  • Today’s video has been in the works for months. We are VERY pleased to present “All About Moose Antlers”. We think moose antlers are cool, and this video is a deep dive into that subject.
    This is a fun video, but it’s educational too, it’s packed with antler information and the cast of the movie features appearances by Mr T, Hook, Son of KJ, Swagger, Perry, Flat Top, Boss, MisMatch, Bruiser, Elvis, and even King James.
    Our intent is to share Moose in Nature, and take you along on our adventures. A big part of this platform is the interactions between us and our fans. We take pride in reading all your comments, and answering questions as well.
    Let’s take a minute and use our imagination. It’s march 25th today. Large bull months shed their antlers months ago, while some of the very young bulls may hold onto theirs until very recently. In the coming weeks, bull moose will begin that antler growing process all over again. In the next couple weeks, that process will kick in, and moose will be seeking nourishment to grow those huge sets of antlers. Thanks for watching today!
    Thanks for watching our channel, we are the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.) It is our passion to document wildlife of any kind, but moose are definitely at the top. In New Hampshire we spend a lot of our spring/summer hours in kayaks photographing loons and moose in the waters of New Hampshire. And hike many miles in Alaska seeking all manner of wildlife in the fall.

    Didn’t realize how far behind I got, over the last month! Was having a hard time with medical stuff, that’s been ongoing for a little over a year. About two months ago or so, (with my help), they finally figured out what the problem was, but then it was up to one more specialist, to come up with a solution. She couldn’t help me herself, but knew who could. So in the last week and a half, I finally have been getting the help I so desperately have needed. It’s going to take time, but the process has begun. I came to your RUclips channel because I knew I missed a few videos. It turned out to be more than just a few, I spent the last 4 hours catching up! It was good to see all of them finally! 💖💖💖

      Awww Fern (if I may), first of all, I'm so happy for you that you have finally -with some medical specialist minds- solved your health mystery. Sounds scary, that with all the modern science/technology in diagnostics available that it got past so many. Glad you're proactive in your health! That's half the battle right there. As to catching up to MooseMan channel content, well, we'll just keep making videos (we post 2 a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and still photos all the other days in the Community section) so if you have nothing better to do, we love that you're here catching up. But more importantly, we wish you healing and wellness, strength and recovery through your ordeals. Thank you for being here and reaching out. We've missed you!❤‍🩹

      Boss was an amazing bull, very chill, he is a Maine bull, so Rick only ever saw him in the water in summer, when he still had over a month of antler growth to go! He walked right up to Rick in his kayak, and stood there dripping water on the boat! Imagine looking up at that??? They are so different acting in the summer before the velvet comes off. So docile. Thanks for the comment, LoW!

      Years ago (15?) my husband and I were hiking into Baxter State Park when one approached us on the trail from the opposite direction...he/she stepped aside - as though to let us pass - we gave it a wiiiide berth and made our way quickly by him/her. I was scare to death - it was massive and my first time seeing one up close. I couldn't even tell you if it was male or female, I was in such shock!!! That was when they were much more plentiful in the Maine woods. You don't see them nearly as much these days.

    If an antler is deformed, will it be that way each year? Or if the bull gets injured, will it grow deformed each year?

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  Год назад

      It depends, Andy, if it's a birth defect, a trauma to the pedicle, or if they just damage the antler as it's being grown. The latter doesn't condemn the antler to malformity yearly. The former does. Thanks for the great question and for watching!

    Nothing like Devils Club to take off the velvet. Wow that stuff is nasty for people. Heres one for you, does the blood lines in atlers form a finger print? Im not sure if your video footage can prove this or not.

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  Год назад +1

      Devil's Club is NASTY stuff and the moose eat it! Even the underside of the leaf is prickly. Not fun!
      Fingerprint from the blood lines imprinted on the antler bone? Great question. I'd have to guess that because no two antlers are the same, that the imprinted vessel (fossil) is akin to a fingerprint in that regard. It's a great question and I'm sure the vessels form pretty much in a structured pattern. The brows and royals are supplied from the superficial temporal artery, so they no doubt create a predictable pattern. But the ancillary tines are supplied via smaller vessels and capillaries. Not as predictable. Clear as mud, I know.
