We saw him three years in a row, this bull with not much antler but a whole lot of attitude. Somehow he managed to best a few bulls despite always being outgunned. He was a pleasure to work around, and as you see in this story, he was scrappy to the end. We fear he was taken by a bear that last year we saw him. He was really beaten up at that point. Not old, just fight weary. Enjoy watching our time with this amazing bull.
Thanks for watching our channel, we are the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.) It is our passion to document wildlife of any kind, but moose are definitely at the top. In New Hampshire we spend a lot of our spring/summer hours in kayaks photographing loons and moose in the waters of New Hampshire. And hike many miles in Alaska seeking all manner of wildlife in the fall.

Well shucks, that was sad.
At the same time, that country is gorgeous. When looking for late berries, I've bumped into moose (male and female) as they were laying in a hole. First time was quite startling! After that I was more watchful. For being so big, thay can hide very well, as you know!
Wonderful seeing the video. Look forward to them.
Thanks as always Susan. Yes, these huge animals sure can surprise us by being all but underfoot at times. Not only that but they are SO quiet even while moving through trees. And you’re also right that it’s sad that we never saw Swagger again after his battle weary year. 😞
I have revisited this video a couple of times. I feel like I am intruding; The rational part of me knows it’s to be expected in life but still brings a lump to my throat. I am sorry he is gone from your lives and by extension ours. Thank you for sharing, warm regards to you both.
Aww, thanks so much. We were heartbroken to not see our buddy Swagger a couple of years ago. He was so much fun to pal around with. We do see his carbon copy in the form of Dennis, though. They have nearly exactly the same antlers. Maybe even twin brothers. So we see it as Swagger still being around in the form of Dennis. We sure hope to see Dennis again this year. He stayed out of trouble, so he should be fine. 🤞Thanks for watching Swagger again. He's worth it! And thanks for the comment. We love hearing from you.
I hate when they get hurt.😢
How in heck do they prevent poking each other in the eye and still look all magnanimous in battle that could kick anyone's ass ?
HA good question! Actually, there are a lot of eye injuries walking around after the rut. Many blind in one eye bulls. Luckily, for having filmed 6 fights, we have never witnessed it. (Injuries, yes, but none were open wound types.) It's better that way!
Do you recall what name you used in a previous video for his antler configuration? I believe the term meant "thin form."
This type of narrow antler is called cervina. We have a video here Antlers 101 that explains all about these incredible growths. Thanks for the question!

You're welcome, thank you!
This was uploaded back in July it's September now, have you seen him yet?
Swagger has not been seen in three years. But there is a spitting image of him out there now, a bull named Dennis. We suspect they are related. Swagger won a fight against Left Hook 3 years ago but was badly injured when they crashed into trees. He had a very bad limp. We feel he did not make it through that winter, sadly. Thanks for asking.
@@MooseManNaturePhotos Well, if he hasn't been seen for 3 years it's very likely that he has passed. What about Mismatch has he been spotted yet? I watched the newest video about him.
@@watchensee We sadly have not seen Mismatch this year. We fear he was lost to the harsh winter that just never quit up here. We miss the kind, old man. And so does 22, we truly believe. They were like old friends those two, they had worked out their differences and reached a detente. So sad, nature. Sigh.
@@MooseManNaturePhotos Yeah, nature is not fair, forgiving. Mismatch was lucky he lived as long as he having had a disability in the natural world.
@@watchensee Very true. Kind of illustrates that nature is not always cruel...
Swagger has never came back? Could it be because of his injury or he just moved
Actually, he did! He stayed to the fringes until this past rut season and he came in guns blazing, disrupting the entire dynamics. So...despite our thinking he didn't make it after that year, he most certainly did! Thanks for asking!
I’d venture to guess that his genetic line is still in the valley.
Yes, no doubt. We will be keeping an eye out for that bulky body and maybe even a BIG bell.
