      *****
      Okay, I'll give you that. But be honest, Arin wasn't talking about desperation, he was talking about use of items as a standard of gameplay. I used all the OTHER major items in most of these titles. Arin can say what he wants about their redundancy, but you can't whip in two directions at once; you CAN throw an item, turn around and deal with the other threat.
      =3

    • @ArinJager1
      @ArinJager1 9 лет назад +7

      TymeTwyster Last the thing is: you can use the items, but you don't really have to, the game isn't forcing you into using them... or what he's saying, why use item, when you can just _whippikah_ - like, you know, you watched the video... The items are there (for the consistency, I guess - means they were in the previous games, so why throw them away in this one), but they are not important anymore... Sure, if you're good (throw knife one way whip the other way, as you said). So, the sumary is... the items don't even need to be in this game, but they're still there, for some reason or another... I don't know where I'm going with this, it's getting late and I'm little hazy at this point... but don't take it like I'm trying to make excuses for Arin's opinion or whatever... I'm just sayin'

    • @DxBlack

      If you watched the video properly you'd have learned that the video addressed MECHANICS that messed up the game...
      ...reusing enemies doesn't cause a game to break or take away from the re-playability like making other items worthless and leaving the player with all the tools he'll need from level 1 does.
      Imagine if all you need in Link To The Past was Link's sword to reach Ganon and not having to go through the trouble of getting the 3 pendents to unlock Ganon's chamber...

    • @RedOphiuchus
      @RedOphiuchus 10 лет назад +13

      darkwiz666 Except that's not quite true. The game is about how they changed several base mechanics in a favorable way, but none of the other mechanics or aspects of the game changed with it. This can include the enemies. In fact, he spends a lot of time talking specifically about enemies and how their interaction with subweapons and the whip was pretty much equal.
      The idea that they could have changed enemies so that the whip wasn't as effective against them could have also fixed problems he addressed.

    • @extragirth64
      @extragirth64 10 лет назад +1

      darkwiz666
      That is not the same at all. The pendants weren't items you could use in the game like the items you got in Castlevania. They are more like achievements representing that you have went through a level and killed a boss.
      Taking the pendants out of LttP compared to Castlevania would be more like taking away three entire levels with bosses (just so you could fight a certain later boss faster? What the fu...)
      A more correct example would be if LttP had your sword compensate for all the jobs of those usable special items (bow, the magical rods, boomerang, inter-dimensional mirror etc.) yet still had those items in the game ... HOLY F**K THAT SOUNDS AWESOME.

    • @mash587
      @mash587 10 лет назад +7

      Not just the old enemies, even the new ones fared poorly. Mostly thanks to the eight directional whipping.
      In fact I recently played through the game without whipping up, down or diagonal at all except where absolutely necessary to proceed in the game (which was seriously only like two spots late in the game). It REALLY felt like the stages had originally been designed to be played like that, not with the omni-whip. It even got pretty challenging near the end. Not as hard as 1 or 3, but no longer felt like Super Kirby-vania IV.
      I'm convinced the multi-directional whipping was added in to the game near the end of it's development.

I don't mean to offer you any external validity, if something like that has turned into a crutch-like destruction mechanism for you like it has for other content creators, but being on the receiving end of your content is such an incredibly fun roller-coaster to be on, and I hope enough people have communicated that to you that you've gotten the message. I wish you could experience it from everyone else' perspective at least once. And I hope you have had as much fun creating this stuff as people are having from watching it. ***** This specific Sequelitis video is one of the good ones, the ones where Arin actually has good points and is... well... right.
      The problem is his behavior towards games he sucks at, particularly in Game Grumps. If he sucks at a game, he calls it absolute garbage. And as of very recently in the Game Grumps OOT Playthrough, He is again hating on the game. (reference: Fire and Water temple episodes.)
      Why? because he clearly sucks at OOT. I'm not here to say that's the ONLY reason however, but it is more than likely the governing factor behind his "opinions".
      I have no faith he would give Metroid Prime justice against the side scroller Metroids.

      super vs fusion

    • @mphylo2296
      @mphylo2296 7 лет назад +2

      That wouldn't be favorable for Metroid Prime. It's a far less fluid game than Super Metroid and it's also less intuitively designed. It's by no means a less than stellar game, but compared to Super Metroid it's rather slow and the controls are often quite awkward. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Super Metroid is the better game. I just don't think there'd be much that Arin could say that isn't immediately obvious after playing both.
      Metroid vs Super Metroid however would be a far more interesting sequelitis because the two games are essentially the same concept excecuted a decade apart, with hugely different levels of quality. Both are set on the same planet, feature the same basic controls, and share many enemy types. I think this comparison is far more fair to both games and also far more interesting to analyse. It's amazing how many things Metroid botches that Super Metroid perfects. Neither game is bad but one is vastly better and for a myriad of reasons that aren't immediately obvious.
      Just my thoughts.

