How to unlock BMW Trunk With Disconnected or dead battery(f80 M3, f82 M4, f30)

In this video, I show you how I unlock my BMW m3 trunk that I accidentally closed while the battery was disconnected. Usually, the key fob would be able to do this but not when the battery isn't connected. This video is for entertainment purposes only. If you are having issues with your vehicle please consult a mechanic or your dealer.
I’m doing the same thing and ran out of daylight and realized that if I close the trunk I’m screwed so I’m putting everything away and reconnecting the battery so I can open the trunk…a big mistake by BMW to not have a fail safe even though your idea does work!! People can panic in this situation!! Thanks for the video!!!

Thanks your video saved my day by showing the way to opening the trunk of my 1995 E38. Had already tried with a battery charger attached, but apparently that did not provide enough Amps. Inspired by your video I tried again with jumper cables and a battery - and it worked wonderfully. And this E38 has no other obvious alternative trunk opening options.

Thank you! My trunk was locked, battery dead and My seats don’t go down on my 2014 3 series so I had to jumpstart. I was connected properly but wasnt holding down the boost button to trigger power. You saved me from being stranded! 🙏🏽

You saved my life i used the same jump starter as you on my 420i f32 that i had my battery disconnected in the back and after forcing it made a spark and managed to click on the trunk button to open.

What a great and helpful video. I stored my X6, disconnect the battery, left the bottom floor hatch that covers the battery and lower storage stuck in the open position and is locked up against the closed tailgate. And because of this I’m unable to access the emergency latch. Called numerous BMW service centers in California and got no answers. Will definitely this and crossing my fingers it will work. Thank you!

Had this prob 2day. Disnt have a booster so called recovery. Guy didnt have a clue so I showed him your video. He wired me up.... boom. Even he was chuffed to learn this trick. Nice one.

"Handy dandy". Interior light was on at the beginning. Wish my stupid car would do that with an unhooked battery. Or just carefully planned editing afterwards making sure the jump box idea had worked. Pretty sweet.

This recently happened to me. I connected a standard battery charger to the terminals under the bonnet which was sufficient to power the electronic boot lock. This will save you buying a jump starter.
My battery is disconnected and glad I found this.I had a towel over the latch but someone removed it and closed my BMW hatch. I am working on the engine. My question is will fuel spit out of the car with this method of boosting the power in the front as I have the fuel rail off right now?
As long as you don’t attempt to start the car the fuel pump “usually” wouldnt just turn on like that. Also, please subscribe for future videos of similar topics🙂

Would this work with a engine starter ?
Can you also connect it to another car to do this or do you have to use thay same device with an override button. I am trying to use a jump starter pack but it doesnt work. The one i have doesnt have an override button.
I had that issue, on my Escape, even if you can get the door handle with wire, it will not open door, finally, I used a long thick wire, bought an inflatable shim air bag for $18 at Home Depot, inserted between door from top of door, and reached the hood release, took about 20 minutes but was able to pop the hood, and then jump the battery for a minute, and then I could use the metal key or press unlock from key fob.

Did you have the (+) still connected? I disconnected both to change the battery and closed the truck; do you think this would work if both were disconnected? Thanks in advance!
Bro I'm thinking about buying one of these today and trying, I've connected jumper cables and it didn't work. But apparently it has to give enough amps for it to open. I see that they sell them for like 100 to 150 bucks. My battery is fully disconnected and taking out the car it started to rain so I closed the trunk. So if this works I'll go ahead and send you a link to the exact model he's using

Hey bro can i do the same by applying jumper cables just so it has current to open the trunk, i closed it after taking the battery out.
Daniel I’ve had to that before and had success by doing it that way. Actually in the manual it states that another car can be used to jumpstart the battery. Hope this helps.

I have a 2006 and experiencing the same issue, sad thing is both of the keys don’t even work. Cannot open the trunk. There is no access to the trunk through the backseat. I’ll give this a try.

I’m currently going through the same problem with my bmw ! But it’s not working, should I try using a more higher source of power such as my home boy truck via using power cables to send high currents into the car

I got a question how to fold down the rear seats from inside the car ,not from the trunk ?why wouldn’t they make a leaver or something to be able to pull down a seat from the inside 🤦🏻♀️I tried to figure it out but I guess no way :(

I got the NOCO GB50 but it says I shouldn’t try jump start anything that isn’t a lead acid battery my Bmw m4 is Lithium ion. What do I do bro?
Gurpz Experiments from my experience with the f80 the battery pack hasn’t been an issue for the fact that our cars have a IBS intelligent battery sensor that aids in keeping the battery safe. It states right in the manual that we are able to apply 12 volts to the positive which in a way will “wake the lithium battery up” if it has fallen below a certain level.
Burgess Willis my battery has been dead for about 3 months now. I’ve put the NOCO GB50 on charge shall I just go for it? I don’t want to risk blowing anything or messing anything up.
Gurpz Experiments 3months? That’s a LONG time to have a lithium battery sitting there. Tbh you might have reached a level of low voltage where the battery itself is at the point of no return. If that was me I would check the voltage at the negative and positive points of the battery . Then if it has power I would apply the bmw lithium slow charge from ctek and let it charge that way.
Burgess Willis that’s what I done, but the ctek XS keeps coming up with an error code. I pressed the the reset button to try bypass the UVP but it didn’t work it wasn’t powerful enough?
Gurpz Experiments another way I have been successful in “waking up” the lithium ion battery in the past if the charger wasn’t successful..is to apply a jumper pack directly to the lithium battery for a few seconds so that the “breakers” In the battery itself will detect voltage and begin to take a charge. Once that was successful I proceeded to finish the charge with the ctek
I have a bmw 1m with the battery out , i tried connecting a battery to the front and couldn't open the trunk , but i didnt have the booster as the one you have on the video. Are you telling me that it will work even if i have the battery out , not connected?
In many cases I have seen success without the battery being in the car. Let me know how it worked out.
@@burg2daworld Nothing worked as you have to have a closed loop with the battery. Only thing that worked was a camera rod from Home Depot with a hook at the end, fish it in between the seats and pull the handle.

@@burg2daworld i did it this way last year, did it again yesterday no dice . It’s because this time I disconnected the two thick red wires from the battery terminal in order to get the battery out I think and that broke the circuit on the hot side
How much does the portable jump box cost?
You should be able to find one for abour $125. Atleast that’s what I paid for mine. It’s a good investment in my opinion. Please consider subscribing to the channel 🤗

It doesn’t matter if you battery is unplugged. Connect the jumper cables to the positive connection under the hood and ground the negative, and you’ll immediately get power to pop your trunk
What if both positive and negative aren’t connected? Lol
@@johnsondoeboy2772 I would try connecting the jumper cables to the front battery connections. I still think that it will give you enough power to pop the trunk. That said, I’m no engineer and know that it worked for me despite having the negative cable disconnected from the battery in the trunk. Good luck
@@algomez6629 My negative was only connected, and my trunk is opened thankfully. The creator of the video just recently said that even if the battery wasn't in the car, it would still work.
I bought this exact one after this video for my bmw f10 5 series and this does not work on my car
2010 128i convertible, it didn’t work.
I plugged in a noco battery charger and it’s been like hours and still dead battery :( I was hoping I can recharge it with battery charger not a jump start 😢

No it doesnt work with bmw 520 d bcz there is some another Wire which is Mounted on Top of + Sign ,then afterwards car will get power
I tried this on my wifes 328i hooked up to my 19 titan with number 6 jumper cables. Car got no juice what so ever
Did you use this model with the button that sends power through the system? This model works because when you hook it up you have the option to send power through.
