You are the first reviewer to actually turn on the 3.7 inch screen and compare it to another 3.5inch and 4inch inch screen that is also turned on. Thank you! I’ve been waiting for someone to do that in the last five reviews I’ve watched lol! I would have loved to see how 3ds is on this as well.
Thank you for comparing it to the 405M! It's my one and only emulation device. I nearly pulled the trigger on the RG Cube but decided not to. Then this came out and again I almost bought one. But seeing how much smaller the screen is compared to the 405m I'm less eager to drop $200. And I'm not in any rush to buy another handheld, I don't use my Anbernic enough. So either Anbernic will release a perfect successor to the 405m, or someone else will, or the price on the Pocket MINI will drop. I can sit back, relax, and try to actually use my 405m more! Thanks!
Nice.. You're the first reviewer I saw using 3x resolution rather than 2x for PS2 emulation, unlike those other reviewers. So it's possible afterall. As for DQ VIII, the other option is to use OpenGL, but with only around 2x resolution rather than 3x.

Yeah I probably would have preferred if they lowered the price another $50 and use the T820. That screen is just too damn small imo, it's great for retro games but anything modern, it's kinda useless lol.
Thanks for adding the performance mode used in your showcases! That provides a much better idea of how much head room the device has :) I'm shocked by ps2 performance - did you use any custom drivers to achieve that (not sure if they're compatible/useful with nethersx)? @@retrotechdad For reals. The Sega games that were meant for Dreamcast but moved to the XBOX was the reason I went that direction as a kid. Would die to have Jet Set Radio Future on a device like this.
Hi @retrotechdad I hope you make a video tutorial as well for making the best settings for emulators and guide for the RP5, like what emulators and steps should we with our Retro Pocket. Thanks in advance
@@retrotechdad Sorry if that sounded too demanding, I didn't mean to. I really don't know how retroid thinks they can get away with putting a warranty sticker on a device they are selling DIY products for and not declaring when you buy it that opening it is subject to nulling the warranty, which it doesn't. I can understand refusing a return based off of that level of modification, but a warranty? Nah
Regardless of bezels, and how clean a 'bezel-less' look you can get with the black model...it's going to be a pretty tiny 16:9 display area when letterboxed for that screen. It seems really powerful, but the screen is not optimal to take advantage of what is to be displayed in the higher end. It's a way overpowered 4:3 device that can't really display 16:9 content, due to size and shape of screen. They probably could have pulled back a bit, and set the price lower on this product, if they were committing to 4:3. It's over engineered for something that is going to play 16 bit 4:3 content, max. Like, I guess you can technically play 16:9 on it...but i doubt it's an experience people would enjoy. The hardware is a little overkill for what it should do, and how it will be used. Nobody is using this for 16:9 letterbox content on that tiny 4:3 screen.
The handheld has the appropriate amount of power needed to handle PlayStation 2 and GameCube emulation, both of which were primarily designed with 4:3 aspect ratios in mind. This is a dream come true for many that want a very small and pocketable handheld that can handle those consoles properly. The Pocket 2S is a solid device that has less power and as result is a cheaper device that is still for sale by Retroid, so they already have filled that niche. The Retroid Pocket 5 will be the one to go with if someone is interested in 16:9 aspect ratio with a larger display and size.
I'm so torn between buying or passing this one... Everything is perfect except for the 3.7" screen. I'd buy it without a blink if its 4" and has no shader rendering issue
Out of curiosity, why need android 13 if this version of 10 pretty much has everything? Certain emulators do not work right with below 13? As for Batocera...no brainer there that is the best of the best!
@@retrotechdad very true, but the best hd texture pack for ssx 3 is on dolphin. I’d also like to see some reviewers actually bring up the issue because a driver error is surely causing more issues than just this.

Awesome review, i'm impressed by it's battery life.
The only thing holding me back from buying is the input lag, can you test it?
The best on the market right now is the Odin 2 mini. The latency is incredibly low
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271Have anyone tested it?
The ultimate Review
I'm so torn between buying or passing this one... Everything is perfect except for the 3.7" screen. I'd buy it without a blink if its 4" and has no shader rendering issue
I wish it was a 4 inch screen...
Almost as snappy as your awesome content.....
😅😅 Fred 🤗
Out of curiosity, why need android 13 if this version of 10 pretty much has everything? Certain emulators do not work right with below 13? As for Batocera...no brainer there that is the best of the best!
Ya not changing those buttons..😅
A while?
i'd like it if it didn't look tacky as hell. Also, why did retroid have to start chasing ayaneo's coattails when Ayn is right there!?
Ssx3 on dolphin doesn’t work on this device
The PS2 version works pretty well, I covered it in my PS2 showcase video here: ruclips.net/video/HJS6H9ulUic/видео.html
@@retrotechdad very true, but the best hd texture pack for ssx 3 is on dolphin. I’d also like to see some reviewers actually bring up the issue because a driver error is surely causing more issues than just this.
I like my RG cube.
Sadly, I don't love it!
Performance in ps2 leaves a bit to be desired...
how does the Mini oled display compare to Samsumg or Apple counterparts ?
You praised the display here, but wish you had done a quick comparison
if only it was 4inch great video
4 inch OLED 4:3 screens don't exist
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 yeah well so be lcd we got 40xxh but it got bad ergornomic and battery overall cheap 405 exist but might as well buy mini meh
The only reason I'd buy this over my RP4 Pro is better Switch Emulation. I wish I could see the difference. Otherwise I don't care. Great video
Saturn. Emu runs a lot better
The exposed screws are ugly
I kind of like the look...
The background music is very distracting. Am I the only one who feels this way? Why cant we use ai to block back tracks yet!?
Sorry to hear that, if there's background music, I usually set it to the lowest.
Android 10 while Android 15 was released xD that's crazy.
Android 15 wouldn't improve the gaming experience
@@estusflask982 It's an outdated android device, that's the point, some apps might not work on very old android versions and it's also why we have fragmented android OS, so many different versions currently in use. iOS has most of its users on the latest version.
Why bezels are still so large? 😭
It's a bezeless screen
Get the black one, less noticeable.
Agreed. The bezel is still too large, made it ugly.