    Castlevania 4's weapons are useful. Just not in the first few levels. They wanted to make the game a little easier in the beginning for newbies. But go on to the next few levels and you'll see. Just look at the Game Grumps episode of this game. Danny and Arin got stuck and if they used everything they had they could have made it past enemies easier.

      Jimmy William Rondo of Blood (getting to play the real version via Castlevania Dracula Chronicles on the PSP) was perhaps a better evolution of the original Castlevania. Except for Maria. I really don't know what to think of her addition.
      I really love the heck out of Castlevania 4, as it was the first of them I beat legitimately without cheats or help. (And the replays do get tougher, adding more enemies and having more damage get taken off.)
      On the other hand I have still not beaten Castlevania 3 without save-states. (Leaving one before the Dracula battle, not between forms.)
      I have not played a Castlevania game yet which I utterly despised, or went "this is terrible", except for Simon's Quest . . . where my words were more "this needed to be left to cook a little longer, because it's so half-baked". I even really enjoyed Lament of Innocence. Of course I have about seven I've not played: Castlevania 64 (N64), Circle of the Moon (GBA), Harmony of Dissonance (GBA), Castlevania: Belmont's Revenge (GB), Castlevania Legends (GB), Order of Ecclesia (DS), and Harmony of Despair.

    SC4 Changed everything? I could say the same thing about SotN and the other Metroidvanias. That game changed everything about Castlevania, and not in a way that worked for all fans.
    SotN took everything about adventuring through a terrifying castle, and relying on your, skills, limited weapons and brain, and replaced it with going over-powered conqueror of the castle with a huge arsenal of weapons.
    That game is a far bigger criminal if you ask me.

      True. But SotN was the game that brought all the billions of weapons and magic spells into the series, plus they went back to linear with C3 because it didn't pay off very well.

    This was basically the only Castlevania game that lets you do that (aside from Harmony of Despair which came out years later). WIth the way he puts it, maybe that's why they went back to letting you just whip in 2 directions? That or it was just easy to program the player that way. But there's games like X68000 and Bloodlines that still lets you whip diagonally. Then again X68000 you can only do it while jumping (and only downwards) and Bloodlines the only directions is diagonally left or right.

    • @RocketJSquirrel
      @RocketJSquirrel 10 лет назад +3

      Another thing he covered, which I feel is true, is the reach. Bloodlines goes back to one's character being a somewhat small blip, so the additional weapons will always make up some difference one way or the other... but they were a bit less well-implemented than prior entries.
      Like the game under scrutiny here, it wasn't bad at all, it merely had a few missteps in design; in Bloodlines' case, I actually think it was trying to be a little too different... like Simon's Quest, but to a far lesser degree.

    As much as I hate to admit it, Arin is right. After playing the NES trilogy, and then playing Super, it felt just a tad more...repetitive compared to the originals. The motions of swinging your whip over and over are going to wear on you because there's no reason not to use it over the items, and stopping to whip the candles feels that much more unnecessary and boring. It overall feels slower-paced and less intense compared to the originals because of this.
    At the same time though, it makes up for everything with the AWESOME controls and amazing atmosphere. Every room has its own uniqueness to it, and it constantly feels like you're on an epic quest. And god, there's just so much polish. That moment after you defeat Death and the creepy intro music plays, and the torches light up as you walk literally made me go "oh shit" my first time playing. Similarly when you get Dracula to a quarter of his health and Simon's Theme starts playing it made me go "FUCK YEAH!"

    • @Gadget-Walkmen

The button for the sub-weapons didn’t work, and I was too lazy to switch it to another button. I had no problem beating the game, and I still enjoyed the hell out of it. On a side note: I think cv 3 is a close second. I think they were released months apart, oddly enough. I always wanted a cv that took the best elements of 2, 3, and 4. The rpg elements and towns of 2, ( I actually liked it, though there were some really frustrating aspects to it), the multiple paths and different characters of 3, and the crisp gameplay of 4. To me, that would be just perfect.

