The sound design of the game is so atmopsheric and really gives you that feeling of loneliness, being enslaved by a superior alien race, no hope for the future. This is something you don't see in other games
Yeah. As a sound designer myself i was trully amazed how they managed to input some liminal feeling to its ambience. Like that first time when you go into 'infested flooded' tunnel - that steam pumping and sudden pipe hit used in the way that reminds me of having a deep breath and then holding it. It's industrial, creepy, liminal, terrifying, oddworldly and mezmerizing at the same time. You cant just describe it by the words - You have to feel it Yourself.
This song is laced with the occult, and ripples of interdimensional travel. It is not constrained by genre, and transcends fiction, history and narrative.
The bridge is the 2nd favorite part of the game to me, my first place would go to the little house with the burned corpses. The ambience there is just sick.
My favorite level in the game Something about the way the trees are bare and the desolate feel going from ruined house to ruined house and then the epic bridge part It was so fun to play this in 2004
You did an excellent job in smoothing over the loop with the wind noise. This feels as if I'm barely tethered to existence. As if I'm very free but also very poor and cold. On the cusp of the world, imagining what things there could be in the fog. A future, perhaps?
i could actually meditate to this, it's so calming yet so ethereal at the same time....the feeling is hard to explain but the ambience captures it perfectly just another reason why HL2 is my favourite game of all time :)
The only disappointment on this one is no occasional Razor Train-above noises that'd *REALLY* help with the ambience here, honestly. Otherwise, nice work. :J
