Hello Shane I suggest rooting in a small cube of grodan, then put it in Clay balls (hydroton) using a 10 gal rubbermade brute trashcan , cut out the 6-inch imprent on lid for a 6-inch basket. USE 3 LARGE AIR STONES PER CONTAINER INCLUDING RESIVOUR Skip the pipes that leak, USE 385 gph pump wrapped in 6 1 gal paint filter bags to keep the roots out of the pump. &1- pump in a 33 gal brute trashcan, both on a timer , for each grow pod. Add an overflow hose to keep water level at 1 inch below basket bottom. Run hose to a 2 gal bucket with a pump & float, going back to resivour. I also suggest adding a bilge pump system as used on a boat. 12 volt backup system . With 7 gallons of water, with Hydroguard & and general hydroponics Armor Si, CaliMagic, then floraMicro, then FloraGrow then flora bloom, mix in that order PH 5.8. PRESOAK GROWDAN IN 5.5 SOLUTION. USE A WATER CHILLER SET FOR 68"F USE added SIDE And Under canopy lights & CO2
I always had better success growing in a lower profile Tote, rather than a brute garbage can. Especially if you aren't using a chiller. The tote is lower profile and has more surface area on the floor.
Dont forget you can mix systems and medias thats where ive had best results. 10" square aqua net pots with 70%coco/15% worm castings/10% perlite/5% diotomatious earth on a flood drain ebb flow table getting fed 4-5 times a day organic Bloom Yellow Bottle. 10x10 are big enough for a buffer. Soil can be reused. I leave old soil to dry for 1 run and then rotate them adding a little casting and diotoma to re load it.
Lol diatomaceous earth is a top dress. It cuts soft bodied invertebrates. It is inert. Why amend soil with it? Perlite is way cheaper and will amend to help with aeration. Stop doing what you're doing. I used to grow with other people. "We need to add x". Why? Research what diatoms are or were I suppose. What is the function of diatomaceous earth in the garden? Why would you not amend it in? Best of luck.
@ericvandenbranden6711 it is used as an insect prevention. One would top dress about ¾". As the soft bodied invertebrate (insect) tries to crawl out of its egg embedded in the substrate, it will be abraded by the sharp facets of the diatoms. It isn't a nutrient amendment... it is sharp, hence the use as an insect prevention technique. It is similar in appearance to perlite, which helps in creating oxygen rich "voids" in the substrate. One might say it makes the soil "lighter". If your soil is more prone to being too wet, amend in perlite and it will dry out more quickly. Neither diatomaceous earth nor perlite have any nutritional value. None. Zero. Zilch. Reminds me of Breaking Bad with the addition of chili powder to the recipe. Let's not do the "chili P" of soil amending. 😉
I'm sorry if I got confused. You said DE on a flood drain. But I assume that means all the amendments are constantly irrigated by the tubes. 🤙🏾 For ratios, it doesn't really matter in soil... but Coco and Rockwool are different
I agree the faster roots grow the better the yield. It's why I use standard or xl root stocks. I use soil because simpler. I plant in 3 gallon totes and trans plant to 6 gallon totes going into flower. Plus I tie plant down to the totes. So need less stem growth. Growing 4 inches of stem is way quicker than feet of stem before canopy.
Hey, I just learnt about root knot neematodes. They have infested my organic soil I re-use. Do a video on those fellas. Only way to deal with them is throw out the soil and hard reset on pot and containers or heat soil too 140 c +. I'm so not stoked. Marigolds apparently release a neematoadacid.
Could growing in just perlite be an option instead of Coco? Just a thought as plenty of oxygen and can absorb some nutes. Or possibly say 5 cms of perlite in the bottom of a soil pot so the tap roots can reach down and breathe easier.
If you're growing outside in the ground it's great to slowly build up a nice rich organic soil over the course of many months or years, but in a container the plant is only there for three or four months and there is no time to build up organic anything. Everything the plant will need has to already be there.
Set an apple out on your porch for 3 months. How long do you propose it takes bacteria to break down nutrients? What is "dirt"? Soil? Who feeds the trees? Expand your mind my friend.

@@dreddykrugernew The optimal way to grow in coco is to not do drybacks and feed at least once per day. I grow without any perlite whatsoever, nor ever had Ca or Mg issues with perlite mixed in.

I've tried several different brands of nutes with my coco. But Advanced Nutrients PH perfect coco range is the best by far. You can add Microbes and enzymes and all the various flavours of shyte for healthy root zone and growth.
As to rock wool, I hear the "it's not very environmentally friendly because it doesn't break down" argument regularly and it literally makes zero sense. It's rock. It wasn't going to break down wherever they picked it up and it's not going to break down where every you drop it. If I dig up rocks to get them out of my back yard garden and haul them to the landfill, they are not going to break down in the landfill ... and yet no one says those rocks aren't "environmentally friendly because they remain in the landfill forever." One can argue that the heating process (energy intensive) for rock wool isn't environmentally friendly, but the 'doesn't break down' argument is just silly.
