You made an amazing choice with the RP3. And I like original hardware but I do like these new retro handhelds more. Just a better more up to date experience. Enjoy the RP3!
@@suhtangwong Not worth it to me , until retroid puts the Start/select buttons back on the front, I'll pass on this, hopefully they give it a face-lift with retroid pocket 4
The overall design looks pretty slick. It's just too bad that they made some odd choices about button placement. Still, it looks like a really portable size. Great for a commute or for spare moments at work or class.
@@cheeeeezewizzz It's mostly that you've got to take your hands out of a normal playing position to reach the start and select buttons. That's a little weird for games that use those in play. I'm also not totally in love with the volume control and menu buttons being on the sides. It's not necessarily a problem, but I can imagine pressing them by accident unless they're really stiff. My preference would be the start and select when Jim suggests in the video (on the front face, where Nintendo Switch plus and minus buttons are), the volume control basically where the the start/select is now, and the menu button either also on the top or somewhere on the face that's a little out of the way. I think that would be the most useful spots for those. At least for the way I play.
I'm so happy the Dreamcast runs on this handheld I have a PS Vita hacked switch hack and they can't really play the Dreamcast that good if at all really
just a correction to your video, 99% of people who bought the RP3 are still waiting for their order to be shipped. So RP3 doesn't replace anything, maybe 50 years from now when Retroid finishes shipping what it had committed to.
Well done Jim! This is my 1st time watching your video! Would you be doing a Part 2 video to address the issues claimed by Taki Udon? Would be nice if you can!
It'll be better and more expensive. And bigger. The RP3 is compact and inexpensive. Depends what you want really. The Odin Lite is the best value handheld at the moment...
Thanks for the video!! I have the same issue with GT4 on my snapdragon 888 phone, and turns out the .iso file was no good. Redownloaded another one and it works fine. So your black screen issue in particular might not be related to the RP3 :)
Great video! I'm looking forward to receive mine, it's gonna be a great improvement over my original Pocket 2. With the new button placement do you ever hit the home button by accident? I did that pretty often with the RP2, lost a lot of progress because of that...
Yeah I think I made a mistake in choosing the footage while editing. The game is pretty slow but seems like the footage I showed the game ok. But yeah it wasn’t very good when I played. I’ll try and show more in the review.
Правильно ли я понимаю, что ретро игры нельзя растянуть на экран 16:9, как это сделано, например в Anbernic RG503? Можно ли как-то добиться изображения на весь экран?
It's also $100 more. If you want to play PS2, the Odin is probably the one to go for (or an android phone with a SD845 and above), BUT ill also say that with more windows handhelds coming, it'd be interesting to see how they run PCSX2.
@@RichardPhillips1066 The Odin Lite is more than enough. Just watch the gameplay videos of it running games smoothly that are outright unplayable on the RP2+: ruclips.net/user/TheRetroTester
Yeah the RP2+ screen isn’t a great experience for PSP and it’s much better now. From the games I tested you can play at 2x and the performance is really good. Bumping up the resolution is more of a performance demand on the GPU and this seems to handle it fine.
Im sure you've seen Taki's latest vid on this. Hope yours hasnt got that screen flickering issue when brightness is above 30%? No doubt theres gonna be a bunch of unhappy people that will get those, luck of the draw looks like. On a personal note, odin 6" screen is to big for you? 😁..nah..surely not? Im a fan of 7" screen handheld size so my Powkiddy RGB10 Max with its 5" screen is defo a little on the small side for me but its serviceable ☺️ I mean these 'small' screens are fine if you want 'pocketable' sure but portable doesnt necessarily mean its gotta be pocketable 😉 👍👍👍
I did - that was a great video from Taki. I think the flickering issue is when brightness is below 30%, but I believe Retroid confirmed they fixed that. I didn't see it on my unit. Though its definitely possible some units get missed so yeah I can see people getting a dud. I'll explain a bit more in the review, but I find that the 4.7" screen is my ideal size for PSP games. The Odin 6" is fine, but it makes some games bigger, so the 'PSP experience changes'. It's like playing GBA on Odin - the game ends up being really large in size. But in general I like large screens too and always happy to play on them. The 4.7" just makes the RP3 a really good PSP replacement as it keeps the experience largely the same, but the screen is slightly bigger and the resolution and quality of the screen is better.
Hi Jim, maybe it's me being a PC guy but i don't see the point in releasing a product with the same CPU of your latest product 1 year later. (Not sure if it's been a year already)
Hi Greg, good to see you again. Hope you've been well. Yeah they meant to release the RP3 at the end of last year, and they also had the idea of releasing an upgrade board for the RP2 with the RP3 processor on it. The upgrade board cost $60 so it was about half the price of the RP3. In the end they had some manufacturing issues with the RP3 and so they went with the RP2 upgrade board and the RP2+.
As soon as you get to the first dungeon in WIndwaker, performance will most likely take a dive. The heat effects give underpowered systems a hell of a time.
Good video but I just got the rg353p and it works pretty good.. I'll just wait a couple of months to see what affordable cheap handheld with more horse power under the hood comes out.. seems like they are taking their time coming out with these handheld devices with similar rams and chips...
