and when should we sterilize our tools?
Does your neighbour have a tree growing up through their balcony? Neat!
Yup! good eye
Just FYI - Centurion is having issues on their site... grrrr.
All things equal, stainless is toughfer than carbon steels
Fucking epic
👍👍
Excellent. Perfect
