    I hope I get to finally see the USS Baltimore sometime soon. That, and maybe the USS Bremerton.

      They will be added, if they added the New Orleans class, and if they caually add the Wichita as a premium, they will add the Baltimore

      They’ll probably add a Washington Naval Treaty era ship no one ever heard of before; that’s even worse than Northampton before adding Baltimore but yes I’d love to see it

    Fantastic, I love to learn more about the history of the ships, loved the video! It really makes me think why gaijin added Northampton after Portland in game, but still, it's a very cool ship, I'm loving to use Portland and I will spade Northampton after I spade Portland. With the sure addition of battle cruisers by the end of the year, it makes me think what ship might come to the American tree...

    • @flippedstug9517

      If I had to guess, America will likely get the Alaska. It's not a Battlecruiser but it should be on par with early BC's in power. It could also be Des Moines; Despite being a CA, it might have a good chance against early BC's with how Gaijin favors fire rate over per-shell damage.

    • @sirbowserfelix9293
      @sirbowserfelix9293 3 года назад

      @@flippedstug9517 I agree, Alaska is also my first bet for America, but I need to research more about Des Moines, I don't know much about it yet. One of my friends is betting on Baltimore or Wichita, even though Wichita is a Heavy Cruiser. I believe Wichita is possible, but I think Alaska is more likely indeed....

      @@mattf4u-496 I have always wondered why I do not see that they have AP ammunition, I would like to know if the empire at some point considered placing AP on the 127 mm naval guns, or if there was any development or manufacture of these.

      @@jorgee.j.m4133 its cus for the japanese destroyers werent meant to use their guns on anything larger than another destroyer, instead, they focused on their long lance torpedoes. The destroyers role in the IJN was for night raids, night battles where they would let lose their torpedoes at the enemy fleet. During the supposedly "decisive battle" between battleships that never came (uh kinda...), the destroyers were supposed to let lose a massive barrage of torpedoes at the enemy fleet at night while being supported by the IJN's fast battleships/cruisers, this would have been the kongo class at the time. Then the main battle line would've finished off what remained the day after. Of the few times they actually executed this tactic, although they didnt have battleship support, was the 1st battle of savo island.

      The 8 inch 55 caliber gun turrets were protected up to 6 inch shells. There is a 8 inch 55 caliber gun turret from USS Louisville CA 28 in the Nevada Desert used for atomic bomb testing. It was hit by kamikaze and 500 lb bomb on Jan. 5, 1945 in the Pacific. There is a Y-tube of that My dad who passed in 2017 at age 92 was on her from 1943-46 and witnessed (52) sailors buried at sea including Rear Admiral Theodore Chandler.

    Look, it's the Portland's (somewhat) sibling ships! Although I really mean somewhat, as the Northamptons only had the same main guns and hull, other than that, the Portland's werr closer to the New Orleans than anything. (Admittedly, I could be wrong because I am not the best with memory of facts). Also, while Portland was seaworthy, she rolled like a bitch, and actually earned the nickname of The Rolling P., where as her sister was notable because she really didn't roll too much, which was odd, because her design was exactly the same as her sister except for two times I can thinm of that woulf majorly change the look and weight of the ship: When she got her SG and SA radar and Portland only recieved her SA radar; and when she recieved repairs after the battle of Okinawa, and, unbeknownst to the crew, modifications to make her better able to carry the parts needed for the Atomic bomb Little Boy, but even that didn't really change her.

      If you look at photos from the late war, it's difficult to tell Portland from Chester and Louisville and Indianapolis from Augusta as the surviving Northamptons did away with the tall tripod masts and adopted a superstructure that more resembled the Portland-class. Indianapolis was built with the extended forecastle of the Northampton-class fleet flagship layout found on Houston, Augusta, and Chicago, while Portland had the division flagship layout that Northampton, Chester, and Louisville did.
      The New Orleans-class was a clean slate design that had little in common with their predecessors.

    Weren’t the Aoba’s the first IJN treaty heavy cruisers

    • @flippedstug9517
      @flippedstug9517  3 года назад +2

      I'm not an expert on the Japanese navy, though the main source I used for this video listed the Myoko as Japan's first-generation Heavy Cruiser. The Aoba-class is a modified Furutaka-class, which was designed before the Washington Naval Treaty. The Myoko was the first design made from the ground-up with the Washington Naval Treaty passed. I suppose it comes down to whether or not we're considering the first cruisers finished or the first designs finished after the treaty to be the first ships of the treaty, though I believe it goes to the Myoko historically.

      I'd be fine with it if they had made it relatively cheap, like 170k-220k. Putting it at 320k after a 270k ship that's a direct upgrade is just dumb, however.