    01:50 - The whip is *INTENDED* to be the strongest weapon. It *IS* _the main weapon_ of the Belmont Family, the legendary whip Vampire Killer. It's not by chance that the other weapons are called _sub-weapons._ So yeah, you can finish the game without using any sub-weapons at all because the Vampire Killer is awesome.
    That said, it does *NOT* mean that the sub-weapons are useless, as some say. It's just that _some_ sub-weapons are better than others, like the Boomerang/Cross. And with the exception of the Clock (which can freeze time, making it easier to deal with certain enemies who dance around the screen), all the sub-weapons can be powered-up with the items "II" (called "Double Shot") and "III" ("Triple Shot"), making them much more powerful.
    The Boomerang boosted with the "III" item is awesome against bosses. You can throw 3 Boomerangs, where which one can hit twice while you're whipping the boss.

    Castlevania 3, so rudely ignored in this video is a great example of how to sequel.
    It takes all the mechanics that work in the first game and adds something new. One crucial element. REPLAY VALUE! Alternate paths, multiple endings, four playable characters. But everything about that first game, the tight controls and clever level design, resource management and knowing which weapon (and now which partner) to bring for each area. It's good. Better than the original, honestly. Great game.

    This is my favorite Castlevania game because of its atmosphere and presentation, along with its near-perfect controls. While I'll agree that the secondary weapons probably should have been thought out a bit more (but not pointless; I like the throwing knife for long-distance attacks against the dragon-head boss and Frankenstein, the stopwatch for those annoying skeleton snakes on the walls, the holy water for stationary enemies, the axe for.... ok I never used the axe, and the cross for pretty much everything else the whip's not as good for) the control scheme was really smooth and it made plowing through the levels with well-timed attacks very rewarding.
    Back to the atmosphere, this game more than any other really displays the horror aspect of the series. (Brief sidenote here: I didn't grow up playing NES, so I don't have an inherent love for the 8-bit graphics, and most of the games look muddy and gross which makes it harder for me to get enthralled by them. However, the horror genre actually relies on gross aesthetics which in turn makes me more invested in them.) Utilizing the enhanced graphical power, it put a lot of attention to detail, from the rotting trees & plants in Stage 2 to the haphazard construction of the Clockwork Mansion to the way the dark hallway leading up to Dracula is lit up by the candles as you walk by them, and so on. This kind of stuff is really cool and I'd like to see more of it. Not to mention the stellar soundtrack; the Dracula fight here is my favorite of the series because of how menacing & foreboding it is, and for how the last quarter Simon's theme kicks in to show how much stronger you've become (the first stage is set up to make you feel like a badass; by the time you've got Dracula backed into a corner you actually ARE a badass).
    While I still like Castlevania 1 & 3 for their challenge and later stuff like Aria of Sorrow for its exploration, Super Castlevania is still the quintessential Castlevania experience.

    • @AbdulSawari
      @AbdulSawari 10 лет назад +6

      Market saturation. He may get a smaller view count per video, but he can make more of them (and produce them in less time and effort) and thus the smaller view count is amplified with each video. GG has a consistent output level, unlike Ego. Also GG allows him to experiment more with less blowback sooooooooooooooooooo yeaah!

    • @ChemicalKnight
      @ChemicalKnight 10 лет назад +20

      To not waste them. The whip is designed to take down small little enemies so you can get hearts that fuel your sub weapon, so when you fight the boss you can throw and Axe to hit the bat that is out of reach, or toss a cross boomerang to hit the main enemy twice and take out a few of the small things building up. They didn't have the technology to make it to where you can have 8 weapons switch between them on the fly. He talks about it in the first Sequelitis.

    First games in a series are often the best, or best designed, because there are no expectations for content and they are usually designed with a specific focus in mind. Sequels suffer from having to fill the obligation of having more content and new additions, often without regard for how they interact with the established mechanics and content. Also there is the issue of wanting or needing to find a wider audience, which leads to mechanics that had purpose in the first game either being stripped out or watered down. I think Rondo of Blood got so much praise at the time (often called the best in the series) because it had some of the challenge and focused design of CV1, but had the polish expected after SC4.

