Good to see Alec and Bet reunited for one last time this month! Julie Goodyear and Roy Barraclough were a fabulous double act on the street, shame their union wasn’t all that long lasting (5 or so years!).

Yeah true I was surprised seeing how different Roy was in his early appearances. It's funny that loveable characters when they were first introduced were different personalities like being dodgy, creep, streetwise, Crooks, a bit of a villian and being a bit of a player before they get incorporated gradually into a classic loveable comedy character in soap opera like in EastEnders characters that had a personality transplant into loveable clowns like Nigel Bates, Robbie Jackson, Barry Evans, Huw and Lenny, Terry Raymond, Jim Branning, Billy Mitchell, Garry Hobbs, Big Mo, Alfie Moon, Minty, Darren Miller, Jean Slater, Jane Beale, Jay Brown, Stuart Highway and Harvey. But in Coronation Street like Steve McDonald, Fred Elliott, Roy Cropper, Dev, Gail, Deirdre and David. But in Emmerdale like Alan Turner, Eric Pollard, Zak Dingle, Butch Dingle, Sam Dingle, Marlon Dingle, Mandy Dingle, Jimmy King and Eli Dingle. For Hollyoaks Ste and Tony. You guys remember these loveable characters that changed. Great right see the differences.
Me too. Definitely Corrie's best married comedy double act. Back in the day (for me) it was Stan and Hilda but Jack and Vera emerged as a brilliant replacement. I love how Jack always referred to Vera as "my little swamp duck".
Interesting to see Roy Cropper character at the starting point. I find him to be much different than the Roy I know and love. Pestering Deidre for a drink?? I wonder why they changed him so drastically or he evolved with the storylines.
David Neilson (Roy's actor), had a wife who worked with children on the autism spectrum back in the day. He wanted Roy to stay around longer than was originally intended, so he reinvented him as a sympathetic, socially inept character rather than the menacing weirdo he started out as. A lot of Roy's behaviours could be explained by him being autistic, and as no one really knew what Aspergers was in 1995, Roy became a hit with viewers as a result of this new portrayal.
