    Rice hulls are great I use them and as they break down they make silica available to the soil to be broke down for plant

      Where do you source rice hulls?

      Diatomaceous Earth has better benefits, both for Si and Pest Control. Which is what this episode is about.
      D.E. is one of the highest (inorganic) sources of silica.
      Also, if you use bamboo stakes ~ bamboo has up to 90% organic silica. Grind to mulch when used and old
      Both are substantially higher than rice hulls... which besides the minimal Si input, only help with minor aeration of soil.

      DE is absolutely useless once it gets Wet it does nothing it will not work well for Fungus Nats unless you are bottom watering

    Powder mildew I have only had outdoors 2 times in decade plus I make LAB and apply it and don’t have the issue I also Burned the plant matter that had been infected rather than compost it on the off chance that the compost would not get hot enough long enough to kill the powder mildew spore

    Shane Can the Professor to do a pictorial and talk about spotting light Fatigue as apposed to calcium deficiency. As I see a lot of on line growers making this mistake. As the two have similar visual symptoms.

    • @Freedom_Born
      @Freedom_Born 9 часов назад +1

      But one is light ~ which is easier to regulate.
      Feeding burns are way too indeterminate to suggest anything without knowing other inputs in the growers medium.
      A lockout (unknown to Matt) could be (an) issue ~ so a Ca def could be associated to something else

    • @UbiquitousRomp
      @UbiquitousRomp 7 часов назад +2

      @@Freedom_Born I've seen 3 on line grow channels chasing cal mag deficiencies. When they had light fatigue. Which was easily cured once I pointed it out to them.
      To much light causes a similar fading of the leaves and then yellowing and even brown spots. So lots of -people get it wrong, then over feed to compensate.

      Ikwym. But a (feeding) def could be a many number of things. If Su locks out P, which in turn locks out Cal. Then addressing a "calcium" issue won't really mean anything

      @@UbiquitousRomp
      Light is just a matter of raise, dim, LST or HST
      A feeding def isn't that straight forward

    • @UbiquitousRomp
      @UbiquitousRomp 7 часов назад +1

      @@Freedom_Born I not talking about that. I'm specifically talking about how to differentiate between calcium deficiency and light fatigue.
      When I pointed it out to the growers who were chasing a deficiency and over feeding. They were able to fix the problem, Just by lowering the PPFD.. I also got a few replies to the posting, from people thanking me for pointing out their own problem. Many just hadn't realised how much more powerful their new lights were.
      It happens more in veg than in flower. In flower you get the distinctive burnt tips (and I'm not confusing that with nute burn tips.). But Light fatigue in veg and a higher RH doesn't always burn the tips. It just starts by yellowing the leaves.

    Whenever I empty a Tent I Do a complete Wash down I use Extremely Hot soapy water with 10% by volume bleach in it I then do a Hot water / bleach rinse . Isopropyl alcohol does not kill viruses or spores . I use a Cafen sprayer to get bleach water into all the corners and Hiden areas of the tent I tear down my fans Including inline A/C infinity fans and wash them all I also wipe down my lights .. I grow in living soil so I’m fussy about my pots I use 20 gallon pots and they get washed and sterilized when not in use . I lost a entire grow plus indoor vegetable garden and 89 house plants 3 years ago from A person who was watering for me while I was away they brought a plant in they had bought on sale thinking that it would Help the plant to be in controlled environment with good light and I ended up with a Extream Thrift infestation

      Bleach works better with cold water because hot water breaks down the active ingredient in bleach, making it significantly less effective; always dilute bleach in cold water to maximize its cleaning power Bleach containing 5.25% sodium hypochlorite should be diluted as a 1:99 ratio with cold water for general cleaning, or 1: 49 for disinfecting contaminated surfaces

      Actually you might want to Google that and check the Department Of Health answer Bleach with Hot water works best for sanitation and cleaning because the Hot water starts the release of the ingredients of the bleach It does break it down Faster but if you use it while it’s Still Hot it works A Lot better than Cold water and bleach