    I didn't like Super Castlevania IV as much as the others 2D linear castlevania, and the reason for that is that I aways thought that it was too easy, but this video made it very clear why it was too easy. I think that Rondo of Blood is the definitive classic castlevania.

      i agree rondo of blood is definitely the best classic type of castlevania, a terrific soundtrack, less bullshit to put up with, the challenge scales with how the player gets better with the control, fun to play and if someone comments that its not good because its a bit easy then have you even played the game? the game is difficult but in a hard and fair manner, if you think that difficulty should be based on bullshit like in the first 3 castlevania games then go play megaman & bass on the super nintendo then you'll retract that statement and agree with me. although I think that the best castlevania games ever made would have to be the metroivania ones which really kicked off a new era in the castlevania universe with a bang using castlevania symphony of the night which is one of the best games I have ever played

    • @zyad48

      shadowshinobi06 wow the SNES version? that thing is fucking bullshit incarnate, that game is 100% inferior to the original rondo of blood and can go fuck itself

    • @Senordisastermaster
      @Senordisastermaster 9 лет назад +3

      shadowshinobi06 It is still inferior (not 100%, since it can hold its own as a game when not compared to Rondo- which makes Dracula X look very inferior when compared to Rondo). Rondo had remixed music to add a familiarity feeling as well as adding it's own catchy tunes. Graphics don't make the game, but Rondo still had amazing graphics and had a way better level design not centered around bullshit (Rondo also had immense detail put into the moving backgrounds and it's still ones [the semi-still backgrounds are in levels that are enclosed rooms like the dungeon and the clock tower]). Rondo was on the PCE-Super CD, meaning it had way more colors and way more capabilities. Rondo had anime style yes, but at least it added it's art style throughout the game (Dracula X only had some pictures of the art... but neither art direction is good compared to Ayami Kojima's art- which was in the Dracula X Chronicles: the Rondo of Blood in polygons). Dracula X is filled with platforming bullshit and unfair spearguard placement (not only making it challenging, but an overall giant pile of bullshit deaths). Rondo had less bullshit, but still had a hefty amount of difficulty (making death more of the player's fault instead of the bullshit- it causes less frustration and adds more enjoyability when playing long term). The best part of Rondo of Blood is that it had great replayability with its non-linear gameplay and cool secrets (Dracula X could be beaten in one playthrough if you had the patience of remembering levels. But then there isn't as much fun to be had replaying Dracula X than to replay Rondo). And Maria is basically the easy mode of Rondo; she's not required to be played but she is an extremely overpowered glass cannon of awesomeness. :)

  • @PabbyPabbles
    @PabbyPabbles 4 года назад +1

    I think they added the directional whipping far into the game's development cycle. Nothing ever requires directional whipping. Levels are clearly designed with only the straight whipping in mind, and you can use directional whipping to shortcut everything

  • @Pan_Z
    @Pan_Z 9 лет назад +36

    People defend him, but I really don't think he fully grasps the point of this.
    With increased control, it's more the fault of the player and less on cheap design that the player dies. Remember all those 1-hit KOs from knockback from the first 3 Castlevania games? Greatly reduced. Remember how horrible stairs were in the first 3 games? Now you can actually do something about it, so you can't complain about cheap design. Super Castlevania IV cut down the bs moments significantly. Items were still very much useful. Hell, several boss fights would be nightmares without them.

    • @sorenlily2280
      @sorenlily2280 9 лет назад +33

      Pan Z It's funny that you think he doesn't "fully grasp the point of this" when really you're the one who doesn't get it. From 3:42 on is where he really makes his point, so I recommend you watch from there. Basically what he's saying is that the developers put the items in Castlevania 4 because they were in the previous games. However they didn't realize that with the new format, items were more or less obsolete. This is a problem because the game could have been so much more than it is if they just didn't care so much about making it the same as the first/third one. The increased control absolutely reduces the number of bs moments, and he's not saying that's bad. He's just saying that this increased control gave the game a lot more potential for new and innovative mechanics and the developers failed to capitalize on that.

    • @Pan_Z
      @Pan_Z 9 лет назад +5

      Stuart Smith He seems disgruntled over the new control scheme early on in the video.
      And the items do, greatly, help. He didn't show moments where items significantly aided Simon since that wouldn't prove his point.

