Even up against some pretty stiff competition like Terry Duckworth, Craig comes across as a morose psychopath-in-waiting. I'm not surprised Deirdre felt very on edge with him under her roof. Pity she didn't get the same vibes when involved with Phil Jennings, Doug Murray or Jon Lindsay.

I do feel sorry for Ivy, but she should never have made Don stay with her. Bert would never have treated her anywhere near this badly. Ivy's desperation to hold onto her marriage vows has been her undoing.
Yes, she was one of the more pathetic characters. When she bawled in the Rovers in a drunken stupor and Don found her and took her away, I started weeping. I've always been sympathetic toward Ivy for her inability to change the way she is in her prejudiced mindset, even when she tries. And in spite of how annoying she was with her judgmental stuff. I also felt bad for her back when she got hooked on the "spirit church" (to try to get in contact with the spirit of her dead son) and apologized to the crucifix in her house, because in her mind she knew she was being blasphemous to be toying with such activity outside her Catholicism.

I thought Emily was very brusque to Percy. Id kill to have a person like Percy helping and cooking for me, planning meals etc. He helped a lot for her when she was sick.
Emily isn't particularly nice. Eileen Derbyshire really captures the kind of person who affects being a compassionate Christian who has a spirit of generosity towards others. But in reality is judgemental, 'holier than thou' and snide. She's horrible to Percy, everything he says and does irritates her, but she takes his money for the rent of a room. Agreed. I don't understand all the sympathy now for "poor Vera." She was cruel, vicious and hateful. The way she treated Des was inhuman. And she was equally shitty to Lisa...to the point where Lisa barely left the house. Characters like Ivy and Vera deserved their respective outcomes.
Back around the time that Don convinced Ivy to set up a competition against Mike Baldwin, I found him kind of loathsome. Then I started to like him when he got sick of Ivy (for the right reasons) and was drawn to the divorced barmaid. After that I saw more and more depth to his character, and I realized how good the actor is too. Now we're seeing more of the loathsome in him again though.

Its credit to Sarah Lancashire ( Raquel) that her persona, figure & attractiveness are purely the characterists of Raquel. Shes an accomplished actress who went on to play many different roles & even into directing, plus her real life intelligence & ambition. Many who stay in tv shows become sterotyped or are often afraid of leaving a long running successful drama, that they will be out of work or cant act in anything else because of stereotyping. Raquel was in Corrie quite a long time but was able to diversify into other roles which is a credit to her acting & her ability to see More to her skill in acting & gamble to venture into different roles. I love her " Raquel" and i also see how shes made the part, her own. She didnt initially start out as the ditzy, air head but was a player & was rather devious & catty when she worked at Betterbuys, in a kind of bit part Role. But since she took on Raquel the barmaid/model part, her ability to transform her persona to the Breathy Bimbo was very good I couldn't see her origional character as fitting in, the scriptwriters can pit her with " Tania" types or more confident & hard types, which lets us see the vunerable side. When she stood in front of the mirror in her Santas little helper outfit & cried was so poignant & sad. I can see how good an actress she is, every one loves Raquel & she made the part her own. Im enjoying the spats between her & the witch Tania, they are great & funny & sad. I've not watched tv for years now, nothing worth watching but id like to know what Sarah Lancashire has done over the last 20yrs or so, if anyone knows Thanks to E.H.S. 🇬🇧👧
Sarah Lancashire is a national treasure and has won numerous awards for her dramatic work. As well as being an amazing actor she also has a set of pipes on her and she can bloody well sing too! Check out some of her other work. To name a few: Where the Heart Is (Season 1 to 3) Rose and Maloney Last Tango in Halifax Happy Valley Kiri The Accident Julia
I’m only just started watching these old episodes of Coronation Street now after being in awe of Sarah Lancashire’s acting in Happy Valley. If you haven’t watched it, I couldn’t recommend it more- Sarah is phenomenal in it!

