Training recalls - Response to name

A little video on the first steps for training a recall. For me I start with working on a really solid response to name.
Notice the difference in the first dog compared to the 2nd dog Ziggy. Can you see his focus and engagement with me rather than what’s around us? Zig is a survivor of severe abuse and couldn’t even be in the same room. He still struggles with some touch from
us.
This is the goal of my recall training. To have a dog that thinks I am more valuable to him than whatever else is going on in the environment.
Another important rule is to never let them fail. So this will progress to a long line in our next video and he won’t be given an opportunity to learn that he can not respond and chase something more fun instead!