    • @sorenlily2280
      @sorenlily2280 9 лет назад +16

      Pan Z No...you're still missing the point. He's not really talking about the items, he's talking about the game's missed potential. The developers made drastic changes to the control scheme in such a way that the game became less compatible with the old format (items), and yet they still decided to include them for tradition's sake. What they should have done was expand upon the changes they made, not limit the game for consistency.

    • @Pan_Z
      @Pan_Z 9 лет назад +6

      Stuart Smith The whole point of the game was to use the original games formula, but greatly improve things on a fundamental basis, such as level design, AI, enemy design, level variation, graphics, control, bosses, and music. They did succeed.
      He was pointing out how the items didn't change, even some of the basic gameplay mechanics did, rendering them essentially useless. Minor problem: the items still come in handy.

    C'mon Arin. It doesn't make you use the subweapons. You can't say it's bad game design to include them anyway. It's redundant, yes, if you wanna stick with the whip the whole time, but it's not a negative. The controls are better, the graphics are better, this whole game is superior. I will say that having the subweapons be necessary would have been conducive to a more wholly fulfilling game, but having them in doesn't hurt it. You're always puritanical when it comes to game franchises, though. Sequelitis as a series is nothing but yellow journalism, and that's fine because it's an opinion-driven show. Blaaz101 dude have you played ocarina? i absolutely felt like that game was fantastic but a lot of his points were right eyeballs on walls are not puzzles and neither is looking around for a diamond to whack those are just door opening tricks. every enemy has a waiting period like seriously every fucking one like its not even quantifiable to say thats a bad point cuz its fucking true they were never hard it was only imaginary hard because it took up your time. the items in modern zelda games make the game so fucking predictable its not even funny like gee i got a bow lemme guess a boss fight where i gotta use a bow like even zelda games AFTER ocarina did it and that was his point that ocarina kept things relatively the same for the sake of consistency i mean he says that SHOULDN'T be done in this video and yet you critique him on saying that about zelda because? while you may be right about him seeming like he is just flat out fully complaining he isn't completely wrong and i think your opinion blinds you just a little bit i mean the spinning spike pucks come on dude thats just fucked up design how the fuck am i going to avoid something i can't even see becasue the camera angle does not allow for me to see it and yeah sure its the nature of 3d games but he did say that for this game the formula needed to deviate from what they thought a zelda game should be and yeah sometimes the older ones may have been confusing but at least when you found things it was exciting like literally NO minibosses are in any of the newer zelda games when they were in link to the past like why is there almost no exploring in ocarina except for when you collect all the heart pieces and hell you don't even need to get the ice arrows like something they could have designed a dungeon around or something but you literally don't even need to do the mini dungeon to get them and considering how its the ONLY mini dungeon in the game (you could say the well is one but it really isn't since you need to go in there anyways) now the cinematics are a little nitpicky but i can see why he nitpicks them. not a lot of people remember the part where the opening cutscene tells you about links mother...well i wondered about that but nothing was even said about her like not even by the great deku tree which has reason not to tell you but the way they start the story doesn't really fit the world much in that regard and come on what happened to the hylians like they pretty much legitimately all died so technically you failed that quest but the game will never address it (aside from the light temple guardian) they just tell you to stop ganon in this timeline but where is the impending doom like you literally are just like "oh fuck" when you go outside but the game does nothing to make you feel like you failed because technically you actually did like some of them moved to kakariko but not every single person the old lady who wanted her dog back totally died and look there are side missions but really and truly very little and really only memorable for either how frustrating they are or how good some of them made you feel but your actions are never truly affecting the world like in majoras mask which i feel they did a better jobs on the sidequests in but in a game where i am adventuring and supposed to be excited its kinda hard not to wonder about some of the things that are just never said and yeah i love this game i have played it like a million times but the game never addresses actual things that happen in the world like what happened to the shiekas literally they are all dead (except for that lady in the village) and then shiek comes along?...what? and like if the game does its dungeons so well how come everyone hates the water temple for being stupid as fuck (its actually my favorite temple for many reasons but i can't deny that people find this the most annoying and confusing dungeon and it really was) like the game doesn't suck by a longshot but his opinions are pretty valid it does take a long time to travel by song in the game mainly because of the cutscenes the owl was annoying and really never a staple character i mean hell you find him like 3 times as young link and literally never see him again unless you are on the top of death mountain and thats fine but the characters ARE boring and forgettable and detached from what you are doing like yeah the sages are people you MIGHT care about but their delivery and overall the interaction with them feels extremely short and sure they care about you but in the long run does anyone really care about them aside from maybe impa i mean saria even seemed like she had a crush on link but its never addressed its like they want me to know and yeah i do know but make interaction with them meaningful don't make it like "oh now i gotta talk to zelda to move the story along" and like basically it has all these one trick pony elements that people accept as a fully fledged story and amazing game and it might be but it does have its flaws

