      Noah Stone awesome! Unfortunately a lot of dogs are left and end up never getting a home after serving, they are vets just like us and deserve the same treatment their human counterparts get as they save so many.

    Dog owners sometimes compare their relationship with that of parents and children. A Belgian Malinois requires such dedication, responsibility and guidance that it is probably about as close as a dog owner can get to raising a child. I wish I had it in me. They are beautiful dogs!

      @@MarkandTreat Is this a Belgian Malinois Shepherd mix?

    • @MarkandTreat
      @MarkandTreat  5 лет назад +2

      Common sense dog training the lineage from both parents are pure Belgian Malinois, but we suspect there was a German Shepherd dog in the mix somewhere. Now that she is older, we see more similarities in her structure to the GSD.

      I have one Malinois and I wouldn't say they're a docile breed, but they're not "aggressive" either. I do agree with the first comment, saying that this is a bad thing for "ignorant dog lovers" because the video made it look like it is a "easy to take care of" breed and it's definitely not.

    • @maky1588
      @maky1588 7 лет назад +1

      Stephen Smith Mals ARE docile, they are not vicious dogs. You just have to get through about 3-4 ours of wearing them down, so they finally flop for a belly rub! Now speaking seriously I don't think the video shows a docile dog, it shows a dog that's a recipe for trouble if you're not willing to put the time and effort that these owners put into raising her.

  • @Semiotichazey

    Wait, where are the shock collars? The prong collars? Why aren't you forcing him to the ground and showing him you're the alpha?
    I joke! You're a great owner! I wish I was quite as focused on training my dog. She's very well-behaved, but there are a few rough edges that we neglected to sand down.
    Good training requires patience and discipline on the part of the trainer, and you clearly have that in spades!

      In the video, we were using either homemade dehydrated meat treats or Freshpet Vital grain-free chicken, beef, salmon, and egg recipe (needs refrigeration though). We have since moved on to freeze-dried treats (Stella & Chewy meal mixer, Rawbble, Instinct freeze dried raw boost food topper are our current favorites).

      Any working dog needs a knowledgeable owner. Most people want a dog that they can feel protected but do not know the first thing about dogs. That is one of the reasons we have so many shelter dogs in the US. A lot of people get a dog that is too much for them to handle and or care for. But lets also look at the Breeder’s selling dogs just for profit and not the health of the dog or a responsible owner but the moneys. Poor dogs.

    Just found one Belgian Malinois on a highway near the beach while driving. Well, he found me...
    I could see his bones so decided to go and buy a couple of dog food pouches, went back, fed him and even though my wife and I have a 4 months baby, we couldn’t say no.
    We took him to the vet and he was a 6 months dog, dehydrated and hungry pup.
    After 2 weeks he’s a happy, lovely and energetic pup, and I’m training him for basic commands.
    After 3 days he learned how to seat, and to follow me. I love the dog (Blacky) and he loves me 🤣 (wife gets jealous).
    Just have to teach him to be kind with the baby cause when he sees her, he tends to softly bite my babies feet, but nothing to worry about.
    Best decision ever!

    I love when people know what they're getting into when choosing a breed like this and are willing to give them what they need. Not only is it a wast of the dogs potential if you don't work with them the way you do, but it's so miserable for the poor dog to be forced to live such a sedentary life when they know they can do so much more for you. Your dog is gorgeous and it thrills me to see you treat him/her right! ❤️

    I got my malnois Bruce at 8 months old. Although he was house trained he had bad manners like chewing and counter surfing but really these dogs learn so fast and within 2 weeks he was done. I literally walked him between 35 and 40 miles a week. He's 2 now and when I say lets go for a walk, he hides. I literally walked him so much he hates it. He is not hyper at all. On July 1st I got him an 8 week old sister called Bella. We have had her 2 weeks and she is just about house trained AT 10 WEEKS Old!!! She also sits when I put her food in the bowl until I say she can get it. These dogs are easy to train, they are so smart and learn fast. I will never own another breed!!

Dogs are pack drive animals and those are two very good ways of utilizing positive punishment for dogs if utilized the proper way. I've never seen the need for an e-collar or choke chain. All my dogs were trained without the use of harmful equipment, even when they would go through a small time of stubbornness as pups. My dutch shepherd mix is probably the best dog I've ever had and will do all I ask of her and more. Having some problems with my new gsd, but he's getting there too. Just at a slower pace. Just need patience. :)

      My mali girl mellowed out too, at about 2 years old. Really surprised me, she is my first mal, and the first working breed dog I've had that calmed down before at least 7 years of age. I expected with a Malinois there would be no off switch until they get much older. I think it might be partly because she is a female. Still ready to go any time, to do anything outdoors, but she definitely has an off switch and she is only 2 1/2 years old.

      You have your collar in the wrong place. It needs to be up higher on their neck. Right at the jugular. Believe me, if you place the collar up high, they cannot pull and just a few jerks will get their attention. I have trained dogs, without treats with this method with total success. It takes 5 minutes to correct the pulling behavior doing it this way. It's really about training the humans to put the collar in the effective place. Just try it! It works for even the toughest cases. I learned directly from the "dog whisperer himsef", Ceasar Milan. Try it! And your dog won't take you for a walk anymore!