@@kevinfowkes2327 I'm american. I assumed it was spelt Burt.
@Brenda it’s Bert as in Albert 😉
Terry’s reached a new low here. Even by his own low standards this is something.
Jack never seems to learn that he has NO CHANCE of getting his leg over any Rovers Return barmaid - particularly Tanya.
Not with that bald patch 😮 comes to us all
2:23:29 - Lynne Perrie AKA Ivy is clearly pishêd as a fart in this scene. 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
The Hortons knew they wouldn't have to dangle the carrot for long for Terry to agree to sell Tommy. If I had been Jack and Vera I would have reported them to the police because what the Terry and the Hortons did was illegal.
Raquel looks 🔥🔥🔥
27:00:00 love this scene between Denise and Raquel
l thought bet handled the raquel and tanya situation superbly.firm but fair.no nonsense.
Can’t stand WHERE’S ME TEA WHERE’S ME TEA KEV
Terry was a great character. Loved the duckworths
Well buying and saling of a child goes on acting it happens in real life so very sad 😢😮😢😮...
Tanya, is a very peculiar woman.😮😮😅😅😂😂 1:01:22
37:32 who's that girl kissing Steve?
1:48:56 why wouldn't you give your girlfriend a kiss in the street - its 1993!!! 🙄🎭🍻🇦🇺
Was veras own fault she lost tommy, she was so greedy & selfish with him not letting the hortons see him
Can't imagine any woman wanting to marry Hanif! He's as dull as ditchwater! Must have been an arranged marriage.
I would.
Money
I thought he was a closet gay man.
By December 1993 Don has completely lost the plot.
I never 'BetDon' what happened between the owner of the Rovers Return and Ivy's ex husband 😜😜😜
Ive heard of method acting but ivy takes the biscuit 😂
That Don creepy!
percy is such a rude and arrogant man at times and then he wonders why people dont like him.just because hes old dose not give him the right to be horrible to people.
But he defeated Rommel single handed don't you know?! ;-)
Craig (Keiran O'Brien) after Corrie made it as Robbie Coltrane's son in Cracker.
If I remember correctly (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong) but didn't he also go on to become the first actor to have sex on British tv?
@@bibakroll8999 You thinking of nine songs?
@@briangatt2956 I don't know the name of it, I just remember reading about it somewhere some time in the past. You know how that works!
@@bibakroll8999 Yeah, bet its not Coronation Street🤣
Reg....combing his "hair"...
Audrey has never changed still looks the same now
Terry as come out of the big house (As Jim McDonald calls it) but how Can he be so horrible selling his own son to the Hortons,Why couldn’t terry bring him up, I felt so sorry for Vera and jack
Terry can’t be bothered going out to work to provide for his own child.
@spartybrearly7221. Isn't that what a lot of fathers don't do now? They claim benefits instead.
Quick...Denise is having a party...everybody is invited...except creepy Don.
Great chemistry between Lynne Perrie and Geoff Hinsliff. Where did it all go wrong for Ivy and Don’s marriage?
Bet filing her nails right in the pub where drinks and food are sold is kind of gross!
At 3.53 Percy says if there a penis in the house 😂
Pianist
I was in the US at the time. First time I saw this. Terry Duckworth was a scumbag 😢
Sally knows well this guy fancies her and goes off on a “date” with kids and enjoyed Kevin seeing her.
Its credit to Sarah Lancashire
( Raquel) that her persona, figure & attractiveness are purely the characterists of Raquel.
Shes an accomplished actress who went on to play many different roles & even into directing, plus her real life intelligence & ambition.
Many who stay in tv shows become sterotyped or are often afraid of leaving a long running successful drama, that they will be out of work or cant act in anything else because of stereotyping.
Raquel was in Corrie quite a long time but was able to diversify into other roles which is a credit to her acting & her ability to see
More to her skill in acting & gamble to venture into different roles.
I love her " Raquel" and i also see how shes made the part, her own.
She didnt initially start out as the ditzy, air head but was a player & was rather devious & catty when she worked at Betterbuys, in a kind of bit part
Role.
But since she took on Raquel the barmaid/model part, her ability to transform her persona to the
Breathy Bimbo was very good
I couldn't see her origional character as fitting in, the scriptwriters can pit her with
" Tania" types or more confident
& hard types, which lets us see the vunerable side.
When she stood in front of the mirror in her Santas little helper outfit & cried was so poignant & sad.
I can see how good an actress she is, every one loves Raquel
& she made the part her own.
Im enjoying the spats between her & the witch Tania, they are great & funny & sad.
I've not watched tv for years now, nothing worth watching but id like to know what Sarah Lancashire has done over the last 20yrs or so, if anyone knows
Thanks to E.H.S.
🇬🇧👧
Sarah Lancashire is a national treasure and has won numerous awards for her dramatic work. As well as being an amazing actor she also has a set of pipes on her and she can bloody well sing too!
Check out some of her other work.
To name a few:
Where the Heart Is (Season 1 to 3)
Rose and Maloney
Last Tango in Halifax
Happy Valley
Kiri
The Accident
Julia
I’m only just started watching these old episodes of Coronation Street now after being in awe of Sarah Lancashire’s acting in Happy Valley. If you haven’t watched it, I couldn’t recommend it more- Sarah is phenomenal in it!
Sarah Lancashire = Legend ❤
Love the whole "Denise Drama". Not a spoiler, but my guess is it's Ivy. I think she's been tracking Don, and wants to wreck any other relationship he might be making. Wait for it --- OOPS! Not Ivy. Guess Who?? Even tho Ivy wasn't the Denise stalker, she's still pretty deranged. And so is Don. If I lived on that street, I'd move to ANYWHERE!!!!
Deirdre! throw the pair of them out..Tracy is way out of order the way she talks to you..😠
Tommy is so comfortable with Vera, sweet.
1993 was the best year for Corrie.