      i mean his complaining about the chests was a little nitbicky but he is right about the items being more important than the quests to find the item or the quests to find the dungeons i mean hell i love skyward sword i love the combat its so fun to swing my sword around and shit but its literally gonna stop and wait for you to do some stupid story task or look for a diamond to whack to open a door or guess what shoot another eyeball and it is a predictable time consuming mess like fighting the imprisoned 3 times?...i understand WHY we have to fight him but even i was frustrated by that boss and i knew he was gonna be a little frustrating but it feels like lazy design when we need to fight ANY boss multiple times it becomes this kind of "Oh great this guy again" moment that you just want to be over like remember in metroid other m when you had to fight that one boss like 6 times yeah that shit sucks but see in metroid prime 3 you had to fight ridley twice and it wasn't a moment where you were like "ugh not again" you were like "HOLY SHIT HE HAS ARMOR NOW" and even the fight was different and thats the thing it its the same boss thats fine but the WAY you fight them should change i mean if its coming up multiple times why do i need to do the same thing EVERY time hit the toes then attack the head EVERY SINGLE TIME and how you do it does change because of the items but it still does not change that the tactic to fight him is the same

    ...Except if you used anything but the holy water in the old games, you were playing draculas fool so to speak. There was almost no point in using anything else since holy water:
    -Stunned Bosses and made them your bitch
    -Drained enemies health really quick
    -Had a lingering hitbox
    -And stunned enemies allowing you to kill them while theyre already taking damage from the holy water
    Castlevania 4 balanced this out by nerfing the thing. Making the weapons more viable.

      The holy water didn't have a lingering hitbox. The flame just stunned enemies; it didn't deal lingering damage. It was broke, though, except against Dracula 1 and the Giant Bat, and I guess the cross is better for the mummies.

    • @Gorlokk666
      @Gorlokk666 8 лет назад +4

      +NeutralGuyDoubleZero Hold on though, because nearly every ground based enemy has a projectile of some sort (axes, bones, flea men just being flea men and flying across the fucking screen), so you can't always just get right on an enemy's ass and unleash holy water.
      And saying that Castlevania 4 "nerfed" holy water isn't really true. It would be more accurate to say that CV4 buffed the shit out of the whip making it better than any subweapon. I will definitely admit that holy water destroys most bosses in CV1 though. But it's not always an easy task carrying holy water from one point to another without losing it for some reason.

    • @NeutralGuyDoubleZero
      @NeutralGuyDoubleZero 8 лет назад

      Gorlokk I wouldnt say easily losing it is an actual weakness of the weapon. Its just the games design to dick with you occasionally. And projectiles aren't much an issue since it freezes enemies and stops them from doing that.

    Yeah the multiple directional whip kinda makes sub weapons useless but I think that makes it better because the sub weapons are there if you WANT to use them. I can't tell you how many times in CV1 and CV3 I would lose a sub weapon I needed and stood basically no chance against a boss. In CV4 I like that the sub weapons are just there if you want it. It takes the frustration out of losing a sub weapons you might need for a certain boss

    I do have to disagree with you on this one.. Castlevania IV fixed all the problems that you had to endure in the first one. A stiff controll over Simon. But in the fourth you have full controll over Simon, and now the challange comes from the enemies and the game, rather than losing all the time from enemies pushing you over gaps.
    And as for the weapons, the weapons are only crucial for the bosses, the rest of the time you only need the whip. Plus you could be sufficent with the wip in the first game.

      Even the bosses don't need to be hurt with weapons. The weapons just made it easier, especially in yhe case of Death. But it is definitely possible to beat every boss in the game with just the whip.

    Dude I love you to death, but I think Castlevania 4 tops the original in every single way

      Castlevania 4 is good but I think the original might be the best game in the series. The only issue with the original is the clock tower. I have no idea how you are intended to play that without taking damage or using the stop watch. 4's bosses the solution is often to just wail on it until it dies and you kill it faster than it kills you. You aren't expected to learn boss patterns and dodge. Also Dracula in 4 is so so annoying.
